I've driven by Emden hundred and hundred of times. Not once did I ever drive through town. This time I did and stumbled upon this place. I ordered the pepper jack curds, side salad, baked potato, and the walleye. Oh wow oh wow. The curds were to die for. The salad and baked potato were so good with my fish. The salad wasn't fancy, just what I like. The baked potato was scrumptious and came out HOT! Now the fish... oof, so so so good! Fried to perfection and so much flavor and just fell apart I dropped 2 pieces on my pants. I got 2 Yuengling draft beers and they came out cold and just when I needed them. Who knew that hogs had wings? Stopped by after a working in my office on Saturday. The Stag-R-Inn is a very nice place in small town Illinois. Friendly staff, nice selection of food, clean. The waitress recommended the Hog Wings with bourbon sauce. I would definitely order it again. Next time, I will bring some friends for a game of pool and shuffleboard. read more

If you love horseshoes you need to try the horseshoes at the Stag-R-Inn. I had the hamburger shoe and it was the best I've ever had. The cheese sauce was creamy and the hamburger was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. It wasn't very busy for a Saturday afternoon but the server was friendly and she kept our drinks full. We went there for the Friday fish. The place was packed and we had to wait. The couple in line in front of us got a table and invited us to join them. Met new friends. Had very nice wait staff. The fish (both walleye and catfish) was excellent. The only down side was the wait for food. But given the number of people there, it was expected. I understand they have hog wings on Saturday. We will be back to try those. Don't expect fancy, but expect good food and friendly people. read more

My husband and I frequent this place when we travel for business. We've been here at lunch and also at dinner time. We've gotten to know the owner and it's been a joy to see him because he is always friendly and his sister-in-law is normally our waitress and she is great as well. His wife and baby come in and it's just fun to see a place that is truly family friendly. We've enjoyed dang near everything we've ever ordered but if something is not right it is remedied for us. I do know there was a period where they lost their beloved kitchen manager so I did read a comment about food and place quality but I believe they're back on track. It's also important to factor in that this is a bar and grill and just like other places the waitresses are young (high school and college) and the kitchen staff is as well so it's hard to get a good groove with life changes. Next time we go I will attach photos. We are very eager to try the prime rib special. We have heard absolutely wonderful things. Keep up the good work. This place is great. read more

We have been coming to Stag-R-In since it opened. It has been one of our favorites and we have brought friends and family there. However, the last year we have seen a decline in food quality and definitely the service. Tonight we got there about 10 minutes before food service stopped(the bar stays open later) and we were greeted by our server saying "We close at 8. You just made it. What do you want to drink." Wow...no smile, no friendly greeting. Just a feeling of hurry up, order and eat so I can go hang out with my friends at the bar. The food is good but portions have decreased and the food presentation is sloppy. I ordered a burger...very good once I put it back on the bun straight and fries...I think I got about 15. I guess if you take the time and pay the money to go out to eat you want to feel like like your patronage is appreciated which was not our experience tonight or the last few times we have been there.
