Worst HOA known to man. Over last years budget on holiday decorations by 8 THOUSAND DOLLARS... some of them weren't even working and only lit up the roundabout, gates and a small handful of trees in the front. RUDE people who work the front office, Linda to be specific. Called after my friend had her vehicle towed on her birthday. She told me it was my problem, loudly spoke over me and told me she was going into a meeting and hung up on me. I showed up mere minutes later and she was sitting at her desk clearly not in any meeting. My friend is a registered permanent guest who has visited me more times than I can count and has ALWAYS received a 2 week pass. For some reason they gave her a one day pass out of the blue and towed her vehicle in the middle of the night. Their parking policy is to tow without notice. Yes. No warnings whatsoever. Ramco is the company they use for their gate guards and they are rude and incompetent. To get a good idea take a look at Ramcos reviews. Made a post of the neighborhood HOA Facebook page reminding people to check their permanent guests parking passes and they removed it, and suspended me from making posts or commenting. We were guests in this horrible, dictator-like HOA regulated neighborhood. We did what we were supposed to and obtained a guest pass. My husband has a valid handicapped placard and we parked in a handicapped space a few doors down from our friends' house. A few hours later, they had towed our vehicle! When we investigated further, the HOA had manipulated the handicapped sign to read "Handicapped parking for picking up mail only?!!!" Who ever heard of such B.S.!!! Handicapped parking is handicapped parking!! There was no other handicapped spaces anywhere nearby and the parking space was the FURTHEST of 3 or 4 from the clusters of mail lock boxes. What an absolute joke. Also- there is no signage to even tell you who to contact when your vehicle is towed and the moron "guard" at the front gate had to search for the information. This HOA is definitely in cahoots with the tow company. Shady shady shady and shame on you pieces of crap. When we contacted the tow company driver, he actually said they don't even look to see if you have the correct handicapped placard or anything. They just jump and tow because the HOA tells them to. As others have said, DO NOT move here. They will find any reason to tow your cars. I was a guest and they towed my car for "Parking facing the wrong direction". There is zero indicators for this. No signage, nothing that says this on the guest pass. These people are straight up low life thieves working with the towing company. read more

I can honestly say that I love where I live...in Spring Isle which is a neighborhood in the Avalon Park area. The location is awesome, with just about everything within a 5 mile radius of my house. Avalon Town Center, where a lot of community events take place, in only 2 miles away and there are a ton of places to eat and shop too. The neighborhood itself has three different kinds of homes. Upon first entering you have town homes to the left and right...the homes on the left are smaller in size than the ones on the right...and regular, family homes straight down the middle. We live in the bigger townhomes which have 3 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. There's a bathroom attached to every bedroom which is very convenient and makes it great for those who are still in college but prefer not to live in college housing. The kitchen and living room are pretty spacious and the ceilings are very high which makes it seem bigger than it is. Amenities of the neighborhood include a pool and club house located in the very back and a small doggy park which happens to be close to our house. The only bad thing about the pool is that it's almost always filled with hyper kids on the weekends and during the summer...pretty much anytime you want to go and simply relax by catching some rays by the pool. You don't have worry about your lawn because the HOA pays a lawn service to take care of it all...but that means you pay for it through your HOA fees/dues. Oh well! Most of the town homes are occupied by college students, newly married couples and young families. The regular homes, however, are mostly families. For the most part, everyone is very friendly and seems clean cut. Haven't had any neighbor problems yet...knock on wood! The few things I dislike about this neighborhood is that you have to physically take the trash to the dumpster yourself if you live in a town home, which can get smelly and nasty in the summer months. Our HOA is a bit much. The stupid gate at the front is always having problem because someone either runs through and breaks the damn thing, which makes our fees go up or it's simply malfunctioning. Like some of you, Spring Isle was my first house and I loved it. Everything was peachy until the new board members came into play. I feel like a prisoner in my own house. I see people getting warning tickets for having those solar lights in the lawn, fabric window shades instead of white ones and the list goes on. I was given a ticket because I had a decorative spring wreathe on my door. Come on now, there's a difference between renting a home and owning a home. You buy a home so you can decorate it the way you want but reasonably. I am not a big fan of the tow trucks, I've had a few cars towed in front of my house. One because they said more than half of my tire was on the grass, which it wasn't. The other during super bowel when a friend didn't know and parked behind a car that was already in the drive way. At least come knock on the door and tell me. We were standing outside and actually saw the tow truck go up and down the street. They could've said something but they waited for us to go inside then made their move. When I went to retrieve the car, the guy was very unpolite, talking on the cellphone the whole time while telling me to sign release papers. With all the things going on with the gate, that's a nightmare. I have 2 friends who are college students staying with me, because of their limited income, their parents were laid off so I figured I could help. Now for them to stay I have to register them 75 dollars a piece, plus 25 dollars for gate sticker plus 15 dollars for pool pass? Even my finance who lives with me has to be registered? I can go on but you get the idea from other post as well. read more

I have owned a home in Spring Isle, a neighborhood in the Avalon Park area for the past 6 years. I love living here. The location is great with schools, shopping, restaurants and entertainment within a 5 mile radius of my house. We are 2 miles from Avalon Town Center, which is the center of our community and hosts many events such as New Year's Eve and 4th of July fireworks, seasonal festivals and an annual carnival. There are also plenty of public spaces; Tanja King Park, Live Oak Park, Founders Square, Dog Park and open green spaces. There is always something to do. Spring Isle is a gated community with a guard on duty at all times. It is made up of both single family homes and town homes. While there is a diverse population in the town homes, the single family homes are primarily families. On a nice day you will find people walking, jogging and riding bikes. I find the neighborhood generally quiet and enjoyable. Neighborhood amenities include a pool/ club house and a small park. There is also a nice dog park. I love that the lawn maintenance is included in the HOA. It's one less thing I need to worry about and it means that the whole neighborhood always looks great. Sure there have been some minor problems in the past with overbearing HOA management and there were problems with the gate in the beginning. But what new development is without it's problems. I feel like the neighborhood has matured nicely and is a great place to live. read more

The HOA is doing a great job?!?!?!?! * Supposedly saved $400,000 and raised HOA fees by nearly 15% to pay for those who are smart and do not pay HOA fees * Placed speed bumps (which make you feel safer) and they are now considering removing them to a cost to all of the home owners * Placed a temporary guard shack with no foundation which now sits crooked in the front of our neighborhood so "security" (hired temp laborers from a security staffing agency) can man the gate at all times thus driving costs up for home owners again * Security company costs roughly $200,000 a year and they have reported crimes after the fact but have done nothing to stop crime * Towing company, which gives kick backs to our HOA board president, has verbally abused home owners that have had their cars removed from the front of their own house. I guess you're right a line has to be drawn and that isn't it in my opinion * Our HOA management company is not correctly managing out funds and this HOA management company was created on behalf of our current president's realtor and was awarded the business. This is the first community he has ever managed and if falling right on his face This community is run by 50+ people representing a community of first time home owners, young families, business professionals and college students. This community is a joke and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to actually ATTEND meetings and see what is happening around them instead of being a sheep. DO NOT MOVE IN HERE. Buyer beware. Stay away. The HOA here is awful. Someone is getting rich off the towing company. If you bumper is 4' over the line and in the sidewalk space, they can tow you. If you are parked on the curb, they tow you. If the guard gave you the wrong parking pass, they tow you. On top of that, a handful of cranks Have the towing company on speed dial and report cars that violate their precious rules and see to it that you are towed. You can only paint your house with approved colors and need permission to plant a tree. read more

First, a bit about myself. All of this will pertain to my review, I promise. I am a young professional living in Spring Isle. I own my home and have lived here since the beginning of May. I moved in to Spring Isle because I was taken with the Avalon area, the lake, and the opportunity to live in a community. My previous home, which I still own and rent, is in a non-HOA community near UCF, so I know the dangers of renters running wild and/or not taking care of property. I also have spent many years running web sites for Homeowners Associations and have had to edit and type HOA rules and regs for a variety of communities. OK, now the review. When I first had the opportunity to move in to Spring Isle I was thrilled. I was so happy to have a place to ride my bike and walk my dog. I wasn't thrilled about the guard gate situation, however I took the good with the bad. After about a week of living here, my wife told me about a neighbor who's father had his car towed off of their driveway. I was lived. I dealt with instances of tow truck drivers abusing power in the past and always found ways to get even. (I am an adult now, so sadly, revenge has consequences) Since It was a neighbor that told me about the towing situation, I decided to check the expansive list of rules given to me at signing. It took me a bit of time to sift through everything but I was shocked at how much the HOA is trying to control my life. How many pets I can have? How people can park on my driveway ? How many cars I can own? These rules seemed extreme and far beyond the color palette rules I am used to. (and mind you I handle HOA's in Boca Raton which has far snobbier people and far stricter rules. Even with my issues I decided to keep quiet as the rules were not affecting me. I knew the towing issue would eventually find its way to my door, and I figured I'd deal with it then. Well last night the time came to deal with the towing issue, a friend was in the neighborhood (although not at my house), and her car got towed within 5 minutes of arriving. This is not an exaggeration, she literally stopped in to a townhouse to inquire about renting it and her car was gone. She said she was unaware that her car intruded on the sidewalk but assured me that there was still walking room on the sidewalk. (later the tow truck driver's lackey verified this by saying the car was partially over the sidewalk). My relaxing night home with my wife was ruined by having to help our friend get her car back. A 5 minute visit for a potential (QUALITY) renter became a $125 ordeal. Not a way to welcome someone to the community. The tow truck driver gave no warning to my friend, or to the other person he had towed and there is no signage anywhere in the community about towing. Now, I know some sad, lonely people will claim that if she had not parked on the sidewalk this would not have happened. My feeling is, that if there is no posting, there should be no towing. When I am in other communities I frequently see cars intersecting the sidewalk with no harm done. Obviously those homeowner associations are not interested in punishing their own homeowners. While dealing with the tow truck incident, I spoke to the security guard and another homeowner. The security guard informed me that of all of the complexes he had ever worked in, this one by far had the strictest rules and tried to force him to get involved in other peoples business. The other homeowner had lived there less than a month, and had never heard anything about towing. As for other complaints listed here. I have only met a few of my neighbors, and when I walk my dog at night, I can now see why. I was unaware of any rules trying to keep people from being outside late at night. The speed bumps appeared the morning after I almost got run over by a speeding driver. Who, by the way, was the TOW TRUCK driver we are paying to steal our cars and extort money from our friends and family. My first opinion about the speed bumps was that it was odd that if the speed limit is 20mph, why do I have to slow down to 4mph to go over them. Poor planning I suppose. I am also a bit confused by the speed bump outside the gate as you are leaving the complex. did they have extra concrete laying around? I agree with the reviewer that says she feels like a prisoner in her own home. If I knew that I would never have a chance to relax and enjoy myself in my community I would gladly deal with the poorly kept rental homes in my previous neighborhood. After dealing with HOA's for the past 6 years, I vowed never to get involved. I have enough going on with my career and I want my home life to be as relaxing as possible. Now I am forced to go to HOA meetings, cause as much commotion as I can to get things changed. Until the rules get relaxed and they stop punishing residents I will never refer this community to anyone, and will make sure as many people know about it as possible. See how that affects property values. read more

My boss owns one of the unit.. Be careful when renting a unit in this community. The back ground check is very long and it may take a month for you to get approved. The manager is not helpful at all... It could also cost you up to $100.00 nonrefundable. HOA fees are super high and the association is never available. Don't buy a home in this community. read more

Let me start off by saying I'm heavily involved with not only the group that Chris discusses but also in the regular HOA board meetings and open forums/committee meetings that have been hosted by Apple Management. It's great to see the diversity of open forums about our community online as everyone has their own beliefs and feelings about how the community should be run and is currently being run. I tend to fall into the majority within this community which believes this community is wonderful, highly marketable, beautiful, encompasses quality homes, and in an great area of Orlando! I also fall into the majority that feels as though this community has taken some great steps toward being properly run and maintained BUT has hit some major bumps in the road since the new board and HOA management company have been in office. Unfortunately the current problem is lack of planning and lack of communication on behalf of the elected groups. Home owners do not feel as though they have a say and this creates major issues. Afterall, they are the majority and should have an active role in ensuring this community lives up to their expectations. Its ashame that the board of directors as a whole moved too quickly to implement things in this community. Its clear that there was poor planning with the new things that have been implemented. The board has certain responsibilities that must be met, however I feel as though the group moved too fast and did not hold up to their basic responsibilities as board members. Their basic responsibility is to ensure the community is properly maintained, safe for owners, and proper planning is used for the future of Spring Isle. I joined the group with Chris, because i felt as though the board should have properly assesed where the community was when they took office and fixed the issues at hand. We (our community) needed a strong board whom was willing to work out the issues created by Greystone and create a solid financial foundation for the future. The new board will be tasked with creating a neighborhood where people enjoy living, where everyone including tenants are welcome- this is going to be extremely difficult considering the anguish that is currently involved with many owners. Of course rules need to be in place and governed and after spending time reviewing our bylaws, personally, the rules are there and with the proper board could be governed with a sense of maturity and intelligence. They are not vague, nor or they lacking to the point where we would need more rules (ie the RRR) document recently provided. There are always going to be owners and tenants breaking the rules-that's life! However knowledge is power and communication is the key to knowledge. Sounds stupid...i know but its a major reason why owners and tenants break the rules...sometimes they just don't know any better and have not properly been informed of the rules or where to obtain the rules. If they are properly informed and not following then they should receive a warning. Once the first measure does not work, then and only then should they receive a fine, a car being towed, ect. Our community needs to ensure that when rules are made they are made with everyone in mind and that its not one individual on a power streak. Now ill address the group that has been created. We are not fighting the HOA, nor have we ever been. We actually have one on one meetings with selected board members and Apple Management on a regular basis. We are simply trying to remove one individual whom has not met up to the expectations of what we or I would expect a board president to meet up to. Personal agendas can not come into play when you are representing over 600+ individuals. Presidents must be able to take the heat and the criticism in a different way than our current president. They must be the book of knowledge and when they don't know the right answer, they cannot simply make one up and change their mind later. The president of the board will receive the most criticism and take the heat for everyone and I personally feel as though Bill has unsuccessfully filled this role. One one hand, he has been extremely diligent at improving the security and updating certain contracts for the community which will be his footprint when we leaves. Kudos to him for all the unpaid/volunteer work he has done. However its time to step down. 250 homeowners have requested that he do so and hopefully he will so this community can be run with a sense of intelligence, proper planning, and knowledge as to what the owners that purchased in Spring Isle expect. Christine, I hope that you will become involved in the community as i think I know whom you are. Ive only heard you speak at one meeting, however I'm glad you feel safe and as though the community is heading in the right direction for your family. I hope that when the new board is implemented that you will continue to be positive about the changes! read more

HORRIBLE HOA!! and I don't even own a home in this community! I have rented here for about 6 years and over the past 3 years they have gotten ridiculous! The security system keeps changing (and it is a pain to get the stickers if you are a renter). I'm all for security and feeling safe however they play fast and loose with who get into the community, sometimes they won't let anyone who isn't a resident in and sometimes the gate is just left open!!! and the charge for this???? Tow trucks are constantly searching for people's cars in the streets so they can screw you out of $200!! Overall the people and the neighborhood is nice, however this Hoa is ridiculous (they gave me a notice a week after christmas for a fine because I left a holiday wreath on the door!) and it is forcing me to looks fo a new place.... :( read more

While looking over the reviews to our community, I was blown away by the things tenants were upset about. Quite obviously, when it comes to the rules of any HOA, a tenant who wants to party is going to have a lot more to feel bitter about over a homeowner who wants to preserve the value of their home, most especially in a declining market. It will be interesting when the very same tenants that are complaining right now end up owning their homes at some point in the future and find themselves equally as upset over theft, vandalism, loud parties often into the wee hours of the morning, speeding in the streets, obnoxious behavior poolside, etc. What was once a "cool" place to live for some young adults has now emerged into a SAFE, beautiful neighborhood where one might be inclined to start a family. read more

This topic seems to be a little dated and misleading. I have lived in Spring Isle for over a year and have enjoyed every day of it. The HOA has gone under new management and has done an excellent job at keeping the community safe and clean. Our HOA dues have also dropped this year because the new management was able to create a surplus. The community is constantly putting on events and functions so everyone can interact and get to know one another. It has become a very family friendly community that makes people feel safe. I dont know what the community was like years ago, but I know what it has been like the past year and it is wonderful. I also feel the new management team and board members will continue to keep Spring Isle a great community. For those who havent seen Spring Isle or havent been in a long time I suggest you look for yourselfs. It is a great community. read more

I'm a home owner at Spring Isle, when we initially bought it we had two teenage daugthers, i didn't live in the house in 2006 but now i've recently decided to relocate from NY. Well just last night i was at my house, getting some estimates for painting. and my niece and sister inlaw came by around 10pm to help me, I've not yet moved in, but around 12:00am my family were about to leave when their car was missing, Mind you I've advised HOA that I will be moving in around Oct have visited the office and never once was I advised that parking was prohibited on certain side of the street, well my niece car was toll last night, what amazes me is that we where all up the lights of my house where all on, they didn't even ring my bell. the security guard was well aware that i was in the processing of moving and they were my guest. i've lived all my life in NY never have I had my car or a family members car toll away from in front of MY house. this is not acceptable, and to worsen the situation i find out that this toll company is contacted by our HOA i was outraged, how can you hire a toll company to come into my private properpity to toll cars away. i can under hiring someone to patrol the area and if something is out of place to report it but to actually toll away someones car. OMG this is going to be all Hell let Lose after I'm finished reporting this to the NEWS to the President of HOA etc. I will even go as far as seeking a list of petitions against this outrage. if you agree with me please support this nonsense. I bought this house to enjoy the last years of my life with my family and friends, not to feel i can have guest in my own house unless i report it to some stranger...... read more
