Stopped here for drinks before dinner. We walked in around 5:00 and no one was there, and usually that tells me to leave. But the bar area was very cool, plus they had a side lounge area with a fireplace and comfy chairs, so we decided to stay. Glad we did! I started with a Margarita, which was very good, then had a Barrel-Aged Old Fashioned also very good. Others in our group ordered the Main Squeeze and absolutely loved them. They also have a great outdoor seating area with a fire pit, which would be a perfect spot on a cool evening. As soon as you enter the doors you are greeted, the service is kind all around. The drinks are a great price on happy hour and they have a great white and red wine on the menu to pair with the food. The Mac and cheese was very watery and lacked flavor, the tacos were good but not enough to want to order again, the goat cheese Balls were crisp, sweet and tasty. What an amazing experience it was dinning st St. John's Meeting Place. I hate that it took me so long to check it out. Meeting Place was established in 2014. The premise is to offer a more casual atmosphere than the formal St John's restaurant that is attached. The mission had been achieved! The decor of this place is basic, but sexy at the same time. Think modern with sophistication. I love the simplicity of the ambience. We were the first ones to arrive at this spot. We were greeted by the hostess and seated promptly. Our server was nothing short of amazing! He had a great personality and had no problems describing dishes and making recommendations! There is no advertisement about their Happy Hour, but he let us know that certain appetizers were discounted . The happy hour is Monday- Friday from 5-7pm. We tried the truffle fries, fried goat cheese, and the roasted pork belly. In addition to having the appetizers we were also given complimentary bread and butter. I don't eat pork so I did not try the pork belly, but when I tell you the other items were tasty! I do have to give a special mention to the butter! It is made in house and is something special!! I also did order a winter sangria off the happy hour menu. In addition to the above starters se had two entrees. While they were good, I think I like the small bites more. I came here with some of my coworkers. The staff was really helpful in helping us decide what we wanted to have to drink and eat. Everyone was happy with what they had based on the waiter's recommendation. I had the pork belly fried rice, which was absolutely delicious, though the portion size was much smaller than I expected, particularly for a "rice" dish. I wish I'd had more of it, but overal if it was very good. Some of my coworkers had the steak which was well cooked and juicy, though we all commented that it was little bit strange that it was pre-cut for them. None of us had see that before. Superior food, impeccable service, and comfortable environment make St. John's Meeting Place one of Chattanooga's best dining experiences. A last-minute decision led us to try to get a table on a Friday night. Surprisingly, we did. Parking can be challenging, but it is well worth the effort. Apparently, the lot next door is for the renters who live above in what was the old St. John Hotel. One of the waiters said you shouldn't get towed to park there, but out of one thousand patrons I would be the one with the missing car. Try parking on King Street in the back or along Market Street in the front. The interior is different, with large mirrors along the walls, giving the space a larger feel. The quickest way for me to go on a diet is to see myself shoveling food in my fat face, but overall, it is a pleasant spot with high ceilings and an exposed kitchen near the back. Beyond the kitchen, there are stairs leading to a bar area ideal for private gatherings and the like. Like its parent restaurant St. John's next door, these stairs would most probably have led to the upper rooms of the old hotel. Friday night, as we learned, in spaghetti night, which is what my wife ordered. I wasn't feeling the spaghetti, so I went with the duck à l'orange. As an appetizer, we chose the pork belly, served with grits, frisée salad (a chicory plant, Mr. Google says), and chipotle cream. In truth, we should have ordered one each, as it was good. My wife's portion was large and tasty. My duck was hot, fork tender, and very satisfying. The wait staff were friendly and keenly attentive. A half glass of ice water doesn't last long. It is a simple thing, but one that is becoming increasingly hard to accomplish in many spots. Please give St. John's Meeting Place a try! read more

Meeting place was a really good vibe. The food is really good, and the environment is more of a date like setting or something intimate with close friends versus just a bunch of people trying to meet up and have some beer. So just keep that in mind if you are going to go, it's not for you and 20 of your friends to watch a game. It's very big, because there's a downstairs in an upstairs area. It's kind of dimly lit but it's still illuminated enough for you to be comfortable. I knew it was going to be a decent experience when I came in and they were playing hip hop, which maybe wasn't the intention, but it made me feel right at home lol. I got some appetizers, I wasn't super hungry, but I got the pork belly, and the lobster roll. The lobster rolls were three mini rolls, could have been more, but that was what they were. They were really good though. But the pork belly was great, is one big piece of pork square and it was marinated in season super well. When I go back? I absolutely would. I had a really good experience. I enjoyed it, and a customer service was really really good. Next time I'm in the area, it will be a consideration. read more

First time here. Heard allot about this place and my son thought they would bring us here for a nice dinner. We reserved ahead on a Friday. Good thing. It is a very small place and was full the entire time we were there. The prior reviews were good, but the menu changes all the time. So they may not have some of the plates people had written about during their visit. We started with appetizers. The fried goat cheese and the fries. Both were good and just enough for 4 adults. We then ordered the mains. We got the duck, Fried rice, NY Strip and the spaghetti and meat balls (Friday special). The duck was nice and tasty. Lots of flavors and just the right amount of sides. The fried rice was nothing special. Just like ordinary fried rice, just with an egg and very little rice. Good but I will order something else next time. The pork belly was OK. I've never had it, so I can not make a real good comparison. The spaghetti and meatballs were good. Good flavor. Good amout. The sauce was pretty good also. In all, this place was really nice for a date. The food was good. The service was top-notch. Parking is just pure luck, I think. I can recommend this place. So my bestie loves this place, and I was hungry so stopped here for a bite on the way to Nashville. It was just okay for me. I was there during Happy hour so I got to capitalize on drink and food specials. Even though I sat upstairs, it was really noisy from the live music coming from downstairs. I tried their Sangria which was decent but forgettable. The goat cheese fritters oddly were missing the taste of goat cheese. I tried a bite of their Mac and cheese and that was just okay for me. I'm not sure what cheeses were used but I didn't care for the combo. The truffle fries were decent but needed more truffle. And they only came with ketchup. They should be served with some kind of truffle aioli. The seared tuna didn't taste all that fresh or good for that matter. The shrimp bun was the best thing I had of the night. It was small but had really nice flavors, a type of mayonnaise sauce inside like a lobster roll. Atmosphere was nice but almost too dark. But the music really made it hard for easy conversation. I've been here so many times and yet every new experience is something bright and seasonal with a local touch of the finest care and flavor. I legit can take anyone here and they are blown away by every dish and desert. Being a former employee I know just how much care goes into this kitchen and the plates that come out of it. The last time we were there (a few months ago), the food and service were terrific. The place was packed as well. This time, we were the only table when we arrived at 7:15 pm and only two other tables came in the whole time we were there. If everyone else has experiences like we did, I'm guessing this would explain the dead restaurant. First, our waiter was extremely slow (especially since we were the only table at the time) and paid very little attention to details. He also seemed to want to be anywhere else than waiting on our table of four adults. Our drinks arrived with barely any ice and after the appetizers somehow. When dinner was delivered they had no idea who had ordered what. I had several questions about gluten and he gave half hearted answers like "I think the trout is gluten free" when asked what I could eat and then had to be pressed to please double check with the chef. Finally, after we had eaten and paid, and were about to leave, a very drunk homeless man wandered into the restaurant and spit coffee all over us while panhandling in the restaurant. Again, there was only one other table at this point and this should have been extremely noticeable to the restaurant staff. After about 5 minutes, we agreed to buy him dinner and he sat down at the next table to wait and continued talking (or slurring) indescribably. After another 5 plus minutes of trying to get the waiters attention, my husband finally had to get up and approach him. We ordered the man a dinner and paid for it and were then able to leave, at least 10 minutes after we started trying to leave. I am grateful for a chance to help someone who is hungry, but it was inexcusable for the staff, especially on a night with so few diners, to allow this to happen IN the restaurant without intervening. We should have had great service being one of only a couple of tables and instead had very poor service. We definitely won't be back, which is a shame considering their incredible food. read more

Don't know what they want to be. Lobster roll was a raw onion roll - zero lobster. Fried goat cheese tasted nothing like goat cheese. Tartar ok - frozen lard on top. I don't know why it has taken us so long to make it to St. John's Meeting Place! So many restaurants, so little time. Whatever, we will definitely be back. We arrived on a Saturday around 5:30pm without reservations. There was one other table occupied. They seated us at a table right by the door in front of the window. This was fine by me, because the rest of the room was pretty dark and I knew it would be challenging to take photos deeper inside the restaurant. Turns out it was challenging by the window too, the sun was just starting to stream in the window and reflect off of all the black surfaces. Our server, Jeremy, arrived shortly and took our drink orders (wine) and a small plates order - ceviche. We decided that ceviche would be easy to share. The wine was good as was the ceviche. It had an interesting flavor, more earthy and less acidic than what I'm used to. I asked Jeremy and he said it was the miso vinaigrette. Really nice. He then brought us bread with sorghum butter. It took every once of will power not to sneak that bowl of butter into my purse. It was so good! Then our salmon arrived. We both ordered the salmon with mixed grains, butternut cream and Brussels sprouts. I have ate a lot of salmon, a whole lot of salmon, and this was by far the best most perfectly cooked salmon that I have ever eaten. The skin was so crispy and the salmon itself was so moist and cooked perfectly. I was singing it's praises to Jeremy and he gave me a few tips on how to cook mine at home. We didn't have any room for dessert, but were presented with a small sorbet (I think, maybe grape?) to share. An absolutely wonderful dinner, great service (thanks, Jeremy!) This place was so much fun and such a great place for small plates and drinks! We had the carafe of winter sangria that was delightful and had a fun cranberry and cinnamon taste to it. Our favorites were definitely the shrimp rolls, cheese toast, and brussel sprouts. Thanks to a series of locals suggesting we try this place we had what was probably the best meal of our trip to Chattanooga at SJMP, and that's saying a lot because I feel like all we did was eat! This little gem was only a short walk from the Read House (and a well needed one after we stuffed our faces). We were greeted with a smile by our server Graham who explained that the scallop dish my husband had heard all about was sadly no longer an option as they have a rotating seasonal menu. He made some suggestions on what to try based on what they may not have next time we visit (FYI the burger is a staple so skip it unless you're craving one as it is sure to be amazing). My husband, who wasn't super hungry decided on the fried rice and I opted for the chicken with gnocchi, squash Brussels sprouts, bacon, hazelnuts and an apple cider buere blanc sauce. Graham then suggested a wine that would pair better than the one I picked with the dish, not in an annoying 'you're an idiot' way but in the way a good friend might. It's important to note the wine he suggested was not more than the one I selected so this wasn't just an up-sell, it was the sign of a truly dedicated waiter who wanted the food and wine pairing to be optimal. let me start the review of the food by saying the chef is an absolute master of balance. The chicken had the perfect crunch and salt on the skin, the sauce had just the right acidity to balance the sprouts and the gnocchi was just the right weight. Not heavy and paste like. My husband said he wasn't honestly expecting much from fried rice but he couldn't stop talking about the balance of flavors also. His favorite part was the fried egg on top which oozed into the rice in just the right way. The whole meal was put together by someone who absolutely understands the balance of salt and acid. While we were stuffed at this point we didn't want to miss what desert in this place could be like so we ordered the fried apple pies with maple almond ice cream. Again it was a perfect balance of sweet and crunch that made you want to lick the plate. A true gem in the heart of Chattanooga. Do not pass this place up! read more

Had a wonderful dinner here last Saturday night. From the fancy-casual atmosphere to the delicious food to the impeccable service, my meal was worth every dollar. The Meeting Place is the younger sibling of the very upscale St. John's restaurant. Being so, the food is still amazing, but the atmosphere has a bit of a laid back feel, even though people are still wearing dresses and button-downs. I even saw multiple sports coats throughout. The medium-tinted lighting combined with the casual-yet-fancy ambiance and perfect background music only further supported the greatness of the food. For an appetizer, my friend and I ordered the Korean bbq pork slider, and they were incredible. the warm, fluffy roll combined with the salty pork to create a truly great slider. For my meal, I ordered the chicken breast, gnocci, and squash dinner. The chicken was moist and seasoned, the sauce was perfection, and the squash was the best I've ever had--it was a real WOW. My friend ordered the fried rice, which again, was incredible. I'd definitely recommend both of these meals again. Finally, for dessert, we ordered the triple layer chocolate cake. It was the perfect way to end a great meal (and the presentation was almost as good as it tasted). The service was friendly, helpful, and attentive. It was obvious that the staff was all well trained to handle rough situations, such as our dinners taking an hour and a half to come out of the kitchen, which the waiter made up for by bringing loaves of flavorful and moist potato bread. My cousin and I both had the steak and agreed it was the best we had in a long time, cooked perfectly and tender enough to cut with a fork. Really, what can you say about Meeting Place that hasn't already been said? It's really really good. Met up with fellow Yelper Lisa M and we had a wonderful early dinner for Restaurant Week. While we didn't eat from the special menu for Restaurant Week, we did partake of some other specials. We were there early enough to get some Happy Hour specials. A carafe of their Summer Sangria, which was a Rose' based sangria. Very light and refreshing, especially since it was a very hot day. We started out sharing a cheese plate. Just a small three cheese plate but the cheeses were delicious. I don't even need any crackers or any bread with it, just the cheese by itself is fantastic. For my dinner I ordered the Mexican Street Corn and a pork cheek tostada. Both were great, but I guess I didn't really think about the corn would most likely be on the cob, which it was. I was meeting this Yelper for the first time, place Meeting Place is kinda swanky, casual swank, but still. Of course, it came on the cob, so I asked for a knife to cut it off the cob. That was a bit labor intensive but the corn was good. The tostada was very good. The right amount of subtle heat. Lots of delicious meat, very tender. For dessert I ordered the cannoli with a sheep's cheese and berry filling. The sheep's cheese is very tart and a strong flavor that I really liked. The berries that were folded in gave it another level of tartness plus sweetness. It was unlike anything I've had before and it was super good. Our server was very sweet and attentive. Turns out it was his first night there and he was eager to make sure we had a great dining experience. Everything was awesome. For those who think Chattanooga is just for Krystal burgers, RC Cola and moon pies think again. St Johns is a restaurant that would be 5 star in Nashville, LA and even NYC. Set in what looks to be an old bank this place is without question one of the best meals we have had for a long time. Let's break it down: Atmosphere 5 stars: this two level open floor plan had all the elegance you expect from a white table cloth restaurant. The bar is small but high end. We loved the vibe and elegance in a non-intimidating environment. Service 5 stars: from the host, to the bartender to the server, we had no complaints. The bartender educated us in the finer points of the drinks we ordered including a lesson on drinks from Spain. Our server was good, not great but did not take away from the experience so I will give a 5 star (probably would be 4.5) Food 5 stars: this is where they close the deal. I had the chicken. Usually it's not the entree one gets at a white table cloth establishment however this chicken was perfect. The gnocchi was amazing and the sauce a perfect complement. My wife had the trout and I'll simply just say she said it was the best meal she has had in a long time. Value 5 stars: Our meal, including drinks was $120. In Nashville this would have been $170. Came here with a large group for a 30th birthday party. Due to the size of our group we had reservations upstairs with a limited menu that was chosen. For appetizers we had a cheese plate, gulf shrimp rolls, and goat cheese fritters. The cheese fritters were AMAZING! The mix of savory with the sweet honey drizzle was so good! I do not like shrimp, but my friends said the rolls were really good too. For drinks I tried the "KiKi, do you love me?," Spring Dion, and another one where I cannot remember the name. The food and drink menu changes at least seasonally if not more as the current menu online does not match what we had this past weekend. All of the cocktails were really good, although the second time I got the spring dion it was sweeter (likely more simple syrup) so it wasn't quite as refreshing. For food I ordered the beet salad and vegan goods. The beet salad was so good with a great blend of flavors, I was not very impressed with the vegan goods dish. The sweet potato au gratin seemed to be made with coconut milk and the coconut taste was overpowering (and I like coconut!). The only downside to the whole night was that it was abnormally warm. Once they saw multiple people fanning themselves with the menus they turned on the AC. I would definitely come back for another special occasion or maybe a date night. read more

This may be the meeting place of st john, still expect a fairly upscale place. When you walk in you feel very comfortable with unique decor on the walls and promt service of very knowledgeable staff. Food: lots of unique small plate options that are quite affordable vs my expectations.
