Stopped in with a friend from the neighborhood and the bartenders treated me like they knew me for years. Had PBR because it seemed like the right thing to do. It was fresh and cold, so not a bad choice. There were so many cool things around the bar to look at, including the creepy clown doll behind the bar with his hands in his pockets. And I was tricked into trying Malort. People were telling me how "delicious" it was, except for the one lady that made a gag reflex. I should have listened to her. It took 45 minutes to get that taste out of my mouth and no amount of PBR helped. An all around good time. read more

I would prefer to go to the "Cage" over some cookie cutter bar propped in the suburbs. The atmosphere is friendly, Steve and Amy are fantastic and the prices are cheap. Who cares about the decor? There are flat screen tvs, bar stools and tables. The service is like no other in the area! I'm tired of going to places where poor service is acceptable. There are a lot of regulars there, which speaks highly of the business they have established. This place continues to be one of our favorite places when going out for a drink! read more

The Squirrel cage is a local dive bar. It's clean and everyone is friendly. The son who works nights is totally attentive and awesome bartender. They have cheap frozen pizza's that actually taste good. The drinks are strong and totally reasonably priced. You have to love a great local bar! You can't go wrong at this place. read more

Awful! Awful! Awful!...So bad it is great. This is the diviest bars of Divy bars that Chicagoland has to offer. If it is a gray, cold, rainy Saturday, I couldn't imagine a better way to spend your time off drinking a cold frothy one! Squirrel Cage is a "Must Go" bar on the divey bar tour. Probably not somewhere you take a date but if your wife is as great as mine, you spend a few pints belly'd up to this bar just for the sake of saying you watched some afternoon golf or NASCAR at this gem of a lo-cal. Ha! Reading reviews of this place reminds me of the time, a couple of years ago when The Buddha and i went in this place. It IS a creaky place, but comfortable with the old married couples leaning on their elbows at the bar getting quietly soused. Anyway, I was in good spirits and was talking a little loud, being (I thought) funny. I was so funny, that I'd periodically slap the edge of the bar when i hit a punch line. I didn't realize it, but I guess the bar is a little rickety, and when I'd hit it, the vibration carried down the length, up the elbows and into the jawbones of the genteel patrons. The bartender asked me, sort of nicely, not to hit the bar. Honestly, I thought he was joking. So i told another joke, hit the bar again...and was told in no uncertain terms, with a steely glare, that I shouldn't do it again. Why?, i asked. He explained about the vibration. I spoke to the older couple down at the end of the bar (there weren't many patrons)...and they confirmed that it bothered them. Well, hell....then this should drive you nuts....and i played a drum roll with my hands! The Buddha and I were told to pay up and leave and never come back. Which we did. String cheese, pizza's cooked under the bar counter, PBR and it's in Illinois! The cage is stepping back to a 1960ish bar I remember from road trips with my dad someplace in Wisconsin. Local feel and flavor it's a neighborhood dive in the nicest of term. Good stiff drinks , friendly locals, puts one at rest with a feeling of home. Eat before hitting the cage is it's chips, under bar pizza, string cheese etc. Would go here any time. read more

I'm not a drinker, so I don't get out to dive bars much, but this is a dive bar. Run by the owners, Steve and Amy, who were very pleasant, this place was populated with locals, at least as far as I could tell. I went with my wife, who found the drinks inexpensive and well-prepared. The TouchTunes Internet jukebox was a hit for me. Three TV screens and there is an ATM. A really cool Dupage Conty dive gem. Much better than the cookie cutter bar experiences in overly large stand alone buildings or lame strip malls devoted more to parking space than actual businesses. Great old bar in an area where you don't see these goodies any more. PBR is the beer to indulge in, but they have many more bottled brews too. Stopped in while visiting the area with a group of friends. Friendly and helpful bartenders as well. By the way, thanks for the tip to dine at Rayme's Steak & Fish House, it was delish! Plenty of parking, family owned and run, a very old and minimally maintained building with no business sign posted - just a beer sign. The beer was good and cold and and the place seemed to have a solid group of regulars playing games. The prices for drinks are not posted - I paid $5 for an import beer and watched as a regular paid $2 for the same bottle. I asked why the price difference and was flatly told he was a "regular". I finished my beer went down the road and had the same beer for $3.50 in a cleaner, well-lit establishment. read more

This is my FAVORITE local tavern to visit anytime I am back in Lisle. Over the years I have come to know the owners very well and they are the nicest people.
