In the short time I've lived here, I've already noticed several concerning issues that I feel future residents should be aware of.
Let me start with my recent experience in this "gated" community. After my car was broken into, I contacted management because I had noticed the gates had been left wide open for days. I was told the gates are considered an *amenity*, not a safety feature, and that they keep them open during snow so trucks can clean the roads. That would make sense--except it hadn't snowed in days, and the last time they salted was on Wednesday. So why were the gates still wide open?
They might want to review other sites information, because the way they promote their gates as 'security' is highly misleading.
When I questioned this, management pointed out that the lease doesn't state the gates must remain closed, essentially saying they can leave them open whenever they choose. If that's the case, what safety or security does this "gated" community actually offer? This situation could have been prevented, and it was disappointing to learn the gates aren't treated as a security measure at all.
I just moved in on Saturday and have already experienced several frustrations. When I picked up my keys, I was told the community is extremely strict about trash--only bagged items are picked up, even boxes must be bagged, and nothing can be left out overnight due to fines. Since I had just moved in, I let the assistant manager know I would have boxes out temporarily, and she said that was fine as long as they weren't left overnight. Even though it was cold and raining, I made sure to take everything to the dumpster myself to avoid being fined. Meanwhile, many of my neighbors had trash sitting out since Saturday night with no issue.
I also left a few brand-new moving bins outside for about 10 minutes, assuming they wouldn't be taken since they weren't in trash bags--yet the pickup service grabbed them. Thankfully, I caught the trash man, who was very apologetic and was simply doing his job. Before I found him, I asked management through the community chat if there was a way to retrieve them before the truck left, and the only response I got was that the bins had been taken to the compactor and were gone--no apology, no concern, no offer to help.
On top of that, I've been to the dog park, and multiple owners warned me that their dogs were not friendly. With the number of dogs on the property, I believe management should do more thorough behavior screenings--I would have preferred that over paying for a dog DNA test. My dog's safety is far more important.
The property is also advertised as smoke-free, yet my neighbor is constantly smoking on his patio.
After my car was broken into, I reviewed my lease and noticed something troubling: the agreement states that management is *not* responsible for running criminal-history checks on residents, guests, or contractors. However, when I moved in, I was told that background checks were required for all tenants. So which is it? How do they decide whose background they actually run? What made them check mine? The inconsistency is confusing and honestly very concerning.
Across the property, there are several areas with holes that are covered by thin, non-durable plastic. While walking my dog at night, my foot slipped on a broken section. I reported the issue to the office, and although they confirmed it would be fixed right away, no one asked whether I was okay or if I had been injured.
Additionally, the property advertises a coffee bar as an amenity, but I've mentioned multiple times that there is no coffee available. The creamers are usually almost empty, and there have been no cups or lids. The last time lids were provided, they were the wrong size, and I nearly burned myself.
Lastly, the walls are very thin--you can hear almost everything, even people simply walking upstairs.
Overall, for the cost of living here, I expected far better security, communication, and consistency from management. I hope things improve, but my experience so far has been disappointing. read more
