The brisket was good. It wasn't sliced good but it had a good flavor. I also had some ribs but didn't care for them. The seasoning was a sickly sweet mess. But the most amazing homemade pickles and onions!!! They were simply addicting! read more

A place in Southern Colorado has no business having Texas style BBQ this good. We live in Oklahoma and spend a fair amount of time down in Texas enjoying brisket that is rendered well and has that simple seasoning that hits just right. This place operates out of a golf clubhouse and has a big trailer offset in the parking lot. The owner is from Texas, and while it could be easy to just push out mediocre Texas style BBQ somewhere else as a novelty, that's not the case here. They ship in post oak from Texas to get that same smoke flavor and the seasoning was done just perfectly so that you probably don't even want to use sauce. I heard Square Top was very good so thought we'd try it out. The menu is very limited, even items listed on the menu are not available but on one certain day during the week. Heard their ribs were good, yet they weren't available on a Saturday. Then asked for a burger, Thursday's only. Then I asked for the French dip sandwich - they were out. Ended up getting the brisket, which was good. The Mexican corn side dish was a bit boring, not very spicy nor tasty. The turkey and beans were very good. Great golf course but when they said we have a smoker in the parking lot and are doing authentic Texas BBQ...?? Being from Texas, I just had to see! And they passed with flying colors! Brisket smoke ring on amazingly moist meat. Turkey and sausage were like I was down near Lockhart. Then there's the beans and coleslaw. Maybe better than anything in Texas. Great smoked meats, but the sides the sides!!! The views of the golf course made it delightful.

Yeah the food is pretty good and the outside deck is beautiful, but it is really not a restaurant. You have to line up at the bar (where there is usually just one person working) to order your food (and be prepared for the whole credit card machine pressuring you to leave a tip). Sometimes the line can get a bit long, and if you want another beer or something while you are eating well you just get back in line. Oh, and the name should be "sold out" because 80 percent of the items on the menu say that. All this being said it is fine if you know what you are getting yourself into. read more

Not a five star experience. It was just food. I came in for the big ribs, or beef ribs. So did everyone else that came in. There were no ribs at all even at opening time. I had the brisket instead. It was served with three slices of white bread and a few onion on the side. Presentation was paper plates and plastic flatware. read more

For starters this restaurant is at a strange location for barbecue. It's at the golf course as the "19th hole." Usually barbecue restaurants are at a hole in the wall but don't let this fool you, this barbecue is excellent. They start with a prime cut of brisket and cook it slowly. Great moist flavor with a dark bark. If you want a lighter meal their turkey is beautifully smoky, moist and tender. If you have a chance try their beef ribs, a special on Sunday and don't pass it by. These ribs seem as big as a dinosaur bone and are a savory masterpiece. As for the sides their Mexican street corn is seasoned well and a great complement to the barbecue. Their cole slaw with red cabbage and cranberries was tangy and a tad sweet. I sure would like to see mac and cheese as a side dish. We have been to Top Square 4 times and every single time they are out of the peach cobbler. I cannot wait to try the cobbler. Also, the service was very helpful. It would be nice if they had a phone that rings in the restaurant. This seems like a simple fix. read more

New Barb-B-Que restaurant in Pagosa in the Pagosa Golf Course clubhouse. Views on patio are spectacular. Very friendly staff with lots of menu selections explained. Smoked meats were some of the best I have had. Two self serve sauces, one with ketchup base and one with mustard base. Could have used a little more spice. Green Chile Cheese grits not found anywhere else and on par with mine. Beans tasted like Texas Chili. Wanted a sample of pimento cheese pasta salad but did not ask. Did not try dessert. Beers on tap and soft drinks. Fast service. Somewhat difficulty to get to. Closes early. read more

This was by far the BEST BBQ restaurant I've ever eaten at. My family and I were craving BBQ and found this place on a Google search. At first, we were a bit confused because it's actually located inside the golf course clubhouse instead of a stand alone building. There's a huge smoker trailer in the parking lot so you know you're in the right place. Head in to the golf course clubhouse and you order at the bar. If the weather is nice, skip the indoor seating. It's nice and clean, but boring. Instead, opt for patio seating that has a PHENOMENAL view of the golf course and mountains. Don't forget to grab several types of BBQ sauce and picked at the little self serve bar. The food comes out quick too. Depending on the day, they have different specials and the portions are generous. We got pork ribs, brisket, and pulled pork. The meat is smoked several ways and imelts in your mouth and is incredibly seasoned and juicy. For sides, definitely get the street corn (off the cob). The price is about $20 per person on average, but the portions are large. You could definitely share if you wanted. My only regret us they don't have this in my home state. We love Pagosa Springs and we will definitely go back here on our next trip!! Definitely don't miss this spot for lunch/dinner! read more

We had the brisket, French Dip, slaw and jalapeño corn for sides. The meats were top tier and sides were solid. I'd definitely go back to try some other options. Keep in mind, the meat is the real reason to go. It's based in a golf course club house, so don't expect a fine dining atmosphere, but there are tables out on the deck with a great view. This was our second time eating Bar-B-Cue at Square Top and they knocked it out of the ballpark. They serve massive, mouth watering beef ribs on Sunday. The meat was moist, tender, had a nice smoke taste and excellent bark. Also their brisket and all the trimmings were superior over any I have tried in Pagosa/Durango area. Don't leave without trying their side dish of Mexican street corn. It's nice to have barbecue of this caliber in Pagosa. read more
