The staff is good overall but I know they have a difficult time finding and keeping talented teachers. Most of the really good teachers gravitate to public schools with higher pay. The biggest problem is that some of the math teachers are terrible. It will be interesting to see if any changes are made to personnel in the future. The school has a high enrollment. With this high enrollment comes problems though. The school has some cliques. I know this is a problem at many schools also. There are some families that have taken over all of the parent groups. Whether its the Family Board, the School Board, the Athlete Board, Carnival Board, Facilities Board, the same people are holding power and doing favors for each other. It's nauseating. I suppose if you are in the right clique then everything will be fine. If you are not in the right clique then your children will be treated as second class citizens. I've seen alumni of the school get blackballed because they did not play nice with the power families. Maybe I'm getting carried away but it can be unnerving. The church is nice. It's not the fanciest church in the area but it is clean and inviting. The pastor is always asking for more money but name me a church that isn't asking for money. You can get married, baptized, and have funerals here. There is a big parking lot and they installed a playground which looks really nice. So here are your choices: Send your kids to public school, St Catherine, St Linus, St Gerald, and St Germaine. The good thing is that there are many choices in the Oak Lawn area for elementary education. You will do good with any of them.

Class sizes are small (generally fewer than 18 students/class) with opportunities for 1:1 tutoring and other support services with classroom teachers and support staff. Charity and charism are part and parcel of the school's mission and philosophy. As such, students give of themselves through many different outreach opportunities such as our monthly food drives, COVID-19 testing and vaccination days, mental health support and awareness community events, and Ecology/environmental outreach at Big Marsh Park and other nearby wetlands. Calvary has remained true to prepare students to live as Kingdom leaders in a fallen world. The faculty and administration are outstanding. The school is moving in a great direction. There has been increased engagement with families with heightened transparent communication between educators and parents. Many opportunities for community development amongst students, parents, faculty, and staff have been implemented. Clearly, GOD's hand is on Calvary Academy. One final note, I believe the fact that the school's student body is predominantly African-American is not a weakness but a strength. I can remember every teacher I had and I learned so much and took away so many things, but one thing I will forever be grateful for is being in a culture and community that taught about Jesus Christ. It may not be a big deal to some, but as an adult, I'm soooo grateful for that foundation! Fast forward, my kid has started here and I have no regrets. The teachers are very compassionate and desire for the students to succeed. The administration is AMAZING! I have seen firsthand, how the Head of School (Dr. Page) and Principal Dr. Collins do their best to put the students first and to collaborate with the parents. They actually listen to the concerns of the parents and desire to make things new and fresh at Calvary. I can breathe knowing that when my child walks into that building, that one: he's been prayed for by the staff, two: he's safe, and three: he's growing in education and in the Lord. I mean, what more could you want? Will everything be perfect at a school? Of course not. You won't find perfection anywhere, but can you expect growth in your children, to be heard as a parent, and feel supported? Yes, yes and yes!
