+Very spacious and lots of natural lighting in the Fairway Ballroom. +Great for booking special events. +Wait staff did a good job for the birthday event I attended. -It's looks like parking can be a little tight if you are having 100+ guests.

What a charming spot tucked away off of busy Old Keene Mill Road in Springfield, Virginia. I had no idea this private cove existed but I'm glad I had the pleasure of visiting this weekend. My daughter's high school cheerleading program has been using this facility for their end of the year banquet for a few years, I was told. This was our first year in the program and all the way around it has been top notch and classy, culminating with this event. There is plenty of parking, and the grand entrance is something to note. The entire club is decorated for Christmas and it is beautiful. It really set the mood for the evening. After a few short words from the coaches, we were introduced to the buffet. The food was mediocre. Some kind of baked/oven fried chicken circled in spinach with a warm, cream sauce. My daughter said it reminded her of a frozen dinner she once had at a sleepover. There were also cheese tortellini, quartered red potatoes and steamed broccoli. The servers put out sliced sheet cake at the end. It looked like it came from Costco but after one bite, I knew it didn't. The cake was the star of the menu! So unbelievably moist. You could tell you get what you pay for and believe me, our tickets were cheap compared to the types of events that normally would be hosted here. I could imagine grand weddings and golf events... Food: 3 stars Location: 5 stars

I wasn't sure what I was expecting, attending a wedding at the Springfield Golf & Country Club -- golfers wearing trucker hats? A Bill Murray groundskeeper? Fried chicken at the buffet? My thoughts going into the evening definitely revealed deep-seated and unfair biases against this suburb to the south. SG&CC was the opposite of all my preconceived notions. Set back from Old Keene Mill, the clubhouse is a lovely brick Colonial, quite appealing from the outside. The upstairs ballroom where the wedding ceremony and reception were held, is beautiful: a large but intimate hall with huge picture windows along the back length of the room where doors open to a balcony overlooking the immaculately kept golf course. We were able to watch players driving and putting in the setting sun while enjoying glasses of wine and passed hors d'oeuvres. Speaking of hors d'oeuvres, they were mostly a hit. A shrimp and avocado ceviche, brie and raspberry filo puffs, mushroom and goat cheese crostini, crab cakes set in Chinese soup spoons, sweet and sour chicken bites, and bacon and gorgonzola wrapped filet were all gobbled down. The dinner of mahi and steak accompanied by haricots verts amandine and roasted potatoes was a success. And the bar -- while completely overwhelmed by thirsty partygoers -- kept the wine and beer flowing and poured some of the stiffest bourbon and ginger ales I've ever had the pleasure of imbibing. Big ups to our server Yana, too, who took special care of us and our friends all evening, even managing to score an extra mahi mahi dinner for me when the vegetarian plate turned out to be a stack of my most-reviled veg, eggplant. A gorgeous space, delicious food, excellent service, and strong drinks: SG&CC is a welcome Springfield surprise.

We decided to visit some extended family for the Holidays and ate here the day after Christmas. Overall, for what was paid, I expected a lot more. Food: I had the Prime Rib Special, my wife had a shrimp entrée, and my daughter ordered (of all things) friggin' pizza. All of it can be summed up in one word...'disappointing'. Prime Rib: I ordered it rare with the assumption that they had a delicious cut of meat slow-roasting for their dinner hour. It turns out that the prime rib was pre-cooked, then re-fired. Furthermore, that it was coated in a blackening seasoning. I knew about the seasoning, but was unaware that the prime rib would essentially be re-heated with some seasoning on it. This was undoubtedly a ploy to sell prime rib that did not sell earlier in the day (or week). Very disappointing. Lastly, it was so unevenly cooked that it was a crime against the animal. Half of it was medium-well, the other half medium. How? I have no eff'ing idea. Mind you, it was nowhere near rare... I am not even sure how they achieved this, but it is a first for me. Despite that, the flavor was good. The seasoning was nice, and the horseradish cream sauce that I requested paired well with the blackening seasoning. Unfortunately, none of that could make up for a re-heated piece of meat that was overcooked in a manner that not even I can fathom. (2/5) Shrimp: The shrimp were large and cooked well, but the flavor lacked seasoning. There was absolutely no nuance with this dish. (2 / 5) Sides: The sides were all disappointing. The veggies seemed like they could have been fresh - at one time or another - but were soggy and overcooked. The mashed potatoes tasted more instant than real - even though I am certain they were 'real'. Again, not sure how they achieved this, but they did. (2 / 5) Pizza: My daughter's $7-8 pizza was on a pre-made (Boboli-like) crust, undoubtedly a premade sauce, with low quality mozzarella cheese. I could have bought a quality, large cheese pizza for this price. This is shameful... (2/5) Rant Time: Any 'high quality' restaurant that cannot muster the culinary skill to make my child a homemade quality meal, does not deserve my business. I believe that all parents want their children to eat quality, homemade food from a restaurant (especially at a country club) - not processed crap. Not only would it be cheaper to make your own sauce and dough, it would be infinitely better as well. I have zero respect for establishments that somehow believe that since it is a child they are serving, that the child deserves a lower standard of food. Unacceptable. Food:  2 / 5 Service: This was the bright spot of the evening. The service was all on-point, expedient, efficient, and very respectful. One of our servers had a sense of humor (the young man), but the female had no personality and seemed like she didn't want to be there. Not so much so that it was distracting; but it was noticeable. Despite the sour taste she left in my mouth, it did not overshadow the hospitality of our server or the manager on duty. Service: 4 / 5 Atmosphere: This is a beautiful set-up. Overlooking the nice grounds and the dining room looked pristine. Everything about the atmosphere screamed 'upscale dining'. Even most of the service met the expectation when one dines at an establishment in this category. This would be a great place for a nice family dinner, a date, or a get-together on a company level, or a family level. Very classy. Atmosphere: 5 / 5 Price: Unfortunately, the price does not justify the quality of the food. From re-heated prime rib that was cooked in a manner that rendered it two completely different levels of doneness, to a lack of nuance in terms of seasoning the shrimp dish, to serving my daughter substandard and processed food that one would receive in an Elementary School's cafeteria, yet charging 10x the price; I could not be more dissatisfied with the overall value of the establishment. For those reasons, I would never return. Price: 1 / 5 Final Thoughts: For me, this is a classic case of a place masking themselves, and 'dolling themselves up' to look like a fine dining establishment, but when you get right down to it; the quality of the food, the preparation of the food, and the overall flavor of the food speaks for itself. I would strongly recommend spending your money elsewhere, unless you are into mediocre and disappointing food for a premium price.

Not simply because he was running late, but because the house (castle/waiting room/party room) was absolutely filthy. I was really taken aback by a business looking like this, even if it's a business that works w/ animals. When we got there, the owner and assistant were on a ride w/ another group. Then the group we were supposed to be riding with were an hour late, so we had to wait for them. It was just annoying, although Steven (owner) was friendly. When we walked into the empty house it looked like a construction space, a hen was walking around the inside and I even saw it poop IN THE KITCHEN! Things finally turned around when I hopped on Sherman (my white horse w/ black spots). He was a greedy little thing and ate up all the grass but he was a great horse. Steven immediately put ppl on the horses and taught us while we were riding. He was a straight to it teacher and I liked that. He definitely knows what he's doing when it comes to animals. He took a bunch of pictures and videos and sent them to everyone in the group. I'm thankful to have such awesome pictures that didn't cost us extra. I'm giving 4 stars despite the filth because Steven was friendly, welcoming, and I enjoyed the experience. Tip: -don't eat there if germs bug u -don't arrive early, there's no point -yes, you're in the right spot, even though it looks a little funky on the outside

I decided to check with my dear friend Google to see if he knew of a good wedding planner. I found 3 or 4 options and sent out an email to all, a couple responses consisted of the generic automated kick back email. I was pleasantly surprised when I listened to my first (of many) voicemails from Grace. She sounded so sweet, organized, and ready to get started. It was this initial contact that really made me feel like this company cared to make a good first impression and we set up the interview. Our first meeting with Grace was wonderful, she left us feeling confident that we could really plan and execute the wedding we wanted within our short time frame. From that day on, Grace worked diligently. She quickly gained an understanding of our likes and dislikes, which is so important when using a planner. She was able to weed out and narrow down my options without me always being there to offer input. I spoke with Grace on a daily basis, she was always updating, asking questions, or simply wishing me a good day! She set up all of the meetings, always arriving early to ensure the vendors were prepared. Grace has incredible taste and always provided her feedback in regards to staying with the style/decor I wanted. Needless to say, sometimes she knew what I wanted better than I did! She really did handle it all, leaving the fun parts for Vince and I to enjoy. Grace has incredible organizational skills, leaving no loose ends. She worked very hard to work around our busy schedule, often catching up with me via email late at night. I was always so impressed that she was working on our wedding at 11 o' clock at night! She also worked very closely with our venue as well as the vendors, ensuring they had all of their ducks in a row for the big day. She made several visits to the church as well as reception venue without me, making sure everything was ready to run smoothly for our day. The day of the reception was PERFECT! While I am sure there were a few hiccups, Grace ensured our day was stress free. It truly could not have gone better. My husband and I really appreciated the way Grace put out fires and solved problems without involving us, always mentioning the issues that occurred a few weeks later! Grace is not only an incredible planner, she is kind, genuine, and honest. She quickly became a dear friend, a few tears were definitely shed at the end of the wedding day. Your wedding day is such a special and intimate moment, it was ideal having someone that you feel close with running the show. She helped me put on my vail, drove our golf cart around the reception, and helped me take off my very complicated dress at the end of the night. We often joked that it was our wedding day I am happy to say that not only did my husband and I hit the lottery with our wedding planner, we gained a lifetime friend as well. Many thanks to Engaging Affairs & Grace!! Vincent and Cassie

I have been to several paint nights and have even left in tears from one of those... that was not the case with Creative Mankind. This company travels around to different venues and offers a variety of painting options. I met up with a group of friends and we painted a Mardi Gras themed picture. Right off the bat I knew it was going to be an awesome experience. We were greeted with upbeat music and beads to celebrate the occasion. Our instructor really put a lot of thought and passion into the class ahead of time. Laying on the canvas was a template of the mask we needed to transfer to our painting. She let us know that we could "go rogue" and change up the colors and skip the sketching parts but I am way not that talented! She had one completed painting on an easel and another blank canvas for demonstration up on an elevated easel. It was visible to everyone in the room without having to stand up. She was extremely accommodating as far as time given for each step, which I really appreciated! It was fun how she would tell us how many songs she would play for us to finish each step... "okay you have two songs to do this step!" There was an assistant who walked around and offered advice and guidance which was helpful. Creative Mankind had partnered with a restaurant that offered drink specials and happy hour pricing for apps! The restaurant provided a dedicated server to us which was a nice touch. And huzzah... my painting actually looked a lot like the sample! Which for me is a huge deal because I am really not artistic or creative with paint. We were all encouraged along the way and our confidence was bolstered by telling us that everyone is an artist but we express our artistry in different ways. I was with a party of six and all of our paintings turned out different and reflected our personalities. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Creative Mankind for any event they host. However, as the wedding got closer, I was surprised to learn that he didn't have any standard touchpoints or phone calls built into his process. For such an important vendor who needs to handle specific announcements, cues, and emceeing throughout the night, I found that unusual. I ended up creating a very detailed document outlining every cue and announcement and specifically requested a phone call to review it. I can't imagine how the day would've gone without that call--because even with it, several cues were still missed. Ceremony: The microphone cut in and out throughout my vows, even though I had asked for a sound check beforehand. I also asked for him to start music at a specific cue (the officiant would say a particular sentence and exit the platform we were standing on). He missed that cue and we stood there in several long moments of silence. Luckily the officiant was my best friend and was still able to maneuver the proper timing for us so that we kissed at the right moment in the song. Reception: During the reception, I asked for a surprise dance floor opening after taking a large group photo with all the guests. We went over my vision several times, but he completely botched it. Then, the microphones weren't working well for the speeches. Throughout the rest of the night, his energy was completely flat. To give him the benefit of the doubt, I did have a smaller crowd, and people weren't as eager to dance as I expected. But I felt he didn't read the room well or adjust accordingly. He played several songs that weren't even on my "play" list, rarely spoke on the microphone, and didn't make any effort to encourage guests to dance or stay engaged. End of the night: I had planned a "last dance of the night" for all our guests, but about fifteen minutes before 10PM, people were already gathering their coats and leaving. Instead of jumping to the final song or encouraging guests to stay, he said nothing. I ended up having to personally ask people to stay and send my maid of honor to tell him to play the last song so we could have that final dance. Again, just didn't read the room. Communication and attitude: Whenever I tried to give feedback during the night about music choices, he came across as rude and dismissive. While I understand that it was a challenging crowd, as the bride who knows the guests best, I wish he had been more receptive, friendly, and enthusiastic. Overall, if you're more of a type B bride who doesn't have any specific cues or requests for him, and you have an easy crowd who you know will dance (I thought my guests would - I was surprised - makes me wonder if it was them or him) then you might be fine. But overall I would say I got what I paid for as he was the cheapest DJ option we found; I regret not splurging on a DJ. Luckily our wedding day was still beautiful, but it was definitely in spite of the DJ services.
