This is Cisco. Who Pelton could not deal with

Bedside manner sucks with Dr. Pelton. I have been going here for 12 years, first with cats for the last 5 years with Cisco my King Charles Spaniel. I was there today for his annual check up and just like the last visit, he was condescending and made some rude comments about Cisco being too unruly for him to deal with. I will stay with St Francis but not see Dr. Pelton again.

There is no better vet in Santa Barbara than St. Francis Pet Clinic. Every single vet is carrying, knowledgeable and helpful. Dr. Pelton always figures out a way to get you in, makes sure your dogs are taken care of and takes the time to explain things. Dr. Lawrence is also amazing. She was the first person I met at St. Francis. She's smart and carrying. And let me tell you a story about Dr. Harmon. My poor boy had stomach/colon issues and it was late in the day/early evening. Dr. Harmon went above and beyond to help my boy and the whole team at St. Francis (techs and front desk) did as well. And they all follow up, to check in and make sure your fur babies are doing well. When it's hard to find a good vet or even get your dog in to see a vet around town, the caring veterinarians at St. Francis always figure out a way to make sure my fur babies are taken care of. Thank you St. Francis team! Simply the best!!!

Very, very happy with St. Francis and Dr. Harmon is the best. The entire staff is friendly, helpful and we especially appreciate that the several vaccine appointments we have had were always perfectly on time...no waiting. Or if we have an issue pop up, we are able to get in to see a vet without delay. We are so fortunate to have them to care for our Lexi.

    Serenity House hospice therapy

I've taken my dogs and cats to St. Francis for 30 years. Dr. Pelton has been excellent taking care of my hospice certified therapy dog. Great staff, great location. 5 stars!

Cookie smiling after surgery...so happy to get those rotten teeth out!

Dr Lawrence and Dr Harmon are wonderful. Dr Pelton is horrible. I wouldn't go to him if he were the last vet on Earth.

She is an excellent, knowledgeable vet who is very compassionate and gentle with my dog. I really appreciate her giving me different options, not all that I necessarily follow, but allows me to makeup my own mind with all the facts. The tech and office staff are always helpful and cheerful as well.

In response to the owner…read more Your response is disappointing because it completely avoids taking accountability for what actually happened. Hazel did not present with a cough. She presented with difficulty breathing and gagging whenever she opened her mouth to bark or yawn, and that her bark was now non existent. Those were the symptoms I repeatedly reported. You state that medications were provided to keep her comfortable. She was sent home with an anti-nausea medication and an allergy medication. She was not sent home with pain medication or steroids despite the obvious discomfort she was in. So I'm not quite sure where the team "cared so deeply" during her exams or after. You also state that a specialty referral was recommended. That is not what happened. After the test results, Dr. Keusis called me and said Hazel's results were "just leaning towards old age like she'd previously noted". It was then 5 days later only after I expressed how disappointed I was with the lack of recommendations, lack of urgency, and complete lack of follow through, and told Dr. Keusis I was taking Hazel to an internal medicine specialist myself, that a referral was finally offered. I was left to figure out on my own what my next steps should be while my dog continued struggling with her symptoms, and continued to get worse. If laryngeal paralysis was being evaluated, why was Hazel's airway obstruction not identified? If visualization of her larynx was limited, why was I never informed of that? If her airway could not be adequately assessed, why wasn't an immediate referral recommended instead of reassuring me she was "just leaning towards old age" like she'd said? When the internal specialist said the swelling was "obvious". Rather than acknowledging where your care and communication fell short, your response rewrites the timeline to make it appear as though everything appropriate was done from the beginning. It wasn't. I wasn't expecting perfection. I was expecting my concerns to be taken seriously, my dog to be advocated for, and appropriate recommendations to be made without me having to push for them myself. Even now, instead of acknowledging that your team let both Hazel and me down, you've chosen to defend your actions and misrepresent what actually occurred. That lack of accountability is exactly why I wrote the review

Maybe they are going through a difficult time, like I think a recent retired doctor, but it's just been a recent change in overall attentiveness and level of care. There isn't consistently a place for the pets to wait for there turn in a quiet space. Families aren't all given the chance to stay in the room with their pets. It is considered a special request. Our cat ended up having to wait in the car to avoid the sounds and smells of the dogs. He dislikes dogs, so this already makes it a little challenging and stresses him out. We voiced other concerns with them directly, so I don't think it's necessary to include everything here, but just wanted to leave a review as feedback so hopefully they take it to heart to improve. We are sad to leave this practice. They were so friendly and caring until the end of our time having our cat as a patient. I am not leaving a bad rating, just 3 stars because the vets are actually really skilled. But the admin staff and support from the techs hasn't felt up to par recently. Hopefully things get back on track.

Without running any tests the vet came back and said it might be cancer. I acknowledged that may be the case but thought it was alarmist and premature to say that. The technician came back after cleaning the ear up to say they at this point they do agree it's a wound with possible infection, not cancer. Although they wanted to meet with me to go over the treatment and meds before I left, they forgot to put an antibiotic medicine dispenser in my bag, and three separate times I had to remind them to go back and give my (feral) cat his first dose of antibiotics, and flea meds, and remind them again to check for worms. They also forgot to give me topical antiseptic pads so I can clean the wound. I think they are training young interns who have no idea what they are doing.
