I played this course quite a bit 15 years ago, but havent played it since until this week.. I was really hesitant to go based on all the negative reviews. Green fees were $85 (with a cart) for 18. Range balls (large) was $15. As others have noted, the course is not nearly as pristine as it was once (no question it has gone downhill) it was still a very good experience. The cart paths were fine, 16 of the greens were fine, the tee boxes were fine too. Some of the traps needed to be edged, as the bermuda was creeping into the sand around the edges, which looks pretty sloppy. All in all, above average layout with "good enough" condition for the price point. Don't let the horros stories scare you away. I will repeat. read more

Course was in good condition on Thanksgiving 2025 weekend except there were many areas where leaves had not been blown off fairways which led to many lost or invisible balls. Course is extremely hilly and there were many cart path only areas which led to a lot of up hill walking which is hard for us seniors. Topography, traps, and hazards make for a difficult course with high slope ratings. Greens were true and not difficult. It was also 43 degree cold...brrr. read more

I called ahead of time and was told the driving range sold balls until 6:30 PM on Monday and closed at 7 PM. I drove 40 minutes to get there and then they said actually we close at 4:30 on Monday. I had to spend over an hour driving back to rush-hour traffic because somebody told me the wrong thing. Two hours of my life wasted, and when I called back Reed said "I don't know what to tell you" and would do nothing about it. read more

No major issues, it's still early in the season. The golf cars need some TLC, the parking brakes are scratchy at best. I've been there twice in 3 months and we had the same issue. The lunch specials are reasonably priced. It's a little slow as well, plan on a 4 1/2 hour round for sure. read more

The staff is very friendly and helpful; unlike the The staff at the security shack which could use some training in customer service and tact. The grounds at the country club are beautifully maintained; but it would be nice if they fixed the AC in the lower office and the mold on the walls in the kids golf office. Mr. Andreas is a fantastic, caring and knowledgeable instructor. I wish they would provide him with a better classroom area. With the amount of children sitting in that little room with no AC and moldy walls, it makes for a very unhealthy environments for the kiddos. It's sad. I grew up playing this course in high school and college. Loved it. It was always a course my friend and I would play when we wanted a nice course. I don't know who the management is now but it's pretty clear they do not care about the course like the people who have been playing it for years. Not only has the course gone to crap the prices of the course are ridiculous. Please save yourself the frustration and go play somewhere else. RiverPines, Bears Best, Echelon..... On top of this when you call to book a tee time they now send you to some out of the country call center.... These people are hard to understand. The first time I think I had to read my credit card off 6 times. It's just a frustrating process. If this place was actually worth it ok but how terrible this place has gotten it's just a cherry on top of it all.... If you look at my profile this is my first review. I don't like leaving reviews like this but this place has gotten so bad and expensive it made me make a profile.... I am a 5 handicap so I do know about golf. This review has nothing to do with the greens being punched recently, but that also reminds me. They hardly discount the course when it's punched... greedy management. St. Marlo's is a nice course. I've been playing there on and off since it was built in the 80's. The people working there are personable, especially the rangers. Unfortunately my last two rounds there had a common problem. They were both declared cart path only on days when there was absolutely no justification for it. It's a tough course to play CPO for older players like myself. I was told on both occasions that it had rained the night before. Perhaps the CPO decision was justifiably made early in the morning, but by afternoon it was in the low 90's and dry as bone. I played 18 holes and didn't encounter a single moist spot on any fairway. I spoke to several employees about it and was told that the head groundskeeper answers to nobody, not even the club manager when it comes to CPO decisions. I understand the need to balance the long term care of the course with the needs of the players on any given day. The keyword there is "balance." The interest of the groundskeeper is understandably focused solely on the course. They need someone with a concern for the playing experience to be part of the CPO decision. It was clear that on the day in question (8/16/22) no one cared enough to go back out on the course to see if cart path only was still appropriate later in the day. read more

Played at St Marlo a weeks ago for the first times in a few years. I live in the city now so it can be a hike to get there. Really missed the course so I was really excited to get out there. The club house is nice and they have a well stocked pro shop. The two employees at the bag drop off were real polite and welcoming. The man in the pro shop was slightly rude and made me feel like I was being rushed. I was there late afternoon and noticed there were plenty open tee times online so I figured they weren't busy. I got done with the first hole pretty quickly after that it was like a waiting game. I wanted to play through but I could tell there was a few groups in front of the group in front of me so I didn't want to skip the holes and possibly wait even more . I tried calling the club house to get in touch with someone about it but no one answered. Once I got to the 8th hole it had been about 2.5 hours that went by so I decided to call it a day. I went to the club house hoping I can explain what happened and if I could maybe get a rain check or something for Atleast 9 holes but it was locked and no one came to the door. So I went to the club drop off area and spoke to one of the gentlemen there and he mentioned to call the next day and talk to someone and they will more than likely reimburse me. So the next day I called up there and the club pro basically told me there was nothing they could do and it was my fault I didn't let them know the pace of play was bad at the time. I'm sorry but St. Marlo is a nice establishment and it's definitely not the cheapest course, I would think there should be some understanding/care to my situation. But I definitely did not feel that way. The course was in good condition. All the greens were rolling sweet. Besides the first hole most of the tee boxes needed some love though. read more

After almost 10 years, it's time for a review update for St. Marlo Country Club in Duluth. I believe everything in my original review dated 10/3/2010 still holds true to this day, but I think a more in-depth review is in order. I've always liked St. Marlo. I think it's one of the more scenic public courses in metro Atlanta. It's a country club inside a gated subdivision, so it does exude some private club flair. A lot of impressive-looking mansions line the course. You can book tee times for St. Marlo online directly through St. Marlo's website (www.stmarlo.com) as well as GolfNow and TeeOff.com. The base price for tee times across the three platforms are generally the same. However, GolfNow and TeeOff.com also offer special limited tee times (e.g. Hot Deals or Deal Times) at a discounted rate. The last time I played here, I found it best to book our group's tee time using TeeOff.com. There were no booking, convenience, or other fees tacked on and I didn't have to pay anything up front. We simply paid at the pro shop. Our Saturday morning round cost $71.68 per golfer ($66.99 + $4.69 tax). For the quality of the course and amenities, I thought it was a fair price. St. Marlo's alluring design should come as no surprise because its architect is Denis Griffiths who designed other beautiful Georgia courses like the Chateau and Woodlands courses at Chateau Elan, Chestatee in Dawsonville, Chicopee Woods in Gainesville, Georgia National in McDonough, RiverPines in Alpharetta, The Creek at Hard Labor State Park in Rutledge, and The Georgia Club in Statham. The course is par-72 has 4 sets of tees (gold, blue, white, red) which can be mixed for a total of 7 different course yardages/ratings/slopes for men and 5 for women. From the tips, the course comes in at just under 7,000 yards at 6,923 yards with a rating/slope of 73.7/140. I've always played from the white tees where the course measures 6,123 yards with a 69.1/123 rating/slope. Personally, I've always found the course to be difficult, but I don't think it's challenging enough to keep beginners or casual golfers away as long as they're cognizant of their pace of play. Pace of play, by the way, I think is good. On a busy Saturday morning stacked with tee times, our threesome was able to finish in under 4.5 hours. We regularly crossed paths with a ranger throughout our round. St. Marlo is a course that winds and weaves its way throughout a dense residential subdivision. As big as the houses are, there's not a whole lot of space in between them. A lot of fairways are lined with rows of tall, multistory houses that are thinly guarded by trees. If you're a walker, I'd think twice before walking a round here because some of the walks between green to next tee can be rather long (e.g. curved uphill cart paths, crossing subdivision roads, etc.). The golf carts are fairly standard E-Z-GO electric carts. They have coolers, sand for your divots, and USB ports (bring your own cable). The carts were in good condition the last time I played. The carts have pin sheets and the starter will place a card with your tee time, the day's cart rule (e.g. 90 degrees, cart path only), pin position, and restroom door code in your cart. Men's and women's restrooms are located at the 6th tee and in between the 14th green and 15th tee. The golf course is hilly, but not significantly more so than your typical Georgia course. There are plenty of strategically-placed bunkers and lots of water to deal with (there are at least a half-dozen ponds on the course). I think the front nine has more scenic holes than the back. They include No. 3, a par-3 over water with a small waterfall next to the green, and Nos. 6 (par-3) and 7 (par-4) whose tee shots play over the same body of water. You'll have to place your drive carefully on No. 7 as the hole essentially makes a 90-degree turn to the left on the uphill approach. The approach on No. 9, a par-5, is interesting because of how drastically elevated the green is. It's almost as if you're hitting up to a green situated atop a cliff. What is this? Wicked 18 for the Super Nintendo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_Golf_Classics:_Wicked_18)? Seriously though, your irons and wedges have more loft than you might think so the green is certainly hittable in regulation by the average golfer so long as the shot is well-struck. St. Marlo has bentgrass greens and Bermuda grass fairways and tees. On average, the course has been in good shape the times I've played it. The tee boxes could use some work, but the fairways have always been fine for the most part. The greens, which are big, have always been smooth and in good to great condition (outside of aeration of course). The bunkers have been OK too. There's a driving range and two practice putting greens. The clubhouse is large and stately. Along with the pro shop, there's a bar and grill, and locker rooms (small). On the course, there's food and beverage cart service and ball washers at every tee. read more

This place is stellar. The carts, the club house, the pro shop, the staff and he course are all tip top and amazing. This is no slouch golf course. This is a challenging course yet forgiving, wide fairways if you can keep the ball in play. Personally I can't wait to come back to St Marlo's and play again. read more

Beautiful and well maintained course. Its a drive to get here if you aren't already north of Atlanta. Only gripe, the houses are sorta close to the links. I can throw a golf ball into many of the house along the links. The cart path took me in between 2 houses and across the neighborhood roads. One lady (prolly a resident) was irate cos we had to cross the road in our cart. Good course, but there are times I felt like I was intruding. read more

Golf is not fun. It was expensive, cart path only when it should be 90 degrees, no provision for handicapped players and too little water on the course. I felt very controlled by the overly strict observance by the staff to the rules. Granted, rules are very important, but to be constantly reminded of the rules by the staff became annoying. This is NOT a good course for a casual round! We were exhausted by the end of the round. The staff person behind the desk at the pro shop had a poor attitude. Honestly, I felt like we were in their way today. I would not return nor recommend St. Marlow's golf course. read more

Exceptionally nice people at the front and great clubhouse but the course definitely needs some work. The basic layout was fun and challenging. Never played here before, but the condition looks like they are having some cash flow issues. 1) Cart paths are frequently broken creating an exceptionally rough ride. 2) Lots of sand traps need a refresh, especially since there are so many of them on the course, often so hard that the ball would either bounce out or roll to the lowest point. 3) Many tee boxes are worn down and/or not level. I may be back if the rate is low enough, but hope to see more positive reviews from others in the future. read more

St. Marlo is a top notch, if somewhat expensive, golf course. The playing conditions are mostly excellent tee to green, and the course is quite challenging and scenic. - Greens are super smooth, contoured and fast. If you like your green-reading and putting skills, this is a course for you. I did notice a few bad patches on some greens but not many and mostly around the fringe. - Fairways are similarly in great shape. Good shots are rewarded mostly with good lies. There are a few places where the grass is a bit thin, producing unreasonably tight lies but not many. - Same with the bunkers. One was a bit hard-packed making it impossible to execute a proper sand shot (in fact the underlying material beneath the sand had ripped and come up right near my ball) but most were in good shape. - The design is quite challenging. Many fairways are tight and have out-of-bounds right near the edges (mostly, people's yards). I found accuracy off the tee to be at a premium here. - Water is in play on several holes and while it's scenic, it also demands your attention. I dropped a couple of balls in the water with shots that weren't that far off ideal. - The course has a lot of elevation change. In particular, you'll enjoy the 9th which is a short par 5 that plays really long because the green is perched on a mountain top. I think it's one of the most interesting holes of golf I've played. - St Marlo offers a course layout handbook which is great. I wish all courses had these. With it, there are no annoying surprises like creeks and such that you don't see until you get there to look for your ball. - The beverage cart came by a few times but was unfortunately absent for the better part of our back nine when I wanted a beverage. - The clubhouse and grounds are top tier. - You'll find guys (it's always guys) at the parking lot bag drop ready to whisk your bag into a cart. I suppose a lot of people like that service but I really could do without. I prefer to unload my bag and associated golf paraphernalia myself, preferably after having driven a cart to my parked car. Same thing when you're done. - The course restrooms have keypad locks on the doors, so if you are the sort that doesn't avail themselves of the trees, do remember the code the starter gives you. Overall, a great course and one I really enjoyed. I'd definitely play here again. read more

DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE!!! I have played 5 separate occasions and they have over booked the course every time. I waited on every hole for about 5-10 minutes before teeing off! Not to mention the cart path is completely jacked up! Every Tee Box is pretty much dirt! The service and staff members are all rude about 90 yrs old! They have no idea how to run a golf course. DO NOT PLAY HERE! You will regret paying $90 just to wait on every hole ! It's a complete joke !!! read more

St. Marlo is a very difficult course but is always in great condition when I have played it. It's in a really affluent neighborhood but is open to the public and is well worth the extra money if you want to play golf on course that's challenging and scenic. Greens are in great condition even in the winter time and this is always a course I am excited to visit. read more

Very strong offering of a golf course with much to offer. For a course that can be booked publicly, St Marlo is honestly a really great course. The course winds and leads into and across the neighborhood and will take you all around the residences. There are a lot of holes with nice houses and great scenery. The course itself is pretty challenging but can still accommodate golfers of all levels. The weather recently has been bad so I haven't been able to go out on a nice sunny day, on which I think this course would be a 5 with optimal weather conditions. Fairways, greens, and tee boxes are in good condition and the course was still enjoyable even after a rainy day with cart path only. The grill and clubhouse are great and the burger is solid. Definitely a course I'll play again. read more

I visited St Marlo for Easter brunch. The clubhouse is tastefully decorated and welcoming. The food was fabulous, and the service was even better. There's a gorgeous koi pond/waterfall located next to the putting green that shouldn't be missed. Though I didn't golf, the course is supposed to be the right mix of challenging yet fun, and is open to the public. Overall, I highly recommend St. Marlo's. read more

This isn't necessarily a four star course but I'm comfortable with that rating given the value for money. I scored a tee time for $29 at golfnow.com which is an incredible deal. I would rank the course slightly higher than my home course (Crooked Creek) mostly because it is prettier but below the likes of St. Ives and some of the other more expensive and exclusive fully private courses in the area. Nice track and beautiful lay out. Greens are Veeeeery slow. Even after two months of no rain in the Atlanta area they must over water these greens and we had a few long irons get plugged on the green from 150 and further out. Either need to let them dry out or maybe they recently punched the greens (no sign of it) and they're letting the grass grow longer and retain water. The cart paths are frustratingly old & I leveled so be prepared for spilled drinks and major bumps along the way since they have a 90* policy. Pluses....A fun & beautiful lay out of a track and nice fairways. Negatives...slow greens and a long bumpy ride. Somewhat standard for Atlanta area courses. Worth playing for sure otherwise. A top of the line country club where the golf play is quite expensive (unless you are able to get a good deal from GolfNow or any other golf reservation site). From the clubhouse where you can order food, check in and buy equipment to the cleaniness of the golf carts and the golf 'valet' service, you are getting the best of what St. Marlos is offering. The driving range is well marked out and has pins so you know what distances you are hitting them at. They have a distance chart available as well, as well as weather conditions posted (was helpful to know how hot it was out on the course). When you get your cart, the check in person puts in the time you are starting on the cart, and sends you off. The course conditions were very well maintained. Lawn was definitely cared after, and the greens were supersmooth. The putting area was quite fast too. The course was pretty challenging for me, (as i'm a newbie golfer) and there were a lot of areas that i struggled on, however it was definitely a course where good golfers played at. The few downsides to the course is that the food area is located on the 2nd floor., and the entrance to get to it is through a backdoor, dark hallway type of staircase. It didn't seem like you were going anywhere and it was very dingy looking. In addition to that, there were people on the course 'fishing' for golf balls in the woods or in the water wearing fisherman gear / boots. It was not very appealing to look at, nor was it safe, as i felt that they could have easily been hit by a ball, since they weren't really paying attention. On a more positive note though, the course was beautiful, and the houses that surrounded the course were amazing works of art. I would definitely go back to this course, however would not pay the amount of money that their typical green fees go for (over $75) read more

Not my favorite. Very expensive golf to stare at backs of rambling million dollar estate that either have, or have not kept up with HOA covenants. Food is not food. They really should find a different distributor. They rush the shit out of you and cram golfers in so tight, they run risk of golfers balls coming down on you from groups golfing behind hurrying to keep up. read more

Do not waste your time and money. Staffs include manager ignoring and rude attitude to the customers. The only answer you can expect from these staffs is "I don't know." Or "I don't care." Even there were apparent email confirmation, the answer from these staff was " I don't know and I don't care." Terrible service and maintenance. read more

This country club is beautiful and I heard the course is a bit challenging. So, if you are up for the challenge, you should consider this course. I went on a sweltering day and was invited for lunch. I enjoyed a delicious burger with their fresh fried potato chips. The burger was yummy, but was a bit overcooked. The potato chips were a great addition to the burger :) It was great eating lunch while overlooking a beautiful course (you can see people practicing). I'd recommend cooler weather to prevent a heat stroke ;) read more

Played this week on twilight, played better for the price. Proshop staff ok but not super friendly, but checked us in and got us on our way. Course in good shape, give the course a 4 and greens a 3. Didn't care running into home owners all over the course practicing in the late afternoon, happened on 3 holes where we had to wait for them to get off the greens so we could hit in. If you hit the ball with any distance this is not the course for you. Everything is a dogleg or super tight because they seemed the cram the course in between homes everywhere. For me everything was trying to guide a 5 wood or low iron off the tee box to a turn in the fairway with a long second shot in and that was playing from the blues. Even if had gone back to the gold it would still be general 250-270 max length you can hit the ball off the tees. read more

Course is in ok condition right now. The fairways are good, greens are still recovering from aerification, but the bunkers are really poor. They're about as hard as clay. You might feel like houses are close on some holes, but it wasn't much of an issue for me. If you can get a deal, then it's alright, but it's not worth the full price at the moment. There are other courses that are in much better shape that can be played for the same amount of money or less. read more
