We go to Little Barn in Shelton a few times a month, so thought we would give this one a try. Walked in for lunch on a Monday afternoon. The dining room was busy, so we asked to sit in the bar instead. I think that was a mistake. The bartender is the server in there and never came over to take our order. I asked another server if we could order some drinks. She took the order and it was at least 10 minutes before the bartender brought them to the table. The menu was little different from the other location. I ordered a cheesesteak and it was delicious. All of the food was great. read more

A great lunch! I sat in the bar and started with a few grilled chicken tacos as an appetiser prepared with pico de gallo, micro cilantro, chipotle mayo. An excellent choice. I loved them! After those excellent tacos I enjoyed the AHI TUNA DYNAMITE BOWL, so happy I picked this winner. A must have item! I loved it. Very good. The sushi grade tuna is served warm over sticky rice with sesame, pickled ginger, cucumbers, julienne vegetables, diced avocado, crispy wontons and sriracha aioli. Three of us stopped in for lunch today, and we had a very favorable experience. Our server was super friendly and helpful, and answered a few questions we had about the preparation of a sandwich. She even ran back to the kitchen to check with the chef and made sure we had the information we were looking for. Their menu is very broad and covers appetizers, tacos, sandwiches, salads, burgers, and bowls. Our lunch was a Southwest Salad ($18.95) with Mojito-lime marinated grilled chicken, crispy romaine, Roasted corn, black beans, pico de gallo, queso fresco, avocado & crispy tortillas with ancho chipotle dressing, Chatham Fish N' Chips ($20.95) with Crispy ale battered cod with fries, tartar sauce, house slaw and lemon wedges, and a Grilled Chicken Caprese Sandwich ($17.95) with Lemon-Pepper grilled chicken breast, roasted red peppers, baby arugula, fresh mozzarella, and pesto aioli served on a toasted Rosemary focaccia. The food was excellent. I had the salad, and the first thing I noticed was there was a LOT of grilled diced chicken on my plate. It was a big portion, certainly enough for two sittings, and I have to say that ancho chipotle dressing was sneaky spicy! I really liked this place. Similar for the ribs which were dry tasteless at least the burger was fresh and hot as well as the Mac and cheese all the fries were just warmish . For mains, we ordered the Cali Crispy Chicken Wrap with crispy chicken cutlet, lettuce, avocado, tomato, pepper jack cheese, bacon, and basil aioli, which was filling and hit all the right notes. We also had the Salmon BLT with grilled Atlantic salmon, bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and lemon basil aioli in a spinach wrap, fresh and nicely balanced. Our server was waiting tables and serving a full bar so everything felt delayed. Perhaps they were short staffed the day we came. Stopped at the Little Barn for lunch after spending the morning at the Westport Dog Festival. The restaurant has seating options inside and outside, and a bonus it's dog friendly on the patio! The patio offered ample seating and provided enough shade to dine outside comfortably on a hot, sunny day. The servers were friendly and attentive, bringing out water for both me and my dog shortly after being seated. The menu offers a variety of options, all reasonably priced. Outstanding! We stopped by for a simple lunch, accompanied by our small dog. The staff was welcoming to all of us and our dog was relaxed and quiet the entire time. We sat on the enclosed patio, which was comfortably warm on a chilly spring day. I had the crispy chicken sandwich from the specials menu, and my husband had the lobster salad on Texas toast. Our food was great, with special recognition to the sweet potato fries, which were cooked perfectly and not the soggy mess that a lot of restaurants serve. The waitress was attentive and friendly. I had the WORST experience here today. I am a regular at this location, I live right down the street so to say the least, I order food from this Little Barn quite often. Today, I had the most rude, prejudice white, blonde early/mid-30s bartender serving me. To preface, I am black living in Westport, CT so this is already a recipe for disaster. When my friend and I sat at the bar, the blonde bartender gave us the coldest greeting & would only check on how we were doing or if we needed another drink only if we reached out to her first. Now, I have worked in the service industry myself, so I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. Only up until I saw how she interacted with the other [white] customers. She was joyful, cracking jokes, checking in on them every five minutes. It honestly was appalling to witness. Little Barn is so named because it's in a building shaped like a little barn. There's some things on the menu that are amazing, and some I would avoid. On the good side, the Fish and Chips and the Fish Tacos were some of the best I've ever had. The Nachos were also excellent with very crispy, thick chips and a decent amount of toppings on everything. Sadly the waitress steered me very wrong. I was considering ordering the fish like my dining mates but she steered me towards the Chicken Sandwich and the Ahi Tuna Buddha Bowl which she raves about. The Ahi Tuna bowl was basically a bit of tuna, carrots and rice with an aggressive and almost offensive amount of mayonnaise. If you do go, stick to the fish and chips or fish tacos and don't listen to the waitress. read more

I was passing through Westport and decided to stop for lunch at Little Barn. Little Barn has a rustic feel to it with indoor and outdoor seating. There is a cozy fireplace in the dining area with some booths and tables. They call their menu "casual" and I agree. There are enough choices for a variety of palettes. My friend and I shared an order of chicken wings and both ordered a mushroom burger. The Buffalo chicken wings were tasty and done well. They had a good flavor and were not drenched in any sauce. They were accompanied with a nice portion of blue cheese. A little pricey for the amount and size of the wings but good otherwise. The mushroom burger was very good. It was served with portobello mushrooms caramelized onions and Swiss cheese. It was a tasty selection items for the burgers. We ordered onion rings with the burger. They looked great, however they lacked flavor. A bit disappointing. I would stop back and try something else on the menu. I was between three and four stars. Excellent, beyond excellent restaurant down in Westport. I met up with my friend down here after getting my hair done and it was such a great decision because we did outdoor dining and it was a lovely night out. While I waited for her I completely finished off a mudslide martini (def recommend) and some ahi tuna nachos that I'd legit drive down for daily, they were that amazing. I then had a delightful Brussels sprouts salad for my main entree and an orange margarita as my dessert to cap off a perfectly wonderful, relaxing day. We called an hour ahead and asked if we could place reservations. They said no, it's first come first serve. When we got there we had a 25 minute wait time and they placed our name and number into their system. Why don't they have reservations if they have this system? We waited in our car for 30 minutes and saw people leaving. We called into the restaurant to see where we stood on the waitlist and the girl sounded confused. She ultimately said "Just come on in." When we ordered food it was 7:30 pm. We saw the tables around us arrive after us and get their food before us. At 8:30 pm I approached our server, Rosa, and asked what was going on. She didn't have an explanation and went to "check" the status of the food. We waited another 15 minutes until she brought it to us. The plates were hot and the food was cold. I ordered a grilled cheese. When a grilled cheese is cold it's like munching on a cardboard box sandwich. We tipped her 18%, but she seemed new at her job and must've made a mistake. The place was packed and the food was ok. I don't want to 1-star the joint as people make mistakes, but the overall experience sucked. I'm sure if we went back it would be better. It's just tough when it takes an hour or more for food and my young children are acting out like starved fools. Kinda wish they just took same-day reservations. read more

Upon reviewing the menu, I was a little disappointed they didn't have more brunch-related items. No eggs or sweet breakfast items here, so if you're looking for that, this is not your place. I opted for a lunch-y item and went with the lobster club with sweet potato fries. The club was delicious! Plenty of lobster, but the lobster is definitely mashed up, and not the thick, chunky pieces you'd expect. I think they should be advertising it as a "lobster salad". Delicious and welcoming! We stopped at Little Barn after a beach walk. Weren't looking for anything too fancy, just high quality, casual and yummy. Needed to pick up a quick gift on the Post Road and LB was close by. We chose to sit outside where is a bit less crowded. Our server, Chelsey was lovely. Her experience showed as she balanced engagement/serving several outdoor tables with ease. We weren't completely convinced on the beer offering (Founders IPA vs. Founders All Day IPA) but Chelsey offered a sample pour (non-stingy) and wasn't in any rush to swipe them away once we had made a choice. The Blood Orange Margarita was well balanced and offered a sugar or salt rim (I chose salt). We had the watermelon/feta salad to start (special), soft shell crab sandwich (special) and the Bacon Egg and Cheese Burger. All delicious and well prepared. The best part was the total!
