Most excellent breakfast. We had the pecan banana pancakes with clam hash on the side. This was the first time I have ever even heard of clam hash! I was really glad I tried it. The hash and pancakes were both delicious. I would go back here in a heart beat. My only complaint (hence the four stars instead of 5) the OJ is the typical dispenser kind. I prefer either fresh squeezed or a not from concentrate brnad. The bottom 1/3 of the glass was just oj syrup. The line when we went (mid Sunday morning in mid October) wasn't bad at all. read more

My husband and I ate breakfast at Stack 'em High with our one year old daughter since our hotel did not offer breakfast with our stay. It's an interesting setup, where you stand in line cafeteria-style, grab a tray and any to-go items like juice, fruit, yogurt, then order your hot food before paying. They give you a number and escort you to a table, and your made to order breakfast dishes are brought to your table. I had the banana chocolate chip pancakes and my husband had the berry pancakes. They were gourmet! My pancakes had the chocolate chips and bananas baked right into the cakes, rather than just sprinkled on top like many restaurants do. My husband's had blueberries baked inside and strawberries overflowing the top. They were both so tasty that I would go back here in a second! A true gem for the Outer Banks, would highly recommend it! read more

The set up of this place is stupid. You order like you're at a cafeteria, so you have absolutely no time to prepare. They don't know how to charge for something that's not a special. The food is skimpy and the bacon was terrible. The pancakes were soggy and the powdered sugar was unbearable. The people I went with said the coffee is amazing though. This was not my type of restaurant you walked in and had to decide what you wanted to eat drink, Etc. They had servers, but they brought you coffee and food after you ordered and paid. Could not sit down and look over the menu with a cup of coffee, but do it immediately with no time to decide. The eggs were done right and hash brown very good and then came the linked sausage. They really required a steak knife as they were over cooked and they put in the warm and they continue to cook leaving them uneatable. This not a place I would go back to eat. read more

At the recommendation of my husbands coworker, we decided to check this place out. It is a cafeteria style establishment where you get a tray, order your drink and meal and they bring your order to your numbered table. There is not a lot of seating. The flooring appears to be a bare concrete slab and the mismatch table and chairs just add to the lack of overall care for the place. Even with all of this, It appears to be popular based on the Yelp reviews and the packed parking lot. I got the French toast, eggs and bacon, my husband the same, my son the western omelet and my daughter got the bacon and pancakes. I also ordered a side of bacon because of my love for bacon. (Total disappointment) The bacon was poor quality extremely fatty and all of our bacon was extremely over cooked (beyond burnt) and I like crispy bacon but this was very over done. My sons western omelet was missing the peppers and had so much cheese you couldn't taste anything else. Lastly our eggs were swimming in grease and if it wasn't for the French toast the meal would have been a complete waste of money. IMO I would recommend you bypass this place and look for somewhere else to eat for breakfast. read more

Husband's choice. Counter service to place your order and get drinks. The line out the door but it moved steadily. Know it is an OBX tradition but dining area very hazy with grill smoke, a/c really struggling so it was very warm on a Sunday morning at 11:30. Staff friendly. Staff circulating frequently with drink and coffee refills. Owner circulated and was funny and nice. Food good, BLT big and had beautiful tomatoes. French toast looked great. Ordering is cafeteria style and interior is worn out. Husband ordered Philly Cheesesteak sandwich with fries... all I can say is "ewww"! Sandwich and fries were soggy and coated in grease. First impression, the older Hispanic lady was very rushed and kept asking question after question even after being told we needed a minute due to it being our first time, seeing it was our first time here we needed a minute to see everything. The name on the receipt said Jackie but I don't know if that was the older Hispanic lady(late 30s early 40s) or the white lady (mid to late 20s early 30s). The food however was amazing. read more

I was so excited for this place! When we got there the line was out the door, not a problem, must mean its good, right? Not so much... Wait was about 10-15 min. It's cafeteria style, so you get a tray and place your order to a person who gets your drinks and then the cashier who you pay and are expected to tip at that point. Cashier tells us to get silverware, which we tell her is empty. She asks someone to get more and they are still in dishwasher. She then asks for waiter? to get highchair for us. He makes a face at her. We are told to sit in the back corner and given a number. Tables are packed in there were you can barely move. I grab table to sit down and gum gets stuck to my finger. As we settle in I look at my drink and pink lipstick is around the rim. My husband goes and gets me a new one and goes to sit, but then remembers we need silverware. Our food is delivered and it greasy. Nothing special, not worth the wait, not worth the price or the frustration! Go to breakfast at fishbones sunset grill and raw bar. I usually go to the other location a little up the road and we always love it! We decided to try this location and it was a complete waste of time and money. We were first greeted by the old lady in charge of drinks who had yelled at us (yes actually yelled) to put a tray down when there was no room to do so due to the number of people in the tiny space and the amount of little kids standing just in front of me and we had to repeat our drinks five times and she still brought us the wrong stuff. When we went to the end to order the food we were met with a lady who also wasn't too pleased to be there and talked to us like we were children. We sat down and got our food and my mom had gotten French toast with bananas that in reality had maybe five pieces of banana on it all together and when I received my hash browns they were burnt and looked totally unappetizing. Stack'em High is a kind of cafeteria style place, but everything is made to order. You grab a tray & go through the self service part to get your drinks & maybe a muffin, and then you place your order at the end & pay. They give you a number stand & you go sit down. A few minutes later someone will bring your order to your table. We both had the Greek Omelette with hashbrowns & toast. The Omelettes were amazing! The vegetables (spinich & tomatoes) were perfectly seasoned; my only complaint would be to add more Feta, but I love me some Feta Cheese. The hashbrowns were fresh cut & thick like fries. This place is great for a late, lazy breakfast or a good relief after a night of partying. read more

Ordered a short stack with one egg and sausage. Pancakes were excellent. The side items (eggs and sausage) were gross. I ordered my eggs over medium, thinking they would be fried and a little runny. They came scramble over medium. Yuck! The atmosphere wasn't spectacular, but that isn't as important if the food is good. They ask for a tip in advance if you pay with a card, but we only saw a waitress once for a refill. Next time we will bring extra cash to tip more appropriately. I would go back just for the pancakes and not order any sides. read more

Extremely disappointed. Went there around 11 AM on 7/4 and the experience was awful. The staff allowed people to cut lines. Several people were in line before their entire party arrived, so other guests had to stand around while we waited for the rest of these people's parties to arrive. It was ridiculous. Staff didn't say anything - they weren't apologetic or insistent that you wait to order until your entire party arrives. The food was good but the venue and staff were not. I will not eat at this location again. The KDH location is MUCH better. read more

Great breakfast! Fast service. I ordered the crabmeat omelet and grits. OMG, the omelet was so buttery and rich. The grits are out of bounds. Husband got western omelet, so big he had to get a doggie bag. Only flaw, which has nothing to do with the food, is the ventilation is poor in the building. Very smokey. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION IT IS TERRIBLE! GO TO THE SOUTH LOCATION ONLY THEY ARE AWESOME! We tried this location for the first time and it was a terrible experience! The lady first greeting us and taking our drink order had the worst attitude! She was so rude she took our drink order (got it wrong) but then yelled at my daughter to put her tray down on the rack while there was still a family in front of us whose child was standing there beside her!!! She was just plain rude, unpleasant, unprofessional, very nasty person who does not need to be working around people at all!!! She was also rude to the man behind us about his coffee! We then get to the register and this lady was also unpleasant just had a bad attitude. The French toast was burnt, the biscuits in the biscuits and gravy were also burnt... what a bad experience we had today, I'm so disappointed! We go to the other location all the time and they are so nice and welcoming and the food is always delicious... lesson learned... read more

This place is beyond strange. You walk into a cafeteria style setup. But instead of picking up your food along the way, you just place your drink order. Then you place your food order once you snake around to the cash register. Good luck paying by credit card because evidently there's one phone line and you need to wait until chatty Kathy hangs up the phone to run your card. Once you pay, they give you a number and they tell your where to sit. Weird. Food came out faster than it took to order our food. Much to my surprise my Greek omelette was outstanding. So I'm a bit conflicted. After finishing my tasty omelette, I was prepared to give a positive review. But when I tried to exit the way we came in (obvious) and saw that I couldn't, my mind was changed. Your forced to exit our the back of the restaurant and walk all the way back around to the front where the parking lot is. It's the single strangest restaurant setup I have experienced. read more
