Terrible experience at this vet that unfortunately aligns with others negative experiences. Our dog got injured at their boarding facility and I received three different stories about what happened. They kept her an additional night so they could examine her in the morning. They called to tell me they recommended an X-ray. I specifically asked how much and they quoted me $542. I was hesitant to proceed as they couldn't even articulate what they were looking for. It was basically an exploratory X-ray. I agreed and when I went to pick up the dog they hit me with an $1100 bill. After discussing with them, they admitted that they incorrectly quoted me a price and they thought they had consent to provide my dog with injections as treatment. Despite this being their mistake they refused to do anything to make it right. Further, they prescribed her antibiotic for no apparent reason. When I asked several times I was told it was because maybe she had an infection yet they ran comprehensively blood work to the tune of $200 dollars which showed no infection. This vet cannot be trusted and has proven to take advantage of customers. They are also refusing to provide me with the vet records despite my asking several times. It is so hard to find good trust worthy vets, I'm hopeful others can benefit from my mistakes and avoid this place at all costs. read more

My family and I have been bringing our three dogs to Spring Forest Animal Hospital for over five years. We have had the most wonderful experiences. The hospital and boarding staff are incredibly kind, loving and communicate very well regarding the needs of our three dogs. Dr. Gore and her staff are incredibly knowledgeable at assessing and successfully treating the many situations we have had over the years. Dr. Gore and her staff were able to prevent our senior Labrador retriever from having a serious and dangerous surgery that another vet insisted she have. She was able to treat her without surgery and within six months she was walking on all fours and back to perfect health again. We are so grateful. Our beagle rescue has anxiety disorder and needs special care regarding nutrition and calming treatments, he used to be very nervous and scared. He was abused in his other home. Dr. Gore and her staff have provided Oscar with the most successful treatment. He is so happy to see the staff, stay at boarding, play with the other dogs and get medical Care. It is so wonderful to see how happy he is when we pick him up. When we drop our three dogs off, whether for medical care, boarding or play, we know they will be loved like family. The staff greets you with a smile and communicates very well. Additionally, they helped us raise our rambunctious bernidoodle from a puppy who also has severe allergies. Dr. Gore and her staff provided helpful support around training, nutrition and medical care. He is thriving and doing great. Five years ago we did not have a very good experience with another vet. We transferred all of our dogs to Dr. Gore and her staff at Spring Forest Animal Hospital. It has been the very best decision. We love Dr. Gore and her staff and are so grateful for their help in raising our dogs over the years. read more

THEY USE THEIR BOARDING FACILITY AS A SCAM TO FUND THEIR ANIMAL HOSPITAL -- Read story below I have been taking my dog to Spring Forest Animal Hospital Boarding facility for years and it seems like every time we board, we get hit with a fee for some shot that they claim is out of date that our vet (Banfield) claims is not required at this time. The straw that broke the camel's back was during our last stay. We took my dog to Banfield 12 hours before dropping her off at the boarders. Upon dropping her off at Spring Forest Animal Hospital, they said we needed shots. I said we brought her to Banfield last night and they said ok no problem and I left. They asked me to sign a consent form for additional shots to which I replied "No she should be up to date and I don't authorize anything else". While I was on vacation, they gave her a flu shot and a physical. Mind you she had received a physical 12 hours before hand and I explicitly told them NOT to do any charges. They sent me a $90 bill and basically told me tough luck. I have a pet plan with Banfield so the shot would have been free if I was told it was necessary. They lied and claimed that Banfield said we explicitly denied the flu shot which was obviously not true. Why would we deny a free shot? I agreed to pay the shot (even though I was well within my rights to deny the whole thing) but refused to pay the physical (seeing as how she had one 12 hours earlier). They then proceeded to send me bills with late fees for months afterwards despite our agreement. Long story short, I'm fairly certain they use their boarding facility to milk people for money who don't use their hospital. If you use them for both then it might be fine but using them just for Boarders is a good way to get scammed. read more

Do not take your animal to this vet. We took in a new cat recently that needed to be rehomed. She got her vaccinations a couple weeks ago and we left with directives from Dr. Gore to bring her back to get her spayed. We made the appointment and my husband dropped her off for the surgery. We received a phone call an hour and a half later explaining that when they shaved her before surgery they found a tattoo indicating that she had already been spayed. Then the receptionist proceeded to tell me that they "cut into her to make sure there wasn't a uterus". They did not have reason or consent to cut into an animal that was clearly marked with an indicator that she was already spayed. After getting extremely upset, Dr. Gore called me back and was extremely unprofessional claiming she has done this at least ten times before to confirm there wasn't a uterus and that all ten times had proven that the markings were correct. It wasn't their decision to perform a surgery that was 100% unnecessary. When I asked for a copy of the consent form for the surgery they said they never have people sign a form and did not read or show my husband the consent form. They then proceeded to hand me one that was written on stating "verbal consent". Do not take your pets to this vet. I now have a cat with sutures and a cone who went under full anesthesia for no reason. Unbelievable. read more

We left our Shih Tzu for boarding at Spring Forest in November of 2010. Prior to choosing them to care for our baby, I stopped in for a visit. The staff couldn't have been nicer and PROMISED to text me a picture of Sophie while we were away. I left feeling as though she were in competent and safe hands. While we were away, I never received a pic of her, even after I called and asked her to text me a pic. Her reason was, "I've been soo busy". Then don't make promises you can't keep! Also, when I dropped her off it was clean, but when I picked her up the kennel area was filthy and smelled horrible. Evidently, no one was around during the holiday to clean up and maintain the kennel area. Also, when I picked her up I was told that she had an eye infection and was treated by Dr. Gore. She looked awful when I picked her up and I left with high priced medication. The following week I was given an treatment estimate to unblock her tear ducts, which would mean putting her under sedation and flushing out her ducts to the tune of $800-$1000. Thankfully I decided to take her to a reputable veterinarian for a second opinion and was told that her tear ducts were not blocked and was given eye drops that cleared her eyes up withing days and I haven't had any problems since. Shih Tzu's are a breed that shouldn't be put under sedation unless it is absolutely necessary due to their "squashed face', as it's difficult for them to breath when sedated. Given that, why would a reputable vet perform unnecessary surgery?? It seemed apparent to me that Dr. Gore just wanted a fat paycheck for an unnecessary procedure! Unbelievable! Also, I never had the opportunity to meet Dr. Gore. You'd think if she'd at least make an appearance and introduce herself if she's going to rip people off. Also, as previously mentioned on many reviews of Spring Forest Animal Hospital, the meds are indeed way overpriced. read more

I have read the reviews, and could not disagree more with the negative reviews. I searched around the Raleigh area for a place to board my two hound dogs. There were places were you had to pay for the staff to pay attention to your dog! At Spring Forest the love, attention and belly rubs come for free. My dogs are always excited going (and worn out when they leave). The staff knows them by name, they know their likes and dislikes and take care of them like their own. For example, while I was on vacation one of my dogs had an issue that my husband and I had noticed, but not thought anything of, the staff immediately called me about the issue (they noticed it as well) and she was treated. If you truly love your pets, Spring Forest is the place to go. read more

I have been going to Dr Gore for 15 years and she treats my min pin as if it was her own. She is always very upfront about treatments. While I have been lucky and in 15 years he has had minimal medical problems, she always gives pro and cons to different treatment options. She usually goes the least expensive and least invasive route first. She has told me lets see if this works and if needed we can go the other route. She seems very cognizant of cost and tries to keep cost down compared to other vets I have been to for previous animals. Their boarding facility is always very friendly and knows dog by name as soon as he walks in the door. I never have any concerns leaving him with their competent staff. I heard from a co-worker who knows Dr. Gore that if there is inclement weather, such as storms, hurricanes, etc. that Dr Gore comes to stay at the facility to make sure all the animals are okay during these events. I feel you would be hard pressed to find other vets that do the same or go to same lengths to care so much for their furry patients. All these negative reviews I have seen cannot possibly be for this facility. read more

I have recently moved back to Raleigh, and have been to this Animal Hospital before. I came back because they are the best and trust them 100%! I recently took my cat Riley. She had an issue that has been going on the past few years. Her other vet kind of shrugged the issue off like it was normal and no big deal of her chronic diarrhea. Dr. Gore cared about Rileys situation to notice that our previous vet didn't do a thorough physical examination with her ears and anal glands. Riley had a hair ball blockage in her small intestine causing multiple issues that resulted in diarrhea and without the regular bowel movement her anal gland fluid was super built up and super hard. They cleaned and shaved her bottom because it was all a hot mess, and clipped her nails. Also she had a ear infection and took care of that too. She really cares about her furry patients and got to the bottom of the issue, and made sure she got the treatment she deserves! Dr Gore not only took the time to figure out what was going on with her and (even better) figured out a way to heal her without going underneath the knife! The vet techs really do an amazing job! They kept following up with Riley and took the time to patiently answer any questions I had. I had issues getting her to eat enough and difficulty with get her medicine in her at first. They gave me a lot of pointers and ideas to be successful. They are all very compassionate in what they do for their furry people! They are very professional and educated! And let's not forget the front desk associate; She is very friendly, personable, helpful and professional. Every time I would call without saying anything she knew who I was and that it was in regards to Riley. She really stays on top of everything, keeping the business super organized, professional, and really running smoothly! I now have my Riley back to how she was before! My dog, Willow always has such a great stay and I can always tell staff has spent lots of time getting to know her and taking care of her while I am away. The service was quick and the facility was clean... I wasn't impressed with how they handed my cat though. We went in just for a check up and they tried to place my 6 month old kitten on a dog scale in the waiting area. This was my cat's first visit there so of course she was nervous and wanted to explore. She wouldn't sit still so they quickly resorted to holding her by her scruff at every opportunity. Three times throughout the visit, actually. My cat is not an extraordinarily squirmy cat and if you handle her properly she's very responsive. She even yelped while they were holding her--which she did not do when she got her rabies vaccination at another office. Not super impressed. Also nobody ever told me their names, which I thought was odd. read more

I would say I absolutely love this place and my dog who is a German shepherd loves them too--I was looking for a good veterinarian and boarder because I have just moved from Georgia. I met this lady at a park and she recommended Spring Forest Hospital and I just left an excellent boarder in Georgia and so blessed to find on in North Carolina now and the hospital is excellent too. They have so much patience with your dog and I was afraid my dog wouldn't get used to it--Jasper feels so comfortable with them because you can tell the whole place loves animals. I would recommended anybody to SpringForest Animal Hospital and we have to drive 40 minutes now but worth the trip. read more

Dr. Gore treats all of her animals as if they are her own. We have had our ups and downs over the past years (as emotions can run very high when it comes to our beloved pets) but she always attempts to care for our animals the best she can. She goes above and beyond when treating our animals and we are truly thankful in her attention to detail and ability to troubleshoot our dogs health issues (as he has had unique issues). I had a wonderful experience here in the Grooming department. I had my Mancoon cat groomed here and he has not been comfortable anywhere. She was able to groom him initially and then put him under a mild sedation more so because he was moving too much. I appreciated her trying to avoid sedation at all, and to see her handle my cat in such a loving way let me know he trusted her. I will bring Cameron back here to be groomed as long as I can! I don't understand why some of the reviews are negative. I cannot imagine having a bad experience at SFAH. Yes, medicine and care for my dog can be pricey, but I would rather pay more and know that she is in excellent hands! Dr. Gore is THE BEST, most caring veterinarian I have ever met. She has always taken time to explain to me in detail what I need to know about my dog's care, and has never tried to overcharge or perform unnecessary treatment. The veterinary staff is very good with my dog, and she loves to go there. That's really saying something when she's excited at the doctor! The boarding side (though I have never actually had to use it) is immaculate and has the feel of an amusement park for animals! I have met the staff, and seen them interact with some of the animals, and I saw nothing but positive things from them. If you love your animals like family, bring them here- where they will be treated like family~ read more

I brought my dog in for vomiting and he was kept for two days. I was quoted $400 for necessary tests and care. When I picked him up, after many phone calls with no answers, I was slapped with a bill for $1600. I was never called to authorize additional care or testing. When I contested the bill for this reason, I was told I had to pay it. My dog had been coming here for over a year when this happened. I paid that bill, but never came back. They never did find anything wrong with him, probably just something he ate. I was so upset by this situation. There's nothing like dealing with an emotional situation, and being treated like you are just a wallet. We now take all of our pets to Hayes Barton animal hospital and couldn't be happier. They understand that even though you love your family member, for many people cost is a factor. They were honest with me when I brought in my chronically ill, ailing cat. Instead of doing unnecessary treatments without my permission, they called me first to authorize any additional costs. That is how care is supposed to be handled. read more

I left this practice and moved to another because the vet hides behind the techs-in two years I never saw her. She nickels and dimes the bills. My dog was so sick- not eating and vomiting. They ran $600 worth of tests and a tech told me the x rays showed a blockage. They sent me off with a bunch of pills. The receptionist couldn't tell me what any of them were or why we were taking them. The vet wouldn't come out and I had to be a bitch to get anyone to tell me what they were and how they would help. We switched to this vet/boarding facility when my old vet couldn't board our dog for a holiday weekend. They have been wonderful for boarding and seem to really love our dog. She does well there - first time I feel good about leaving her at a boarding facility. Just recently my 4 year old dog had her first health issue which needed testing, monitoring and medication. Dr. Gore and staff were communicative, kind and understanding. Dr. Gore was also quick to suggest we take a conservative route rather than a drastic one. Yes, it was a pricey situation, but that's to be expected when your pet needs medical care. Thankful to have found this office. I drive quite a distance to go here, and it's not always convenient, but it's good care for a decent price. read more

I have been going to Spring Forest for years. This last visit when I picked up my pet, I noticed that his paw would not extend out like it usually does. He didn't have his normal walk or excitement about himself. I was informed by someone not anyone from the boarding facility, that on the Friday before, my pets paw got stuck in the crate and Laura (one of the employees) took the crate from the car to inside of the facility and placed the crate down, somehow my pets paw got stuck in the crate. No one called me to inform me about this incident. Once I picked him up on the Monday (the following week) he was given to me by hand so I couldn't tell then. Once I got home I rushed him to PetSmart to see if they could tell me what the problem was. While I waited to be seen by the doctor, I called to the boarding side of the facility and asked to speak with Gina who I have known for years. She told me she wasn't sure what had happened but would look into it. She also said to keep her in the loop of what the doctor says. The doctor told me it was a sprain and that it didn't happen over night. I called back and told Gina what the doctor said, but now it seems that no one can give me answers. I was told it was under investigation but they aren't doing anything about it. I spent a lot of money on my pet after this incident occurred. It seems that Spring Forest Animal Hospital doesn't want to return my calls to try and resolve this issue. They continued to give me the run around and still to this day, I am waiting to hear back from someone to resolve this issue. This issue has not been resolved. I am waiting to hear back from someone as soon as possible. read more

Seems like they care about the animals, but not the owners. I took my cat here to be spayed. They quoted me a price and gave me an appointment. The day of the appointment, they called me up and said, "did you know that she was in heat?" To which I said: yes I did know. They then said, "Well, since she was in heat, the price is going to be $50 more than the initial quoted price." So, my question for them is... Why didn't they just ask me this question before I brought her in? I am not a vet, so I do not inherently know what conditions make a cat more difficult to spay. I mentioned this to them - that I COULD have told them she was in heat, all they had to do was ask. Their response to me was, "well it's just a more involved procedure." Yes. I understand it's more involved. That doesn't answer the question of why nobody asked me about this in the first place? I did ask if they could refund the charge since this charge could have all been avoided if they had simply asked me one question. The nurse/front-desk woman said she would check on it. She never checked on it, and she never even got back to me to say if the charge would be refunded or not. I get it. $50 isn't a huge amount of money. But it really showed me that they don't care about the people they interact with, and will just tack on charges even if they can be avoided in the first place, and then ignore you when you point it out. It's irresponsible, and they've lost my business. read more

Recently I moved from Cary to Raleigh and needed to find a new grooming facility. I decided to try Spring Forest. I was set up with an appointment and once I arrives I was not on schedule. I also was not informed that I needed to fill out paperwork and bring in my vaccinations. So they called to get vaccinations and I thought I was set except that my dog didn't have an optional shot and couldn't get a bath. So now I've wasted 45 mins of my time already. So as a pet owner I'm willing to pay for the needed vaccine but I have to pay for office visit too? Why? My dog just had his shots and exam. The vet tech was very rude and made it seem like I didn't take care of my dog and I Dr Gorewas supposedly going to call me. Nothing yet. So now we have inept receptionist, a facility that didn't recognize their mistake and rectify it. Sad thing is I was considering boarding my dog there but if this is the type of service provided, I'll pass. read more

If you are looking for a safe, loving and caring place to care for your animals then Spring Forest Animal Hospital is it. For the past 11 years, we have trusted Dr. Gore and her staff with our 4 pets. They are always cared for and loved on and when we board them, our dogs are so excited to come and start wagging their tails the second we pull into the parking lot. The staff is so attentive and proactive with making sure each animal is attended to and given exactly what they need and more. If your do loves belly rubs, treats, playing, chewing on toys and being loved on constantly, then this is the place to go. Our cat also is a Spring Forest Animal Hospital regular, and he is always given attention and care. He is barley ever in a cage, the staff is so good at making sure the animals get as much attention as possible. I can't say enough goos things about this place. We initially took our dog here for vet services, grooming, and daycare. We had positive experiences until we tried to get the office to write a prescription to a less expensive facility. The cost of getting the recommended heartworm/flea prevention from Spring Forest was $46 per month! Spring Forest refused, under the pretense that they had concerns for my pet's health and did not want me to get possible bad product from another facility. First, I'm not sure if this practice is even legal, shouldn't I be able to get a prescription filled where I want, if they are willing to fill it in their office? Secondly, if Spring Forest truly had my pet's best interest in mind, then why are they charging a 250% markup on pet medications? If they will rip me off on this issue, what else will they do to make a buck? BTW, the other review was correct - the receptionist was probably the least trained and least helpful that I have ever encountered. read more
