Decent food but a little greasy. Very busy. Great for waffles. People seemed to like it and the food.

We went relatively earlier, so there was lots of space and our server was very perky. We ordered and got our food pretty quickly. I ordered the Two Eggs and 1 Choice which is as simple as it gets for breakfast - I got 2 sunny side up eggs, sausage, home fries and fruit with rye bread. This is a classic breakfast and quite tasty as it is. I love that the potatoes were like home fries (crispy and soft). It really hit the spot. My sister ordered the Lac Saint-Jean which has 2 eggs, 1 choice of meat (she got bacon), baked beans, cretons (traditional French-Canadian pork spread) and a blueberry pancake. This was super delicious too. If you have not had creton before, it is a must-try. It tastes good on it's on or have it on toast. Everything was made well and the blueberry pancake is huge! We had to pack it to go. Great breakfast/brunch spot if you are in the area, and it's got everything you want in one place. Love the bright colours of the restaurant and plentiful seating. Also a great spot if you plan on going shopping at Billings Bridge afterwards too. Lots of parking and great customer service too!

No line-ups. We weren't keen on sitting by the door due to the draft coming in. We were told we had to wait for a two-seater because they didn't want us to take up a four seat table. We're like wtf??? I can see this if you the hot new restaurant in town and huge demand, but quite literally there was four 4-seat tables sitting empty and no line-up. In any event, we stayed, sitting in some two-seater jammed in the corner. And then we ordered a breakfast. I'm a Ozempic user, so I don't eat much - I was going to take an egg, a piece of bacon, and a couple of potatoes from my wife's plate. Oh - can't do that. There's a $2 "sharing charge". Like, wtf? I'm done with this place and their stupid policies. The food is typical diner fair that you can get any diner, nothing special here.

So when we decided to come to Ottawa for a quick getaway, of course we had to pop in for some food. Our server couldn't possibly have been nicer or more friendly, and the vibe was exactly what I wanted it to be. We decided to share a Caesar Salad and a Philly Steak Poutine, the latter of which our server invented himself decades ago! Both dishes were phenomenal. The salad was hearty and rich, and the poutine was as decadent and cheesy as you'd hope. The meat was plentiful and tender, and the whole thing was just so delicious and well assembled. I'm very happy that Elgin Street Diner hasn't lost a step all these years later.

My sister and I came around 11:30am and put our names on the electronic waitlist. We're a party of 2 and was about 9th in line with an approximate wait time of 60 minutes. While waiting, we decided to walk to Chinatown to explore. I would say that 60 mins is common and expected for most brunch places in every city. I'm from Toronto and this is the same there. I was able to track the waitlist on my phone easily and started heading back when we were 4th in line. The menu is quite limited, but they had all of the classic brunch items available, plus Shashuka. I wasn't feeling too hungry by the time we sat down, so I opted for the mushroom and cheese omelet with an espresso salted honey latte on the side. My sister got the classic breakfast. The latte was quite on the bitter side, but I'm okay with that. The omelet was cheesy, delicious and didn't feel too heavy. The potatoes were crispy as well. I enjoyed my meal. Overall, a solid brunch spot.

Got the Classic Breakfast (15), which is your typical toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, potato brunch. Everything was just decent. It's a lot of food and I definitely felt I got my money's worth portion wise. Great atmosphere but be ready for a long waittime!

I really wish I'd gotten a photo of the little waiting area. They have all these colourful couches and lamps. It's like a little parlour. The spot is just so cozy. I even had to take a picture of the walls where the downstairs washrooms are located. They had gorgeous sunflowers painted all over them. The service is every bit as good as the food. The mimosas are worth it, lots of bubbles (some places really skimp, not Chesterfield's). They have many gluten-free options, which always makes me feel like I can eat like everyone else. I ordered the Bird's Nest Benny. The eggs were the most perfectly poached I've ever had at a restaurant. A side came with the benny, and I got the baked beans. The food was absolutely delicious. Potatoes, eggs, bacon, and maple-lime hollandaise that was to die for. There was so much food. Impossible to walk away hungry. Service was perfect as well. His name wasn't on the receipt, but he treated me like I was just as important as the group diners. No solo diner curse here. Cute spot, very clean, perfect service and food with quality ingredients.
