Just catching up on old Yelp places I meant to review Stulgin's Tavern Well I love alcohol so I love me a tavern This little place helped me call my Uber when I had a little too much to drink (I weigh 92.2 lbs) they did not overserve I am just a very little lady They kept my cat keys for me and returned them to my husband I cannot drink on an empty stomach and I am a vegan They have a yummy Marble Rye and vegetables Inhad a vegan sandwich 5-stars no which way about it The bartender made sure nobody was inappropriate with me! :))) thank you Stulgin's read more

I've reviewed Stulgin's before- just wanted to provide an update - it's still an EXCELLENT weekday lunch spot! My husband and I love going here. On Fridays they have a fish special (fish or shrimp). The potato salad is still homemade as is the soup of the day. The BLT has so much bacon. I've never had anything I didn't like here. NOTE: Food is only served on weekdays, during lunch. read more

Went for lunch with friends. No dinner served. Great food and prices. Friendly staff. Gaming available

You need to try the chili. (When it's in season). Best chili I've ever had. Service is great. Only a lunch place during the week but they do it well. It's like eating at home. read more

My wife and I stopped in this place to try their fish fry, because many people said it good. But it was dinner time and they said that they only serve food at lunch time. Other than that it seems like a local dive bar read more

We went on a random Monday for lunch and it was good, as expected for a bar. Service was very attentive. Food came out fast. We will be back. read more

After walking through, three, non handicap doors, I was greeted by a lurching scowling easy on the eyes red head and Dave. He told me that he could not serve any "wives beers". Thankfully, all I wanted was a Miller Lite. I felt like I was drinking my ice-cold, less filling beer on Lake Michigan, surrounded by taxidermied fish and a bull ballsack. This Northwoods style bar is a great local hangout that serves THE BEST fish fry around town. You may feel like you were transported back to the 70s while enjoying your meal or beer, but as they say "this is the bar where you go enough times they know your name." In all honesty, I prefer this bar to be not so crowded so don't come. read more

This place is great . They have the most amazing lunches at this place . There soups and chili are all homemade and delicious . Huge portions reasonably priced , and the waitresses are attentive and polite . During lent the have a fish fry that is super delicious, this place is truly one of villa parks best kept secrets . read more

This is my neighborhood beer and a shot joint. They serve food during the day and have a fish fry on Friday's during lent. Yes...it could be your parents basement in the 70's. It's great read more

This Northwoods-style bar is relatively small, but serves some very good fish on Fridays during Lent. All you can eat haddock for $11, including a big serving of pasta, potato salad, or fries on the side. The newer video gaming section is an annoying eyesore, but look beyond those wasting their $$ at the machines and this place is worth a stop if you need a Friday fish fry. read more

Best all you can eat Friday fish fry during lent anywhere around. I love this place! Potato salad is a must have. Boom!

I have been to this place twice; the first time we got our fish fry on which was pretty delicious. It's a thin seasoned batter but it stays on the fish, never seen anything like it. The second time I had a nice little greasy burger and some fries, equally delish. The atmosphere is that of an old tavern. The decor is dark but cozy. It goes deep but it's not that big. The service is great but I can only say that for the lunch hour. Not sure about dinner time. THIS is the bar, where if you go in enough times, they WILL know your name. read more

One of the better Friday fish frys (or do you say "fish fries"? that doesn't look right) in the area can be found at this little bar along the Prairie Path in Villa Park. During Lent they'll do a fry for both the lunch and dinner crowds, but the rest of the year it's strictly lunch Mondays through Fridays (the rest of their food is pretty good too...typical pub grub). Come by at noon on a Friday and you'll have a hard time finding a table. At night you can get a frozen pizza from their kitchen, but unless you're totally snowblind drunk you're better off hitting a drive thru on the way home. The decor at Stulgin's screams Wisconsin Northwoods. Plenty of game fish taxidermy on the wood covered walls, Old Style on draft, and of course the fish fry. The mirrors on the back bar sport Lowenbrau logos on either end, but I don't think they've served that fine beer since the Carter administration. Regardless, my friend Jon always orders one when he goes there just to have the bartender say "we don't have that". Every other Saturday night they have karaoke. Talent is fair to middling, and you can usually sing 4 or 5 songs over the course of the night if that's your thing. The crowd varies from early 20s to local geezers, and unlike the Ardmore around the corner everyone is pretty friendly. If you've made the move from the city to the western burbs and are missing the corner tavern from your old hood, give Stulgin's and their fry a try. read more

Second stop on my VP birthday bar crawl. I think we had to go through three doors just to get in. I don't know why there are so many doors. As soon as we stepped in the door, we were carded immediately. That's fine. We're of age, but we must have looked really young to get carded so quickly. Actually, I think it may have been my Dora the Explorer birthday hat. Special of the day was a can of Beck's for $3. I think it was a 16 oz can, so good deal. We sat at the bar until the rest of our group arrived. I saw an interesting item on the back counter of the bar that looked like a butt. I asked if it was a butt. Nope. It's a bull's ball sack. Win. When the rest of our group arrived, we moved to a table in the middle of the bar. Not much to the decor other than fish taxidermy, and bull ball sacks apparently. This place was better lit than the Aardmore Lounge. It looks like they tried to do some updating, but it still has the 80s feel. There were some regulars at the bar and once again, we were the youngest ones there, but we still had a good time and the bartender was really nice and told us "thanks for coming" when we left, so we didn't feel like we were being annoying. I'd consider coming back, but probably not my first choice. read more

Great neighborhood bar! The staff & locals are extremely friendly & welcoming. :) Be prepared for the awesome sports talk. The bartender is very attentive & upbeat. Unsure of her name, but a pleasant lady. I'd come back! read more

Heard this place was famous for their lenten fish fry..didn't get to try it though. This place is NOT wheelchair accessible.

A nice hidden neighborhood tavern that serves good food for lunch times only. They now have video gambling and the bar has a nice small town vibe feel and is not your typical suburban bar. The service is not so good the two times I went but the look and feel of the place makes up for the bad male bartenders they seem to hire. The bar is not too big and not too small and is just the right size bars should be though they could add more stuff on tap. read more

Love this little old school tavern!! Bartenders are friendly, drinks are cold, bar is as clean as a whistle. Wished they served dinner all the time, because their lunch is off the charts delish!!! If you have a chance to stop In, do so. You will NOT be disappointed. read more

My favorite place to drink. And best lunch around. And gamble this is the place where I always win big on the slots. If you wanna have fun come to the park blvd. tap Stolgins. read more

A little old school tavern that has THE BEST pattymelt one can find these days....the first time my husband and I went there I had the pattymelt. He thought I was nuts when I kept on saying how crazy good it was....until he tried it. We are both hooked on those pattymelts. The burgers and the other sandwiches are good too. Fries are great, too. Food is served only at lunch, except when they have fish fry Fridays during lent and corned beef and cabbage on St. Pats. read more

Stulgins is a friendly neighborhood tavern. We went tonight for a fish fry only offered in the evening during lent. The breading was delicious. You could see flecks of the spices in it. The fish was hot, hand breaded, great onion rings and curly fries. Although we didn't have the potato salad it looked delicious. For those who do not like fish there are burger and chicken sandwich selections. We highly recommend the Fiday night fish fry during lent butlucky for all, they offer fish fry on Fridays at lunch. They are open for lunch daily, Monday through Friday. We wish they had an IPA on tap but found two selections available in bottles. One more Friday night fish fry on Good Friday. Go there! read more

Jason is the best bar tender hands down. Keeping the old traditions new. Love him forever. Xoxo. But really he's the best.

My favorite bar in the whole world. Watch the game, meet new friends, win slots. What more do you want?

So this little hole in the wall place in Villa Park is THE place to go for fish fry on Friday nights during lent. I don't do the whole not eating meat thing on Friday nights but I usually end up not eating it anyways because there are so many places around here that have great fish fry! This is a small place so you should expect to wait on a Friday night, but I don't think I have ever waited more than like 45 mins. And you obv can drink while you wait which makes the time go by faster anyways. So then you get sat...the service is good considering the massive crowd and the food is AMAZING! I want to say they use Whitefish for their fish fry, which is all you can eat btw, and it is always super fresh and the breading on it is GREAT! They also serve the table these little corn fritter balls with a honey butter that is to die for!! Overall, you just have to try this place to see what I am talking about! Yumm!! read more

Wednesday nights are the bomb with Tammy. Best bartender ever. The music on Wednesday is crazy

A great neighborhood tavern with some amazing food and awesome staff. The fish fry is absolutely great, even the finicky kids in the group demolished their plates. read more

I have lived in Villa Park a long time and never considered going in this place but since a few guys, I know, were talking about it my wife and I decided to stop in for a beer about 3:30pm on Wednesday 2/1/12. A huge and unfriendly bartender lurched over with a scowl and asked what we wanted. When I asked for a Blue Moon beer for my wife he said he didn't serve the wife's beer. We walked out never to return and suggest that they discriminate against women! Anyplace would be better than this place. read more

Stulgins Tavern provided excellent service and food. We were addressed right after we sat down, and immediately asked what we would like to drink. The food was just as prompt as the service. I had the 1/2 lb. burger which was excellent with a side of delicious curly fries. Overall this is a great place to eat, however I only rate it four stars becuase of the overall condition of the place and the fact that they forgot to bring me my mayonaise. read more

The food here is always good. I had a Reuben and it was full of meat, saurkraut and very tasty. Kathy waited on us and she is always friendly as is the other staff. We never have had a bad meal! Nice friendly neighborhood atmosphere!! read more

Stulgin's is my favorite place for lunch. The service is super friendly, the food is excellent and the prices can't be beat. What more could one ask for! read more
