We chose this hotel over the less expensive Hampton Inn across the street because the listed amenities included an indoor pool and hot tub (jacuzzi). However, the hot tub was out of service the entire weekend of our stay. This bummed us out because the Spring Hill Suites is the most expensive hotel in Wheeling so we paid a premium to be able to use the jacuzzi (over $50 more). The website also indicated our room's bathroom would have a jetted tub and we'd receive complimentary bottled water. None of those were true. I asked the front desk and they told me water is $2 per bottle. However, the room was clean and the staff was friendly. If you're staying here on business and someone else is footing the bill, this hotel is a great choice. Otherwise you're better off saving your money by staying at a less expensive place in the area. At $180 a night, including taxes, and a required 2 night minimum it's very steep for West Virginia.

The pool was broken. Every morning the out of town ers stole everything from the breakfast bar. No management lacking employee help.

For $100 with breakfast and indoor pool it was worth it for us for a one night stay. Room was decent, staff was very nice.

The room was nicely appointed and clean. Public areas were well-maintained, and the breakfast was pretty good. A solid 4 stars.

Wow, what a facility! Indoor hot tub, outdoor hot tub, indoor/outdoor pool, men's steam room, women's steam room, rain forest simulation chamber, kids play fountain/kinetic sculpture. The shallow end of the pool has a curtain of water that falls from the ceiling and various fountains/massage jets. For two guys on a multiweek construction project out of town, the aquatic center at Hampton Inn Wheeling was the best surprise either of us can remember lately. HIW had more to offer though. There was a shuttle service that took us to supper, brought us back when we called (and they showed up in about 7 minutes) later, we took the shuttle to the casino We both somehow beat the house for some decent loot. And we taken back to the hotel by the shuttle at two am Both drivers were exceptionally gracious and polite. This unassuming looking hotel hides spectacular accommodations and flawless hospitality. Apparently it actually is because there was a poster near the elevators that indicated that Hampton inn was voted the best in the world. It also won like a best hotel in West Virginia award also. Who knew? Right off the highway, restaurants literally basically just off the edge of the property including, and I would like to highlight, TACO BELL. Room was decently sized, about average. Beds were comfortable. TV was smaller than I have expected recently and I don't recall them having the option of connecting Netflix or any other streaming services which is nice, relying on what is on cable at that particular moment is a drag and I don't know how we did it for so long. Towels were plentiful. Shower was nice. Multiple mirrors arranged in just a way that your partner can watch you on the toilet from the bed if you leave the door open, as we discovered. I'll spare you the photos that were taken. Not a bad choice.

I found Bonnie Dwaine through Yelp, and I am so glad that we chose to stay here! From the moment we arrived, the house was perfect for our stay. Our room was on the third floor, and was renovated with a king sized bed. The bed was extremely comfy, the space was large, and we had our own bathroom as well. We chose this space for the king bed, but although it was very nice it was missing the vintage/historic feel of the other rooms located on the second floor. This room was HUGE, and would be great for a family. If we stay again, I would love to spend time in one of the other rooms, they were all so beautiful and historic. Bonnie was a fantastic host. She was so kind, friendly, and extremely thoughtful. She had a lovely home, and took great pride in making her guests feel welcome and comfortable. The breakfast that was served was fantastic, and she even made us breakfast for the morning that we slept in, and had it sitting out for us with a note when we were finally able to make it downstairs to the dining room. 5 stars for the bed and breakfast, 5 stars for friendly Bonnie, and 5 stars for the location! Amazing Mexican restaurant nearby, and the Moundsville museum is free to guests - located minutes from B&B.

I love…read morethe lodge and the new updates they've made, the glass house, the museum inside of the mansion, the beautiful views throughout the hills, it's truly an incredible place. I have been going to Oglebay since I was very little, and still continue to visit due to my grandparents living there... but I will say the kids Park absolutely needs renovated. There are so many trip hazards and the entire park is very old and has outdated play equipment. I highly suggest they take some of the funds that they receive for Oglebay and put it into making a new park for the kids. The paddle boats and all the new updated activities are great, but for kids to play at the park, safely, that should be the next focus. As you can see in my photos, every season is gorgeous, and the walking trails throughout are really nice for exercise. There's a restaurant now located on the grounds, I would say it's a little overpriced, but the food is good. I've stayed in the room several times over the years, and some of them are old and outdated, and some of them are really nice and new. I appreciate both. No matter what, they always keep the hotel portion clean. I would say the hot tub seems to have some issues here and there, that pool and hot tub have been there since before I can remember. There's new restaurants inside of the lodge as well, and they also have ravenous reviews. Christmas time is always beautiful, and the beautiful bloom of the flowers during spring is quite a sight to see. Apparently, the zoo will now have lions and beekeeper, I'm excited to take my baby to visit this spring! If you're thinking about visiting, do not hesitate you will enjoy it as much as my family I have for many decades.

If you have young children in town, Schenk Lake is a nice spot for a short boat ride or to try fishing! Originally a private country estate of 750 acres purchased in 1901 by Earl W. Oglebay, he donated the land to the City of Wheeling in 1928 to create a public park and education center. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) helped to build out the trails in the 1930s. Overall, it may be worth a stop here if you have young kids. However, I found the park to be kind of "meh" due to a lack of scenic views. At the end of the day, it's just a nice public park.

My family and I (including our 12 year old and 9 month old) stayed at this location last night. Around midnight, my 12 year old woke up scared, saying that an ant was crawling on her in the bed. I got up to check, and noticed a very small bug, the shape of an apple seed. I killed it, looked around for more but didn't see any, then told my child to go back to sleep. Early the next morning, my partner who was sleeping in the other bed jumped up because she felt something crawling on her face. She knocked it off and looked on the sheet to find a BIG bug, the same shape as the little one we saw in the other bed hours earlier. I looked up the description online and sure enough it was a bedbug. When we notified the front desk the were unapologetic, and told me, "if you want to leave, you can leave". They said they wouldn't charge us for the nights stay but we would have to wait two days for the credit. I asked to speak to a Mgr and was told because it was a Saturday, there were none available. After I insisted to speak to a Mgr, the person at the front desk called the assistant Mgr at home. The assistant Mgr. was even less helpful. When I asked how Hawthorn planned to compensate my family who now was 6 hours from home with nowhere to stay, the Mgr said the incident was not their fault and sarcastically asked if we would like to stay another night in their hotel. Needless to say, my family and I had to leave, find a new hotel and are still waiting for the $228 hold to be removed from our credit card. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!
