My dining experience at Spotted Horse Tavern was, without question, the worst restaurant experience I've ever had in Westport. The waiter never introduced himself, showed virtually no interest in serving our table, and came across as though our presence was an inconvenience. Throughout the meal, he spent more time chatting with someone he appeared to know than checking on his guests. We frequently had to wait for basic service, and it felt like we were being ignored. Our server's lack of professionalism, attentiveness, and courtesy completely overshadowed the experience. I sincerely hope this was an isolated incident, because no customer should be treated this way. read more

Stopped at the Spotted Horse Tavern for lunch while out and about in Westport. The restaurant is very nice. The indoor dinning area is very cute, would be a nice place for a date night. On the other side of the dinning room is a full bar that has a nice vibe to it as well. There is a big patio (this is where we sat) and tables on the closed off street. Great outdoor space. As for the food, it was alright. I had the Ahi Tuna Bowl. Flavor wise it was pretty good. The tuna was good and fresh and the avocado was perfectly ripe. It came with so much (almost too much) shaved carrot and radish on the top. I felt like I had to eat through all of that to even get to the tuna, rice, and avocado. The sushi rice that is on the bottom of the bowl was very soggy and almost mushy. Servers were nice. Had to ask for the check after a long wait once our food plates were cleared from the table, maybe 20 minutes. read more

First time at Spotted Horse Tavern, and unfortunately, it will probably be my last. The service was disappointing from the moment we arrived. The young woman with long, straight hair who showed us to our table was very dismissive. She did not make eye contact or say welcome. Her demeanor came across as careless--she simply pointed toward the table and walked away. The restaurant was mostly empty indoors, with some customers seated outside. I immediately noticed that the floor was filthy, including a piece of chewed meat directly underneath the table. Had the person seating us paid a little more attention, this should have been noticed and cleaned. We decided to change seats and sit outside instead. Our waiter, Omar, was also not attentive or welcoming. His demeanor was very dry, and the service was minimal. At one point, I had to go inside to find him because we were ready to pay, and he was socializing with the employees at the bar. This was particularly frustrating because there were very few customers at the time, and he appeared to have only about three tables to take care of, including ours. The busboy and cleaning crew were actually the only employees who approached us with a smile, and I have to say, they seemed to be the ones working the hardest. Unfortunately, the experience got worse after we left. My friend and I both experienced significant stomach pain after eating there. We did not have diarrhea, so I cannot say what caused it, but we both wondered whether the grease from the French fries may have contributed. Overall, the combination of poor service, lack of cleanliness, and how we felt afterward made this a disappointing experience. Unfortunately, we have no reason to come back. read more

This restaurant is located on a cute side street in downtown Westport, with raised patio and street seating options. The service was good, we were promptly served although we did wait over 15 minutes (and had to go out of our way to ask) after finishing eating to finally get the check/having anyone check up on us after our plates were taken. I got the Crispy Chicken Dragon Bowl which was good and overall a good portioned meal although the proportion of rice to chicken was a little bit of a letdown. My wife said it best about this spot - "I've never seen a place so uninterested in having customers." We came at opening for brunch. Our orders were the first ones in. Still took half an hour for food to come out. The menu is lunch-heavy and the breakfast items aren't great. $20 for eggs Benedict on burnt English muffins and with the smallest eggs I've ever seen. Service wasn't great. They had like 4 or 5 people just standing at the back of the restaurant just laughing and talking. Very weird. I went to the restaurant with my daughter and nephews family. It was a beautiful Friday night and we sat outside. The food was decent but the service was awful. There was one point where the wind blew my daughter's menu and knocked over her whole glass of wine. I came here after a long hike with one of my girlfriends who came up from New York City. We called and asked if they allowed dogs and they told us yes we can sit outside. When arriving a young hostess told us that we'd have to wait for the right side of the outside to have availability ( left side was completely empty) and there was a birthday celebration happening that we'd have to wait to end. They gave us an estimation of 30 minutes. The party was not done. An hour passed , they finally finished their food and was gone. I get it, but the restaurant was more than empty inside. In my view, it would have been nice to offer a regular size table. Apart from that, the food was really good! The waiter lost our credit card and casually, not even apologizing, asked if we could cancel the card. He then went on to take orders from other tables and did not care to alert others to look for it until we notified the manager. The manager, on the other hand, did not apologize at all. When asked why they were downplaying this serious situation, the manager said "what else can we do, involve the police if you want." They ultimately, after 40 minutes, ended up finding the card. I'm new to Connecticut and have been here a couple of times now. Ambiance in the day and evening are great. There was a talented duo playing music on weekend night. I'd suggest sitting outside. While inside is rocking with some pretty good tunes (depending on taste) outside, especially at night, is great! The food is high quality, served hot, with great presentation. The mussels in either fra diábolo or white wine is my favorite! So good! We also had tuna tartare (excellent) and great pretzels. Drinks are tasty and service is very good. We had three delicious appetizers two drinks each that were just yummy and right on point and for dessert dessert we had the Affogato, which I forgot to take a picture of but I highly recommend also missing from the review are the the roasted brussels sprouts which I took a terrible photo of. Today however I found the wait staff to be particularly inattentive and unavailable - lacking basic customer skills that would have me driven to return . Unfortunately, the food ( the Tuna Bowl) also missed a flavor profile and was disappointing . I generally find this restaurant to be consistent and worthwhile for day trip . It was a hot day in Westport today. We decided we wanted somewhere cool to sit and have a cool drink and some easy lunch. We stopped by the Spotted Horse, I've passed by this place before, and I've always noticed how busy it was. Today it was still busy, but there was a table for us outside under the umbrella. The water refills on a hot day, as we looked at the menu were frequent and much appreciated. I got the Kale and Avocado salad and their iced coffee. We got their jumbo pretzel sticks to share. These are warm and came with grafton cheddar beer dip & whole mustard for dipping. My two friends got the Crispy Calamari and the Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna Tacos. My coffee was just right, it came with cream and sugar on the side. The Kale and Avocado salad was perfect! This is exactly the type of food I like for a hot day! This was filled with fresh kale, dried cranberries, pine nuts, cannellini beans, cherry tomatoes and topped with slices of avocado and queso fresco cheese, and cilantro-lime vinaigrette dressing. I didn't add any protein to this salad. This was fresh, colorful and textured, very light and filling. The calamari was crispy and well made, not at all greasy. I tried a few pieces. It came with marinara, lime aioli & sweet thai chili sauces. The Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna Tacos were another flavorful and colorful pick! I loved the pineapple-cilantro salsa that came with this. I love this place, great atmosphere, ambiance and the food is very good too. During this Covid era they have started to have seating outside right on the road which makes the experience even better as you gaze on to the neighboring stores. Food is always up to the mark. I have tried their burgers Burger which was very flavorful and decent quantity. The Mussels have been consistently good, and comes with a buttered up bread that is to die for.
