Ginzburg, and Vilda's, the space and interior oozes a similar vibe to their other restaurants. The entrance is not flashy and the door is frosted. The signage for the restaurant is small and it's hard to know it's there unless you are looking for it. Inside, the dark wooden tables and moody lighting set the stage for a great date night or catch up with friends. The restaurant is small, seating about 25 guests. The menu changes quite often, sometimes daily or every few days where the plates are meant to be shared. The menu is not large either nor does it differentiate between appetizers or mains. The dishes listed last on the menu are often heavier where the ones at the beginning are more appetizer size. Depending on how hungry you are, for 2 people you share between 3-5 dishes (also depending on what dishes you order). They also have a lengthy wine list by the bottle. If you are looking for by the glass wines, the waiters usually can recommend what is currently open based on your wine preferences. I dined at Dreyfus recently with a friend. Reservations are highly recommended as the place is small and can get quite busy during peak dinner time. On the website, it does state that for a party of 2 the seating time is 2 hours. Upon arrival at the restaurant, I was greeted by the host where I was able to check both my coat and bag, freeing up space for me to maneuver getting into the inside seat of the table as the tables were quite close together. Despite the closeness of the tables, I still could easily hear my friend and the noise level was average (unlike their other restaurant, N.L. Ginzburg where it was super noisy to the point I had to yell at my friend when we dined there). My friend was about 5 min late but the server filled my water and waited for my friend to arrive before going over the menu. The menu is written mostly in French so the staff do go through the entire menu with you. The one item that is a constant on the Dreyfus menu is the pommes dauphines. We decided to get 4 dishes to share (+ a dessert at the end). I also asked for a glass of wine where I preferred a dry red - got a grenache/syrah blend from France. Food wise, we ordered the following items: - Pommes dauphines, Yarra Valley ikura ($25) - Thon rouge cru, mignonette pommes-betteraves ($32) - Fluke Meuniere, winter roots ($55) - Duck mixed grill, agrodolce, dandelion ($51) - Crepes for dessert ($15) The pomme dauphines were crispy light potato puffs, paired perfectly with ikura, creme fresh, and dill. The puffs were so light and fluffy, the perfect vehicle for the salty cod roe and creamy creme fresh. A great start to the meal. The thon rouge cru (tuna crudo) was also light and refreshing where the apple/beetroot mignonette on top of the crudo pieces added to the tuna flavour. The fluke was covered with winter root vegetables and was tasty. The fish was flakey and was already deboned. A great light fish dish perfect for the winter weather. Lastly, the duck mixed grill was a great - 2 pieces of duck leg as well as a sausage. The fava beans and sauce of the duck was so delicious, full of duck flavour. The dandelion added a much needed bitterness to the rich dish. Dessert, we got crepes (which included a scoop if vanilla ice cream!). The perfect ending to a great meal. Service wise, the staff were professional, friendly, and attentive. Our waters were always refilled and the staff always gave us new utensils and plates after each dish, as well as wiped our table. When I went to the washroom, my napkin was folded neatly on the table after I came back to the table. They also recommended dishes when we asked. Overall, an intimate place for French fare in Harbord Village. I love how the menu changes frequently so each visit makes it a unique experience where you can try different dishes. The food and service was great and overall we had a good night celebrating the holidays.

The entrance is two sets of doors so no draft when people come in and out! They have a very extensive cocktail and wine menu. There are also plates du jour (an entree and dessert). I ordered the duck confit over crispy rice and orange sauce. My companions ordered the chicken with maitake mushrooms and the burger. We shared the crème brûlée and basque cheesecake. I really enjoyed my dish! The duck was cooked perfectly. Duck was moist and flavorful. The crispy rice gave it a nice texture and helped make it a more filling dish. The orange sauce is a classic pairing with duck. The basque cheesecake has some delicious cherries! But the cheesecake itself was a little more burnt than I personally prefer. The crème brûlée had a very thick caramelized layer on top. But the creme was smooth and sweet. It'd be a great spot for a date night. But those with sensitive ears should proceed with caution. For three people I think it was about $135 CAD maybe $160 CAD after tax and tip.

For me, atmosphere and ambiance are just as important as the food and drinks, so I was more than a little disappointed when we were shown to a small table right by the door. We were so close to the door, in fact, that I found myself making awkward eye contact with everyone that walked in. Far worse, our table was about six inches away from the table next to ours, which made private conversation impossible and essentially killed anything resembling an intimate vibe. Thankfully the food and drinks made up for the lackluster atmosphere. I started with one of their martinis and it was absolutely fantastic. If there's a better martini anywhere in the city, I'd be surprised. The food was just as good. We started with their delicious bread and delectable butter, and followed that up with the above-average French Onion Soup. The Bitter Greens Salad managed the impossible: it made radicchio delicious. And finally, the Steak Frites ended the meal on an absolutely jaw-dropping note. I can't remember when (or even if) I've ever had steak this flavorful and this tender. Absolutely incredible. Aside from the far-from-romantic feel, I very much enjoyed my meal at Milou. Maybe we'll return someday and I'll request a more intimate table.

The prix fixe is available as 2 course or 3 course, with a slightly lower cost for 3 course vegetarian. There is also a fairly extensive cocktail and wine menu. The salad was well dressed, with a great mustard based dressing. The tart was perfectly composed, great balance of pastry, vegetables and cheese. For the entrees, we had the "Magret de Canard" and "Coq au Vin". Both were excellent - perfectly cooked, and great accompaniments; but the red wine sauce with the chicken was the standout. For dessert we shared the "Clafoutis aux Poires", pears baked in thin layers of pastry with vanilla ice cream. It was freshly baked, and not too sweet - so a great end to the dinner. The overall service was great - well timed, not over bearing and friendly. This is a great place for the the special occasion or treat;

The atmosphere is quite warm and casual, and is ideal for date nights and special occasions. They offer a Prix Fixe menu and can choose between 2-course and 3-course meal. Service is amazing and our server is very kind to answer our MANY questions about the menu. He also gave us a few recommendations, which was greatly appreciated. Food is excellent! For appetizers, the mussels were HUGE and very fresh. For entrees, duck breast was our favorite - meat was very tender, perfectly cooked, and went well with the carrot puree. In addition, the sauce is very flavorful which really elevates the dish! Overall rating for our experience was a solid 4.5-star, and I ended up giving them a 4 (on the Yelp scale) probably related to the desserts. The desserts were awesome, but it lacks the "wow" factor I found from their appetizers and entrees. I'd definitely visit again, and I look forward to changing to a 5-star rating next time!

Perfectly lighted, which seems odd to say but yeah, it makes a difference. Service: Impeccable. Professional, friendly, helpful but also unobtrusive. Food: TL;DR: "ooh la la" We started with the torched hamachi crudo, which was a symphony of flavour on the palate. The fish was perfectly prepared and struck with just the right texture and char. The candied ginger hits with some zesty accompaniment. In another instant, you're transported to Southeast Asia with a soothing coconutty, tamarind (?) dressing and finally, your head turns (in a good way) when the jalapeño hits. Every bite was a trip. We were in a foodie trance when the next courses arrived. The triple fried French fries were as good as they sounded. There's no picture because my mouth was faster than my camera. The lobster & shrimp fritters were perfectly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and packed with crustacean flavour. The sauce was another hit of tang and zest. I think the gastronomical term for how we ate them is "wolfing." The Brussels sprouts were smaller and more flavourful than you commonly find on menus featuring this on-trend appetizer. They were perfectly caramelized and seasoned. The peanuts offered a nice crunchy contrast. We finished with the lemon meringue pie which was a visual and sweet feast in and of itself. I favoured the crust and the meringue topping to the ultra sweet and tart filling but all three shone together in concert. The meringue especially was a gooey, marshmallowy party that spilled over the rest of the dessert. I finished with an Amaro Meletti, which was a nice caramel-cola flavoured digestif and would make a fantastic sorbet (hint to the chefs for a summer treat). Allez chez Aloette, gentile Aloette
