The Montessori Children's House may be Whitby's crown jewel - from the moment my children enrolled (at around 2 years old) their worlds expanded, as they were offered control of choices that as parents we don't consistently have time to give them at home. From their toddler years and now on to pre-school and Kindergarten, I've had the joy of watching this newfound independence grow. Our family is excited for Whitby's bright future and our children's place in it.

I was a bit apprehensive at first because it was so much cheaper than the other private Pre-K schools we looked at but within the first few weeks we were impressed. The teachers were very engaged and my child, who is shy, took to the teachers right away. I loved that they would get homework and the arts and crafts they did were adorable. There were a lot of field trips and off-site events - awesome for kids. Security is very important here - buzzed in entry, visual recognition of caregiver before child can leave, etc. The class was very diverse. There were easily four or five bilingual children (Indian, Ukrainian, Spanish, Italian).

Our experience at Friends couldn't have been more wonderful. All of the teachers are kind, warm and nurturing. It's like handing your kids over to family. The 2's program is the perfect introduction to school for toddlers, the 3's is a great continuation of all the social and life skills being taught, and the 4's curriculum emphasizes preparing for kindergarten in an organic and age-appropriate way. In addition, because the school is so small, there's a real sense of community among the parents. We've made lifelong friends at Friends - the school really lives up to its name!

The director of the preschool, Sue, is one of the kindest, gentlest, most education-savvy people I've ever met. She is very down to earth and reads academic articles about preschool education on a regular basis. The families who are a part of this school are wonderful. I leave Loving Touch with a smile knowing that my child and all of the other children are happy and well taken care of. There isn't a better feeling in the world for a working parent than trusting the place your child is and knowing that they are happy. Loving touch is friendly, loving, professional, and has a home feel. They ensure communication and education. A wonderful engaging environment.
