Simply terrific. We journey an hour south periodically to meet friends from an hour south of the hotel. Close to the harbor and conveniently located near one of our favorite restaurants, Carmelo's (walking distance). Room was clean and bright, had a refrigerator, desk, huge closet, huge TV, Keurig coffee, a spacious bathroom and a pullout couch from West Elm in the seating area. Beds were comfy and a great buffet breakfast l. Complimentary wifi (fast too). Top it off with a terrific friendly staff, all masked, free sanitizing wipes in the room, and super Covid caution. For the price, tough to beat. This is a Marriot Bonvoy property. The Four Points Sheraton on the harbor next door was more expensive, offered no breakfast and wifi was paid only. We will surely return.

Staff was top-notch, making the stay so enjoyable- I didn't want to ever leave! So nice to be greeted so nicely on return and the bottled water at reception was a great touch. Although the room wasn't cleaned during our 6 night stay, towels and toiletries were easily available for refreshing. Very easy process. Pool area was great... small, but pleasant. The pool towels were constantly refreshed, which was great. Perfect location - near boardwalk and great restaurants!!! Free bikes available through PG bike share right at the hotel. We didn't need them, but so convenient- the area bike trails are fantastic! Enjoy!!!

Great location in Punta Gorda right downtown and near the water. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. One of the few Marriott properties that actually gives you free bottles of water - I know not a big thing but something common at Sheratons before Marriott bought them. Our room was very nice and modern. I know they call these suites but it should not be confused with Residence Inns with full kitchens. The bathroom is well laid out - I like the night light built into the light switch. Breakfast is decent. The hotel participates in a local free bike program so we took advantage of it. Again the staff was super helpful in getting us set up with bikes. We would stay here again.

Wow! Super front desk. We arrived late and tired. Two nice ladies at the front desk made us welcome and they were quick to get us checked in and on our way to better night! Clean room by Casey and kind employees everywhere. The maintenance guy was cheerful and super helpful. The free bikes to ride around town made it so fun to stay there. We took them 2 days in a row. Bike down to fisherman's landing or wharf? That's a fun spot! Thanks punta Gorda staff! 5 stars! We will definitely be back!

We enjoyed our weekend stay here. The staff here was great. Everyone was friendly and courteous. The room itself was ok mainly because we got one that was located on the first floor near the kitchen and breakfast area so you can just hear a lot of noise. We also came during fun fest and the hotel was probably busier than it normally is so there was a lot of foot traffic. The door to the room is pretty heavy so a lot of people just leave the room without catching the door so it doesn't slam. I always try to close the door as quiet as possible because I don't like hearing the door slam. Some reviews complained about the toiletries not being filled but that wasn't the case for us. Every bottle in the shower was filled. I really love the tea tree shampoo and conditioner. It feels very refreshing on the scalp. I really appreciated that they provide mini water bottles at the front counter. We were able to get one after our morning run on both days. They have complimentary breakfast daily which on M-F is 6am to 9am and Sat-Sun is 7am-10am I believe. There are a lot of options to choose from. Oatmeal, waffles (you make yourself), hot items that usually includes eggs, potatoes, bacon and pork sausages. There's also cereal, yogurt, a variety of pastries, and some fruit. For drinks, there is coffee, milk, various juices, and tea. At night, they open up the bar area and there are some beers and wine you can get but you do have to pay for that. The prices are very reasonable. I think it was $5 for a beer. Parking was also easy as it's right in front of the hotel. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Lots of reading lights and plug ins for chargers. Temperature of the room fluctuates a lot- sometimes too hot and sometimes too cold. There's a thermostat but it seems I'm not really in control of it? Bathroom has separate tub and shower stall. Large counter for toiletries. The towels are super plush! Not 100% cotton but they're soft and not overwashed. Very nice. The shower needs more water pressure. Also could be a little hotter. There is a small mini fridge but I found that it does not get very cold at all. It doesn't even have a top freezer. So I'd recommend bringing a cooler. There's an ice machine down the hall which I've been using to keep my food/snacks/drinks cold, in a yeti cooler. There is a one cup keurig and they have Folgers and decaf as well as tea. I didn't use it. They don't provide bottled water for it, so bring your own or use the sink. I used the microwave; I was glad to have that. I enjoyed sitting on the couch and enjoying the view outside. The curtains are total blackout and they cover the windows completely. I love that! They also have sheer curtains to allow the sunlight but maintain privacy. THERE IS NO POOL. THERE IS NO GYM. DISREGARD PHOTOS OF THE POOL AND GYM- THEY NO LONGER EXIST. The pool area has been turned into a rooftop bar. Service up there is great. Views are nice, drinks are good. They have a decent menu- it's called perch 360. There was a one man band up there with a keyboard and saxophone. I was entertained. The lobby restaurant I did not visit but there were people having happy hour or early dinner every time I came back around 5:30-630 so it must be popular. It's called 88 keys and I heard a piano playing in there this evening. Parking out back is plentiful and free. The side lot is for the marina and you will get towed at night. It has signs that say no overnight parking. So don't make that mistake. Dedicated smoking area behind the hotel. Entrance from the parking lot in the back with keycard. They have those wheeled carts for your luggage. Elevators are key card only so this place feels safe. Anyone can go up to the rooftop bar without a key though. Desk attendants aren't that friendly- no one greets you when you come and go. They have some flyers by the elevators for local maps and tourism info. They say it's a four star hotel- yet they don't offer very much- no included happy hour or welcome beverage in the lobby, no coffee/tea in the lobby. No turn down service. No bottled water. So- really no benefit to being here v across the street. I did not see any laundry facility here. The best part about the hotel is the location. You can walk to Marion street to enjoy many good restaurants or the other direction to the tiki bar. So I would stay here again because it's nice. But I'd like to have a hotel gym or pool and better service in the lobby. Update : water and coffee available in the lobby but it's kind of later in the morning.

It was…read morelocated at the southern terminus of railroad service on Florida's west coast, which was provided by the Florida Southern Railway. The hotel was built by Henry Plant who was known for building grand hotels on Florida's east coast like the ones Henry Flagler was building on Floridas east coast. Hotel Punta Gorda was one of 20 grand hotels built in Florida in the 19th century when it opened in January 1888. During it's first season it served over 3,300 guests which was quite the feat considering the area was sparsely populated. The three story building contained 150 rooms all with a view of the waters of Charlotte Harbor. The Queen Anne style included clapboard siding, multi-paned windows, round conical roofed towers and a hipped roof. Not everyone was enamored with the beauty of the hotel. Reporter Mr. Peeples from the Punta Gorda Herald wrote in 1910: "The big unsightly building known as the Hotel Punta Gorda continues to be an eyesore and an incubus to the town and there seems no prospect that it will ever be anything else. ... The huge old hulk standing idle and ugly for nine years past is actually a curse to the community." Located in a remote area of Florida the hotel still had many modern conveniences like gas lighting, electric bells, steam heat and open fireplaces. The grounds were beautifully landscaped with camphor trees and palms. Visitors to the hotel included wealthy and notable snowbirds Thomas Edison, John Wanamaker, W. K. Vanderbilt, and the Samuel Colt family. The hotel declined through the years and closed in 1914. In 1924 Barron Collier purchased the hotel and changed it's name to the Hotel Charlotte Harbor. Over three years and $250,000 he remodeled the hotel and expanded the grounds. He stuccoed the exterior, added a fourth floor private apartments, a fifth floor glassed in ballroom, arches to the porch, a boat basin and a 176 x 80 foot swimming pool. In 1927 two clay tennis courts were put in for famous tennis player Big Bill Tilden who started his career in Punta Gorda and he won a tournament here in 1931. Reopened on January 2, 1927 the hotel flourished again with many famous guests until the Great Depression 5 years later. Upon Colliers death the hotel was sold to G. Floyd Alford in 1944 and he let Martin Fleischman take over the mortgage in 1956. Mr. Fleischman changed the name of the hotel to the Charlotte Harbor Spa and poured money into turning it into a health retreat but it never turned a profit. A fire on August 14, 1959 provided the death knell for the hotel. The fire could be seen or 25 miles and firefighters were called out from three counties. At one point the fire threatened to engulf the rest of the town. By the time the fire was put out there was only a blackened chimney and the twisted metal of the elevators left. The cause of the fire remains a mystery. A dedication ceremony was held on September 9, 2009, at West Marion Avenue for the historical marker. It was paid for by the Charlotte County Historical Center and the City of Punta Gorda. All that is left as a reminder of the hotel is this marker, a downtown mural, and the hotels fountain that sits in Punta Gordas History Park. The land the hotel sat on is currently for sale.
