Very saddened to have to write this but I do believe that the way my cat passed away was due to the care he received at St. Francis. He was constipated on a Friday, they gave him an enima and sent him home with some meds. He seemed to be fine after that and then he had trouble urinating. We brought him back in a week later and they said his bladder ruptured (after telling us they would perform a seemingly routine procedure). I do believe he was handled in poor care because we went back and he was hooked up to oxygen and that will forever be the way I remember seeing him suffer at the end. Heartbreaking. read more

There is no better vet in Santa Barbara than St. Francis Pet Clinic. Every single vet is carrying, knowledgeable and helpful. Dr. Pelton always figures out a way to get you in, makes sure your dogs are taken care of and takes the time to explain things. Dr. Lawrence is also amazing. She was the first person I met at St. Francis. She's smart and carrying. And let me tell you a story about Dr. Harmon. My poor boy had stomach/colon issues and it was late in the day/early evening. Dr. Harmon went above and beyond to help my boy and the whole team at St. Francis (techs and front desk) did as well. And they all follow up, to check in and make sure your fur babies are doing well. When it's hard to find a good vet or even get your dog in to see a vet around town, the caring veterinarians at St. Francis always figure out a way to make sure my fur babies are taken care of. Old clients don't last forever. How strange is this vet? They say on the website " the clinic has been providing progressive, compassionate, and comprehensive high quality veterinary care". Our dog needed oral surgery and the doctor and entire staff provided the most amazing care. Dr. Harmon is EVERYTHING you could want in a vet...she is competent, caring, and her love is definitely felt by your pet (and the owner too!) It is wonderful when someone genuinely appreciates how special your dog/cat is and works so hard to keep the animals healthy and happy. Dr. Harmon goes all out everytime. I was so nervous about my little old dog, and she did fantastically during and after the surgery. The staff provides ongoing communication and the homecare instructions were so clear. DO NOT take your pet here. The vets are younger and clearly lack experience. They have been too non-chalant about issues and let them get too far. One was redeemable because of anti-biotics but this latest mistake is causing my girlfriends best friend to be taken from us FAR TOO SOON. She went in about a lump that appeared out of nowhere but was bushed off saying it was nothing. Then a 2nd larger lump nearby appeared out of nowhere too and was brushed off as a muscle issue, which never made sense to me because she was running and jumping just fine. Then it kept getting bigger and worse and was still being bushed off. Until all of a sudden it was really really bad and they told her "oh, sorry your dog has cancer". They let it get too bad and spread too far to come back from. Let our mistake going here be a warning to others about their lack of experience. read more

Be diligent in your veterinary choices-- The care I hoped to find for my dog at this clinic is more important than the size of the credit I reasonably requested--a small fraction of the thousands I was billed and remitted. To defend ignoring the signs of what was acute pneumonia became profoundly serious for my dog. I would love to stand corrected, however I find no reason to trust St. Francis clinic--not in their office management, nor for the care I needed for my dog. The above response from St. Francis clinic comes almost six weeks after my review AND is unsupported by any facts or documentation I can find. I cannot locate any discount, credit, nor refund issued by this clinic to my credit card. It is not what somebody says but rather, what they actually do. In my case, there is a lot of disparity between words and action--even apparently to the point of asserting they made a non-existent credit to my account on a public forum. Take your companions to a trustworthy, honest, reliable veterinary practice--you have many options other than St. Francis in the Santa Barbara and surrounding area. read more

Dr. Harmon and Vet tech Renata have been a wonderful team for our chihuahua/pit bull. Dr. Harmon has offered us every possible solution to make visits more comfortable for him and safe for all concerned. Both my Labradores's have been cared for by St Francis Pet Clinic since they were 8 weeks old. Even though they have gotten their shots there, my dogs are unafraid and even go a little crazy with excitement whenever we drive up to or by the clinic. My eldest dog is now 14 1/2 and my youngest is 1 year. They have always been well cared for and loved by the doctors and staff. The clinic has always been responsive as well. They send me annual reminders for vistis. As my eldest dog turns the corner, I am turning to St. Francis Clinic for sage advice and end of life care. We have been using St Francis as our vet clinic since 2006 for our two cats. However, we are not frequent since our cats are indoor and not had any issues until recently. They are older and one started to lose weight rapidly and appetite. They are busy but were able to see her in a few days. The doctor was very thorough, gave us options for diagnosis that even considered our budget. He followed up quickly with the results and even though the diagnosis was terminal he gave the care she needed to be comfortable and allowed us and the kids time to share some quality final days together. He answered all our questions and gave us what we needed to make hard decisions. I just had to have my very elderly cat euthanized. Abbie (one of the techs) and Dr. Harmon were beyond sympathetic and caring. They were absolutely wonderful and made a horrible agonizing decision easier to make. A few days later, his 'aquamains' were ready for me to pick up. (That means they do the cremation in water instead of fire.) They were nicely boxed, and put inside an elegant drawstring bag, and included a certificate of aquamation for my cat and a wooden pendant with his pawprint. I would highly recommend this vet clinic. Fortunately for me I felt I have found the West coast version! Dr. Morgan was an absolute pleasure to work with. He was caring, thorough, and my pets loved him. Even my cat was calm and curious around him which is unusual. They prescribed a over-the-counter medicine to me and in my experience pet clinics usually up-charge these medications a lot. I followed Dr. Adrienne Oliver to this clinic from White's, which felt too busy to me. At St. Francis, several of the techs know my dogs personally and are always delighted to see us. They promptly fill out the Therapy Dog Certification form annually for my Daisy Mae too, who volunteers at Cottage Hospital. I have two pitties and my 6 year old boy recently started limping. Within minutes, Dr. Oliver (correctly!) assessed that he had torn his cruxiate ligament. After x rays confirmed that her diagnosis was correct & I considered surgery, he followed that up by tearing his meniscus about a week later. Two weeks ago he had TPLO surgery at Advanced Veterinary Specialists, whom I selected after Dr. Oliver recommended their surgeon. Dr. Oliver is the best! (Just ask Daisy Mae & TyTy) I met Dr. Oliver years ago because my mom has an 11 year old male Siamese cat who was the runt of his litter and has had myriad health issues. HIs biggest is allergies so bad that his eyes scab over and he loses the fur around them. Dr. Oliver took the time (months) it took to figure out his issues. Turns out he's allergic to grass, pollen and (drum roll please).... cats! read more

Not knowing the pet hospitals around Someone told me to run to St Francis I rushed our pet while he was chocking from a chew bone. As soon as I rushed in I told the receptionist "My dog is chocking" She dropped what she was doing to help our dog She helped me to write my paper work While I had my mommy moment. They helped and took care of our boy I did what I could to help him but I feel that their fast response made it possible I would love to have my dog come back but we live in Thousand Oaks which makes it a drive. Dr. Morgan is by far the best vet I have been to. Very experienced and knowledgeable. He won't recommend unnecessary diagnostics, understands financial limitations, but also genuinely cares and wants the best treatment for your pet. He is also really good with our dog who usually fears and dislikes the vet. When my dog tore a ligament, I was looking at over $10,000 in surgery. I decided to take her to Dr. Morgan to get his opinion before proceeding. He told my that while surgery is an option, it was not guaranteed to work, and his opinion was that she would make close to a full recovery with medicine and a bit of physical therapy and he was right. He didn't even insist on x-rays (which wouldn't make sense, because it was clearly soft tissue, but nearly EVERY other vet would have insisted on this unnecessary cost). She has since recovered well and I am so glad I didn't get an unnecessary surgery that might have actually hurt her in the long run. When my same "special" dog had an issue with her eye, Dr. Morgan was very quick to tell us that this was outside of his area of expertise and refer us to a specialist. I really appreciated that he didn't recommend a bunch of diagnostics before doing this (there are many other vets who would), and that he didn't try to pretend he had expertise he didn't. Overall I have never found a vet my dogs and I trust more. I know that whatever Dr. Morgan recommends, I will likely do, because I have that much trust in him. read more
