And that says a lot coming from someone who travels all over the U.S. on a regular basis. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone!

After that, I recommend parking behind the hotel, where there's significantly more parking available and convenient access to the building. If you're considering an IHG property, this is one of the better Holiday Inns I've stayed at. There's also an on-site restaurant that's isn't half bad making it a great option if you'd rather relax at the hotel instead of heading out for a meal. Overall, it's a comfortable, well-maintained property that I wouldn't hesitate to stay at again.

The property itself is well maintained, the room is spacious, the air conditioner works great (which is essential when Glendale is regularly over 100 degrees), and I even appreciated the TV remote--something that sounds minor until you've stayed in enough hotels where half the buttons don't work. Unfortunately, my stay was overshadowed by an embarrassing experience that left me feeling singled out. I was sitting in my car finishing a few text messages about the convention before heading inside. While I was there, I watched several people walk into the hotel without being questioned by the woman at the front desk. When I walked in--wearing work pants, a white T-shirt, a brown beanie, and flip-flops--I was immediately stopped and asked what room I was staying in. I answered. Then I was asked for my last name. I showed my room key, but I was still told to go to the front desk. What bothered me wasn't simply being asked to verify I was a guest. Hotels have every right to protect their guests. What bothered me was that I had just watched multiple people enter without being stopped, yet I was the only one questioned. As I got on the elevator, the employee gave me a stern look and continued addressing me in front of other guests. It was uncomfortable enough that another guest in the elevator felt the need to tell me, "If you're not a guest here, you shouldn't be here." I quietly showed them my room key, rode to the second floor, and walked to Room 223. I can't say for certain why I was singled out. Maybe it was because of the way I was dressed. Maybe it was because I'm brown-skinned. Maybe someone thought I looked poor or homeless. I don't know. What I do know is how it made me feel: embarrassed, humiliated, and treated like I had done something wrong when I hadn't. Could the situation have been handled differently? Probably, on both sides. But I keep coming back to one question: Why was I the only person asked to prove I belonged there after watching several others walk in without a second glance? TownePlace Suites has a nice property and comfortable rooms, but no guest should leave feeling publicly embarrassed or singled out. I hope management takes a closer look at how these situations are handled so every guest is treated with the same level of respect.

When I recently traveled to PHX, I immediately booked a room here because 1) It's La Quinta and 2) I stayed here a couple years ago and it was a good experience. But something changed. And NOT for the better. Positives: The hotel was very quiet. I didn't hear other guests or noise in the hallways. I usually don't sleep well in hotels but the bed was very comfortable. I slept GREAT! The shower was good, the AC worked well. Sadly, these are the only good points. Negatives: (chronological) The front desk clerk who checked me in wasn't rude but definitely wasn't friendly. He didn't even look at me or smile and seemed like he'd rather be anywhere else. Upon checking into the room, I noticed a dirty hand towel on the bathroom sink. (See attached pic). I don't know if it was left from the previous guest or perhaps the housekeeper left it behind but man, that is nasty. When I went to the ice machine, I couldn't find it. Checking out the following morning, I was advised that they DON'T have an ice machine on the 2nd floor. HUH??? How can you have an entire floor without an ice machine. And if you don't, at least put up a sign up so guests know to go up or down one floor. The breakfast was definitely below average. No variety at all. All they offered was toast, bagels and biscuits & gravy (which were cold). No sausage, no bacon, no eggs. Nothing. Oh, and only 1 of the 3 coffee carafes were filled. Did the La Quinta corporation lose a customer? Honestly, no. But I definitely will NOT stay at this hotel on my next trip to Phoenix. If this was my first time ever at La Quinta, there wouldn't be a second one. This property was on par with Quality/Comfort/Choice. And definitely not worth the money.

The property is shared between the AC Hotel and Element, and while they are separate brands, guests use the same elevators. Just pay attention to the signs directing you to the AC Hotel rooms. Our room with two queen beds was comfortable and overlooked the pool area. One thing to note is that, true to the AC Hotel concept, there are no traditional dressers or closets. There is a small area to hang clothes, but storage is somewhat limited. The room did include a coffee maker and two complimentary water bottles in the mini fridge, which was a nice touch. The staff throughout the hotel were friendly, helpful, and welcoming. We also ordered food while relaxing at the pool, and it was surprisingly good with reasonable prices. The pool area is one of the highlights of the property. There are plenty of lounge chairs, and the staff does a great job keeping towels stocked throughout the day. Since temperatures were over 100 degrees during our visit, it wasn't surprising that the pool was very busy. The hotel is located in a nice area surrounded by newer apartment communities, with plenty of parking and numerous dining options nearby. Just be sure to check restaurant hours before heading out. My only real complaint was the pool water. It appeared cloudy during our first evening swim, and I expected it to clear up overnight. Unfortunately, when we returned around 11 a.m. the next day, the water was still cloudy. Aside from that issue, the hotel provided a comfortable stay with great service and a convenient location. I would definitely consider staying here again when visiting the area.

We were disappointed to find out it's just an indoor simulator, not the outdoor, multi-level setup shown in the pictures. PROS: -The hotel provides two free, in-the-fridge, water bottles per day. That's such a great benefit, and we continually used them to stay hydrated in this heat. -Hotel staff was extremely friendly, and they'd greet us or say good-bye at every interaction. Every interaction we had with hotel staff was fantastic. -The shower was fantastic. It had a handheld shower head AND rainfall shower you can choose between. The controls were placed on the entrance side of the shower, ensuring you don't get shot with ice cold water while trying to turn it on. -Elevators were fast, and we rarely waited for one. -Room was clean and surprisingly spacious for being downtown. Zero complaints. -Extremely walkable to the convention center. Even in the ridiculous heat, it was a pretty short, not-horrific walk to the convention center. -The hotel is right next to the Arizona Center mall-esque area. There are cute events there (Farmer's Market, celebrations, etc.) in addition to a few restaurants. It could use more restaurants, but they're within a block's walk if you're staying local. -You're walkable to Roosevelt Row and the stadium. It's a longer walk, but it's doable. -You're also walkable to the Lightrail very easily. -They have a small selection of purchasable food items including frozen mini pizzas and ice cream. The room does not have a microwave by default, but they can bring one to your room upon request. CONS: -I saw a lot of people doing laptop work in the lobby. This is probably because the room doesn't really have a business chair or desk. It has a circular table with a lounge chair next to it. It'll work for doing work, but it's not great for looking presentable on business calls (with your slouched position) or back support for 8 hours. -The water from the spigot either comes out "Flaming Hot" or "Warm". There is no cold, and attempts to get it to "cold" just don't happen. Our shortcut: fill up your water bottle than tuck it into the fridge for a bit. -During Phoenix summer, with outdoor temps at 110, we couldn't get the AC to get under 74 degrees with the curtains fully drawn. When we opened the curtains, it couldn't get under 77. I assumed that all hotels in the area had the same issue, but the hotel we went to next stayed under 70 easily. I didn't report that it wasn't working nor have anyone come check the AC, though. -There are lots of bars and restaurants in the area, so I'm not sure the AC needed to compete, but the single in-lobby bar felt very generic and unremarkable compared to some downtown hotel bars I've been to in other metro areas.

On weekdays, breakfast is advertised for 6:00 AM, but it often wasn't fully set up by that time. One concern I had involved housekeeping. I left a roll of coins on the table in my room while I was staying multiple nights. When I returned, it was gone. It appears it may have been mistaken for a housekeeping tip, which seemed unusual given that I had not yet checked out.

A lobby that looks a lot more like a large hotel and attentive and very helpful staff. Once in the room, I could tell these places were intended for people who wanted to stay for a long time. The rooms are the size of a small apartment, or a big one if you've ever lived in NYC. They include a full size refrigerator, cutlery, plates, glasses, cups, a large microwave, and even a dishwasher. There's lots of storage, large flat screen TV, computer desk in the sitting room area, along with a comfy California king bed. The decor is minimal, but clean and organized. The bathroom is the only thing that really resembled a motel bathroom, relatively small, with a toilet fit between a sink and a standup shower. Most importantly, though, an excellent room air conditioning unit, especially in these 100° + days in Arizona (It was 105° with a hot wind blowing when I checked in). A couple of really nice features, a roll out desk for your computer and dual shade window coverings, for those of us who need it dark to sleep. And either there were no guests on either side of my room, or the walls are super thick, as I heard nothing once inside my 'suite'. The check-in staff was very helpful and informative, they told me that Buckeye will someday be bigger than Phoenix, there's definitely a lot of land that Buckeye can grow into. This location is run by Hilton hotels, so that may have something to do with the size, look and feel of the place. They had ample parking on all sides of the building and are located on one of the main drags through Buckeye, with easy access to shopping, restaurants and more. For the price of a little under two bills, it was a little more motel than I needed, but the nicely cooled room was worth the price admission.
