The week of January 11th, 2021 when I entered the store I was shocked to see owners (or I think they are) not wearing masks. I realize for some people this is a personal choice yet when one is running a business and elect not to wear a mask is unsetteling. One other employee was there and she never wore a mask. At that point I should have left the items I intended to purchase yet I thought I would distance myself. Then there were a small family of customers that weren't wearing masks either! Went to the counter to pay, used the hand sanitizer that was on the counter and the lady checking me out scolded me as the sanitize was runny and got on a newspaper! Excuse me, not my fault the stuff was like water. I don't like wearing a mask yet with a spouce with COPD and taking care of a 92 year old mother in law, I don't have a choice. Plus I'm a 70 year old that does not want to get COVID. I will never set foot in that store again. Instead I'll make the short drive to MI where store owners adhere to the requirements. Product wise it's a nice store with variety. Take your chances entering this establishment. My husband loved going through their old LP records yet there are too many other antique stores in the area that sell them too.

A neat shop with a variety of things. Many old albums. An old jukebox. Lots of fun items.read more

For Charmaine to give a three star review based on the fact the book store is purposefully not catering to those outside of this is an issue to me. More than not things are catered to everyone BUT us. We have someone who opened a store to do this and you get someone non melanated who wants to criticize. Do like we do and MOVE ON, it's not catered for you, accept that and keep it moving. I LOVE this bookstore and the owner, Carlos as well. I find what I need/want, and also can grab body oils that smell so nice. In fact seeing Charmaine's review makes me know I need to get my but in there this week and make a visit. This store prospers just fine without you Charmaine. It has been around for years. We know where to go. KRS-One and J Prince found it great enough to come visit, and drop some knowledge. Had you bothered to ASK you would have seen, what you were looking for wasn't there he can order and get. Instead you leave a mediocre review.......darn shame. I guess the name of the book store did not give a clue...BLACKstone Bookstore and CULTURAL Center. Did you really think it was your culture that he was speaking of with this name?

It's in a small, unassuming strip mall (slightly overshadowed by…read morethe liquor store next door, but once you have been to Green Light, you won't even notice the neighbors any more, so intent are you on getting INSIDE!), with plenty of ample parking. Inside, you'll find new and used records, tapes, and cds. (I mean, of course!) The walls are covered with interesting new releases and rare recordings. The bins are a joy to peruse, especially the 45s. Larger musicians have their own tabs, otherwise it is alphabetical. You'll find much here that you'll love, but it will also be hard to stay on budget. Luckily, they have a frequent buyer card (in $5 increments). Our favorite part is digging through the 45s. It's a trip down memory lane, with laughter galore. I cannot believe the 80s fashion that ended up on record sleeves (I know, I wore it myself, but not in such a...memorable way). The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The music playing is especially interesting. And, although we haven't done it yet, they do purchase music from customers (hence the enormous selection of records for us to discover treasures within!). Previously, my favorite record store was Electric Fetus in Minneapolis. This has definitely replaced it, both for warmth and service. Go!

'Frogs', my favorite animal has a movie starring Sam Elliot for $2.99? Yes please. The employee was pretty laid back but also helpful. We were greeted when we came in and asked us if we needed anything. When checking out he told us about their stamp program where get a stamp every $5 you spend and eventually get something. So glad we stopped and will be back to find more treasures.

Owned by one of the kindest, most conscientious music fans and female store owners in Michigan. An encounter with Heather Frarey is like talking to an old freind from high school. She is personable and connects on every level. She along with her pal Bill, stocks this store with so much love and charm. But don't let it fool you. She's a rocker. A punk. An adult contemporary lover. That's the BEST kind of fan. The store grows by leaps and bounds yearly. And her VERY affordable USED selections are unmatched by other records stores. They are all in excellent condition. Nothing she wouldn't own for herself. I have bought and sold many records at the Record Lounge. Always at a fair price. Let me say that again: She BUYS used records at a great price. By the dozens or hundreds. That fact is, I could never spend ENOUGH time there on my visits. If you like them on FB you will see almost daily videos of new arrivals. They are very good at responding to their messages and will welcome you with great service. Even BETTER, she sells stereos. Not the random new stuff but has a great array of SOLID older units restored and cared for by a great friend of hers. It's more than you'd expect from an independent. But THAT is the reason why she succeeds. The store has more employees than I have met yet, but I plan for a reunion soon. So I will be in to scour the Monkees records, talk about ELO and come home with more than I went in for and THAT is the hallmark of a great business and record store.
