A WINE SHOP THAT SELLS NO BAD WINE!…read more One of the mottos we wine drinkers have frequently heard is "Life is too short to drink bad wine!" This is the credo of the Princeton Corkscrew. This well researched and mindfully assembled "wine library" has best representatives of even the tiniest microclimate where wines of note are produced. The associates working beside the owner Laurent Chapuis are well-studied connaisseurs who can talk intelligently about every bottle in the shop. Before a new bottle is placed in the racks it has been tasted and discussed by members of the team. Laurent, himself, visits the winemakers and the terroirs to select only the best examples and best vintages for his shelves. Open tastings invite we consumers to meet the makers and taste their wines including vertical samplings which educate us. I've never visited a better educated shop than the Princeton Corkscrew. It was mos def a "trip down memory lane" for him as we walked into The Hub as many of his memorable nights of getting completely hammered in NB usually started with a visit to The Hub. I would like to go ahead and say this right off the bat...I have never seen a more eclectic selection of "liquor blends" and "bum wines" - both of which we indulged in buying. The selection of "liquor blends" (in the padlocked fridge closest to the bar) was what I found to be the most fascinating. It was in this fridge that I was able to find Tarantula's Azul Magaraita "Premium Liquor Blend" in Fresa (strawberry), Melon, Baya (berry) and Mango. This made me reminiscent of my undergrad days....oh..what fun I had drinking the "Premium Liquor Blends." Aside from the Tarantula there was also a liquor blend that was advertised (on the bottle) as "LIQUOR YOU CAN EAT!" I couldn't help but umm...stare at the bottle (in confusion) for a bit. So, the BF got his bum wines and sparks and I got my Tarantula and Sauza Blanco(seriously, you thought that I was going to drink the "liquor blend" sans extra liquor? pssssshhhh...) and the total came out to $26 (my Sauza cost $11). That's pretty damn good considering it was a 40 oz of Night Train, three other smaller bottles of bum wine, three sparks, a Tarantula and a (something bigger than a 1/5 but not a bottle) of Sauza. We were pretty dandy for the weekend. Oh yah, um, Cash ONLY and they stick your ID into this ID thing..so youngins' beware.

We wanted to try a bottle of wine, and he ordered a case for us. We said we just wanted to have one bottle and he got it for us anyway. Several years ago we ordered mini bottles of wine from him for our wedding. He gave us a great price and worked with us to get exactly what we wanted. Aside from all that, Jay knows just about every customer by name! He greets everyone when they come in, and treats them like gold. He is a very kind individual. They also remove the prices off their wine bottles so the bottle has a nice look if you are bringing it out or giving it as a gift. If I had one negative thing to say it would be that the prices are slightly higher than the surrounding liquor stores, but not by much.

I purchased very often from this store in the past because it is in my neighborhood and purchased multiple bottles of scotches together many times. So, I went to the store immediately (within 30 min) and requested to exchange. I had my receipt. But the store manager denied to accept and my experience/conversation with the store was not pleasant. He said that its my fault that I didn't check/open the box during purchase even though I was purchasing multiple scotches. He also highlighted that the store policy doesn't care about customer service experience. I am not a person to fight for $40-50. But thought to share so that it can help others next when you go to this store.

Not the easiest to find or to park. The team at Grape Escape prepared some very nice appetizers and buffet dinner complimented by their various wines. I enjoyed their Cabernet Savnignon which took a bit to get used to. Ed Ventura is the owner and wine master. He knows what he's doing and was able to answer questions from a very inquisitive group. Basically they don't sell bottles of wine. What they do is provide training and classes for wine making as well as the opportunity to make your OWN wine using their facility and grapes. The grapes are mostly imported from different regions including South America. The grapes are crushed there and fermented into different types of barrels including American Oak. You can purchase an entire barrel or as little as an 1/8 of a barrel. I don't know the cost, but apparently they have a loyal repeat customer base. You can then bottle off your own brand of wine for social events or private use. I found the entire event to be educational and inspiring.

At the start, i was reserved about committing to a large batch of wine, having received diy wines in the past as gifts that were fit for cooking, at best... So we shared a quarter barrel. I knew when we got to the bottling and tasted some of the rich old vine zin that we had barrel stored for the past 7-8 months, that we didn't order enough. The wine, only in its youthful state, was outstanding, comparable to zins you'd pay $75+ per bottle for in a wine store. And it will only get better with some age and stable storing. We'll begin to enjoy more around the Fall/Winter holidays. We were were going to give this wine as a holiday gift, but decided its better that we serve it and drink it ourselves! We are signing up again for this fall's red crushing and will try some other varietal next, i tasted their cab at the bottling and it was also delicious!
