    Eggs Benedict with turkey bacon

Went for Sunday brunch for a party of 2. It was only a 10 minute wait which wasn't bad. You leave your number and they will send you a text when your table is ready. There is also a website for you to view your status in line. The strawberry cheesecake pancakes were so light and fluffy with just the right amount of sweetness. 3 huge pancakes topped with whipped cream and fresh strawberries, it was so good. I had to hold myself back from eating it all as I did not want to feel overstuffed. We all know that pancakes expand in the stomach so I had to pack the rest to go. The eggs Benedict was just ok. Not the best I've ever had but fairly decent. The egg was funny just the way we like and the potato chunks were perfect. Staff was friendly and service was great. Would definitely return to try their other menu items.

Peameal and Cheese Melt on a Bun

I tried this restaurant for the first time yesterday and before I went I looked at the website and it stated that this is in fact Canada's first pancake chain restaurant. So I thought that was kind of cool. To me it almost seems like a chorus though? However at my table we got the Peameal with cheese on a bun and we got a Reuben. This place offers a lot of Peameal and before going there I never heard of Peameal. Both were really good. The portions are absolutely huge. I will be back to try pancakes next time!

Stacked recently opened down south in Calgary. I noticed that they are a chain and many locations are in Ontario. Prices are good. You can get a pretty big meal for descent prices. The food is comparable to Ricky's, Denny's and other simple breakfast spots. It's not fancy. I really think some of their products are bought from a wholesale. Their waffles, even though it was yummy did not taste as though it was made in house. The eggs they use are the cheapest quality. Their potatoes need more seasoning. Service is good. Overall, a great place if you are wanting a nice place for breakfast.

Mediocre food, rushed service. Breakfast out is my favourite, but not here. Not a good experience.

Tucked away in an assuming strip plaza in S.E. Calgary, Ahinke is a Nigerian-Canadian fusion…read morerestaurant that specializes in brunch items. I went in with high expectations, and in some ways they were met, and in others I felt a bit let down. Firstly, the interior is lovely, with lots of warm wood tones albeit a little dim. The server (who was also the cook? Not sure) was attentive and wanted us to have a good experience. She suggested we try the more traditional Nigerian side of the menu, so we did. The jollof rice arancini was quite good, though I wish I could've tasted the jollof flavor more. The Nigerian shawarma wrap was massive and saucy; I liked that the pita wrap was grilled and crunchy. The shrimp fried rice wasn't my favorite however. The total came out to $72 before tips, which I felt was a bit expensive. I would want to come back and try the brunch items to see if I'll have a different experience!

I was in Calgary for just a few hours (stopover for a road trip), but I knew I wanted to try this…read morerestaurant after seeing them online. The menu is a mix of Nigerian and Canadian dishes. I got the suya chicken and waffles. Suya is a type of seasoning (you can purchase the seasoning to take home), which added a nice heat to the dish. It was served with two fluffy buttermilk waffles, peppercorn sauce, a poached, and hollandaise. It felt like getting chicken and waffles (but better and spicier) and an eggs benedict (cause of the poached egg and hollandaise sauce) in one dish. It also came with this tropical bliss salad, which had a nice combo of veggies and fruit and was really good. My original plan was to also get some puff puff to go, but I was way too full after my dinner. I was here on my own, so I got seated right away, but the space is smaller and I imagine it fills up quickly. If you're coming here with a group I'd make a reservation. Staff was nice, the restaurant was clean, and the food was delicious and a good deal for the price point. The only downside for me is I don't live in Calgary, but if I did I'd be visiting Ahinke's on the regular. It will definitely be a go to restaurant on my next visit.

Food: 3/5 Service: 3/5…read moreOverall experience: 3/5 (1- Terrible; 3- decent; 5- Fantastic) I've always wanted to try chicken and waffles, so I jumped at the opportunity when I saw Waffles & Chix at Calgary's Lilac Festival 2013. There was nothing memorable about the outside of the truck; white with red letters spelling out the name and concept of the truck, and a weird image of a chicken riding a 'waffle' skateboard. I managed to line up before a sudden rush; there was a bit of a wait (around 10 min to order and another 10 min for the food). The menu features: fried chicken and waffles ($9), a fried chicken poutine ($10), fried chicken & cheese waffle sandwich ($10), and sweet waffles for $5-$7. Note: Cash only. I ordered the southern fried chicken and waffle ($9), which for the price and portion is really decent compared to other Calgary food trucks. Definitely a carb overload and will put you in a food coma. Not the smartest idea on a hot day. Once I received my order, I was slightly disappointed to see that I did not get a fried chicken thigh or leg. Instead, I received two pieces of crispy chicken tenders. The chicken was a decent portion, but I almost ran out of it before I could finish the waffle. The dish could have had more gravy with a touch of hot sauce and I didn't like how the waffle became soggy from under the chicken and gravy. Overall, I wasn't blown away by the chicken and waffles. Although I love the concept, I wouldn't go back to try more.

However, we were in the area so my sister suggested making a pitstop for dessert. We dropped in on a Tuesday afternoon (around 1:00pm). It's a tiny shop; currently only allowing one person/family in at a time. There was about 20 flavors to choose from (seasonal and summer specials). Sad that you currently can't sample any flavours. Lime cilantro sorbet (that wasn't listed) peaked my interest. - Double scoop ($8.00) - we added a waffle one ($1.00) and decided on the sour cherry and guava papaya sorbet as our two flavours. They were very generous scoops. The sour cherry was the winner with real pieces of cherry (a slightly sour bite). Stronger in papaya than guava flavour. I think their sorbet texture could use a bit of work but overall, we were happy campers. - Single scoop ($6.00) - my sister went with the same flavours as we weren't sharing. Always nice when you have the options to choose two flavours in a single scoop. Credit cards only. Massive scoops. 3.5 stars.
