Decent, if a bit run down, hotel with big rooms and a scenic setting. We stopped here on our way from DC to Columbus. The key part was a room with 3 beds for our family and decently clean. This ticked those boxes. We got a large room with table and 3 beds (with the sofa). The sofa bed was a trundle bed, not fold out, which was odd, but ended up being maybe a bit easier. The whole room seemed more run down than you might expect for the price ($175/night with taxes), but it wasn't actively dirty anywhere and the staff was all friendly. The room had a decent view of mountains and trees changing colors and the view was better from other places including the parking lot. The room had hot breakfast along with continental staples of bananas, toast, bagels, and things. The hot things were mediocre eggs and paper-thin bacon, which was at least something that wasn't pure carbs. There was no waffle iron even thought that's become a bit of a staple. read more

For $200 a night after tax, you'd expect a clean and comfortable no frills experience, but not at this location. The front desk agent didn't set up my key properly so after a long day of driving, I attempted to enter my room only to realize the key didn't work. I had to go back to the front desk to have it resolved and didn't even receive an apology. When I finally got into the room, it was super dated with dirty mirrors and sticky walls. The shampoo dispenser was empty and the shower tub combo had rust all over. The A/C was so dusty and the windows have never been cleaned. I barely slept in the dingy bed with lumpy pillows, but woke up with the worst allergies. I really wish we could've driven just an hour further into Pittsburgh instead of this crapshoot. read more

The building had some kind of a sewage leak that they could not find and the whole building reeked from the moment you walked in the door, in to the hallways, and in the rooms on the top floor. We chose this hotel over the less expensive Hampton Inn across the street because the listed amenities included an indoor pool and hot tub (jacuzzi). However, the hot tub was out of service the entire weekend of our stay. This bummed us out because the Spring Hill Suites is the most expensive hotel in Wheeling so we paid a premium to be able to use the jacuzzi (over $50 more). The website also indicated our room's bathroom would have a jetted tub and we'd receive complimentary bottled water. None of those were true. I asked the front desk and they told me water is $2 per bottle. However, the room was clean and the staff was friendly. If you're staying here on business and someone else is footing the bill, this hotel is a great choice. Otherwise you're better off saving your money by staying at a less expensive place in the area. At $180 a night, including taxes, and a required 2 night minimum it's very steep for West Virginia. read more

Stayed here for business and pleasure (family to visit somewhat close by). Our room was on the 3rd floor and overlooked the "campus" of Wheeling Jesuit. We have stayed here probably 5 to 10 nights in the past, over the years. For the age and clientele the hotel has held up well. The staff is friendly and nice (small town USA). The room was clean and as mentioned chilly. We turned the air up before going out to dinner and running around. The breakfast was good with lots of choices from healthy to sugar rich and a lot in between. We were able to land a suite styled room so we have a pull out couch with a desk for working and a wall that divided the bedroom area from the work area. There is only one TV so you will have to swivel in the direction of where you are sitting. We stayed for 5 nights and it was quite each night, some O&G workers did get up early to work but the doors were not too overwhelmingly loud. The view is great, leave the curtains and window open over night and fresh air and sunshine will greet you in the morning. Another great asset to this hotel is it's location, there are nice sidewalks that will take you all the way from the hotel to Wheeling Park and depending on how far you run you can make the loop down to Elm Grove and back around the wheeling trail. The run to Wheeling Park is just over 2 miles and provides a nice place to read a book and relax if you are without transportation during the day. The complete loop to Elm Grove and back up the trail is just over 7 miles and a great work out with some inclines depending on which way you start out. I ran the trail several nights in the evening at dusk and was not concerned or worried about safety, lots of other walkers and joggers. This hotel is also located within walking distance (for those who are physically inclined) to several restaurants and convenience stores. Again, making the stay without transportation bearable even for a small town. Fun tip...if your room is freezing and you can't get it to warm up in the summer the windows do open ever so slightly. read more

This is home for the night whenever we are in Wheeling; never a bad experience, the staff is professional and polite, the rooms are nicely furnished and roomy enough to be comfortable. A reasonable selection is available for the breakfast fare that comes with the room helps make the morning a bit nicer than going somewhere for a bite before continuing on the trek. On our first stay here a few years ago, we asked the folks at the front desk for a recommendation for dinner which turned out to be a serious winner and we get a meal at that place every time we are in Wheeling, but that's another review. read more

This was a great place to stay for the week! My boyfriend had training for work in the area, so I came along with him, and spend my days hanging out at the hotel. Allow me to lay out the pros and cons of our stay! Pros: Great breakfast selection & renovated lobby! Comfortable, clean, updated rooms! Staff was friendly and just absolutely amazing! They had a pool and gym! (I forgot both tennis shoes AND swimsuit... go figure! Bummer!) Note: Each morning as I was catching up on reading in the lobby, I witnessed staff members in the breakfast area and front desk go above and beyond for guests. (Shiela at the front desk was phenomenal!) One morning, an elderly couple approached one of the breakfast attendants around 10:00am, disapointed that there was no food out. (breakfast was closed at 9:30, and they didn't realize) Without missing a beat, the lady said she would go fix some fresh eggs for them. She delivered hot eggs to their table, and even offered to make them toast! Due to the fact that I was at the hotel through the day, I spent quite a bit of time in the lobby, so housekeeping could freshen our room. They did their very best to accommodate me by telling me what time they would be coming across the second floor. There was only one day that we didn't coordinate properly, and I was out of the room for 3 hours from 9am to Noon. Upon returning, they hadn't cleaned and when they finally came around 2:00 PM, I told her that I would take fresh towels and trash can liners - in exchange for our used ones. She was nice, apologized for the misunderstanding on times, and came to me the next day to see if I would like her to clean my room earlier in the day. One afternoon I was sitting in my usual corner in the lobby reading my book again, and one of the staff members approached me with a cold bottle of water. He said that he wanted to offer it to me because I had been sitting there a while. I wish I had caught the man's name... but I think I overheard a conversation where it was mentioned that he was the marketing coordinator perhaps... anyway, thank you sir! I was thirsty! Cons: Really? I can't think of many... the only true hiccup was the key card system to get into the rooms. Our cards would work on the first try at times, and other times it would take a few attempts. At one point we both had to get our cards replaced to get back in our room. But the situation was remedied quickly by the friendly front desk staff. Hopefully they are able to fix that little bug with the key card system! Overall, we had a very pleasant stay. Except for one rare occasion I have usually been very satisfied with the Marriott brand. After an online and yelp search I decided on Springhill Suites. Although I received a small discount for staying due to a local college visit, the rate was still less expensive than other hotels. My suite was immaculate, soundproof and modern. We were very satisfied. Besides the nice room, the front desk staff were exceptional! Not only friendly and professional, but very knowledgable of the area. They recommended a wonderful local restaurant. Breakfast was good as usual and checkout was a breeze with another great front desk clerk. I know for sure I'll be returning on a regular basis, this will by my hotel of choice. One other thing, the hotel is located on a hill, this allows for nice views of the town below, but drive slowly, deer were hanging out on the side of the driveway. Also, our stay was in the winter with snow, the driveway had been cleared off. read more

Upon arrival, the staff was genuinely friendly and very helpful. They suggested a local "non-chain" restaurant for us as we requested. The check in process was fast and efficient. Our room, on the other hand, was not good at all. The tub had black mold all along the edges. The shower curtain was about to fall off of the wall. Not what I would expect for a Marriott affiliated hotel at all. We stayed two nights. After our first night stay, we left to attend a family reunion. Upon return, the room had been straightened up and the soiled towels etc had been removed. BUT...no fresh towels, wash cloths, or face towels were left. And the black mold was all still there and the shower curtain was still dangling. We went to the front desk and there was a huge line of people. Only one poor fellow was trying to take care of a lot of what was becoming a surly group. We felt sorry for him. He should not have been the only person on duty on a Saturday night. We asked for fresh towels and did receive them. We also told him about the bathroom but had compassion for him and told him not to bother tonight since he was so busy. We asked that he let his maintenance department know about the room. For a housekeeping staff to walk out of a room and leave such obvious filth and disrepair is absolutely inexcusable. The housekeeping staff needs retrained, or disciplined, or replaced depending upon how they have been handled in the past. I felt like we would have been better off staying at a Red Roof Inn or Super 8 Motel and saved a considerable amount of money. read more

Stayed here for a night, and I must say I really liked it. The room I got was very clean. They had a huge plasma TV, which I didn't expect. The staff was very courteous and helpful. I would like to specifically mention one of their employees, named Val. She was this sweet lady who was helping serve breakfast to the guests, and she was so attentive and really tried to make sure everyone enjoyed their meal. They had a small gym and indoor pool on the ground floor, which were well maintained. The Wi-fi was fast in the lobby, but was painfully slow in the room. Thankfully, they had an ethernet cable inside the room itself, which you could hook up to your laptop and surf the net at very fast speeds. They had a couple of printers in the lobby which you can use to print boarding passes or online tickets. There are a lot of places to eat in the vicinity. It is also just a few minutes away by car from the Wheeling and the Oglebay park, where you can do a lot of different recreational activities. Will definitely stay here again read more

Stayed here for 2 nights and I really love it, it's a comfortable home away from home. The rooms are spacious and clean, the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. There are computers and a printer supplied with enough paper and ink for those who need last-minute faxing/copying/printing for work. There's free coffee and tea 24/7 on the ground floor. The continental breakfasts in the morning from 6:30 to 9:30 are always something to look forward to. It's just a quiet getaway place tucked up a hill in Wheeling: reliable, comfy, pleasant. the best part for me? The fast, free wifi in every room, even in the waiting area, where I am typing as I speak. SpringHill on the surface is what you would expect; a clean, biz/suite hotel that seems updated and has a noticeably higher room rates for the area. Not a big deal, I don't mind paying up for a better stay. I wish that were the case. We checked in early in the afternoon to drop off our bags and go out for an evening/night event in town. The room was cold, frigid cold, but this is not uncommon when housekeeping turns a room. I adjusted the temp and we left for a night of fun. When we returned, slightly after midnight, the room was still a meat locker. The original room temp was so cold that I had left the HEAT on in August (but at a modest 72 degrees). The thermostat was reading a balmy 65 and the heat was not running. After fiddling about, the heat would only kick on for about five minutes before making a clunking noise and shutting down. Knowing that the hotel was booked because of the events, and that it was after midnight, the wife and I sucked it up and TRIED to sleep instead of trying the unlikely event of getting a room change. It was a challenge. The extreme cold prevented such for me. Eventually, wifey fell asleep so I abandoned all hope, and made the rounds every 5-10 minutes of trying to force some warm air on (and then off again). The next morning, after a combined 2 hours sleep for me, I was eager to leave. We showered and got ready to move on when the icing on the cake was presented: The hair dryer (a staple in even the cheapest of scary hotels) was missing. This did not make for a happy wife. We recounted our experience at the desk and it was met with a blank stare, a handed over copy of our receipt and a "yes, that happens." Not an apology, not a beverage coupon, not a blink. For the inflated (for the area) cost and this type of experience, I'd stay elsewhere, ANYWHERE in Wheeling. read more

All week there is always cereal, milk, chocolate milk, oatmeal, yogurt, muffins, bagels, English muffins, pound cake, crossiants, and freshly cooked eggs. Weekdays there are fresh fruits, boiled eggs, ham, bacon, and cheese VS on weekends instead of those items there is a make your own waffle station and turkey sausage. Coffee always available all day. This is the best breakfast variety and well cooked eggs that I've enjoyed compared to other hotels. There is also juice available. So there's something to eat for everyone! The breakfast has been well worth my stay! *Laundry washer/ dryer- $1.50 for each use, complimentary detergent and dryer sheets at front desk! Get quarters at front desk too. *Business center- free printing! *Exercise room- The equipment worked well! There's one tv in the room as well as individual tv screens on the cardio equipment, 2 treadmills and 1 elliptical. Also, weights available. Water, towels, and earbuds are provided in the room as well. *Pool- next to the exercise room which I did not use so cannot comment on, but I did see many guests make use of it. The Marriott chain is my go-to! On the road I look for this hotel chain! A very unique location in Wheeling, West Virginia. It's on top of a small hill! Quiet and safe! A few restaurants and a Sheetz gas/convenience station are close. The hotel is not too tough to locate after you exit I-70. I do recommend using navigation (if available) if you are not familiar with the location/area. Hotel sign is visible from the surface street, entrance is just before it. So pay attention! Parking is well lighted and accommodating for guests. Front desk clerk took her time to assist with directions for a lost traveling couple heading to some event ahead of me. Thought that was courteous of her. Finally it's my turn and I inquired about vacancy. Desk clerk had no clue and had to check availability, which took too long. She didn't bother to ask if I possessed a Marriott Rewards card either. To be honest, I am not thrilled about this! These are my reasons for a 3-star rating. Room was clean and tidy. Hot water, and working climate control. Nice and quiet; had a good nights sleep! When I departed, the parking lot was full, so suffice to say this hotel ought to be a choice for an overnight stay. I cannot comment on the breakfast options as I missed it. So, minus the specific hiccups with the clerk mentioned above, I would definitely stay again. read more

I was really impressed with this hotel. When traveling in Winter with kids, the pool is a must. However, upon our arrival the pool was closed due to a water line break that caused gunk to get into the pool. The kids were sad, but the lady at the counter said they were working on it. The next day, the pool was fixed and we were credited with Marriott points for the inconvenience. Well played! They also gave us a late check out so that the kids could enjoy the pool. Rooms were super clean and well appointed. Breakfast was nice with lots of options including bread, bagels, cereal, oatmeal, eggs and sausage, juice, and coffee. The pool is nice and includes a nice size hot tub. There is also a really great patio off the pool that overlooks the river and would be great during the warm months. Perfect location if you are going to see the lights at Oglebay - and much cheaper! read more

I am giving it five stars purely because of how wonderful Shani and Sheila on the Springhill Suites staff are. I was trying to plan an amazing birthday weekend for my boyfriend and Shani helped me plan the PERFECT surprise. She gave me recommendations on a bakery to supply cupcakes - and even volunteered to pick them up and have them waiting in the room when we arrived. Sheila was amazingly sweet at check in - and completely understood when I explained we would need to leave early because of the small snow mountain being rained on home while we were gone. The room itself was very clean and spacious. We were in one of their largest suites, so we had a sitting room, sofa with pull out bed, small "kitchen" area, and then a bedroom and decent sized bathroom. Is it a 5-star hotel? No, it's a Marriott. Is it a well kept, CLEAN hotel? Absolutely. BUT the STAFF sets this place apart. They are so friendly and so willing to go above and beyond when it comes to service. I had originally planned to stay at a (true) 5-star resort in the area and was unable to get a room one of the nights we were staying, and I am actually glad I was unable to because the staff at the Springhill Suites went above and beyond to make it a special birthday weekend! read more

This is the only hotel I stay in when I come to Wheeling. The staff is friendly, Sheila always makes sure to greet me and make sure everything is in order. The location is convenient to downtown and my family in Triadelphia, and since it's up on the hill I always have a lovely view from my hotel room. During my last stay on 4/23/13, the room I was given was really spacious! The bed and linens were, as always, luxurious and comfortable, and it's always the best night's sleep when I stay there. The morning breakfast is so much more than just some muffins - and the staff works diligently to make sure everything is tasty and fresh! Any time you're in Wheeling, I highly recommend staying here. read more

Then maids never bothered to clean up after 1st night. Also, tacked on a $14 room change fee even though we got the room we reserved with Expedia. This hotel was amazing for the price. My boo and I found ourselves in wheeling after a impromptu road trip from Pittsburgh. We tried the casino to spend the night but couldn't get a room... They gave us some suggestions and we ended up here at the Springfield. First off I called to make the reservation and I was using my boos janky phone and it kept cutting out and my fat cheek was pressing buttons but the kid on the other line didn't get annoyed with me. Lol. When we got there it was so nice to be greeted by a pleasant person after driving all day in an unfamiliar area in the rain. The place looked very nice and modern, at the top of a big big hill. Justin, the front desk worker, was simply the nicest guy ever. He gave us directions to wal-mart and anywhere else we may need and also suggested what ended up being a really awesome pizza place for dinner. The room itself was so nice. I've stayed in more expensive Motels so I was very pleased at the quality of the room for the price. It had a big, clean bathroom and a separate room with a love seat and recliner. Nice mini fridge and microwave and a little bar. The hot tub was relaxing but the pool looked a bit gross so I did not go into it. Lol. Breakfast was a nice cherry on the top of our little hotel getaway sundae. Would recommend this place if ur gonna spend some time in wheeling, it's about a five minute drive to the casino. read more

We were passing though here late at night and needed a place to stay. We felt very lucky to have happened upon this hotel. The person behind the desk that greeted us was very nice and polite. The lobby area was large, well lighted and clean. The room we had was also very clean. The nights stay included a continental breakfast. The FREE breakfast had nice choices, the food was fresh and the all important coffee was great! Kind of sorry that we are only staying one night. We would stay here again for sure. This a fairly new place, a little over a year old. First issue. We had a torn shower curtain. I told them the first day. They never fixed it. Water was getting on the floor. The room is too small. It's supposed to be a suite. they cram you into a smaller space than you should be, The bathroom is designed incorrectly. There's one ceiling light. It's too bright shining down on you in the shower. There's also no heat lamp in the bathroom. The bathroom is therefore cold since the fan and light are on one switch. The sink is outside the bathroom. I prefer it in the bathroom but it depends on your preference. The beds were fairly uncomfortable. the flat panel TV was nice as was the small refrigerator and bar sink area. The free breakfast was also good. They also have a small pool, jacuzzi and workout room. The AAA rate wasn't great. I prefer the Hampton Inn. read more

Stayed here twice within the past 10 days. From check-in to check-out, their customer service is excellent. Rooms are nicely appointed, very clean and the bedding was above average. We used their shuttle service, which was a bonus for us. Breakfast was above and beyond what is expected. read more

People were very friendly and helpful. My issues are all with the property itself. It's tired and needs a freshening up. The bed linens were faded white, pillowcases were approaching threadbare. If the pillowcases were in my home, they would be used as rags or thrown out. I requested no feather pillows. It was my mistake, I should have specified "feather free room." That aside there were feather pillows in the room along with foam pillows. There were no markings so I asked which was which. I was told the only way to tell is to squeeze them. I am not joking. Pillows should be labeled somehow. I know it can be done because other properties I have stayed at have labeled pillows. The mattresses have seen better days and should be replaced for a room at that price point. The room decor was fine. The bathroom set up is strange and a pain. The shower and commode were in one room and the sink area was around a wall, completely separate from the shower area. In all honesty, this may have been because we had an accessible room. If not, it's a bad setup. I want to end with emphasizing my issue is not with employees. They were great. My issues all fall on corporate...which needs to put some money into this property. read more
