My friend's baby also has tongue tie, but her pediatrician told her the only doctors who can fix that were in Reston or Georgetown, and she felt it was too far to take her newborn. I also feel like Dr. Murphy really treats all his patients as his own grandkids; I caught him calling himself Pop-Pop to my baby before he corrected himself. I feel like the doctors in this practice are appropriately concerned when something might be up (ie. my baby was a preemie, and Dr. Murphy was very vigilant about his jaundice and bilirubin levels, even making me go to the hospital to get a more accurate bilirubin check. It was kind of annoying but better safe than sorry.) However, I don't feel like they go overboard. I asked about vitamin D drops since I am breastfeeding, and Dr. Staats wasn't against them but also honestly said that they're fairly recent and that she didn't use them with her kids. I find they both like to explain and teach, and I appreciate that. I always have a lot of questions and never feel rushed or like they are annoyed to answer them. Truthfully, I don't think they're as vigilant as other doctors might be (ie. putting baby through tests to see how they're reaching milestones, insisting on the vitamin D drops if breastfeeding, etc.), but I feel like they're vigilant where it counts and otherwise just let kids grow. I prefer this. Lastly, it has a very home-y, family doctor feel. If that's what you're looking for, highly recommend. PS. They are upfront about not having an official lactation consultant on site, but I spoke to Dr. Staats about some of my difficulties and she correctly suspected mastitis and told me how to alleviate the pain. My OB even incorrectly thought it was thrush at first until I got the full-blown mastitis symptoms, but luckily I had Dr. Staat's advice to follow.

But it also means if you come down with something more urgent, there won't be evening or weekend hours. And of course, there's no in house lab, so you'll have to visit Quest or Labcorp if you need blood drawn. The location is convenient - basically at the intersection of 495 and Route 50.

Five years ago, I was diagnosed with pneumonia after chest xray but never heard back from that doctor despite repeated follow up. I'm OK with additional blood exam charge, but a $85 office charge is despicable! When I called their billing, the lady said it's for an office staff time to look at the report. So a report from Quest that summarizes the entire report with my healthy range will cost me $85 for someone to read. BS! I had my blood drawn 3 times and each time a $85 charge, very unethical! See picture where I boxed 2 of the 3 extra charges! (2stars off) In addition, I go in for a physical, my copay should be $30, but I get billed later by them for a 90ish bill. They nickel and dime you for every treatment/advice they provide. His advice for telling me to eat healthy foods and exercise cost $215, in addition to an office visit that cost $205. The office billed my insurance for approximately $1000!!!! just for a physical. Even though I have insurance, I still had to pay around $100 after my co pay. Either the billing was wrong or it's their way of gouging patients. If you don't have insurance, you'll be over charged as you can see. I reviewed my previous physcial with other INOVA Doctors and the charge amount was fair. I paid the co-pay and paid for the bloodwork. I will NOT go there again. Dr H is great, definitely not a knock on him but his supporting cast ruins the experience. When I called INOVA, their receptionist are nice and will work with you to schedule an appointment.
