The service was like I was sitting at a table by myself and I had my own waitress and then the food all of our food came out together within about two minutes and that was just because they had to go back to the kitchen to grab another tray of food. Service was great: food was good. Salads with fresh greens and no iceberg a plus. Wine list was not so great. Need some better quality upper shelf wines. The big disappointment was the bar area. Traveling solo I prefer to eat at the bar and give the bartenders direct tips. This place had a bar, but there was no seating at the bar and the separate section that did have seating faced into a storage area and a wall. It felt like I was eating in a dismal broom closet. This place desperately needs to remodel and reconfigure their bar area. I would eat there again, but I would get a table. Ok, pandemic can kiss my......grits, Family get together for a wedding. Wedding party part of family was doing there thing, Sotheby's rest of us, all12 of us, headed off to Johnny T's. Menu showed a lot of everything, so we figured there'd be something for everyone. Man! Was THAT an understatement! Now, one might think, with such a wide variety of stuff on the menu, a lot would be frozen, or canned, or taste like the high school cafeteria food. No no no NO! We ordered pretty much from every section of the menu. Burgers, fish, Italian, tacos. Everyone was super happy with their selections. Sorry, no pics, and since this all happened a week prior, I'm not gonna try to recall what anyone had. With the exception of a few items. Burgers! Made with locally sourced meat. Lean and absolutely great taste. Same for the chicken, locally sourced and I'm told it, too,was very good. As I said, everyone raved about their dinner. Only issue, if you want to be silly, was the size of the portions for dessert. Super-sized slice of German chocolate PIE! Not cake, PIE! That's my kind of dessert. Fresh made cheesecake that my daughter-in-law ordered, thinking she'd split a piece with my son. Two pieces on one plate! Before and after, some local craft beers and a cocktail and a pitcher of Sangria during dinner.All very very good. Likelihood of ever being in Hillsdale again. Not too likely, however, This is a Definite YES to eat again. So, if you ever are in that area, want some great food and beverages, and great service (Ramona!) stop at Johnny T's! Went back to have my favorite COUNTRY meal out (so wife didn't have to prepare at home just for me) of liver with onions. Portion were big (brought 1 piece of meat home), meat was fork cut able tender, bacon was done and fork cut able tender too, the gravy on the mashed potatoes was in sync with the meats and the rolls were dense along with being favorable. Service was spot on, with just the right amount of attention without being on top of the customers while they were consuming their meals. What a surprise!! Hillsdale has an Amazing restaurant!! My family has a cottage/guest house out here. We haven't been out to many restaurants in the area so we were surprised by this place! Romama (i hope i spelled her name right) she was amazing! I got a mushroom wrap, it was better than expected. My bf got Jamaican Jerk Chicken and he said it was definitely in the top 5 of the best he has ever had. Not sure where they got the jerk sause but its the best ive had! His mom got the smoked salmon and she said it was good too. Definitely no big complaints about our meal. We just wish we would have known about this place sooner! We will be back soon! Hopefully we will get Romona as our waitress! She was so bubbly and we loved our visit, so cozy! It looks like an older building and it has stained glass inside. Was staying in the area and found this place online. The building is older and has carpet throughout, so a few of us got runny noses or itchy eyes, but nothing major. Their food selection was very diverse and they offered a bit of everything. People in our party had wraps, burritos, spaghetti, and salads. Everything was good and came out hot. The service was not bad either. However, they were very busy, so there were a few spans no one stopped at out table, but nothing terrible. I would recommend! read more

Was in the Hillsdale area and after reading reviews decided to give Johnny T's Bistro a try. It's a bit off the beaten path, so the large sign on Broad St. at the intersection of South St. ensured that I would make it there. Johnny T's has a nicely varied selection on its menu. I enjoy barbecue and a good Reuben sandwich, so Reuben's Reuben sounded interesting - a Reuben sandwich made with smoked corned beef. It was delicious and I'd highly recommend it. The atmosphere was cozy, the wait service was attentive and the prices reasonable. If you're in Hillsdale, give Johnny T's Bistro a try. You won't be disappointed! read more

Party of two went to Johnny T's for lunch. We had a hard time deciding on what to eat as everything on the menu looked good! We were served some amazing soft warm rolls and butter while we waited for our food. We ended up with a bbq bacon burger and a salad with dried cherries, feta and caramelized walnuts. I don't think the dinner I ordered carry out would have ever been served as it was in the dining room. We have always been pleased when we have eaten here. In fact it was the first restaurant we chose after the year's quarantine to have a birthday dinner. However, after a long hot day of working in the yard I was too tired to go out and ordered carry out this week. It was extremely disappointing. I ordered the two chicken breasts breaded. When I opened the container I found two pieces of chicken that looked like they were one small breast sliced down the middle to make two. One of the pieces was so dark brown, overcooked and dry that it was inedible. It was less than a half inch thick and didn't even have much of a shape! The broccoli that came with it was plentiful but all yellow at the tops. If I'd been in the restaurant I would have sent it back. Being so hot and tired I ate what was decent and did not bother to call to complain. I was too tired to make another trip out anyway. I gave it two stars only because it was ready on time and the baked potato and few bites that were edible on the other tiny breast were good. read more

I'm not one to ever order steak salads but my boyfriends mom told me Johnny T's steak salad is the best she's had around these parts so I decided to order one. I told them no onion and apparently they thought I said add onion. I can't believe this tiny salad costs $12.72. I can buy a better steak for this price. I don't know how people sleep at night charging almost $13 for a salad. Even if steak is on it. I will never buy another salad from them and it's unfortunate. The service was fast and friendly tho, next time I'll order a mini tossed salad maybe and be able to handle payin that much for food. Run down old restaurant, mismatched room decor. We sat in a room that was apparently being read decorated but the lighting was bright like we were sitting in the kitchen. Young staff, some had uniforms, some staff in street clothes, including gym shorts. Way overrated and way overpriced. And if it's not even that good. Their sandwiches are small with scrap portions for meat and come with chips. At that price I expect more than a dinner type of meals. This place has a reputation based on what it used to be but certainly not what it is today find somewhere else to eat. read more

Overall pretty damn good! The beer list could have used some more Michigan beers but other than that the service was awesome, food was good and the Spartan game was on! My steak was a little tough (sirloin) but cooked perfectly, the scallops were seasoned and cooked well, beef and noodles were bomb as was the herders pie. The wedge salad was good as was the homemade bread they brought out with it. Dad had a free dessert for his birthday that looked delish. Shrimp stir fry was very tasty. It was a bit on the pricey side at $14 dollars, but it was very good. My server, Elizabeth, was very friendly and attentive despite being busy during the lunch rush. Good food, not frozen reheated food (if it is then its a great job). Nice dining area great kids menu my boys loved their hamburger and spaghetti. Food is all good/above average to excellent. Medium service, sometimes slower but never speedy. Only complaint I have is I have a sensitivity to perfume and heavy odors, and they seems to always have a heavily scented candle in the lobby as you enter and then a jumbo 4 wick mega candle burning in the main area of the restaurant as well. Honestly makes me a bit nauseous and causes hesitation to return, unrelated to the food. Recommended especially if you don't mind heavy candle smells. read more
