I booked a bungalow in the retreat area to have access to the 2 other temperature regulated pools. It was beautiful the retreat area is very nice, it's further away from Weft & Warp and the Turquoise pool so it quiet and relaxing. Maydeline at the Spa was very helpful and very in touch with guest needs. One step ahead everytime. Colin really saved the day with making sure we had everything we needed. Brennan was also really helpful at breakfast and bringing us water all the way to the retreat pool. There was a minor hiccup with requesting ice while we were there but they did take care of it and apologized the next day for it not being done promptly, the acknowledgement was great and it really was such a minor thing. They have lots of activities everyday that are included and they also have experiences you can pay for.

The hotel is inspired by the colorful and folk art influenced works of renowned mid-century modern architect and designer Alexander "Sandro" Girard. The hotel's bio says he was the main source of inspiration for the design of the Andaz Scottsdale. The property is beautiful to walk around, with all the landscaping, flowers and trees; some of them are marked with what kind of plant they are. There are century plants and aloe and various cacti. The fitness center is located at the spa. It has windows which open up onto the pool, which is a more private pool than the main pool. The staff is outstanding. Savannah, who ran the front desk on my most recent visit, is absolutely amazing and really helped with any questions or small issues with my stay. The restaurant is wonderful for the hotel breakfast. I recommend having cocktails there too. You can see a beautiful sunset from the bar. I love the open design of this hotel resort because it makes you feel like you're in the countryside and you can admire the beautiful views of Camelback as you walk around the grounds and hear birds chirping. It's so relaxing. Parking is easy and you can usually find a spot right outside your casita room as the parking circles the hotel. Toiletries in the room smell so good! Lavender with sea salt. It's really like staying in a spa! One of my favorite experiences at this hotel was taking a late afternoon outdoor class at the spa/gym on the large lawn where we did stretching/light resistance training with the the sunset behind Camelback Mountain as the backdrop. It was glorious. I definitely recommend trying one of the classes or "experiences" if you stay here. Some of them you have to pay extra for, but a few of them are included with your room rate. At first glance the hotel interiors and architecture seem extremely simple and minimal, but then you realize it's actually all a piece of mid-century modern inspired art. It's really fun to walk around and admire all the understated design details at this hotel.

The hotel is surprisingly affordable for Scottsdale, clean, well maintained, and has a ton of character. Unfortunately, there were also several things that left me wondering if time is beginning to pass this Scottsdale icon by. Our room was nice, but it stayed consistently around 76 degrees until the middle of the night. Why? Because there appeared to be a single vent pumping out just enough cold air to rival a household fan. I don't need my hotel room to double as a meat locker, but in Arizona, I would at least like the option. Also, being woken up by a leaf blower each morning as the wind whipped around the crevices of the door... yeah, not enjoyable. The pool was nice enough, but surprisingly small, crowded, and the water was hot. For a Scottsdale hotel with the reputation Valley Ho carries, the entire pool experience just felt a little dated and cheaper than I expected. We also paid $400+ for our cabana, only to discover the safe didn't work. At that price point, I expect every amenity included with the cabana to function properly. Now for the absolute bright spot of our pool experience: Alex! Alex was THE MAN. This dude strutted around that pool serving patrons with a smile and a full heart. My wife, our friends, and I were genuinely excited every time we saw him coming our way because his customer service was impeccable. He was personable, attentive, funny, and made us feel like he genuinely wanted us to have a great time. Give that man his flowers. Overall, I understand why Hotel Valley Ho is such a Scottsdale institution. There's history, character, and plenty to like about the property. But between the struggling A/C, questionable soundproofing, small and overcrowded pool, hot water, and malfunctioning cabana amenities, the experience didn't quite live up to the reputation. I don't regret staying here. My wife and I still enjoyed our weekend, and we made some great memories with our friends. I just think the Valley Ho experience sounds a little better on paper than it actually delivers in practice. Would I stay again? Possibly. Would I request Alex if I'm sitting poolside? We took full advantage of the lazy river and the waterslides on site. We had very little weight to get up to use the waterslides, but I bet you're busy season there's a line. Restaurants on site were delicious and we enjoyed the happy hour at Kembra. The breakfast buffet each morning was absolutely incredible. Thankfully, there were lots of umbrellas available, but they do go fast. We definitely want to come back.

I couldn't have been more pleased by our stay. It was affordable (and had a veteran's discount on top). The free dinner and hot breakfast were great perks. The beds were comfortable. The pillows weren't the typical hotel pillows that go flat as a sheet of paper the moment you lay on them, they actually provided support. The water pressure in the shower was great. There was a real door on the bathroom, not the barn doors that everyone is doing these days. The people at the front desk and in the eating area were all super friendly and personable. This is the first time I've ever written a review for a hotel. That's how pleasantly surprised I was. Please don't change, keep it up. I will be staying at Drury again in the future.

Both are great options, though Eden has beautiful views of the pool and of the Phoenix landscape! Finally, they are VERY dog-friendly with free treats and water in the lobby (you also get a polaroid picture of them), as well as bedding and other amenities. I bugged them three to five times a night and they never made me feel like I was actually bothering them. They were happy to help. They also have housekeeping stuff at the front, dried lavender packs, and shower steamers in case you want a little something extra. The only drawback for me was how much noise there was outside on Camelback Road. I know they can't do anything about that, but it kept me up. So it's something to consider.

Rooms have full sized fridge, pod style coffee machines with a box of coffee pods and teas. But thats not really needed as they have rooms that have access to a 24 hour Lounge that includes complimentary coffee, tea, waters, Pelegrino, fruit juices, snacks, sodas; and during happy hour, cheese and fruit platters and $ private bar. Breakfast is so impressive and held in the lounge, certain rooms come with free Lounge and Breakfast access, definitely worth the extra spend. Think about how much they charge for food, snacks and drinks? Parking is valet, nice and easy but small considering the side of the hotel and can get busy. Waiting wasnt long though as the parking is built into the hotel and not somewhere else. The Duster bar downstairs is a great place to hang and cheaper than buying it the event centers.... but service was so slow at 2/3rds full. Took 25 minutes to get 1st order in and another 10 mins to pay. Our server wasn't slack, she just covered the entire bar whizzing around. They need more staff when theres a function, a game and a big concert all in the same night. Ill put this in at the bottom, this was rare occasion that I've purchased a hotel from Marriot with only a few days notice, the rate seemed low despite above mentioned things going on. Only down side is that there's barely any light and the deck around the pool is uneven in places. We had room service the first night. Young man that delivered was very nice. The chicken fingers and veg paste was good. The albondigas was terrible. Two meat balls With some chipotle sauce. We ate breakfast every morning and it was good. The hostess and some of the other people acted like this was their first time being busy so it was entertaining to watch them scurry around like they were lost. We ate one night at Prado and the food had no flavor. Loved the smell of the restaurant like mesquite wood burning. The waiter was very nice and friendly. I posted that review on here as well. The entire staff were very friendly and helpful when asked. Never understood what was included in the $45/night resort fee and the parking was $35/night for valet and 30 for self park. So be forewarned add the $80 a night to your room rate. Plus the distance to your room can be quite a trek. Anyways would we stay here again?? Not sure. For the money we might try one of the other resorts around the area. So can't say either way right now.
