    Corned beef panini

I've always been hesitant to try a new place(new to me). I've lived in Norwalk for several years and always missed getting a good pastrami or corned beef sandwich in NY. We decided to try O'Neill's tonight for a PTA charity. I'm glad we went, because I was starving and wanted a corned beef sandwich. I must admit I was a little hesitant when I saw the sandwich and that it look like two big, thick pieces of meat. When I bit into the sandwich, I was transported someplace else. The sauce, sauerkraut all melded together, nicely. I'm trying to save some for lunch, but it's becoming difficult..LOl. Let's say it tastes the way corned beef should taste! My guys had a ceasar salad and fish and chips which were quickly gobbled down. The ambiance was sports bar-ish. The Met game was on. We did take out. Service was great and the server was able to take Apple pay on his device right there. We received our food quickly, as it was pretty packed in there.

Didn't spend that much time at O'Neill's as it was a quick pop in to say hi to someone who was celebrating their birthday. It's your atypical Irish pub, with the atypical crowd you'd expect at an Irish pub. The game was on so it was quite packed. Based on the crowd, I'd definitely say they are doing something right.

So many under age kids. This place profits on underage kids. It is such a scam. I am over age and got denied.

Selling food and drink to take home in the front (along with a few seats for pints) and mostly drink in the back, I love a good grocer-pub and Moran's is one of those such places. Don't disappear, please don't! The pub pulls a fantastic pint of Guinness, likely because the keg is directly under the bar and the beer travels very little distance into your glass. It's really amazing how wonderful and different the Guinness is when it's fresh and poured correctly. The bartender when we visited was very generous with information about the area and entertained us with stories and chit-chat about local events and the economy. These are the moments you remember from a trip somewhere: a quality drink, a quiet bar wrought with history, a friendly local shooting the breeze. Simple connections and simple pleasures in life that sometimes get lost in the shuffle of busy days. The pub has done quite a bit to make itself marketable to football fans, with a large collection of team scarves and paraphernalia draped over the walls. Unfortunately I was not able to stay long enough to catch the vibe in there during a match. In short, a lovely stop, and probably the most worthwhile of them, during our stay in Westport.

I've never actually been there before, but the menu looked like it had a diverse number of options for anyone's tastes, was not wildly overpriced, and to be honest, as a walker as opposed to a frequent driver, I've always been fascinated by the "tables for ladies" ad on the window. Hey, I'm a lady - and so is she - so there will certainly be a table for us! We chose to eat outside, which was perhaps not the best decision, as it is just loud there in the middle of the day, which is no fault of the restaurant's, but my friend did ask the waiter if they could possibly lower the music being piped into the outdoor seating area more than once, as it was already loud enough from the street traffic, and that request was not accommodated. Meh, I can let it slide, even though he could have just said, "no, we can't do that" instead of saying, "yes, of course" each time. Honesty is always the best policy, right? I ordered the veggie wrap with fries - which is a rare splurge for me - and it was perfectly cooked with a well-balanced flavors, properly grilled, marinated just enough, not overstuffed and everything stayed together through the whole meal - which is an A+ right there. It was large and I reheated the other half the next day, and same thing - it was just as good as it was when it was fresh from the kitchen. I've kind of been craving it since I had it. I am usually not a mayo fan at all, notoriously so, but their pesto mayo knocked it out of the park -- and I absolutely love that they serve it on the side, as I find , by default, many restaurants over-sauce anything - and even order burgers with ketchup on the side, as I prefer to taste the sandwich not the sauce, which is meant to complement, not overpower. The fries were shoestring, and yet perfectly cooked and not overly, nor under salted - and not a burnt one was in sight. Just based on this dish, it is clear they take care and pay attention to detail in their kitchen and I definitely would go back. My dining partner also had a wrap she loved, and had cole slaw with hers. We shared the fries and cole slaw. I loved the addition of cilantro to the slaw, but that was the one dish I found to be somewhat lacking -- it was a bit dry. I took the leftovers home, added a little extra mayo, a dab of ground mustard, and the tiniest bit of white vinegar (proportionate to the amount left) and served it as a side with a burrito I made my husband for dinner. He loved it. As those ingredients are the basic core of my cole slaw recipe, I think they gave me a new recipe to work with when I am making a slaw to go with Mexican food, as it worked SO well. (I also tied it together with a squeeze of lime - because what goes better with cilantro than lime?) Nonetheless, it was inspired of their chef(s) to add cilantro to cole slaw -- and I wish I had thought of it. Thank you for that inspiration to wow my Mexican relatives! I will be back and can't wait to see what other treasures are on their menu. I most unfortunately have an allergy to all fish and shellfish, so there are things I cannot try -- which is a running issue for me anywhere I go -- but I know there are many great meals there ahead of me.
