If you attempt to hold them responsible for what they promise and what you pay for, they will be difficult. Especially if you are an older out of shape women like me. XFit is supposed to be nice and good and sweet and accepting. This place just wants your money, or in my case just wants my money and doesn't want to follow through with what I pay for. Or will actually kick me out when I try to hold them accountable. They want your money and don't want to give you what you pay for and then they want to blame you for trying to get what you pay for. After the warm up fun we went through some great Snatch progression to ensure that our class was on point with with our form. I'm always happy to cover the ins and outs of lifts that we will be doing in our workouts; performing these drills makes me realize that for so many years I've been lifting all wrong and with no true guidance. Jacks hospitality was top notch and only surpassed by his coaching ability I will definitely be coming back next time I'm in town. I highly suggest that if you are interested in becoming a healthier better "you" that you make Crossfit Above the Bar your first stop.

I was in town visiting my parents from DC and needed to get a workout in, so I started researching…read moregyms in FWB and contacting them about drop in policies. Crossfit Above The Bar was the only one of three gyms that I called and/or emailed that actually contacted me back. So they were the winner and I'm feeling really lucky that's where I ended up because it was such a great experience. Jack greeted me and got me set up quickly, then introduced me to Gabby and asked her to pair up with me and show me around. It was Saturday so we did a team WOD and it was a great workout. Everyone at this gym was so friendly and hospitable... I can't say enough about how great they were. Sometimes it can be a challenge just to walk into a box and feel like you're part of the crew, but that was not the case. From now on, when I'm in town visiting family I will make Crossfit Above the Bar my gym away from home.

I LOVED IT. The owners, Fallon and Lex are the nicest and most awesome business owners {AND coaches} that I think any athlete could ever ask for. The gym is kept very clean (I have visited many boxes, and know that cleanliness can definitely be an issue), but not here. Also, the coaches go above and beyond to make sure that you feel at home - there's never really that awkward moment when people don't know who others are, so its intimidating. CFVU makes sure to make everyone feel welcome, no matter their level of fitness or familiarity with CrossFit. They also make sure that they check up on you if they haven't seen you in a while - they personally take time out of their day(s) to follow up with you and make sure everything is okay. You can't beat that. They also offer a sweet Yelp deal for checking in, and they offer military and first responder discounted monthly rates as well! The only CON I have about this box is the open gym times - since they are very closely knit with the owners and coaches, they cannot run open gym as often as I'm sure they would like (as well as you as a potential athlete here, would like). However, that is something I came to live with here, and I'm sure if they decide to add more staff and coaches later on, that the open gym times may increase. Not really make or break, at least not for me! I LOVE this gym, and I was super bummed to leave, but I had to move out of state. An amazing box, and super beginner friendly :)

This gym is the standard by which I measure all Crossfit gyms. I have travelled all around the US…read moreand overseas and this is by far the gym that has the most integration of functional fitness, health, and community that I have ever found. I have since moved out of state and I have tried three different boxes in my town and none of them have held a candle to this place. Great equipment, HUGE facility and trainers who I would count as some of my closest friends. In regard to the previous reviews, let me address some of their gripes... For "Christine J," I don't know who she met when she came to the gym but Jordon is definitely neither narcissistic nor an a-hole (sorry, I like to keep my language cleaner than hers). He has a lot of people clamoring for his advice and attention at every workout because he is REALLY good at what he does. If she didn't think he had enough time to pay attention to her, perhaps the narcissistic shoe is on the other foot? As to what Kristen had to say, yes, I belonged to the gym. Yes, I wore Lululemon shorts (not pants because it's hot as heck in the Florida panhandle by Memorial Day... were you really there then because I don't see ANYONE wearing pants there in May, Lulu or otherwise... No one makes pants to wick away 90F with 100% humidity! Lol..) I don't think that anyone there thinks the gym is a beauty contest... maybe the gym you usually attend just has less fit people who are therefore not as attractive? I really don't know, but my friends at this gym are still some of my closest friends overall (even after moving across the country) and I met them because they were super nice & friendly. Jesse, the owners wife, truthfully is gorgeous but she is also the NICEST woman you will ever meet... she is a friend to everyone and I don't think I have ever heard a crabby word come out of her mouth! I have been to dozens of other Crossfit gyms and NEVER has anyone but the owner come up and introduced themselves to me. Not.One.Time. Here, the WODs are done in two rounds so you are forced to partner up and thus gain an instant cheerleader and spotter for your workout. That's how I met people, just acted like myself and made friends there, and people were always coming up to ask how long I had been crossfitting, where I was from, etc. I can see how if you walked into the gym acting like you were hot sh** and really standoffish that folks wouldn't say hello... I mean the other members are there to workout, not to make you feel good about your personality problems. But, like any group of people, if you are nice and friendly they will respond in kind. :) I have never been to a 4 minute workout at any Crossfit gym ever... the time you should be at the gym is an hour, almost to the minute at this place. You come in, warm up, do some dynamic or strength work, do the WOD, cool down/stretch out and then... maybe if there is time left in the hour, you can do some skill work before the hour is over. The actual WOD may have been 4 minutes but hey, that's called FRAN. If you don't like short, high intensity workouts, don't do Crossfit. If she thought that the WOD was the only important part of the workout, she's going to get injured in the near future and probably badly because she thinks that warm-ups, practicing movements, Olympic lifting and post-workout stretching/rolling out of muscles is "a waste of time." She my comment below about "nutrition professionals" but I have a feeling she should do some research... any research... about what makes a fit body and most of that healthy body is built in the kitchen and in yoga class (stretching). And who gets off talking about someone else's kids? Who are Really, the worst you could day about the gym is that someone under two didn't behave properly? Sounds like someone doesn't have kids and therefore knows "just how to parent..." I currently have two children under age three and I can tell you that child was/is in no way "dangerous"... call me when you have a baby, sweetheart, and then we will chat. Finally, I hate to sound snarky but I truly don't believe "nutrition" is a reputable degree... Jordon has some pretty extensive background through his military training and beyond and I feel like "nutrition professionals" are a dime a dozen and always pushing some gross, chemical-filled, chalky diet shakes on you for the pyramid scheme company that they work for. Anyway, my personal reflections on these two reviews aside, Christine said it best when she said, "my final rant about this place." Yes, that's what they are... illogical rants. If you want a good gym, a great workout and an atmosphere that challenges you to push yourself, join this gym. I haven't seen their price list lately but I truly believe you get what you pay for... if you care about your health; buy local, buy organic and for goodness sakes, buy a membership to CFFWB!

She thought that exercise would help with her mobility. I got intouch with these guys and per our conversation they told me for personal trainer it would be 30.00 per 30 minute sessions and did not do contract's. My wife went to a meet and greet and really liked Skylar. I asked my wife how it went and she said fine. I asked if they charged her 30.00 for the day and she didn't know. I checked her Ssi account and saw they charged her 180.00.so I figured she paid for 6sessions. As she was going she started not being able to feel well enough to go. Her neurologist told her she needed physical therapy instead of the exercise she was doing. So she felt like she wanted to complete the 6 session's. But she was on new medication and really could not do it. We figured that the 2 remaining sessions we would just forfeit. I told them sorry but she will be starting physical therapy as soon as she adjusted to the new medication. I was told that since they weren't given 30 day's notice that they were going to bill her for an additional two weeks of 140.00. I said but you don't have contacts so I don't understand. He said that they have agreements and she signed one. I said she didn't know she had agreed to anything like that. I told him she never received any paperwork. So he texted me copies of the so-called agreement. It had no date or dollar amount so they could have billed a million dollars according to that agreement. It also referred to the contract 2 time's even though he said that they don't have contracts. I checked my wife's account and saw they had already charged her 140.00 a week earlier. My only option was to cancel her debit card and have a new one reissued so they could not hit her for any additional charges. My wife signed the paperwork where she was told to and didn't understand what it really said. She can't read without her glasses and did not have them with her. And I know they didn't take the time to make sure she really understood the paperwork. I have to explain things to her several times before she understands what I telling her. I feel that they really took advantage of her. It's called elderly financial abuse and they should be ashamed of themselves. I only hope they don't teach their children that this is acceptable. So my worning to you is look out for the most vulnerable people in your life so these kind of predators cannot take advantage of them.
