I see Allie and she is one of the best stylists I have ever had. I am wildly picky about my blonde hair because of a previous experience, and Allie has been super patient about this. I feel so polished again, my hair looks healthy, and I am so happy I found her! My hair will actually hold a style again and I get nonstop compliments. She also gives an amazing head massage. The salon is really pretty also and reception is super nice. Extra details: there is ample parking in the front of the salon. Do make an appointment in advance, and be sure to pre-book your next appt. I did see in one comments that someone had sticker shock about the pricing at this salon, and I think Allie is fairly priced for her talent. I've been coming to Square One for years and the improvements they make just get better throughout the years. I highly recommend you trying this salon even though they can be a little more pricey as the quality of their services exceed my expectations. Every time I come here or call and talk to their manager Lisa, she knows my name and is always upbeat and makes me feel welcome at the salon. I found out recently that you can get a dry style that is relatively less expensive. I come once a month to see Sophia to get my eyebrows done and she always exceeds expectations. I don't have anything negative to say because ever since Lisa took over things have been amazing. I did a few issues with the last manager but that was so many years ago. She listened to what I wanted and looked at the picture I brought and gave me exactly what I asked for. I wasn't sure about the bangs at first because I hadn't had bangs in so long (even thought it was exactly how it looked in the pic) so she fixed them a little more to something I was comfortable with. You can schedule an appointment online. They fill up pretty quickly. Also the prices varies by who does the haircut/style. Beautiful, bright Aveda salon! First there are few salons in New Albany but this one is conveniently located and is a full service salon and spa which is great. You can expect aromatherapy, warm smiles and a complimentary tea to help you relax into some self care time. While the facility is small, they made good use of the space and maintain a separate quiet space for the spa services away from the hair side. I came for a massage which was nice and relaxing although I should've checked who I was booking with because it was definitely more of a relaxation massage as opposed to the deep tissue experience I was wanting but I'd say that was my mistake in booking. read more

The first time I came in to get my haircut on my birthday at the end of March '15 I had a great experience. I had extremely curly and thick long hair (waist length when pulled to the front and straight) the stylist straightened it and they cut it dry.I loved everything and because I was wanting to grow my hair out I decided to come back in July. I picked the same stylist only this time I didn't want my hair straight because as I was trying to grow it out putting heat on it seemed counter productive. My stylist recognized that I was in recently and said, well there shouldn't be much split ends to take off this time we decided on 2 inches and she cut me wet. I was concerned with how much hair was in the ground by the end and asked how much was taken off she told me it was 2 inches but looked a lot more because she "texturized a lot and took off a lot of weight" I payed left a nice tip and by the time I got home my hair had dried and shrunk up due to the curls I was SHOCKED at how short it was and started crying. I pulled out my flat iron and my hair was now barely past my shoulders My husband called because I was crying and they told me a manager could call back. She did and she said she would need to talk to the stylist Another call back on anther day and manager just told me that the stylist maintained that only 2 inches was taken off. I told her I would come in and show her and show her a picture I took a month before my appointment and she said it wasn't nessecary. I told her I wanted my money back for the $75 hair cut alone and she said she can't do that only the owner could but he wouldn't be back from vacation for another week. Great salon!! Since moving to Columbus area over a year and a half ago I had been trying to find a salon and stylist that I truly liked... And about 8 months ago I found this place.... in a roundabout way....(whole 'nother story). The place is very nice... in true Aveda fashion... oh yeah, this is an Aveda salon. When you arrive for your appointment, the receptionists always offer you either fresh coffee, tea, or water... which I find very nice! AND, if you're wearing a coat, they will take it for you, and then return it an help put it on when you're finished... very nice service!! And if you've ever read ANY of my reviews, you know how I love and truly appreciate what used to be a common thing called CUSTOMER SERVICE. Now it's just some lost art form that only a few business seem to still be aware of... and SQUARE ONE gets an AAA+++ for that!! Anyway, I am truly dedicated to my stylist, Julie!! She is great!! I have lots of hair issues, and she tells me the way it is. I can't believe she hasn't told me to shut up about my hair already... but she keeps working with me. Have been here multiple times and have seen multiple stylists. Never had a problem before and always left happy. However this time after requesting my balayage be taken up/touched up; just left incredibly unhappy and feel a little ripped off. The touch up balayage didn't take at all- you can barely even see the newly added color. The previous color at the bottom was already there. The stylist knew the color hardly stuck and did offer a repair whenever I had time, although I'm not sure when I'll have another 3.5 hours. I was told I was only charged the base price of the balayage due to it not really sticking but if the color didn't even stick I feel like I should have only been charged for the cut/blowout and would be happy to pay the price of the color once it was actually repaired/stuck to my hair. I feel like I just payed an outrageous price for just a haircut as I'll need to either go back when I have time and hope it comes out correctly by the same stylist as I already payed for it or pay for a new stylist/salon and be out the money that I had spent. read more

A unique and calming environment and experience. I've never been to an all service salon until now and this place definitely didn't disappoint. I called for an appointment last minute and they got me in the same day within half an hour. I was warmly greeted and was offered water, coffee, or tea. The nail stations and massage rooms are offset in another section away from the noisier hair salon. There were 3 manicure and pedicure stations. All the polishes were neatly organized, some colors had regular and gel matches. The atmosphere was so warm and welcoming, I couldn't get over it. Anthony gave me a wonderfully relaxing pedicure, taking his time with TLC and precision. I absolutely recommend him. I'll most definitely be back to try all their other services as well. I was looking for a salon where I could have someone suggest a low maintenance haircut. Someone suggested that I try Square One and I'm really happy that I did. I got to the salon early and had already booked Nicole a director stylist. I was checked in and offered water or hot tea. I then received a tour of the salon. They were in a remodel but showed me where other services were completed. I was then called for my wash where I also received a free facial and it was amazing. My stylist apologized for being a little late but I was okay. Nicole listened to what I was looking for and showed her pictures. I asked for her suggestion and I loved what she suggested. I would highly recommend going to Eve! I went in with two terribly done balayage's and was too embarrassed to even wear my hair down. It was spotted and orange.... it was just a disaster. I went in there so upset with my hair to the point where I was crying and Eve made me feel heard and well taken care of from the start. I was charged for services I did not request. I came in for a partial highlight and was surprised when my bill was double the cost at the end of my service. When I asked about it, the front desk person said an extra bowl of color had been used. I told her that still did not equal the amount I was being charged (nowhere near). She then went to the back to ask my artist what happened. When she came back, she said the artist had used an additional two bowls of toner (which I did not request and didn't even know had been done). I told her I did not request toner and definitely would not have approved that had I known. She said she would make a note in my file for the future. So I ended up paying almost $200 for a partial highlight that you can barely tell I got. I was extremely upset and shocked that a reputable salon would charge clients without their consent. (I also discovered that this had happened on my last visit as well but I didn't catch it). I spoke with an asst manager the next day and she just said that she would ask the artist what happened. I'm currently awaiting a call from management, but I do not feel good about this experience and will likely not return. I will update review if anything happens. read more

Had a bad experience with Kelsey recently. She's advanced stylist, so I expected professional service for 48$... She made good haircut, but it was just straight one layer, nothing special. She was pretty aggressive while washing my hair, I thought she would just pull my hair out. But it wasn't a worse part. When she started combing my hair before cut and especially after while drying I was literally crying, I'd say she wasn't combing my hair but my skin on my head and my ears. It was so aggressive! Thanks God my ears are still with me and my earrings are not damaged. I went out from this salon with strong headache and my ears are still hurt. Don't recommend this place. Background information (for context): Over the course of the last few years, it is safe to say I've received over 30 facials and visited roughly 15 salons in 7 different states. I share this information to illustrate that I am familiar with the process of booking appointments. I know the difference between a 60-minute facial and a 90-minute facial. When booking an appointment for the former, I would expect to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $50-$60 unless it is in a notoriously high-end area (like Manhattan, LA, etc.). When booking an appointment for the latter, my expectations shift to somewhere in the neighborhood of $75-$85. My experience with Square One: In need of a facial, I was pleasantly surprised to find a salon using Aveda products (big fan of those) with same-day availability for a facial. I perused through the website and found a facial advertised as 90-minutes for $85. Definitely on the higher side of what I would typically pay for a 90-minute facial, but not unreasonable. So I went ahead and booked the appointment. I arrived at 1:40 for my 1:45 facial, was greeted right away by a very pleasant young lady at exactly 1:45. She asked me to soak my feet and ask any questions. I told her I didn't have any and was ready to begin. So, at around 1:50, she explained that she would prepare the product necessary for my facial. At around 2:00, she returned to the room and began my facial. The facial itself was great - but incredibly short. At precisely 2:45 she stopped and said that was it. A little surprised that my 90-minute facial actually turned out to be 45-minutes, I mentioned to her that I was supposed to get a 90-minute service. She was very apologetic and explained that she didn't realize it was a 90-minute facial. I said no problem and figured I would explain the misunderstanding to the people up front and they would charge me the 60-minute rate. I wasn't going to fuss too much over the 15-minutes spent doing non-facial stuff. Square One's Response: He (the manager) explained that the website advertised the specific facial I received as 90-minutes because they need time to prep and take down the room. I was very surprised by this reaction because that would obviously make this an unfair and deceptive business practice. I explained that even the girl who did my facial didn't realize it had been advertised that way. Frankly, even if his story were correct, I didn't even receive a 60-minute facial. He seemed very annoyed with my questions and said, "sorry you misunderstood" and that was it. Then he explained that their printed material shows the facial as 60-minutes (which doesn't mean a whole lot to someone who visits the website). I told him I felt taken advantage of, but I would pay the $85 because that was apparently my only choice. I wanted to hold back the tip, but that would have meant punishing the very sweet girl who did my facial because of the very pompous manager who is not good at his job. So I tipped her 20% and am sharing this "buyer beware" story with Yelp. Summary - The manager: What should have been a quick and easy conversation about a misunderstanding was anything but. The store manager was snarky, his stories continuously changed as I challenged various aspects it, and his behavior is a perfect example of what not to do when faced with a misunderstanding such as this. Summary - The business: Honesty is the best policy, folks. And the way you choose to advertise and conduct business is abhorrent. Taking advantage of customers is a short-term approach. You could have locked in a customer for life (my friend who was with me recently moved to the area), but you sacrificed that because you wanted to score an undeserved $20. Silly, guys. I won a donated gift certificate that was going to expire in the next few weeks, so I made an appointment for a spa pedicure with Alison. I am so glad I did, it was amazing. The atmosphere of the salon itself is relaxing and inviting; I was offered water or tea or coffee and taken to a quiet area to wait for Alison. The receptionists were friendly and helpful at check-in and check out. The pedicure was amazing, I would absolutely do it again. There was a foot reflexology massage included and I was amazed at what it can tell a person! I ended up getting a 15 minute chair massage with Angie after my pedicure. I will definitely be going back with a longer appointment next time. All in all, I was thrilled with my experience from top to bottom here. I will be a repeat customer for sure. read more

Have been looking for a salon on the east side - you would think it would be an easy feat to find someplace great in New Albany - no luck so my travels took me downtown, but who has time to travel an hour total and then sit for 3 hours. No longer - Eve is awesome, understood what I was looking for and has early and late hours. My last girl has been talking about extending my balayage, but has been running late my last two appointments and continued to put it off. Eve took care of my color and also provided a great cut. I visited this salon for the first time, as a treat to myself; as an esthetician I spend a lot of time giving others massages and I wanted to get one myself for once. I very unfortunately made a mistake choosing square one. My massage therapist did not use very much pressure and almost tickled me the entire massage. She started out with my face, then spent a short amount of time on my upper back/shoulders. This was pretty decent. Then onto my arms and hands; Barely touched my hands when I specifically said my wrists and hands were a problem area. Next to the fronts of my legs; I almost asked her to stop because she was not pushing hard enough and was using one hand with her thumb and finger to massage my knee and basically pinching/tickling me. She avoided my feet, only touching them for a max of 60 seconds and no, they are not gross by any means. Then she flipped me and did the backs of my legs, that was ok; then finishing with my back. The massage therapist did not focus on my upper back at all and we discussed in my consultation that this was going to be a focus area because I have some tension there. This was one of the worst massages I've ever gotten and I'm mad at myself for paying money for it. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the aesthetic of the salon was pleasing and the employees, including my massage therapist, were quite lovely. I will not be returning. I hope others have a better experience than I did. There are way too many places in Columbus to get a massage to waste your money and time here. read more

Today, I scheduled a 60 minutes massage online and received a phone call a hour before saying that they overbooked my appointment and couldn't get me in until 7:15 for a 30 minute massage. Also, the past couple of times I've gone in to get my eyes brows done there have been chunks in my eyebrow missing and one is always uneven. Unfortunately I've been very unsatisfied with the services there the pass couple of times I've gone and very disappointed that they overbooked my appointment. I will not be returning. read more
