I thought the brewery would be more a part of the church, but it is a separate back building that is the brewery. They have decent beer, but the food is just reheated frozen bar food. Overall we enjoyed the drinks but we disappointed in I guess what we had expected from the google photos... but we were happy with the drinks. I would return for sure.

We wanted to see the monastery buildings, and were pleased to find there's a brewery on site as well! Signage on the property is clear and parking is easy. Inside, the aesthetic is a little over-the-top Catholic; our server explained they're not officially affiliated with the religious institution but respect their space. Okay. The light fixtures are cross-shaped; I'm always surprised to see otherwise-cheery places decorated with a tool of torture and murder. But I digress... signs with Dad-joke-level beer/religion puns dot the walls. A t-shirt is printed with the Blessed Mother and "Ale Mary". Just one person was on staff on the rainy weekday of our visit. He greeted us, took our drink and food orders, then stepped away to the kitchen. It didn't take long for him to resurface with chicken wings and toasted ravs (that's what we call them in St. Louis; here I believe it was "fried ravioli".) He defly worked both front of house and back and kept up with the steady stream of lunch patrons. Beer's good! We were in the midst of a road trip so I had a flight; best to try several with minimal impact to my driving game. The blueberry wheat is especially nice; it's just a bit fruity and crisp. The Winter Warmer was left over from Christmas season and had pleasant notes of baking spices. The Irish Red, called Sister Mary Rose, was my fave. Food was just fine as well; what we ordered was the sort of fare that arrives frozen and is dropped in a fryer. The dinner menu looks to include some home-cooking, which looks even better!

I had a perfect evening here. For me, that's an evening with some beer, some wifi and a peaceful spot where I can sit with my laptop. And despite the family atmosphere with a few kids running about, I was undisturbed. I had two absolutely terrific beers and sat at a table outside the main dining room next to the office. A power outlet there and so I not only wrote a half dozen or so Yelp reviews, I was able to fully charge all of my electronics before heading onwards. For me, that's a perfect evening. There's a friendly vibe here. Folks coming and going, families who haven't seen each other since last week, a beertender who wanted to make sure that I was satisfied with my beers. Love it. Absolutely loved the beer! My favorite was Santa's Winter Warmer. So delicious. My only disappointment was it was all sold out for purchase to take home!

Great food, great beer great service. This is a must see. You're going to love it. I'm drinking the American Barley Wine.

Brewery in a church! What more could you want. Smells like fried food but beers are tasty. Pretty out of the way but a great stop if you find yourself in/near Ferdinand, IN.

Before we being, let us open with a prayer (written by yours truly in the Brew Works' parking lot): Ale Mary, full of hops The brews are with thee Blessed art thou among inebriates And blessed is the fruit of thy tanks, beer-sus. Hoppy Mary, mother of malts. Pray for us drunks, now and at the hour of our hangover. Cheers. When Christopher organized one of our (patent-pending) #YelpLouINvasion excursions (get it...Louisville yelpers in *IN*diana...puns, I got 'em), centered primarily on a visit to a brewery at a monastery...I wasn't sure what to expect. But you better believe that I was up for the adventure! We got a little confused about what time it was when we were getting close...it seems as though on one side of the highway you are in the Eastern time zone and on the other side you are in Central. Our phones didn't all match up, because apparently we were pinging off of different towers. So...just be aware of where you are coming from and going to...if you intend to get there right around opening (like we were). We drove up shortly after they opened, but we weren't actually the first ones there! You could see they were still setting up shop, and there were things being arranged for a special event later in the day. The brewery isn't much to look at, and resides in the lower level of a church. But it all kind of adds to the charm and theme of the place. The lights in the bar/tasting room hang from wooden crosses, the beers are playfully named with Catholic-adjacent words and terms, the taps are cut outs of nuns in habits, and there are big ol' cut outs of nuns holding beers. They have a schtick and they embrace it! The bartender was exceptionally friendly and we all enjoyed chatting with him. They offer some small food options and we chose to share a big soft pretzel. It was pretty tasty. And prices are incredibly reasonable! A flight runs $6 for a sampling of what is available, pints cost $5, and a growler fill is $14. I didn't love all the beers, but I am still learning what I like when it comes to the brewed nectar of the gods! They aren't terribly bitter, they boast a decent ABV, and are easily drinkable. We had a great first impression when we walked in, and as our visit went on our affection and enjoyment grew! You could do far worse than going out of your way for a visit! If we hadn't had a few other things on our schedule for the day, I think we probably would have stayed for a couple more pints!

Great stop with surprisingly good We also ordered a couple appetizers that were really good...garlic Parmesan boneless wings and spicy cheese curds.

This place is really interesting. Located deep within the bustling metropolis of Ferdindand, Indiana (population 2100), the brewery is a part of the Monastery of the Immaculate Conception. Not really sure if the Sisters of St. Benedict are actually brewing the beer, but it is delightful. Grab some pretzel bites while you quaff your ale. We will be back.

This rating is solely based on their beer. Supposedly they have good pizza but I didn't try it. Beer was weak and average at best.

The potato fries are pretty good, but don't box them together to go for 20 minutes. Too soggy. If you get the delicious chicken and French fries, leave the top open. AND - WE ARE probably the unfortunate ones to receive the most horrific tasting coleslaw we have ever not wanted to enter our mouth EVER. It tasted like the absolute bitter core of the cabbage with disgusting fish sauce or sea weed. I love fish sauce and sea weed as an ingredient in Asian food. However, WHO in the HECK approved this mixture? I never had coleslaw minced that fine, and that would have been an amazing difference, but my wife and I spit it out immediately. THE PIZZA IS really good. If we received - 2 - coleslaws at the same time that you are proud of, then I'm sorry you didn't get that nasty feedback before my order. But I might ask for a sample taste the next time. Just in case there was a mistake.

I pulled up to the parking lot and wasn't sure where the entrance was because there was a worker loading supplies in through the only door I saw. I walked to the side and saw a set of stairs to a second floor door and thought this can't be it. So I walked back and asked the employee where the entrance was and he shook his head in disgust and pointed to the door that he had blocked with supplies. I climbed over all the stuff that the extra from Deliverance loaded here and proceeded inside. Inside was that of a VFW hall or Lions Club lodge, it lacked any kind of style. I really don't care about that part per se as long as the beer is good. They had a metal rack with merchandise just laying around in a mess that rivaled a Target at the end of a Black Friday sale. The bar was a disorganized mess too and the beer was listed on a dry erase board. They only had a few and it wasn't clear if they brewed them all or not. I mean the Words "Cider" doesn't give me a lot of information. I got my flight and the beer was ok but nothing special. I learned their beer is actually brewed at St Benedict's Beer Works in Ferdinand Indiana. I don't know how the food is but from a simple atmosphere and organizational standpoint, they could improve this place a lot with just a little work

The only thing I would ask the next time I order it- and I will soon- is to either not cut the quesadilla at all, or only cut it in half. I didn't want to wait for it to get cold and the two middle pieces out of the four were hard to contain. I still ate every last drop. I also had a glass of "Nun Dragon" beer that they make. -YES- ! I liked it VERY much. Not completely sure what the ingredients are, but it had a slight coffee flavor that I really enjoyed. I wish YELP could have had a gathering here. The location is fairly new , and the brew offerings are always challenging in a great way. That said- the food menu is changing not only to include the steak Quesadilla.
