Is "Spot Coffee" really the "Spot?" To be sure, there are better cafe's (more intimate, less corporate, better coffee) in Buffalo: (Sweetness 7, Dolci, Askher's just to name a few). Yet, Spot Coffee has been branded as the "local" Buffalo spot. I was at a concert yesterday and the performer built rapport with the audience by saying that he went to Spot Coffee for breakfast, Mighty Taco for lunch and getting Duff's and Anchorbar for dinner! Horray -- you're now livin' the true local life. All there's left to do is bathe in the Erie Canal and go to Delta Sonic to fill up your tank. Let's get real - this place has good, locally roasted coffee (they roast it at the Delaware location). Their sandwiches leave a lot to be desired, but they are large and pretty decent. This location has great wifi -- I can work here for hours and even be a jerk and download files quickly (I assure you, they are no larger then a few megabytes!) So if this were an office - it would get five stars (seriously, maybe they should get a fax machine). It is a convenient meeting place, although the place is super busy around lunch time -- they have couches, fake fireplaces and everything else that make it a better alternative to Starbucks. You see, in truth - I like Spot Coffee. Sure, they are a little more "corporate" after their take over, whatever that means (more locations maybe? Did you know there's a Spot Coffee in Florida?). I can come here when I'm happy, lonely, frustrated or just and people watch while sipping my coffee and feel a little lighter. If you're looking for a more 'local' cafe, try Dolci or some of the other aforementioned places above. If you're looking for a reliable Spot to work or hang out, this place welcomes you as well. read more

We are in town from California and decided that we needed to try spot coffee! We were not disappointed at all, we got bagels and cream cheese for the kids that were awesome, an iced Japanese style coffee, and a mike sandwich everything was awesome and they also have games available for the kids to play with, definitely an amazing spot in Buffalo! read more

I'm starting to get less and less impressed with Spot Coffee every time I come here. I work one day a week out of this location for half the day. It's weird, I know, but there's something about being out of the office for a day that get's me super productive. It's quite loud here. That's not a complaint, just an observation. Hit or miss with the WiFi. There have been times I've had to walk to Panera across the street just to get better WiFi. It's slow some times and fast other. The food is going downhill. The salads are so expensive. Especially to get one for lunch. And there isn't anything too special about the coffees. I'm a huge coffee drinker, but the past couple of times I've been here, I've just gotten apple cider. Which is good, but I guarantee bought at a grocery store. read more

Ordered a quesadilla on white with salad to go, the woman taking the order 3 times repeated it back to me wrong and I corrected her and watched her do something on the register. I waited for my order for over 30 mins and watched all the other people come and go and take their in house orders. Mine was the only quesadilla and it took almost 40 mins to make while people that came in after me got their food first. I would have been fine as long as it was correct and hot but it was neither of these. There were chips instead of greens and wheat instead of white. I asked them to fix the chips to greens and that is when they told me someone else must have taken my white tortilla quesadilla with greens. However in the 40 mins I'd been there there were no other to go orders and no other quesadillas. They switched the chips for greens, but did not correct the tortilla. When I got home I also noticed that the tortilla was only half filled and the edges were just empty. This was a disappointing waste of money, and this wasn't the first time for this location. I really dislike this Spot. It's probably my least favorite. The traffic getting there is a pain, and it's always too busy to find a table, even during the middle of the day. A lot of times when you do manage to find a table, you get stuck sitting near and hearing middle aged stay-at-home moms complain about their lives. I went here on a Monday evening. I ordered a coffee, I didn't have any cash so I had to use my credit card. The cashier asked me if I wanted to add a tip. I thought that was rude, especially since the other person I was with, who ordered a salad and used her credit card wasn't asked to add a tip. My friend and I waited for her salad for over 20 minutes only to find it sitting in the pick up window. Why did they bother to ask for her name and on top of it we were 2 out of the 4 people in the entire place. They could have noticed we were sitting there waiting for it and it was on the counter for a long time. Lastly, the girl behind the counter continually for the entire hour I was there kept putting her hair in a ponytail and then taking it out and putting it back in a hair tie over and over. With her hands right where ALL the food was!! Overall, I would not recommend this place or go back. read more

I don't love Spot, nor do I really hate it - so Yelp's "A-OK" rating is just perfect. I think the coffee is better at a lot of place, first off. It's not as complex and rich as coffee elsewhere in town. Similarly, the baked goods and other food offerings always seem like something is missing - perhaps just freshness at times, or they should just be cheaper, maybe. Perhaps it's that I've grown tired of the paint-on-anything and mismatched vibe of shops like this, but it has begun to feel dated and tiring inside most Spots and I don't often like to hang out inside them. Perhaps the odd "cooler than thou" attitude from the employees has become equally tiring. The one thing that we've found useful is the availability of a post-dinner dessert - hard to come by at times (oddly enough). We've occasionally stopped in to get a sweet treat to split at home, and this is a nice convenience. read more

What a disappointment. The service, I hate to write, was awful - we waited for one (seemed to be) trainee pour our 2 cups and forgot my muffin was getting heated. So we stood at the counters end for 15 min laughing to ourselves. The coffee quality was no better than Denny's restaurant or McDonald's. and I lived in Costa Rica and sipped the worlds finest roasted beans. I know a good cup of java. The baked goods? I've been coming here for the past week to study for my boards examination and I love it! It's a great place to get lost in studying and when I'm bored, just look at people and try to figure out what they're doing. I think there was a couple across the room that met online. Spot is a great place to meet up with friends for a coffee or to do some work on your laptop. Personally, I am a diehard SBUX fan, but still manage to visit this Spot at least a few times a month. The service at this location is fantastic. Everyone is friendly, welcoming and helpful with offering advice on orders. I'm a soy chai latte kind of gal, and I'm quickly becoming accustomed to Spot's version of this drink. It tastes quite different than SBUX but I could definitely learn to like it. I recently bought a birthday gift here. I'm not an espresso drinker but was buying for someone who is. I asked the cashier to help me choose what to get -she was very helpful in pointing me in the right direction. Then she wrapped the gifts in a beautifully presentable manner -no need for gift wrapping it later, she did a great job! They ran out of gift card sleeves, so she put it in a small espresso to-go cup filled with coffee beans -how innovative! Kudos! The food, however...well, that's a different story. I'm really not a fan of any of the food here. The pastries and baked goods taste stale and store-bought, while the lunch-type meals just look unappealing to me. (I swear I had food poisoning after eating the cheesecake! I stay away from the food here in general.) As far as coffee and tea selection goes, however, five stars! They have all your typical beverage choices, as well as seasonal specialties. As far as the atmosphere, well -bring a sweater! (maybe some mittens and a hat, too). It's FREEZING. I find that I sit there clutching my latte in both hands with my face in the cup to try to keep the shivering to a minimum. Sitting outside is a luxury, though. It's neat to be able to watch traffic on Main Street while sitting under an umbrella on the sidewalk next to a beautiful pot of flowers. Very relaxing. read more

I've only had the opportunity to visit Spot Coffee on Main St on one occasion. On this Sunday, around 4 pm, the location was a frenzy of organized conversation and consumption. I parked in their main lot, just off Main St., which shares spaces with a hair salon. This lot has a few spaces, and if they fill up, even more can be found on the far end of the plaza. The main entrance has you walking through the establishment, towards the ordering counter. This counter is centrally located and can be viewed from any seat in the establishment. They offer a variety of smoothies, hot teas, coffee, and food. With each order you can ask for the WIFI password of the day, and on my ticket it said this password was good for 6 hours. Seating is comprised of couches, chairs, and tables. Some areas are more conducive to productive work than others, which are better suited for conversation. I was lucky enough to grab a large table for myself and my friend on the riser section. This table was large enough for two laptops and was located close by a power outlet. The chairs were hard wood and felt comfortable for 2 hours worth of work. The interior noise level was above average. Smart phones owners watching videos without headphones, excited patrons enjoying the company of others, and young adults conversing close by about their lives. While this environment was eventful, it may not be well suited for serious work. The staff was friendly, and answered my questions quickly and with knowledge of their product and services. The clean-up is mostly self-serve, with bins and garbage cans left out for customers. This works, yet some tables remained filthy by disgusting patrons who were obviously raised without respect for others. While I did see the staff taking full bins of plates and cups away, I did not see them wiping down tables or sweeping. I found this location a great escape from more familiar places that keep me less motivated through familiarity. I was able to enjoy some tea, get some work accomplished, and have a brief conversation or two. read more

Whenever I'm not running late for work in the morning (only once or twice a month, alas), I drop by Spot for a latte and breakfast. Starbucks is quicker, but the latte quality here is far superior and occasionally comes with some fun (basic) latte art. As a former barista I appreciate the hand-pulled shots and I could wax poetic about the beautiful tiger-flecked crema. I'll also occasionally grab an iced or regular black coffee, and the quality is consistent. The Mike's breakfast sandwich is an odd combination that somehow works really well, although I usually just get a plain bagel with cream cheese, tomato, and bacon. It's not a combo listed on the menu and is rather pricey with the add-ons but for a decent breakfast sandwich I pay it gladly. I've been for lunch and was not really wowed. Their sandwiches are good (the chicken foccacia in particular) but nothing spectacular, especially for the price. I heard raves about the grilled cheese, but when I tried it the cheese was panini-press melted, not grill melted, which kind of kills it for me. Four stars for food and beverages. Usually a busy place but the staff gets your order out quick and delicious. Seating is a whole other story... get takeout at all costs or be prepared to wait and wait for a seat. Although encouraged by SPOT for customers to stay and hang out, fellow customers will be at their tables/ seats for long periods and no seating at times. Also when they are busy tables may not be bussed or wiped down. There have been several time I just went to my car and had my awesome banana bread and awesome coffee there. She took our order with my 12,000 special requests with absolute accuracy and a smile on her face. This place always makes me feel at home, even though respectively they are always busy from the time they open to when I'm here at night when they are about to close ( yea, I'm one of those people) but the coffee is great and actually the atmosphere is not that bad all and all this is a great place to hang out and just kick it and as always free wifi is a plus!! read more

I love this location. Parking can sometimes be a bit of a challenge, because the lot is shared with several other businesses ... but it's not something to get all hot and bothered about. I've ordered quite a few dishes from this location and everything has been wonderful. I think my favorite sandwich is their grilled cheese. It comes with tomatoes and a mustard spread. You can choose from white or wheat and the bread is nicely toasted and there is a ton of cheese in it! Just the way a good grilled cheese should be. For the sandwiches, they give you the choice between chips or a salad. They're chips are nice and crunchy and salted just right. My drinks vary pending on what I order. I love their unsweetened iced tea and pair it with a sandwich, pizza or salad. If I'm getting a slice of cake/pie, I'll get an iced caramel macchiato. If I get a yogurt parfait (their granola mix is fantastic) or a fruit cup, I'll order a hot green tea. If I order a brownie, I either get a hot caramel macchiato or a glass of milk. I know ... milk at a coffee shop? But their brownies are so rich and delicious that sometimes I just need that milk. I lpve the stafg there. They're all incredibly friendly and the kitchen turn around is quite fast. They have free WiFi, with their password up at the register and they change it ... not sure how often. So when this place first opened it was a huge draw for us. Starbucks was getting too crowded and stale. I was in love at first. My friends and I were there several times a week, and started calling it "headquarters"! Like "hey mark, I'll meet you at headquarters!" The service was quick and the employees enthusiastic. Their food menu also won me over, as the best I could ever hope for from other coffee joints was a stale pastry. I love the omelet and bagel or muffin special-- all for $5.25!! For me, that's a great deal, to eat out for less than $10 and feel full. Their bagels are great. I've also had pizza here and it's pretty good. Another thing I love is that they have power protein shakes, where if you're drinking it in addition to eating seems steep at $5.95 but if you're hitting this place in between things or after the gym, it's the perfect "meal". Coffee is good here, as is the tea. It is always crowded here, but there is usually someplace to sit until the freeloaders get off the comfy couches and you're willing to wait it out. I love the fireplace down in the large seating area. It seems kind of oddly placed, but it's actually cozy if you sit near it. My two biggest complaints are more personal, and not really Spot itself's fault---all of my favorite, friendly, enthusiastic employee friends no longer work there. I've always been a Spot Coffee fan - and I'm not a coffee drinker. Part of my preference for Spot over Starbucks (which is directly across the street from one another downtown) is the atmosphere, the other part was the chicken focaccia. When I was fresh out of college, I lived downtown for a year, and had the pleasure of walking to Spot Coffee on Delaware Ave. My drink of choice was their white hot chocolate. But what I loved most was the chicken focaccia sandwich..... generous portion of chicken and pesto on grilled focaccia bread, completed by a side salad of fresh greens. I've had many heart to hearts over chicken focaccia. While I was sad to see their Ellicottville location close, I was thrilled to see that Spot has moved into the 'burbs on Main Street - just down the street from the yoga studio I visit while in town. While both downtown locations have an urban feel, complete with eclectic decor, funky vibes, artsy magazines, posters, and many times the customer base to match, this new location in suburbia has a more upscale, leather chair and fireplace, free wi-fi, "lets discuss a deal" kind of vibe.... again, with patrons to match. Two thumbs up for the new location which has a shared parking lot. The Williamsville location is much more spacious, allowing UB students ample space to meet up and work on group projects. There are plenty of tables for two mixed in with cozy lounge chairs and sofas. The food selection is quite extensive for a "coffee shop" - soups, salads, panini's, and plenty of hot and cold specialty beverages. Spot also boasts a daily fresh selection of home made pastries and desserts. I miss the random dinosaur toy given at the check out to identify the customer with their order, but I suppose that is part of the downtown theme. But... Spot came through with their no-less-than-fabulous chicken focaccia sandwich, which was well earned after a demanding yoga class, shared with my sister while having yet another heart to heart. read more

To preface, I work close to Spot so my coworkers and I frequently order lunch from there and have done so for the past 3 years. Service and food have always been good until today. I'm not sure if the workers were new or if they just didn't care but I called to place an order for takeout, as I normally do, and the phone just rang and rang for at least 5 minutes. Called again and the same thing happened. I was thinking they were probably busy as it was 1pm so I decided to walk over and place my order. I walk in, there's no line, and three employees are crowded around someone's phone at the cash register. I don't know if they ignored my calls or couldn't hear them but I dismissed it and ordered my food. After I ordered, I was waiting and noticed that one of the employees had sat themselves on the back counter where they frequently place takeout food waiting to be picked up...kinda gross and unprofessional. My food was good and didn't take longer than 10 minutes to make but I was extremely disappointed by the service. I hope they step it back up and this isn't the beginning of consistent poor service. read more
