I've had a love hate relationship with my hair since I was a child. Growing up in the 80's in Alaska doesn't lend itself to quality hair joints. Plus, I have indian hair, which is basically straight when long, and sticks up when short. I was regulated to bowl cuts with a part down the middle or a spike. Shocking that I didn't pick up a girlfriend until I buzzed my head before I went away to college. I haven't always been this ruggedly handsome folks! Its hard work! One of the most important things I set out to find when I first moved here 3 years ago was a barber. Its one thing you should have settled in life. That a great dive bar, which I'm still searching for...you've been put on notice Seattle! This is my barber shop, and its fantastic. I mostly book with Erik, but I also go to Dan from time to time. Both are great, and real pros. There's five chairs, and you have to call in, or book online. I'd suggest booking at least two weeks out. They're always full, and I've seen numerous people walk in, and turned away. Which reminds me that I need to book NOW. Prices are $32-35, plus tip. You gotta take care of the people who take care of you. They also do beards, and shaves. Being an Indian, I don't take that route...have you ever seen on Indian with a beard? Well, one that wasn't scraggly that is. Its nice finally having a haircut I like, and can work with. Its only taken me 37 years to find it too. I guess better late than never, huh? I have been going to Erick for the last year and couldn't be happier with his talents. I'm not an easy customer with respect that I don't tell Erick what I want. I basically tell him to use his experience to make me look as good as possible (I need all the help I can get!) and he delivers every time. Also giving me some tips of beard trimming/skin care to help with some ingrown neck hair issues I had....since those tips I haven't had a single ingrown hair! My only 'issue' is you have to book sometimes a couple weeks in advance to get an appointment. Needed a place downtown (near work) to get a haircut. I've been to many barbers through the years trying to find one that can give me a cut that is classic but also has style unique to my hair. Booked an appointment online (honestly one of the key things I look for when booking anything) with Myles and I've honestly never had a better haircut in my life. I've been to Squire for a few times and the people are friendly and skillful. There are two things bothering me however. One is I'm slightly concerned with the hygiene of tools. I got lots of rash after being treated with razor. It has been confirmed that barbershop can transmit AIDS. So I'm not so happy about such rashes. (I also didn't get asked whether I wanted to use razor. If so I'd said no. I definitely need to bring my own razor if I ever come here again.) The other thing that annoys me is maybe I got used to the Japanese/Korean style of salon where hair washing is included. Contrary to most of the people that get their hair cut here, I tend to keep mine somewhat shaggy. My wife likes it this way, and anytime I've gotten my hair cut anywhere else, they cut it too short and boxy and she doesn't like it till it grows out again. I chose Squire Barber Shop based on its reviews on Yelp and I regret it. In one sentence they are not good at all with long heirs. Like any other barber in passed 4 years I asked them to just trim my heir with minimum length cut that possible (1-2 inch max). First of all he did not even know how he should brush the long heir. I think I lost a lot of heir in that procedure. Then he start to cut and when he finished at least 4 inches of my heir was gone. The worst part is when I came home and washed my heir I found out that he even not trim them right and straight. Simply I spend 1 hour, $23, 4 inch of my heir and ended up in worse situation before my heir trimming. I will never try them again, they maybe good with couple usual haircut but definitely do not know anything about long hair. read more

Honestly, I never write reviews... but in this case. I feel obliged to give credit where credit is absolutely due. *Got on the wait list, first time ever getting a haircut here* MY MAN ERICK! Me putting my full trust into Erick for the first time, he did not disappoint. Normally, I don't expect too much being a first time customer because most of the time it takes the barbers I've had a try or 2 to really understand what I want. BUT NOT THIS TIME. First of all, can I say that he pays amazing attention to detail. I asked for a low skin fade. Probably seeming like a common request, but for him. He took his time to ask me how I wear my hair and how/if I part my hair. He made sure to fully analyze my hair before cutting away. This honestly put my mind at ease as I knew he was truly putting his full attention into my haircut. I've never had a barber not only fulfill my requested haircut but also completely obliterate my expectations. Also, looking at his Instagram, you can tell that he is truly confident and passionate about his craft to be able to show it to the world! 1000% recommend scheduling a haircut with Erick if you want the best of the best. I came to David Squire on a recommendation from a former g/f of mine. She mentioned how she liked her personal trainer's haircuts and "suggested" I give it a try. Dave's a really cool guy and gives great haircuts. It's definitely a man's man kinda barbershop. No foils, no coloring.. none of that foo-foo stuff. Haircuts are $19.00. Be sure to call ahead get a reservation. With so many convenient places to eat near by, the wait isn't that bad. Parking can be a sonofabitch, so I usually park in the Pike Place Parking lot for $4.00 for a couple hours. read more

If you need a gentlemen's haircut then this place is where you need to get it from. It's a 3 person barbershop in a cozy place near the market. Booking in advanced is highly recommended. Erick does an amazing job with everyone's hair cut. Whenever I am unsure of what to do with my hair, his recommendations are always stellar. He recently tapered my hair, which was a first for me, and by his recommendation. I was blown away at Erick's level of detail in my hair cut and couldn't be happier with it. I have never been so impressed with the personality and quality of a barbershop. Barbershops are a lot like churches; the wrong people can take something potentially good and make it a complete nightmare. God bless the squires. I was skeptical at first, but when I walked in and witnessed the three tattooed and heavily bearded Caucasian barbers I had no faith. I sarcasticly asked "Iron Maiden" if he could cut ethnic hair, he confidently replied with a "yes" and a smile. I sat down thinking within 20 minutes my afro will be even more lopsided and I will end up looking like Morgan Freeman. Boy was I wrong, you truly cannot judge a book by its cover, or a white man by his tattoos. I'm excited for my hair to grow back out so I can go back in to learn more about why Avenged Sevenfold is like a bad Guns and Roses. Hell ya. read more

I went to see David Squire on a tip from these very Yelp! pages and he was good. The shop was clean and old-school. The price lists are right on the wall, so no jerking around there. There is a photo on the wall of 30 different ways to get what essentially is a clipper fade. The poster looks like a menu at a Thai restaurant, where you can't pronounce anything on the menu, but you can point at what you want. I called at 10AM on a Thursday and got a 1:15PM appointment time, so bear that in mind. David is a one man band, so if he is busy/booked up, what can you do? read more

Just went for my first haircut after seeing such good reviews on Yelp. First class experience. And so far I am happy with the results. He puts in a great amount of attention to his work. I love the vacuum he uses to clean up the loose hair (so I don't need to rinse after). I went at 4:30 on a Nov Wed evening, so it wasn't busy but I see it can be. I also went to David based on the other yelp reviews and was pleased. David spent more time going after a stray hair here or there, than any barber I've ever been to. He's clearly very concerned about getting it right. He also has the right demeanor for this work: able to chat effortlessly without dominating the conversation. We could have had the same conversation over a beer after work and I would have enjoyed it. Some people might think $19 is a little steep for a barber, for example the going rate down in Olympia (where I used to work) is $12. But the experience at Pike Place Barber is not comparable to your typical barber shop. David takes his time and uses scissors when necessary, instead of the chainsaw wood carving method employed by so many clipper-wielding barbers. I enjoyed how clean and modern David's shop was, and he still charges less than half what a haircut at Gene Juarez men's salon will run you. read more

I had the worst irritation and redness after the shave I had got,I'm almost sure that the blade used was dull and wondering if they had ever shaved anybody in the past ruined my weekend getaway.... Come here on a weekly basis and always leave satisfied. They very recently moved to their new location just around the corner and its a great improvement. Not saying the old shop needed improving, just saying they're turning a great thing into something even better. Still has the same comfortable atmosphere just in a larger and a more contemporary space. They had a 5 star average rating on their old profile but for some very odd reason yelp reset it when they moved......strange. I had previously reviewed them but due to this, I felt it necessary to add another. Until the reviews start racking up again, rest assured knowing you'll get quality service by an already highly reviewed shop. As before, it's best to make an appointment as walk-in opportunities are, to be honest, rarely available....their schedules fill fast. This fact alone should tell you something about Squires. I'm a regular with David but have seen great work done by Bryan and Erick and wouldn't hesitate recommending them. I've seen a little of Myles work which looked great too, he just wasn't usually working during the timeframe I go in. David explained that he carefully picks the barbers working at the shop to ensure quality remains high. If you see someone working there, it's safe to say they're not just some schlep who owns a pair of scissors claiming to be a barber, they're the real deal. read more

If you ever call them, they will probably pick it up. Why? because they stop cutting others' hair to pick up. Haha. I think that was funny to see from the other side. My guy stopped like 2-3 times in 30 minutes. It's not a big deal and I got a private note from the owner that they are implementing an automated system. I think for $27 is worth the price (I would be hesitant if they increased to 30). I had haircuts for less in other cities, but they were cheap 5-minute buzz cut that they were always in a hurry and sort of careless (they also offer buzz cut for $13). The barber that did the job on my hair was good and he took like 30/40 minutes for a thorough cut. He wasn't rushing at all (that's how haircuts were supposed to be). It wasn't perfect, but it was pretty decent. Anyway, these guys are new in town, but they like the old school stuff (like 50's ads on the walls and Alice in Chains songs playing all day). I heard them joking about other customers that complained about the prices. I think that was kind of mean. I'm sure they think they are worth it, but that doesn't justify. Only the location changed, not the staff. I've been coming here for at least a couple of years now and I'm so happy to have discovered it! First thing I love: they take appointments! It's shocking how many places don't take appointments unless you're paying like $60+ for a men's haircut. Secondly though, it's just always a great experience. I've never had a bad haircut there. My usual guy is Erick and he always does a perfect job, but I've also had haircuts from David (owner) and Andrew (he's pretty new) and they've been great as well. I've probably had one slightly below average haircut there ever, otherwise it's always been top notch. My fiance also approves of the cuts I get there, as well. Whoever you get, you're sure to be pleased. I love that it's not a frilly over-the-top place - the decor is very modern barbershop-y and the guys are no-nonsense. They added a TV with sports, too (muted so as to not be a nuisance) and some nice couches - they new space is quite impressive. And their price can't be beat for the quality of cut! read more

I stumbled upon David Squire at the Pike Place Barber right before playing the Showbox a few months back. I needed to chop the mane down a bit, and lo and behold right upstairs from the CanCan is a barber shop. Dave's a cool guy, great to talk to whilst having the hairs snipped. His shop has some pretty cool stuff in it as well, like some old vintage hair tonic bottles. And I'm happy with how I look. I feel so much better than going to Supercuts, and it's only about $4 more. ($17 at time of writing for a cut. Is that 'Moderate'? I have no idea). Having to wait your turn isn't bad either. When I got there today, there was a fellow in the chair and a fellow waiting. He said it would be a half hour or so. That's a half hour I get to walk around the Pike Place Market and check out some of the odd goods and odder people. Or I could have hung out and read a magazine -- he doesn't just have People and Life mag. No, he's got all kinds of reading materials. Maxim's holiday gift guide caught my eye today. Best thing -- when he was done with the cut, he used a vacuum he had installed to clear away the itchy little hairs left over. That was the only part that 'sucked'. OH! One thing to note: he only accepts cash, but there is a WaMu cash machine right outside near the throwing fish guys. read more

Couldn't be happier. I've been looking for a barber for a while now and was referred here by my brother who had just got a cut from Burt. He said to call and make sure to get an appointment, so I did and made my appointment with Burt. I have never in my life had someone take more care and give a more precise haircut than he did. Perfect. I've learned to not be picky by overpaying at salon's and getting only a shadow of what I want. I moved here recently and I told Myles what I was looking for today and it was 100% exactly what I had in mind. They could charge much more for this. It's the first time I've been happy with a cut since I've been an adult and it's much cheaper. I love the quiet masculine vibe of the place without being over the top like a lot of modern barbershops. I found this place on Yelp because of their high ratings and great customer feedback. I'm a guy and needed a quick guy's haircut, but I also needed it to look like it was done by someone with skill because I was walking in with a giant mop of curly madness. When I sat down in the small yet cozy entrance, I knew right away that this was going to be an experience. The two barbers were joking around, in an inviting way, and the people getting their haircuts were playing along. My only concern was still, will my haircut be good? Soon it was my turn and since I was wearing glasses, those were placed on the counter, meaning that my next 20+ minutes was going to be blind. At the end of the cut he asked what I thought, so I grabbed my glasses and glanced at the mirror to see...he'd done EXACTLY what I'd hoped and imagined. For $25 there's no better haircut in town and the barbers make you feel like you're hanging with the boys at your favorite local hangout. I'll definitely be back in a couple months for my next cut. read more

I can't say enough about how rad this shop is. My son and I visited for a father's day cut and we're both thrilled. The shop is spotless, has a nice comfortable waiting area (big couches, plasma tv...) and the staff are great. I have really hard to cut hair (super fine and pin straight, with unpredictable cowlicks) but Andrew handled it with (what seemed like) ease. I got a nice tidy little part style with a tight fade and it looks perfect. My son had some crazy idea for himself (involving steps or some other nonsense) but as soon as he saw my hair finished, his tune changed and he asked for the same cut I got. Also had my eyebrows groomed and a hot shave on my neck line. I'd say "you can't beat them for the price" but I think it's more accurate to say this is hands down the best barber shop in Seattle. read more
