Maison Selby is a high end French restaurant on Church Street. At the time I visited they had a three course meal special. I got the French onion soup, the vegetarian dish and the creme brulee. Every bite was absolutely delectable, the service was fantastic and overall just a fabulous experience. Thank you the chef and staff at Maison Selby.

Maison Selby was such a pleasant surprise. Tucked inside the historic C.H. Gooderham House, this French-inspired bistro feels like stepping into another era. The space is absolutely stunning, with beautifully restored heritage details, elegant décor, and multiple levels that give it a real sense of character. It's one of those places where the atmosphere alone makes the visit feel special. We went for brunch, and everything from the moment we walked in felt smooth. Service was fast, friendly, and attentive without being overbearing. I ordered a latte and the Mushroom Toast, which came with two poached eggs, wild and tame mushrooms, lemon thyme crème fraîche, sourdough, and hollandaise. It was excellent. Rich, flavourful, and perfectly balanced. Definitely something I'd order again without hesitation. My date had the Chocolate Pain Perdu with strawberry, rhubarb, vanilla crème anglaise, and pistachio crumble. I didn't get a bite, unfortunately, but it looked incredible. Definitely leaning more toward the dessert side of brunch. What really stood out here is that Maison Selby feels like a full experience, not just a meal. Between the historic setting, the quality of the food, and the polished service, it all comes together really well. I was especially happy to see French onion soup on the menu, and we're already planning to come back for dinner to try that and explore more of what they offer. Honestly, I hadn't heard much about this place before going, which made it even more of a surprise. Great food, beautiful space, and a spot I'd absolutely recommend.

The space felt warm and charming. Staff was attentive and friendly. * Beef tartare (off-menu): bold with layers of flavour. The pickled herring added just the right hit. * Duck liver parfait (off-menu): very creamy, buttery, and smooth. It had me saying, "Yup, we're definitely coming back." * Sweet green pea tartine: fresh but a bit too carb-heavy for me after the tartare and parfait. And the poached egg was slightly overcooked. * Fennel salad: very light. The lemon vinaigrette and the anchovy added a nice kick and umami. * Artichoke barigoule: rich, salty, creamy and tangy in all the right ways. * Strip loin steak: cooked just right to medium rare. The French onion baked potato was yum!! * Dessert was a little simple and not that special, imo. Even with a couple of dishes that didn't totally wow, the overall experience exceeded expectations so we'll definitely be back.

Only a few days left until Summerlicious ends on Friday this week. For my last @liciousto outing, I visited Maison Selby for lunch, a charming French-inspired bistro located in the 136-year-old C.H. Gooderham House. Largely inspired by the bistro & café genre, Maison Selby, by the group @oliverbonacini, celebrates timeless French cooking with a modern accent, & offers an impressive list of hand-crafted cocktails. They also have a nice patio but it was way too hot to sit outdoors. I started out with the generous sweet green peas tartine with crème fraîche on a grilled sourdough & herb salad. And of course at a French restaurant, had to get a French Onion soup Afterwards for our mains, ordered their steak hatche that came with a salad verte & well fried pommes frites. The Atlantic salmon was moist and flakey and their truffle mushroom risotto was appetizing. Finished off with their Dark Chocolate mousse & Torche Meringue Tart for desserts. Overall, a definitely a must revisit for me. My friends visited multiple times for dinner but this was their first time for lunch. It was a very enjoyable Sunday afternoon @maisonselby. Follow me #camerafirst to see where I go eat next.

Maison Selby is a great place to celebrate something special with friends and loved ones. If you plan to dine on a weekend dinner, be sure to plan ahead to make reservations as the restaurant does get busy. There is a room with the bar, and smaller tables, as well as two comfy dining rooms for a more intimate experience. Our server helped us feel welcome, and was also easy to chat with, especially when we had questions. Maison Selby has a good choice of appetizers and main entrees to choose from. We opted to try the tasting menu as they were known for it, and the tasting menu changes every week - something different to try everytime. It was a 6 course dinner, including a small dessert, and I was quite full. We were celebrating a late Valentines, and they were nice enough to give us a small Valentines treat on top. Overall, every dish on the tasting menu was flavourful, and had just the right amount of taste. Thank you for making our night memorable. IG: Ayeween

Came here for summerlicious. Food is good. Friendly staff. Old historic building. Love the interior decor. Minutes from Sherbourne Stn.

I've been waiting to try this place for a while and finally had the chance! First off, this is located in a old, but charming mansion/house that once was used as an all girls school (fun history fact! Hence the name Maison). I loved the charming place and it wasn't too busy on a weekday night. I ordered a couple of apps - the beef tartare and the escargot. The waiter also persuaded us to get the bread to dip the juices off the escargot, and I was sold. I loved all the dishes and can say that I was getting full just with the apps alone (thanks to the fluffy bread). For mains, we ordered the beef bourguignon and the truffle pasta. The beef was soo tender and the pasta came with visible shavings of truffle. The waiter was so friendly and funny, and really topped off the experience. All I can say is it's a lovely place to have an incredible evening and enjoy good food.

Had really good experience there. Excellent service and tasty food! Highly recommended the foie gras:)

Well, if you are vegan this place isn't for you. But if you love cocktails and up for unique cocktails for brunch , you would love it. I had the best ever Gin based cocktail "Bon Voyage " for a Sunday brunch. The gin is custom made by Dillon's for Maison Selby. And it was one of the reason I wanted to try the place. I had peach waffle, it was exceptionally good but went easy on toppings, it felt a little dry or plain towards the end as the toppings weren't enough. Fries were amazing too. Salmon Benedict was okay but the quantity in general for the food was quite less. I mean if you are paying 70 bucks ( tip excluded) for 2 mains and a side , it should fill you up. Service was fine but the drink was the USP of the visit.

This place is the perfect spot to host a gathering, the interior decor is so unique and fun. There are many different rooms that can be rented out with different menu combos. We started with a lovely looking meat platter to share which was delicious. The beef brisket burger was good but pretty standard. However, you can't go wrong with the crème brûlée. It was very busy when we were there so service was a bit lacking but everyone was friendly. The only downside was their time limit, we felt rushed as we were finishing our dessert.

This vibey french resto located in an old toronto home is definitely giving luxury and grace. however, i found the food rather underwhelming and flavourless. my favourite thing of the night might have just been the shoestring fries that came with the french onion burger. they were extremely crispy and well salted!

The concept of a French bistro in the heart of Toronto housed in a 136 year old mansion is at once romantic and intriguing. The dining rooms are housed in the original rooms of the mansion and the innards are left largely unaltered. Old wallpaper, wood floors and vaulted ceilings add to the charm of the dining spaces. If one has to divide one's review into bite size parts, the locale and the ambience will definitely get a 5* rating. Coming to the food, which is what one goes to a place like this for, I would give it a 3.5 star. I got the lamb saddle with the potato Pave, or Duo D'Agneau in French. It was well presented but the portion size was smaller than what you would expect, even for an expensive eatery. The potato pave was good and the lamb was juicy and well done. The brioche buns that came for the table was absolutely great. The ratatouille was pretty ordinary and was a let down. The tagliatelle was very good. So overall a mixed bag. The service was ordinary in the beginning with the server being curt and not having the politeness and finesse required for an establishment like this. But later on she became more attentive and helpful. The sugar cookies that came with a lit candle was on the house to honour the birthday and was well presented too. The alcohol was good but not exceptional. The Pinot Noir that I had was ok and the sangria was great.

I ordered a frozen Aperol Spritz which was excellent and I could drink a few of these. For food we ordered a burger and fries which was good but nothing to write home about. The place SEEMED quiet but shortly thereafter the place got JAMMED! Initially it was slow service but it picked up shortly. We had several different servers so no single server is tagged here. I will say that it's a hip, nicely equipped restaurant. We decided to do an appie meal. We ordered Sichuan Chicken lettuce wraps ($25.50)..this was the best of the appies. The next was the Crab Dip ($20.75), it was hot but not overly tasty. 3rd was the Hot Chicken Bites with pickles ($16.00). They were ok but not hot in temp enough. The final was the Chili Citrus Calamari ($21.25). This was the worse of the dishes. Simply put, it was cold. The server removed this from our bill. In summary...I wouldn't go out of my way again to go here but given all things being equal, the servers were very good. As a final note...the bathroom was very clean & well maintained.

The food was incredible- one our tastebuds won't forget! Our group of 5 started with fresh sushi and sashimi, table side Caesar salad and the softest brioche served with sun-dried tomato butter that was perfect in every way. Main course: Australian wagyu ribeye that we didn't even have to chew plus a strip loin and beef Wellington (which was maybe the only thing I don't need to order again, but still delicious). All the sides were amazing and finally sticky toffee pudding and butter cake to put us in a complete food coma. Wouldn't change a thing about this meal. I found myself wanting to try most of the cocktails, which is a rarity. We got the Strawberry Tetsu to start (inspired by Uncle Tetsu's Japanese cheesecake), along with the Cloudy Oolong (tea-based cocktail with a salted caramel cheese foam). The Strawberry Tetsu tasted like a dessert and was delicious, with a graham cracker crumble rim. The Cloudy Oolong had a strong tea taste which I loved, as sometimes the tea can get lost in a cocktail. The foam on top was addicting and paired nicely with it, similar to a bubble tea. Next, I had the Burnt Yuzu which was light and refreshing from the citrus. The bar is hidden behind Misfit Ice Cream, with a speakeasy vibe to the interior. We walked up to an unassuming entrance that is part of the experience, and once inside, the atmosphere shifts completely. The transition from the street to the interior feels deliberate, and the low-key energy of the room encourages lingering. The cocktail menu leans heavily into Asian-inspired flavors, and that is what makes it stand out. Every drink feels thoughtfully developed rather than relying on presentation alone. We tried the Cloudy Oolong, which was especially memorable with its rich tea flavor and creamy cheese foam that added a savory depth to the cocktail. The Strawberry Tetsu offered a dessert-like profile without becoming overly sweet, balancing fruit and tea notes in a way that felt refined and well composed. Each cocktail arrived beautifully presented and balanced, making it easy to appreciate the amount of care that goes into every glass. The menu is creative without being gimmicky, and the flavors are well integrated, with each drink offering something distinct. Located on the 31st floor of the St. Regis Hotel, the restaurant has an incredible atmosphere. The dining room is absolutely stunning with a classy and luxurious feel, but it still feels comfortable and inviting rather than too formal. We started the evening with cocktails before moving into the Summerlicious menu. I ordered the "I Only Drink When I Smoke," which was a great way to start the night. It had a subtle smoky flavour with a touch of sweetness, and the alcohol was not overpowering at all. It was smooth, easy to sip on, and the perfect drink to enjoy while having conversations. For my Summerlicious menu, I started with the Tartare de Boeuf and Caviar. The filet mignon tartare was fresh and really smooth, with a nice balance of rich and savoury flavours. The toasted bread also gave it a nice crunch and paired really well with the tartare. For the main course, I had the Roasted Chateaubriand Filet. When the plate was served, the meat looked really rare as I saw nothing but red on the meat, but it was incredibly tender, making it easy to cut through. It was full of flavour, and the sauce complemented the steak without being too heavy or salty. The vegetables added a nice balance to the dish, and the creamy mashed potatoes were smooth, and definitely one of my favourite parts of the meal. To finish, I had the Mango Passionfruit Cheesecake. It was creamy without feeling too heavy. Though the fruity flavours from the mango passionfruit were a bit tart and sweet for my palate, it still gave an overall refreshing touch. The crust added a nice texture, and it was the perfect ending to the meal. Beyond the food, what really stood out was the service and pacing of the evening. Each course arrived at the right time, allowing us to enjoy every dish without feeling rushed. The price point is definitely on the higher end, so it is not somewhere I would personally visit for a casual dinner on a regular basis. However, for a special occasion, celebration, or a night where you want to enjoy a beautiful dining experience, I think Louix Louis would be a great choice... and for $75/ person for Summerlicious/ Winterlicious, definitely a great value to sample the chefs' artistry. Overall, it was a memorable evening with an elegant atmosphere, thoughtfully prepared dishes, and great service. I can definitely understand why this spot has become such a popular destination, and I would love to come back again for Winterlicious!

Perched high above the bustle of downtown Toronto, LOUIX LOUIS makes a compelling first impression…read more The dining room is genuinely handsome -- a study in polished Art Deco glamour softened by sweeping city views that lend every table a sense of occasion. On a Valentine's Day brunch visit, the atmosphere alone was enough to justify the reservation. The kitchen demonstrates genuine competence: dishes arrive with care, the pacing is unhurried, and the mise en scène -- from tableside presentation to that now-famous thirteen-layer chocolate cake -- reveals an establishment that understands the theatre of fine dining. That towering slice of chocolate cake, in particular, is a masterstroke of marketing and pastry craft in equal measure; it draws the eye, earns its reputation, and very nearly steals the show. Where LOUIX LOUIS gives one pause is in the cuisine's ability to fully match its surroundings. The cooking is accomplished and reliably pleasant, yet seldom rises to the level of genuine distinction one might hope for at this price point. Dishes satisfy without surprising; technique is evident but inspiration, at moments, feels held in reserve. For the corporate traveller or the visitor seeking a polished, geographically convenient showcase of the city's skyline, this represents an entirely sound choice. For those seeking an experience whose flavours linger as long as the view, the kitchen has room yet to grow into its magnificent stage. Service is attentive and well-intentioned, though it can occasionally want for the depth of knowledge that elevates a good meal into a memorable one. LOUIX LOUIS is, in sum, a very good restaurant striving -- not quite yet arriving -- at greatness. The bones are exceptional; one hopes the culinary vision will, in time, catch up with them.
