Great drinks! It can get pretty packed mid-morning and take a bit (happened when I was a part of a group of 9 so fair) but it's the closet coffee shop to the beach area so makes sense. They have a few picnic tables outside and it's a nice view of the sound side. Went another time and ordered only 2 drinks and it came out within 2 minutes. Other than the cool name "Outer Bean" this place is not welcoming. Talking to the girl in the order window was like talking to a wall. Then waited 25 minutes for avocado toast and a bagel with butter. Had no idea when our order was ready because there's no loudspeaker for names to be called out so listen closely and don't go far. Being a window only restaurant with a bad cashier (at least today 7/29 8:40am) completely turned me off . I won't be back. First, This is not the correct location, it's closer to duck road. Second the owner is a real jerk and kinda Wacko. I've seen her yell at her employees and make them pay for a mistaken order. I ordered a smoothie from her and told her I couldn't have any apple in it and a sandwich that couldnt have Pune nuts, because I'm allergic. She told me it was fake and that I have a weak pancreas. This is a brand new location for Outer Bean Coffee. I have not been to the one in Kitty Hawk but we were happy with the coffee here and the juice here is great as well. It's nice to get fresh juices and smoothies without having to drive too far! They accept credit cards and along with the plastic straws they also offer paper straws for properly earth conscious people! Great little stop in for carry out drinks and coffee! read more

You have to slow down from 35 to 25 anyway. Might as well stop at The Outer Bean and grab a coffee ( or a smoothie or a slushee or a smooschie, whatever the kids are drinking these days!) I've only had their coffee. Freshly brewed and tasty, it is! But since I ride my bike up here, and it's tough to drink and ride - I sit outside and watch the Osprey across the street while I caffeinate Kidding. I sit outside and berate people for driving around in a dirty car, or having a bad hair day. Anyway, everyone else gets power smoothies and chais and mocha choka latte javas. As a local I hate to ever have to write a review like this especially for a small business, but the experience I had yesterday must be addressed in the hopes that that the owner may see it and try to do better because if more customers have an experience even a fraction as bad as ours then it may only be a matter of time before they go out of business. First off we were one of the first customers and we found out that half their menu were not available. Which was the same when I stopped in 3 weeks prior..might be time for an update if you've cut out half your options. So we placed our order and sat for 30 mins as customer's ordered received their orders and left after us. Maybe our orders were more complicated? Couldn't be .. they were getting the same items we ordered...*face in Palm* After our 30 min wait we received our smoothies only to find out that they were warm..the ice cream one was the only smoothie not warm..the others were literally room temperature and basically just "goop" that was pureed. My bill was $53 for 5 smoothies and two bagels, I even left a 20% tip. Everything except the bagels and ice cream smoothly got tossed in the garbage. I'll try this place twice more in a few weeks (albeit just for me) and update this post as necessary. As for now we are extremely disappointed. read more

Over priced for mediocre coffee. We paid extra for a frappuccino. When our drinks were ready, I was handed what looked like a regular iced coffee that had been sitting for 30 minutes (melted ice). I questioned the employee and she said they were out of whipped cream and unable to make frappuccinos. She did not apologize or offer to adjust the price of our drinks. Been here for 30 minutes waiting for Coffee. 10 minutes ago they finally came out to tell us they didn't have espresso. We waited another 10 and ended up with a smoothie that tasted only only of ice. The coffee tastes just genetically burnt and bad. The young woman explained multiple times she had no idea what was going on because she just started. The açaí smoothie bowl I ordered was just not good. The smoothie itself was more of a juice consistency instead of the thick, almost ice cream-like consistency i'm used to smoothie bowls being, and the "juice" to topping ratio was off, there being too much topping and not enough smoothie. The toppings were also put together in an odd fashion, the peanut butter, apple slices, and grapes are not a combination of fruits that i believe work well together, especially on an açaí bowl. Although if you're into that, then go for it. My boyfriend on the other hand ordered a bagel salmon which he thought was really great. read more

Smoothies are bomb and super delicious, but the bagels are the same that you get from the grocery (I saw them pull it out of the bag) but your still gonna pay $3.50 for a tiny bagel. Customer service is HORRIBLE. The first day the lady at the window said we had to order online because people didn't show for work and today apparently it was only her and another person at prime breakfast time (8-10)... a sign of poor management and planning as I've worked in multiple bakeries and know what such behavior and work is a sign of. Also today the lady at the window was very rude. I asked what she said and she had an attitude for having to repeat herself.... And was rude to not only me but multiple customers while I waited. She called my name for the order, I immediately walked up, she ignored me, took multiple people's order, and then when she asked what we were waiting for I told her my name and she said she never said my name even though the other 5 customers around me heard her say my name. read more
