This place puts the "neighbor" in "neighborhood" in the best way. Your meal is cooked by parish volunteers and delivered by parish school kids - if you live nearby chances are that you'll know many of the people here! St Seb's is a Westside classic church fish fry - the kind that used to be everywhere but is fast disappearing. It's family style, cheap, tasty, filling and there's even a salad bar! Literally everyone in walking distance seems to show up so come early or expect a wait to park or eat. Personally, I just can't do the MKE FFF (Milwaukee Friday Fish Fry if you're front out of state) because I worked a popular FF place in high school and it scarred me for life. I was quite happy with the salad bar and $3 beers and the Mister loves the fish. If you live nearby, cone in and hang with the neighbors. I visited St. Sebastian's for their fish fry last week at the recommendation of Mike M and Kelly R. Per their website http://saintsebastianonline.net/community-life/fish-fry/, the fish fry is available outside of the Lenten season, but some dates only offer carry-out, so you'll have to check the website to find out when dine-in is available. It seems the dine-in option is all-you-can-eat fried or baked cod for $9.75, while the carry-out fish fry is $8.75. I didn't want to wait in line and I live a 5-minute drive away, so I ordered my fish fry for carry-out. After standing in line for a few minutes to purchase my ticket, I learned that there is a separate place, through the doors and down the hall, where I purchase my carry-out fish fry. I was in the wrong line. Now you know. The dine-in option also includes a salad bar, per the online dine-in menu, but I can't tell you what it was in it. My carry-out order included 3 pieces of lightly battered fish (8 ounces per their carry-out menu), lightly battered shoe string fries, creamy cole slaw, rye bread, and tartar sauce. I also ordered a bowl of Shrimp Chowder for $2.50. The shrimp was tiny and looked like it came from a tin can. However, the chowder was seasoned nicely and had a nice flavor. I don't think I would order it again, though. I didn't care much for the fries, but the fish, cole slaw, and rye bread were great! The fish was perfectly cooked, so the inside was white and flake and the outisde was slightly crisp and not greasy. It's always nice to support a local chruch and school and see volunteers helping out while serving a decent fish fry and bringing families and neighbors together, awwwwwe. read more

The food was great, but I have a big gripe. I went with my mom. She ordered fried, I ordered baked. My baked plate was very large for one person, and I ate about half. I asked for a box and was told they "can't do that". I understand it's all you can eat and if I asked for seconds I would completely understand... but it was my first plate. I left at least half a plate of food to go in the trash, and was extremely displeased. A church of all organizations ought to value not wasting food, don't you think? Putting the "fry" in your "Friday!" Tucked away in the basement cafeteria, you will find a Friday Fish fry that can stand up against to any other in Milwaukee. The cod is fantastic! So firm, but so flaky, and with a nice light batter. And, it's all you can eat! Also included for your $10 is a salad bar, bread, french fries, and milk. The french fries might also be some of the best in town too!. Miller beers are $2, and "special" beers are $3. What a deal! Sadly, the St. Sebs Fish fry is only available the first Friday of the month, and only by takeout during Lent. Come early, because this place get packed! You can so get it take-out if you don't want to wait in line. Bear in mind that everyone here is a volunteer. From the cooks, to the cashiers, and of course, the fry kids! The students of St. Sebs pitch in to serve you and clean off the tables. It's great to see these kids enjoying the hard work. It's also fun meeting other customers at the communal-style tables. Absolutely love the St. Seb's fish fry. For around $10, you can enjoy all-you-can-eat fish, french fries, salad bar (including green salad, apple sauce, cole slaw, pickles, rye bread, and more), and water or milk. Beer and soda are available to purchase, as well, and a dessert table with home-made desserts for .75 cents gives you a nice end to the meal. I'm a fan of the fried cod myself, and always find the batter to be light and tasty, not greasy - yum. This is truly a neighborhood event, with church families and kids working the kitchen, service, and "front of the house." It really is a feel-good event, a place where the whole community comes together for a good meal. They post their schedule online - some weeks are carry-out online, some weeks you can eat in.
