I travel on a regular basis. And when I do, my preference is to stay at either a Marriott- or a Hilton-owned hotel, mostly because I can almost always count on my following top-four priorities being met: * Cleanliness: The rooms and common areas are almost always very clean. * Safety: Entry into the rooms is almost always via an indoor hallway, where entry is obtained through the front lobby or by key-card access into one of the main hallways. * Quietness: Whether I'm traveling for work or for pleasure, I like to feel well-rested for a better day afterwards. And, these hotels are usually pretty quiet. * Free perks: As an elite member of both hotel chains, most of the time I get free perks during every stay. These are usually simple (like free bottled water), but they're appreciated. I also like to earn free stays for the future (for pleasure) by coming here on business. Within the Marriott chain of hotels, SpringHill Suites is one of my favorites because the rooms most often have: * A comfortable living and work space * A good sized TV * A mini refrigerator * A microwave * A well supplied free continental breakfast * All-day free coffee available in the lobby I stayed at this specific SpringHill Suites location because: * They offered free shuttle service to and from the airport (IAD) * They had an on-site rental car station with Enterprise Now, on to the details. This particular hotel, at the SpringHill Suites (Herndon, Virginia) was nice, but I did experience a few disappointments and/or annoyances. These included: * The young lady who checked me in was professional, but she seemed rather cold. She didn't smile or seem welcoming to me as a customer. * I did not receive any free perks whatsoever, like free bottled water during my stay. * It was NOT quiet here, and this was a huge annoyance. I was given a room on the ground floor near the hotel lobby. Unfortunately, due to this, I didn't sleep much because of all the guest traffic down my hallway, as well as in the lobby. And unfortunately, some of the guests here during my stay were incredibly oblivious and inconsiderate of others trying to sleep at night, talking loudly in the hallway and slamming their hotel doors late at night. * Unlike other SpringHill Suites locations I have stayed at, this particular hotel removes their free coffee from the lobby sometime after breakfast hours are over. This is incredibly annoying for guests (like myself) who like to have coffee in the afternoon or evening. Overall, this hotel rates as an average (3-star) rating for me due to the mixture of pros and cons here. I would not go so far as to recommend that you avoid this location, but I also don't plan to stay here again the next time I'm in the area. read more

I have stayed in this hotel several times while traveling for work. The rooms are spacious and clean. The front desk staff is kind and efficient. The suite sizes vary but the first one I had was very roomy. A kitchenette area with desk, and a small sofa that folds out to a couch, bed, and for a hotel, large sized bathroom. The other two seemed smaller than the first, but similar layout. The breakfast area is small and the options are not abundant, but standard fare. Make your own breakfast sandwich, oatmeal, some yogurt, and fruit. A few small pastries. read more

Spent a few nights at this hotel recently with my family. We requested a suite and that is what we received. It had a nice little kitchenette, a small work space, a sleeping couch, a king sized bed, a good sized bathroom, and it was on the first floor. The bed mattress was a little firm, both my wife and I observed. And she doesn't mind our firm mattress at home, while I do. The free breakfast wasn't very good, but at least there were scrambled eggs and turkey sausage. My wife said the coffee was bad and I didn't see any juice. Luckily, we brought a case of bottled water with us. The bar fridge kept those nice and cold. Checkin was easy and the hotel was clean. No issues here! read more

I was relocating to Virginia with my job. I stayed at this hotel three different times and each time went very well. Customer service was great. I pre booked a ride to airport with the hotel van. They don't run a regular airport van but you can arrange pick up or drop off in advance. Rooms were clean, hotel was clean and quiet, complementary breakfast each morning had a good variety of items. It's a few hot items (oatmeal, some type of eggs, sausage or ham, potatoes or waffles) and other items like bagels, toast, cereal, yogurt, and muffins, milk, juice, tea and coffee. Washer and dryer on second floor are $2.00 each and worked fine. They also have ice machines on 2nd and 3rd floor. Mini fridge and microwave in the rooms as well as small kitchen sink area are very useful. The hotel is within a short walking distance to Target, Chipotle, Pot Belly, Chik Fil A, Cooper's Hawk, Tiki Thai, Honeygrow, and a few other restaurants. The Reston Town Center is a little further away with additional restaurants and shops. They also allow pets which worked great for the last stay since that was our final move from out of state before we went to our temporary quarters. Enterprise rental car has a location at the hotel if you need a rental car. I needed a rental car on my first stay and no problems. Very convenient to have access to a rental car right at the hotel! read more

Attempted to check in and apparently they had some issue with their hotel rooms so they couldn't accommodate my reservation. It wasn't obvious that there was anything wrong with the hotel. I question whether they overbooked or something else came up. They claimed nothing else was available local area they were only able to find, the Wingate by Wyndham hotel. Based on my experiences aren't very good hotels, but I made the drive over to the hotel even checked out a room. It was an absolute dump. I end up calling my travel agent who found me Marriott suites not far from the Springhill suite not sure why they didn't attempt to book here. I assume it's cost feel like I was not treated as a valuable customer in the future I will think twice about staying at one of the lower grade Marriott hotels. read more

The first few days before the roofwork started everything was going fine. The first room the trash wasn't emptied, so we were given a new room. It was clean and quiet... fast forward a few days and apparently there's roofwork taking place for most of the month. Great. We were on the third floor and it was very loud/disruptive from 8am until almost 8pm daily. Not only that but as I am walking in to the hotel the workers were literally throwing particles from the roof without checking if anyone was below. So needless to say I had shit thrown on me... I did want to note though- we told this to the front desk agent, Kin, and he was very understanding. He moved us to a room on the first floor which was somewhat better. read more

Enjoyed our stay at this nicely renovated and clean Springhill Suites in the Herndon/Reston area! Really nice location in close proximity to Reston Town Center as well as Herndon. Parking is ample and staff are friendly. The corner king suite room was nicely laid out with a mini kitchen set-up, fridge, microwave and coffee maker! All guests can partake in The buffet style hot/cold breakfast which has the standard Marriott free breakfast items. Love the mobile app check in and very cool to get early check in as well as the platinum elite room upgrade. This is a good hotel choice if you ever find yourself flying into Dulles (or even Reagan National). read more

Rooms dirty, pillows smelly, bathrooms nasty, walls painted stark white and very little decoration .... I felt as if I were in a mental institution.... and of course , to top it off ..... I reserved a king suite, but when I got to the hotel, I was told that my room was changed to a double-bed room. The receptionist was very curt and added that rooms are not guaranteed. The rooms are fine, but they literally have only cold hard boiled eggs and sugary yogurt for breakfast. I know this is a fearful-of-a-"covid" time, but I have stayed in two other places in Virginia and at least they serve bagels, cereal, oatmeal, juice, milk, breads WITH a toaster and all individually wrapped/served in a cup/packaged. This place does not make the complimentary breakfast a priority, so it shouldn't be listed as an amenity. I am certainly contacting Corporate about this because I called first to check on the breakfast and they told me there would be more items. Also, the woman working the 3-11pm shift snidely told me that I am only allowed 1 bottle of water/day. First of all, I know this to be false. Secondly, I ordered groceries, with water included, since I was staying 8 days and I had to postpone them to the following day due to a non-working fridge. I was placed in a room with a working fridge, but needed water until the next day when my groceries arrived. That is why I asked for 4-8 oz. bottles, which are very small. I believe the desk agent was profiling me racially, but that is beside the point. She was wrong about the 1 bottle per day. The young man working the 7-3 shift was very helpful. read more

I am reviewing the satelite parking that the hotel offers and provides shuttle bus to the airport. It costs maybe $10 lesser than the airport satelite parking. When I reached the hotel there was no sign of this parking service, I thought it would be a smooth and easy process but it ended up that I had to pay them right away, verifying this document and that document. When I told them I had to get going to the airport, the guy said to me the shuttle bus only takes people to the airport every 30 minutes. That's not what I read in the parking instruction, it specifically said that transportation was provided via reservation. The guy sounded like he was doing me a favor by taking me there immediately. Check your Attitude, son!!! The parking lot was way in the back of the hotel and this guy would not even offer to drive the van over to pick up my lugguage so I had to pull two lugguage one big, one small and my purse to meet him at the front of the van. It was seriously the worst hotel service ever! The hotel was in Herndon which meant I had to pay toll to get there. I also thought it was a garage or secured parking but it was just any smaller hotel parking which was wide open. I was paying $48 for 6 days at an open parking lot at a suburb hotel. When I came back from my travel, I had to call the hotel to pick me up and they said it was going to be a 20 min wait. I dragged my cumbersome lugguage from 2A to 2H to the pick-up which was at the other end of the airport. Why on earth would I want to do this again? With an open suburb parking lot and the terrible customer service, there was nothing left to desire. Let's say they just lost any kind of competitive edge there was! I might as well use the airport satelite parking which was closer to the airport and provided plenty of shuttle buses. And it's secured. read more

Clean Free Breakfast 2 tv's in a Queen sized room Pool & hot-tub (with lifeguard on duty! woo..) Gym (didn't see it but there is one) 24 hours of free internet (wireless or wired) CONS: Older Kinda tight on space (at least in the room we were in) I am a flat-screen tv snob - at least in a room that could use a couple more feet of space In-house food options: none (don't fall for the 'menu' in the book like I did. Its a call-out service which takes 45 minutes and tacks on 5-10 bucks more. WHICH was hilarious because we ended up canceling our order and going directly there and eating in 10 minutes for cheap.) All in all, it was an average stay, though price-wise... meh. Staff however, again, fantastic. read more

DO NOT accept room 101! this room is right next to the doors to the stairs & the parking lot. I am a very heavy sleeper and these 2 doors slam so loudly all night long that I thought people were trying to break my door down; I barely slept all night. I did ask & get moved to a different room for the second nite, otherwise it would have been 1 star. Must have been recently remodeled, because it stank like fresh paint & carpet. Gave me a headache. hopefully odors will go away. Nice remodel job, otherwise! Street access was difficult. hopefully you want to go west or north from the hotel, because those are the only directions you can turn out of the parking lot. And the ability to change directions after leaving the parking lot is not easy. read more

We have always stayed here when we visit DC. It is conveniently located near the Ballston mall to park and then take the metro into the city. This place has a fitness center and pool. Also, the breakfast is hot and cold which makes it nice instead of just the basic cereal and milk. The place has recently been redecorated. I have to give the staff credit for being great (quick checkin and all), but the facility is a joke: -it's an older, more run down spring hill suites -could not get online either through wireless or wired connection - heard they've been having problems for weeks (two options at this hotel - basic high speed up to 384K or Premium High Speed up to 1544K) -gym is a joke - 3 pieces of cardio equipment older than me and free weights that I think they borrowed or stole stuffed in a tiny 10X10 room -my room was ok, but $179 was robbery Probably will try the Hampton Inn 30 feet away next time or the Courtyard or just about anywhere else. Would give them a 1star, but I have to give the staff some credit for working with what they had...crap. read more

I am a huge fan on Marriott properties, but wasn't wowed by this one. The front desk staff is immensely helpful and nice. I told the front desk personnel that I was looking for something quiet, and she gave me a room on the 2nd floor at the end of the hallway (that was really nice of her). When I entered my room, it was very spacious and clean, but it had a musty smell. I could tell it was due to the air conditioning unit, which had a smell when powered on. It wasn't a big deal to me, and I scattered some carpet freshener in order to knock it out (BTW, I don't keep stuff like that on me, I stopped at a store and got it when I went out lol). The bed was comfy, and the TV was a nice size. There aren't many channels, but again, not a big deal for me. The bathroom was clean, and there were plenty of towels. Unfortunately, it wasn't as quiet as it could have been, mainly due to the unusually loud fridge, and whoever was above me. The fridge had a high pitched noise and rattled loudly (due to the tray in the back being loose). I alerted the front desk staff, but maintenance didn't stop by. I ended up removing the tray myself, and that eased the noise a lot. Additionally, either the floor above me was really old and weak, or an exceedingly large person was there, because I heard every single step that she/he/it took. Breakfast was fresh and hot, and it was a good spread of eggs, turkey sausage, waffles, and breakfast pastries. There was a decent seating area if guests didn't want to go back to their rooms to eat. I won't complain too much because I got a really good rate. I hate to give such a low review, especially since the front desk staff was so wonderful, but I have to be honest. I will continue to stay at Marriott properties regardless of this stay. read more

I was very impressed by this hotel. I stayed here two nights and, overall, I enjoyed it. The only problem was that the bed was too soft. I prefer I harder bed. Regarding the complimentary breakfast, our room was on the first floor, so we just popped out, and breakfast was practically next door! Location was good for the hospital, Reston Center and the Air and Space museum near Dulles airport. The staff was friendly. The place was comfortable and clean. It had a kind of a Euro vibe. I'm an avid Marriott user, and have been using them around the world for quite some years now. However, this hotel is definitely not one that lives up to their reputation in other places that I have been. First off, the location is not ideal. There's no big restaurants within walking distance, so if you're looking to have a few drinks and retire back to your hotel room without having to worry about driving or taking a cab, then you're out of luck. There's also no big stores around - it's actually kind of in an inconvenient tucked-away space. For the price, I was expecting some sort of cafe in the lobby, or at the very least a restaurant nearby. The facilities are old and worn. The room was a decent size - with a kitchenette, decent-sized bathroom, bedroom, and living room areas. However, you can tell that everything is aged and hanging on by a thread. My toilet clogged three times during my two-day stay. I would have to swipe my keycard 5-6 times before it would actually work. The carpet is old and very worn-in. The A/C units sound like they're laboring quite hard to keep pushing air. Just various things that tell you that the place needs to be overhauled, but someone is holding out. I will certainly not be staying here again, and I can tell you that you can find many, many other hotels in the D.C. area that are much nicer than this one. It's too bad, and I'm very disappointed, as I rarely rate a Marriott negatively! However, save your money and stay away from this one! read more

We reserved and pre-paid airport parking for this hotel about 6 weeks before our flight. When we got to the hotel to check in our car, the front desk receptionist informed us that they no longer do airport parking and told us to go to the Hilton about 15 minutes away and they will honor our pre-paid reservation. Since we already booked and paid, they could have informed us before hand so we didn't have to waste our time going there. read more

This is one of the best prices in the area, and better than decent option if you can a room for less than $100 (I paid $80). Above $100 there are equally or better places nearby, including the Marriott Residence Inn. But having stay at both, I give this place a solid 4 stars for cleanliness, quiet, and overall comfort. Great staff and commitment to the quality of your stay. I feel good staying there, and would compare the level of service (at least in interaction with staff) as on par with a 4-star vs 2 or 3-star property. read more

I stayed here on military orders, while fleeing hurricane Irma. I made a separate reservation on the last night because my wife and kids were joining me before heading back to florida. I made the reservation, then was told they don't take pets, and tried to cancel the reservation. This was literally 10 minutes apart from the reservation and they charged me the cost of the stay. The local manager told me that the corporate policy is to charge it regardless. Also wanted it noted that the government rate is $230 a night, conveniently the exact amount of the per diem given by the government, but the regular cost is $139. Hotel is cute, clean and simple . It is a VERY reasonable price(My boyfriend and I got a room for 69$ per night). Free parking, free wifi, free breakfast, 24 hr access to gym. Breakfast includes: eggs, oatmeal, waffles, yogurt, muffins, fruit, oj, milk, etc. The gym is SMALL. Don't expect much from it. It is basically 3 treadmills and some Dumbbells. (But it's better than Nothing). Customer service was great (Sylvia in specific is a pleasure to talk to) Over all, our stay was amazing. We will most definitely be back. :) read more

I wish I had paid closer attention to the mostly negative reviews on Yelp about Spring Hill Suites Herndon. When we arrived, tired from driving all day with a toddler, I asked if they would please avoid putting us next to a door, especially since there was a CONVENTION OF LOUD TEENAGERS staying in the hotel. So, of course he puts us next to the door. When the slamming became so loud that I was still up at around 2 a.m., I went out to ask if they could mitigate the noise by cushioning the slamming of the door with a paper towel and duct tape or at the very least a sign asking people not to slam the door. The overnight rep said "if he couldn't do any of those things" (code: he can't), they would comp our room. Later, when he was leaving and another rep was up front, I was told they could do "rebates" without their manager. Kind of a helpless crew up front, which does not lend itself to hospitality, SpringHill. Very disappointed and will avoid this chain at all costs in the future. read more

There isn't much to say about this place. It's an airport hotel with extraordinarily high rates for what it offers. The rooms are big, but really worn down. The couch in my room had a hole in it, and the rugs looked like they hadn't been replaced in many years. For $100 a night in this area, it's about what you'd expect, but for $200+, I expected better. read more

The breakfast was good and bad: the eggs were hot but you could tell they were fake eggs - and this property did not have oatmeal. However, the coffee was hot and the cereal selection was good.
