Do not go here! The bartender who says she is the owner has NO respect for the people who help her make a living. In the first 3 minutes I was in this bar she called me a bitch and told me if I didn't like her attitude to leave. Let me explain. I ordered two lites, turned to talk to my friends, turned back around gave her my ID that she asked for and my money, turned back around to talk looked back to grab one of the beers for a friend and they were gone. I asked the bartender where my beer was and my change. She told me I should stop talking and pay attention. I then in a calm manner told her that she didn't have to be such a bitch. I was "nonchalantly" calling her out on her nasty attitude. She proceeded by calling me the bitch when I did absolutely nothing wrong, and said if I didn't like her attitude "to get the fuck out"!!! I was shocked and appalled! I would have left but I had a group of 7 and not everyone wanted to drive. Later that night there was a fight, and I guess this crazy woman started yelling at someone to get out and they poured a beer on her. Too bad they didn't throw it in her face! This is a great dive. It doesn't (usually) stink. The drinks are cheap and they are generous with the dart tips. (Cricket! It reminds me of college!) However, the jukebox really, really sucks. Really sucks. I think there was only one visit that I can remember with tolerable music--the night the jukebox was broken and they had to play the radio. My girls and I have been here twice. The drinks are very inexpensive. The music is not that great, but the staff is very friendly. Ample parking, clean bathrooms. They do not serve food, but Lou Malnati's is within walking distance of the establishment and they will deliver or you can pick it up. read more

A great dive bar. Mixed Drinks, beer, and shots for $2. Sure the inside of this place is nothing fancy, but if you are looking for cheap drinks this is a good place to go. They have darts in the back which are also cheap. It usually has a mixed crowd of the older regulars sitting at the bar and some younger people scattered throughout. This place is really good for what it is, a dive bar with cheap drinks, darts, jukebox, and great bartenders. We have been here more than a few times and we've always had a good time. For a dive bar, they surprisingly have a few options for red or white wine. Great beer specials, and they make a strong vodka soda. Great place to hangout, my friends and I can usually scope out a table or area by the bar when we get there. Gets crowded on the weekends but, it's not overwhelming. They have a breathalyzer machine on the wall that you can pay 50 cents to check yourself before you leave the bar. I'm not sure how accurate it is because you're given a coffee stirrer straw to use to breathe into it, but, another quirk about this place. read more

If you're like me, you pay close attention to the small details. I went on a Friday night because my friend suggested that St James was a nice hip place to go. I was expecting a atmosphere with young people but it was mostly full of an older crowd. The beer is cheap and the mixed drinks are cheap too. There is pretty open space so you can walk around and explore the place. You can play darts with your friends and play a song on the jukebox. However, a lot of the people's music selection is screamo/hardcore/slaughterhouse loud music, horrible horrible music. If I played a song of my taste, everyone would probably go home. I don't see myself going here again but people seem to enjoy it so that's what counts. read more

St. James Place is a clean, relaxed tavern in Oak Lawn. It has a chill vibe, cheap drinks and great bartenders. Everyday is $3 you call it's whether it is drinks, beers, or shots. There is no food menu here, but pizza and snacks are available. Always a good beer selection available. They always have rotating craft beers either on draft or in the bottle. I've been a regular at this bar for about 4 years now, and have consistently had an excellent experience. The drinks are dirt cheap. You could go with $20 and have at least 6 drinks. The music box is not crazy loud, so you can fully enjoy both the music and the conversation of whoever you're drinking with. They recently got these drinks called Apple Pie shots, which are crazy delicious and taste EXACTLY like apple pie. Another excellent drink they have which is made by my favorite bartender, Gina, is called Jazzy J. If you like something sweet, you will not be disappointed. All of the bartenders are cool and sociable and will check on you to make sure your glasses stay filled with your alcoholic beverage of choice. Another awesome thing about this bar is that they're people from all walks of life and background who drink here, so it's unlikely anyone will fill unwelcome. I highly recommend this spot. read more

church is my favorite local bar. theresa and shauna are the sweetest people alive and they know what they're doing behind the bar. drinks are cheap af, to the point where i've sometimes had trouble meeting the $10 minimum for cards. they've got a couple of snack options, a few dart boards as well, overall my favorite dive in the area. read more

This is a very nice hole in the wall. The drinks are inexpensive and they have multiple dart boards that you can play a round of darts at. I was here one afternoon in June with some buddies and we had an awful experience. I dont plan on going back anytime soon. The only pro is the cheap booze for $2 a drink. Ive never had such bad service before. We were served by the younger, redhead bartender who had the personality of a wet mop and was very unfriendly. We were constantly left waiting with empty glasses because she was more interested in her cigarettes (cigarette breath and yellow nicotine teeth isnt a good look!) than her customers. Bad to go to before 8 unless you like sitting with old rude drunk men who one care about baseball. And get annoyed if anyone plays music. But at night it's the younger crowd, which is more lively. Boyfriend and I went here on a Saturday afternoon. After a group of 6 older gentlemen left, it was us 2 and about 6 others. We sat in the middle of the bar, ordered our first beer, paid, and tipped a dollar. Right off the bat, the red headed bartender seemed to have a bad attitude and wasn't friendly at all. I finished my beer and at that time the bartender had gone outside to presumably smoke. After 15 minutes, she came back and both of our beers were empty. She passed us right up and proceeded to serve the other side of the bar then talk to them for 10 minutes. She made her way back towards us but still did not acknowledge us or our empty glasses. After 5 more minutes of being ignored, we left. Very disappointed because we've had great experiences here with other bartenders. read more

As the other reviewers have indicated this is a good dive bar. Bartenders are friendly and run a tight ship on the few regulars who get a little mouthy now and then. But no problems. They do have a few good beers on tap including Guiness. No food service. Parking can be a pain as the back lot is small and fills up fast. You can park on the side streets.
