Being newer to the area, I chose Spruce Grove Veterinary as they were recommended to me by the place where I kennel my dogs. I called and was happy to get an appointment fairly quickly. The facility itself is very nice and clean with plenty of space in the waiting area. There's also quite a large selection of pet food and supplies available for purchase. I arrived 15 min early (as requested) so they could get all my info since I'm a new customer. After we got all the paperwork squared away I had a seat with my dog. I waited in the main area for 5 min or so before I was ushered into an exam room. I waited another 15 min past my appointment time before the vet showed up. That's one of my biggest pet peeves, because as a customer I'm expected to show up on time, as should the person I have an appointment with. I do understand that sh*t happens, and luckily I didn't have any other appointments that morning. It would have been nice if someone would have popped their head in and said "The vet is running a bit behind, sorry. She'll be with you shortly." But alas, that did not happen. The vet who examined my dogs was Dr. R.M. Pfeifer and she was AWESOME!!! She was kind and gentle with my dogs. Her exam was very thorough, and she made sure to point out that my dogs were very well cared for (healthy weight, good muscle tone, nice coat, nails trimmed, clean ears etc). I really appreciate hearing that from a professional. She had another lovely lady shadowing her and we all had a nice chat. I'm also going to acknowledge (as some other reviewers did) that some the reception staff seemed a bit...gruff. Let me clarify, no one was rude to me. Just a bit on edge in general. I also understand that it likely comes from getting crapped on day in and day out by customers. But ladies, if you're reading this it wouldn't hurt to lighten up a bit! It's ok to smile! Anyway, my dogs were well taken care of which is the important part. I can't wait to see everyone's happy, smiling faces when I return. :) read more

This clinic was recommended to me by a family friend and I am so grateful that I made the switch! I've only ever seen Doctor Stretch, but he is amazing. I love his calm demeanour with both my cat and dog and my dog is always at ease with him. I never feel rushed and Dr. Stretch always take the time to answers my questions and my concerns. He also did my dogs knee surgery, she healed up so well and it is holding up beautifully! They don't over charge and my encounters and phone calls with the front reception staff have always been very pleasant and helpful! Please never retire Doctor Stretch!! :) read more

Called this morning to ask about nail trimming for my roommates 175# canine. I'm new to the area and his owner is out of town. This guys solid muscle and isn't a fan of his feet being touched. After being placed on hold for nearly 5 minutes I explained this to reception and asked if they could help or point me in the right direction. I was RUDLY told they do but so do others and advised me to call petsmart or barkstreet (unsure if this dog needs to be pilled or sedated or not due to pure strength). I've never called to offer a business payment for their services and received by such a rude person that's to be responsible for customer service. I would not advise anyone to even bother calling this clinic. Save them the "trouble" of your call and try ANY OTHER option, like reception said "there's so many others" that offer much better service. Rated F for FAIL. read more

Been taking my dogs here for the last 5 years but will no longer do so. I had an issue with my dog that needed care asap. As I am a senior and don't get paid until the end of the month I asked if I could pay then,Their answer was no. So now I have a dog that needs care and they refuse. They care more about the money than the state of the animal. It is not like they don't know me. Nor is it that I have never failed to pay them or couldn't pay them. SO it isn't like I wouldn't have forked over their almighty dollar when I got paid. But nope they refused to help my dog. So it isn't about helping the animal it is more about the money. read more

I have been going there for the last 15 years 2 cats and 2 dogs over that time. Dr. Christie Gingras has been a very good vet for my pets. She listens to the owner and together we worked on a treatment for my pet. I couldn't say enough about her she really loves animals and treats the owners like they are a friend. No question is a dumb question spend time with you explains every step of the way .The front end staff is very busy and professional some people say they are not friendly I would disagree they are very busy sometimes and Don't have time for idle chit chat. There are a lot of people waiting they try to get people out of there as fast as possible. read more

Amazing vet clinic. Always go the extra mile for our fur babies. Dr Elliot fit my German Shepherd in for an obstruction surgery over her own lunch break, saved his life, and my pocket book thousands (which gave me more to deal with his extensive after care at the 24 hour vet). Our Siamese just about 12 year old cat started losing weight and not eating. Took her to the Spruce grove Veterinary , Saw Dr. Gingras and was put on meds etc.. Kept for two days.. Was pleased with the doc. Took her back a few days later,, Dr. Lewis saw her and said continue with what we were doing.. Phoned the clinic this time, Dr. Lewis ordered different meds. After a few days kitty was worse.. \we took her back and we saw Dr. Terletski. She was very compassionate when we made the decision to send our kitty over the Rainbow Bridge after discussing options.. WE highly recommend Spruce Grove Veterinary Clinic.. I have full confidence in his care of my doggies. He has had years of successful practice and it shows. I drive out from Edmonton just to see him, as he came well-recommended by dog-people I knew. I was surprised at reading a couple of the reviews. Years ago I used them for my 2 small yorkie's and my mom for her pug... we never had any issues. I've also referred customers of mine to them as well, all with positive experiences. The clinic is always clean, with any accidents bring cleaned up right away. The meds are double checked by a colleague before being given to the customer to catch any errors. I go see Dr. Stretch as he's awesome, but have also seen other vets with no troubles. I appreciate paying waaaaayyyy less vs other places that I've been to and been overcharged. The doctors are caring and only recommend things that you actually need instead of overcharging which is great! I will continue going personally as well as referring people to their services. read more

In June of 2018 I was seeking a vet for a second opinion visit and a friend recommended Dr. Pfeifer. We were so impressed with her that we had our kitty's files transferred and she became our preferred vet. (We also had a visit with Dr. Kudla and she was great.) I almost didn't follow through with booking that first appointment as the front end staff was so rude, and for the most part that turned out to be a recurring pattern. My cat was on 5 different medications ongoing. One of these was a compounded transdermal ear gel, Methimazol, which is outsourced to Strathcona Prescription Centre. I normally would order 9 tubes (90 days) at a time but as my cat got older and more frail (he was nearly 20 when he passed recently) I opted to order smaller quantities. Twice I ordered smaller batches (eg. 4 in February/20) but 9 were sent. After checking the notes in the paper file the front staff could see that 4 was what I had ordered and so allowed me to take what I ordered, and later (both times) since my kitty was still well, I went back to purchase the remaining quantities. On May 11/20 I called to order 3 tubes. I called ahead with my credit card and arranged to pick up curbside. The price was much higher than I was expecting so I asked Heather, the front staff member on the phone, to check into the pricing. I was told that "Management" is the only person who looks after the pricing and she was not in, and it was not known when she would be coming in. When I finally received a call back, I was told that the price I was being charged was correct, and there was no room for discussion. I asked if I could buy 1 tube today (it was a Friday and I only had a couple of days of that particular medicine left) and pick up the rest after the pricing had been investigated, still thinking there had to be an error. I thought it was possible that they themselves had been overcharged by Strathcona. "Management" relayed a message to me via Heather (although it was clear she was standing right there) that if I didn't like the price it could be taken off my bill, "take all or none" is exactly the term used. So she was willing to put my cat's health at risk if I disputed their pricing. For context, on previous orders the pricing worked out to $13.71/tube. On this order, is was $27.61/tube. I understand that the cost of compounding will be more per unit in smaller quantities but this just did not make sense. (As a comparison my previous vet clinic charged 3 tubes for $36.14, 6 for $55.25 and 9 for $91.28.) I had no choice but to pay for all. When I went to pick up, the person who brought it outside was someone I thought must be "Management" (I had never seen her at the clinic before) and this was confirmed. I began by politely saying that I hoped that when she got a chance she could review the pricing again. At this point she went into a tirade and it got to the point where I asked her if I could please speak now. There was no reasoning with her. She even said that in the future I would have to pay Strathcona directly. I tried to explain that the times I did not take the full orders in the past were because of the clinic's errors in ordering (which could be seen in the paper file, should she choose to look) and not my deciding to take only part of what I had ordered. She carried on in a very confrontational tone and most likely did not hear anything I said. So now my "credit" for prescription orders has been damaged because of their ordering mistakes. I had believed that "Management" was Mrs. Stretch, since no one knew her schedule, but I found it hard to fathom that someone with a stake in the business would speak (literally shout) to a customer in this manner and have so little regard for my cat's health. But I later confirmed with a staff member that this was the case. Further, on the next order Mrs. Stretch not only insisted that I deal directly with Strathcona but that I go there to pick it up myself, in Old Strathcona, during their hours of 9-5 weekdays! She could have easily asked me to prepay and pick up at the clinic, as we are all used to doing during these Covid times, but she had to go another step further. So for the privilege of spending thousands at this clinic I now get to pick up my own meds. I should mention that the reason I check their bills is that this is the 7th time there have been errors in quantity, pricing or concentration. (Not a reflection of Dr. Pfeifer at all, prescriptions seem to be filled randomly by other vets.) While there are some vets I would highly recommend at this clinic, especially Dr. Pfeifer, I have serious issues with management's treatment of customers, and the inaccuracy of the prescriptions. That the manager of a clinic would go out of her way to make things even more difficult for a client is incomprehensible. When it is time to adopt again I would love to bring him/her to see Dr. Pfeifer but I absolutely cannot support the management of this clinic any further. read more

Spruce Grove Vet Clinic deserves nothing less than a 5 star! This clinic and staff are utterly amazing always. My pets have been patients of this clinic for close to 20 years. They go the extra mile always. Recently they saved my older Chihuahua when her eye was bitten. With a serious heart condition we were basically told by the emergency vet " so sorry." Cut and dry. And surgery would have cost us over 3 grand. I didn't believe them. We waited till Monday morning and medicated her hourly waiting for their doors to open. Wow! The support, the kindness, and their passion for their patients and customers was superior. Damita survived and is now home on the mend. The cost was 1000 times less than the emergency vet clinic. We have been clients at this office for over 5 years and is by far one of the best vets we have gone to in our 15+ years of animal ownership. While we make a point of seeing our preferred vet (Dr. Pfeifer is professional, compassionate, amazing with cats and their people), we have on occasion seen other vets at the office in sudden situations (injury/illness) and received the same outstanding care (Dr. Gingras and Dr. Perez are also wonderful). I acknowledge some other comments i have seen online that staff behind the counter can at times be a little rough around the edges, but frankly that has more to do with how people approach the staff (and i have seen some people be compete jackasses to the staff). These ladies are good at what they do and if you approach them with respect and understanding they will do everything they can to assist you. Twice they have found a way to get me in on short notice, no hiccup and no problem. They have always been professional with us. I highly recommended Spruce Grove Veternary Clinic to anybody in need of a new vet. read more

There were some concerns with our 2 large dogs and Dr. Gringas, and the Spruce Grove Vet clinic, came highly recommended by a few friends with dogs. Both dogs were handled with kind professionalism. The older dog had 2 operations (one operation by Dr. Gringas and the other by Dr. Stretch) and I feel their care and skill enabled him to bounce back in record time). The total fee, which included a biopsy, teeth cleaning, and a general once over, was extremely reasonable. Dr. Gringas called and inquired about his recovery and again with the biopsy results. Very unimpressed with the attitude of the staff at this location. I would not recommend due to incompetent front office staff.

Dr. Lewis treated my mom like she was an idiot when she explained that my cat had an ear infection AFTER the anesthetic she put him under two days before to shave him and clean his ears and teeth. She took him to give him antibiotics and monitor his eating and give him fluids and told my mom that she would call her the next day to pick him up. The vet assistant called in the morning to tell my mom that he had still been uncomfortable and shaking his head and told her that Dr. Lewis would call her when she got in. Although my mom called 4 times throughout the day, she would not respond so by the time the vet clinic was going to close she drove there to see how my cat was. She then had to wait an hour to talk to Dr. Lewis and get my cat. We will not be going back there for this reason. read more

Went here for years. Decided to stop using them after our daughter had a unfortunate incident with this clinic. So we decide we would also try a different clinic and realize how much better experience that was compared to how our visits had been to Spruce Grove clinic. Our experience with Spruce Grove was not bad, but never was excellent. The new clinic we chose to try is more pleasant for us and our pet & and less costs as well. read more

Visited them 12 years ago for my Lhasa as a pup and was extremely pleased with the staff, the cleanliness of the clinic, the pricing and the exceptional service. Went back just yesterday (12 years later) again for my Lhasa, I traveled nearly 500 km to bring back him to this clinic....I was so so pleased. We had our first visit to spruce grove veterinary clinic today after or boxer became ill, we were worried he may have possibly eaten a plastic part off a toy, he had us up most of the night gagging and coughing but unable to get sick, after reading some great reviews online I decided to call and see if I could get an app at the clinic they got me in only a few hours later !the staff was great on the phone! Then when we arrived we had doctor Kudla she was soo kind and gentle with our dog completely put me at ease and went threw all the possibilities of what may be wronge, after doing some xrays which we could hear them in the next room giving him and comforting while doing so, we ruled out a blockage ,but also had her take us back and show us the xrays and what she was seeing was more so he had a very upset stomach ,she also noticed and brought to our attention that our dog although he is only 5 is already having issues with his spine fusing together which will one day require surgery ,but meanwhile letting us know what supplements we can give him now to help further deteriation! She prescribed some meds went thew them all in detail as he was on 3 different ones and assured us if we had any questions or concerns not to hesitate to call, and now with all the xrays and meds ,visit i was expecting a large bill and to my surprise they were very reasonable 270 ,I live in edmonton and its about a 25-30 min drive but beyond worth it and im very glad I found it we will be going here for all our dogs future needs , I highly recommend them to any pet owner ,staff and doctors are simply amazing :) read more

I've been taking my dogs here for MANY years now and had some prior problems but once we started seeing Dr. Kudla, it was good. Unfortunately for us, she is on Mat leave and of course this is when my dog needs her. So we booked an exam with another vet as my 15 year old blue heeler can't walk on his front leg and his back two already have arthritis. When we got there we got in fast and the vet was nice, but he had huge swelling in his front right breast and his front leg and she mentioned a few theories and prescribed Gabapentin and Tramadol, pain meds (strong ones). No anti-flamitories or antibiotics. I told her that I don't like using Metacam as I heard how it can affect the kidney's. she said try those and come back in a week or so, this was $91.00. So not even a couple of days I called back as he was not getting better and I didn't feel comfortable with the drugs or the diagnosis. So I couldn't get in again for 4 days or so and I asked for a different vet for a second opinion. This time I waited, and this vet was nice enough...after 2 hours, 2 X-rays, blood work and another examination. she concluded that he needed anti inflammatories and antibiotics. she was concerned about the swelling as well. she recommended Metacam and Tramadol for the pain and that Metacam was an anti inflammatories. so I have now a $470 bill and when I spoke to the manager about waiving my first visit, as obviously the diagnosis wasn't correct, she said; "no it was, you were told to come back and you did. You were also told to take the Metacam as an anti inflammatory with the pain meds"....I said NO, "I specifically said I wouldn't use Metacam." So now I'm out $561 and I STILL have a dog that can't walk and have to go back again. I would not recommend this vet clinic as they can't seem to do their jobs, which is to find the problem and not kill my dog by giving numerous, CONFLICTING drugs, that are hard on his perfectly good kidneys. Drugs are not the cure, your jobs are to figure out the problem and fix it without costing me my dogs life of my life savings for REPEAT visits. read more

I have no problem with the care my dog gets in this clinic. The vets and staff are great. My dog has been with them 4 -5 years. Now my dog has chronic problem, heart failure and chronic cough. My problem and big disappointment was when I talked to the owner/manager Judy. I phoned to ask about my bill from 2 days ago which was higher from previous bill. I was always charged for my dog condition now as recheck for the same condition and for xray as additional. I was charged more on the first ones . Then the following visits was cheaper. She called me after looking at the file not sounding happy and she told me that I said my dog's cough was worsened. My dog' cough never goes away. I just need new cough suppressant because the others doesn't work. This is the 4th one that I got now. So I told her that nothing has changed. She said "this has got to stop. "the abusing" . I'm puzzled by her words. Who's abusing what? all I want to know is why I was charged different. So she said the Vet has been nice to charge me what I was charged before. That follow ups have limits. She was giving me a lecture that sounds I was doing something wrong. I just needed to know why I was charged more this time. And that was a big mistake. I don't need to hear her lecture and by the way, she hanged up on me so I called again. I asked for person who I was talking with before. That's when she introduced herself to me as the owner/manager. I was shocked the way she talked to me when I heard that. Very arrogant. She had also asked me if I would know what was wrong with my dog? like what was her point? she said all I want is less expense. After spending thousands of money in her clinic! My dog also got his tooth pulled there. That's what I got. Because of how she treats me on the phone, I will have to look now for a new veterinary clinic. I Just thought I'd share with you my experience today at this clinic with the Owner/Manager. I told her that I thought she would have been nicer to talk to or sympathetic. My dog has heart failure and It cost me $200 a month for his medicines that I get from them not including all the exam fees. read more
