It's a restaurant for a golf course that's open to the public, but you don't see it without looking for it. It's not huge, but it's not small and it has an amazing menu. We don't get to Sandtrap as often as we should. This was our sixth visit in about ten years. We always have a good experience here and feel that of all of the Sooey's properties, they are head and shoulders the best, Shipwrecks being our second choice. Sooey's and Simply Southern are off our list This time it was a Pickle Brined Chicken sandwich for both of us. These were huge chicken breast halves and we actually could have shared one. My chicken was tender and juicy, but she found hers to be a little dry and felt like it was not brined long enough. I would still recommend this choice. I was tempted by the brisket sandwich and by the Smoked Turkey. Maybe next time. Both are to be recommended. The fries are still not great. I just think they are cut too thick. My slaw was not as good as I recalled, with too much celery seed that made it bitter, and the cabbage was stale and strong tasting. The two side dishes aside, I resolved that when we want a sandwich or fish tacos, we need to remember to come here. This is always a pleasant and quiet place for a good lunch. We originally came because we look for places that are participants in the AAdvantage mileage program, but we like the food and keep returning. We still rate them a strong three stars. read more

First let me say our service was excellent, we popped in 30 mins before closing time and they could not have been more gracious! The food is adequate, maybe it's because we came in later. I had a Cobb salad that was good. My hubs got the brisket and he said it was okay - again could've been the hour we arrived. The food here was amazing. We went for breakfast and they had a variety of options. The food was really hot and fresh. The bacon and sausage weren't precooked meats and were so good. The pancakes were very fluffy and buttery and the grits were absolutely delicious. The restaurant is off of a golf course and was very cute and quaint. There's plenty of seating and it's very spacious. There's plenty of parking as well. The service was good and waitresses were very friendly. It just took awhile for the food to come out. read more

First of all, this is a golf course restaurant (which isn't mentioned on their web site). Having said that, not a bad place overall. We came for their happy hour specials, which the waitress was unaware they had. Some items we ordered were unavailable as was the beer variety we initially ordered. The waitress was nice, but clueless. We eventually settled on a Mac and cheese option, which was somewhat inventive but was lukewarm at best. Overall a great spot to stop after a round of golf, but with so many options in Outer Banks this wouldn't be top of my list. read more

I've were in the area for a long weekend with friends. My husband and I decided we wanted to go grab a quick lunch, so a Yelp search netted several chains but then we saw Sandtrap. My husband loves golf and my mom worked at a golf course when I was a kid, so we thought it would be fun to eat at an eatery that is adjacent to a golf course. When we arrived, the parking lot was pretty full, but the restaurant had just a handful of people. We took a table outside overlooking the first tee and watched golfers tee off. Our server greeted us and got drinks for us...a gin and tonic for me and an ipa for my husband. For our meals, we got a house salad with balsamic, the tea-brined wings and peel and eat shrimp. Everything was good. The wings had a pretty strong vinegar flavor and were slightly dry, but the flavor was nice. The prices here are pretty good! My mixed drink was only $6. If I lived nearby, I'd walk over, enjoy some good food and a reasonably priced cocktail. read more

The parking was plentiful and the place very clean and tidy. The waitress was warm and wonderful, but unfortunately that was the best part of the experience. I went there for breakfast as they were one of the few places open between eight and nine in the morning. I ordered hashbrowns and corn beef hash. The hash was burned on the outside, but the unburnt part was acceptable, if average. The hashbrowns did not resemble any hashbrowns I've ever seen or tasted. They look like frozen potato nuggets that someone had thrown in the fryer - basically cubes of breaded fried potato with no flavoring. They were not burnt but neither were they tasty or fresh. I'm guessing that the food is prepared from frozen and so I cannot give this place any higher than three stars. read more

I stopped here on my way back to Duck coming from Holly Ridge Golf Course to grab some lunch and a few beers. I found the whole experience very pleasant and the food appetizing, yet nothing to write home about either. I actually enjoyed the Buffalo Fried Shrimp more than the chicken sando. Perfectly fried and I couldn't stop popping them into my mouth. If you like buffalo chicken wings then you will like these guys. If you're getting an app with your meal, get this one. I thought the Pickle-Brined was pretty good. The pickles, potato bread, and crispiness of the breaded chicken were all great. I think an area of improvement could be made with the seasoning of the breading on the chicken. It tasted kind of bland and really held this sandwich back from what otherwise would have been a really good southern style fried sandwich. I did really enjoy the fries that came with it. Overall, it was a nice and refreshing dining experience after coming off an extremely hot round of golf. Considering how crowded and pricey some places in OBX can get Sandtrap Tavern had none of that. Overall a very positive experience. read more

A perfect sports bar environment. The food has never disappointed me. The bartenders are some of the best on the Outer Banks hidden gem.

Great breakfast and you get in and out pretty fast. It's not another tourist trap.It seems like there is mostly locals here.

The food was phenomenal! Schindler's homemade lasagna was the best I've ever had! His grandmother's recipe is one-of-a-kind!! He even offered great locations to take my little man fishing. So personable and has a great smile! The restaurant is clean, inviting and beautifully decorated. Love the compass when you walk in! The atmosphere is great too! Loved that you can play Keno! They're one of two places that have Keno on the beach. Met the best locals! So friendly! The service was 50/50. Kristen was AMAZING!! Anne was a grump. She wasn't friendly, didn't smile the entire time and acted like we were an inconvenience when cashing out Keno winnings. She doesn't have anything on KiKi! If I had to say anything it would be they're one of the most underrated and underestimated places on the beach! Great value. You don't have to be a member to eat there. Not a bad spot at all! Simple prices, tasty food, decent drink concoctions, and friendly service with an excellent view of the golf course! I came in here on a whim not knowing what to expect. I was promptly seated at the bar and noticed over my right shoulder that you can see the entire fairway out the window! Pretty stunning! The menu had a small mixed list to choose from but it was such a variety that it didn't upset me at all. I decided to go with the Perky Turkey. A huge slab of turkey meat on some Texas Toast bread, with some cranberry aoli that would make your mouth stop working because the flavor is unbelievable! Gouda cheese slapped on this baby made it an awesome balance of a sandwich. There were also fries. How can I forget them?!? Crisp and full of flavor. I had to remind my girlfriend that they were mine so she'd stop eating them. That didn't stop her. I lost a good number of them but at least they weren't dropped on the floor. I'd stop back here for sure to see what they'd whip up for me. There's a little grab 'n go stand off to the side for the golfers. One adorable gentleman came in and the bartender was so excited he stopped in. He picked up some food for his buddies and went on out to chase balls. This was our first stop when we arrived on the island. We wanted an early dinner before we checked in. What was adorable was that the cater to dogs! They have a dog menu and you are allowed to eat on the patio with your dog! Our dog had a wonderful hamburger. Our food was good (fish tacos), and we enjoyed a cold beer. Okay, so know that this is basically like a golf course clubhouse. They didn't have a drink menu, which I thought was a little odd, a simple five drink menu would have been nice. Or even what's on tap or what's in stock for that matter. Anyway we were looking for a cheap happy hour place so get some drinks and appetizers. Their menu was unfortunately not up to date or accurate (see picture). The shrimp say 20 cents each, but are actually $5 for half a pound or $10 for a pound. We did the math and it was about 40-50 cents a shrimp, so a pretty big difference. The steamed shrimp were fine. Also, both the BBQ and chicken sliders say "sliders" plural, but really you only get one. The waitress mentioned that as I was ordering, but that's pretty misleading. I got one of each. The chicken was better than the BBQ, both were okay/good. Lastly, we had the buffalo shrimp, which was pretty good, tasted like boneless chicken wings, but shrimp. Overall, decent place, it was clean, newer, and had friendly service, but definitely needs to work on their menu game. P.S. People in my party said the chicken wings and tacos were good. read more

Great happy hour! 3-6pm The shrimp was fresh and delish. Hubby enjoyed the jumbo wings. My fried chicken slider was yummy! Like a little chick-Fila sandwich! The salads were huge and satisfying. Ate here for lunch twice this week and both times we have not been disappointed! I got a perky turkey club the first time and it was delicious! Today I got the She Crab soup. I have to say the She Crab soup does not disappoint! There is tons of crab in the creamy deliciousness! When we walked in today the gal who served us the other day, Evan, remembered us and welcomed us back. Then later on Mike the cook cake out to see how our food was.
