Their group lessons are super fun and the coaches for both group and private lessons are very knowledgeable. They also have a list of coaches on their website if you are interested in private lessons. I skate her doing public group lessons as well as weekly private coaches lessons. It's 17$ to make a ice slot reservation to practice alone or with a coach.

The front desk said it was a liability and they didn't allow them, so my son was crushed that he wouldn't be able to skate. We paid, padded him up with a helmet, elbow pads, and padded hockey shorts. While we were putting on his skates, an older woman came over and told us that hockey gear is NOT ALLOWED to be worn on the ice for public skating!!!!!! So, if your child is learning to skate DON'T GO HERE! What a waste of money and incredibly unfriendly, UNhelpful people!!

Friendly welcome when we arrived and we quickly got our shoes and Kane assignment. I always forget how terrible I am at bowling - so many gutter balls - but it's still fun. My family suggested I put up the bumpers, but I toughed it out au natural. I mean, not naked, just without the bumpers. Then a fluke, I got a strike! I couldn't repeat it but it was definitely exciting. I would come here again. It's fun to try the different themes on your scoreboard, like Dinosaurs. FYI this is not wheelchair accessible. Not sure what that means, but for us average joe's, we had a blast. Four games in 2 hours. House ball selection was mediocre. For some reason, their balls don't have the sizes on them, so you have to go by feel for the weight, and go trial by error. That being said, by the middle of the second game, we managed to find balls that worked for us, and we were off to the races. This place definitely has a community feel. The employees at the rink were so helpful on getting him the right ice skates, giving pointers for lacing and some great tidbits on getting him used to being on ice skates. The skate rentals are the best I've ever seen and ended up being better than the hand me down hockey ice skates I brought for him. After some help from Jeff, my son went from wanting to go home to asking when we can come back for more ice skating. And he has been talking about ice skating every day since we went last week. They do a great job with covid safety and currently the number of skaters is reduced. I highly recommend coming here for public skating, especially on a weekday. I can't wait to get my kids enrolled in skating lessons here.

Parking is in a lot and right there, very convenient. (It's also a short walk from the 63rd Street station, so close to public transit.) Enter at your reserved time and you'll give your names to the person at the entrance. Staff are all masked and there is ample hand sanitizer available. You'll pay for your skate rentals ($3 per person) then. BRING CASH! I nearly didn't have enough, and I didn't see any way to pay via card or electronically. (A venmo account for the rink would go a long way here.) Pick up your skates, lace up, and go in! Everyone was great about masking while we were there, and staff were on hand if we had questions. For the newbies (especially the kids), they have big blue plastic things to push -- my kids were big fans. There are restrooms on site (gendered multi-stall). Note: Due to COVID, there's no eating on site, so if you have snacky kids like ours, plan to eat in the parking lot.

This rink has the worst open hockey culture out of any rink I've ever played at in the greater…read morePhiladelphia area; it boils down to a lack of organization, accountability, and severe tribalism. I've skated here three times, and every time, one player named Nick who seems to culturally lead the place, has ruined it. The first time I skated here, Nick was verbally upset and would not stop complaining about the teams. First he was upset because we suggested playing full ice to get better exercise, and then he was upset and insulted me by saying I'm just there because I "want to score 40 goals" because I was skating on a team with a friend of mine who is a good player. To stop him from complaining, my friend and I switched teams and once the teams were lopsided in the favor of Nick's team, he was content and less yappy. He clearly made snap judgments about me and I assume felt threatened because before anyone was playing, I tried to organize a game, but since I suggested playing full ice and with the teams as they were at the time, he thought I was trying to make teams unfair. I just wanted to skate and get good exercise; the last thing I wanted to do was argue with a stranger who thought he had me pegged as a sandbagger. Today I played again and things were even worse. Everyone there was on board with skating full ice, but right before we started playing, Nick started to complain. Again, had he any ability to conflict manage, he could have suggested why we play half ice and I'm sure we could have happily reached that conclusion. Instead, it became a tiresome verbal argument. While playing, I bumped helmets during a board battle with a player on his team and Nick immediately started verbally harassing me. A play or two later he tried tripping me along the boards and I said nothing. Later during the game, a beginner player on his team flagrantly tripped me and Nick started screaming about me and yelling at me for "going too hard." I was indignant because I was just flipped by a trip from behind and I was being screamed at for it, so I challenged Nick and yelled back. All the meanwhile, the guy who runs open hockey was on the rink. He tried to break it up, but because he has a relationship with Nick and not me, he said nothing to challenge Nick on his regular antics. While yelling back and forth with Nick, we both said mean things, and it escalated to him taking off his gloves and repeatedly punching my cage as everyone else tried to break it up. The game stopped then and we all decided to leave. In the locker room, Nick would not shut up and continued to talk bad about multiple people there while everyone was telling him to drop it. He then looked at me and screamed, "how do you know I do not have a gun or knife in my car?" The guy who runs the rink not only tolerated this, but said "weird transition, but would you guys want to play open hockey on Tuesday night?" To the credit of the guy who runs open hockey, he tries to make it fun for all and he seems like a really good person, but every effort is ruined by Nick, his tribalism, his immaturity, his rage, his anger, and his lack of an ability to compromise and work with other people. It's a shame: I would love to play here because it's a nice rink and a good price and I love the Sunday 9:30 to 11:00 timeslot, but if there is a culture that doesn't police itself or hold people accountable for acting the way that its regulars do, I have no interest in returning to such a horrible environment. I called the rink to give them this feedback after the incident and was told I'd be called back in 10 minutes. Still nothing over two hours later.

The Prospect Park Swim Club is one of my favorite places to go in the Summer. I like going to the…read moresnack bar and the arcade. And they have fun nights sometimes like float night, and kids night is my favorite. If you are new at the PPSC you will definitely love it.
