We had our wedding here in early May 2025, and it was absolutely perfect. We received so many compliments from our guests about how much they loved the venue. Even though the day was gloomy, chilly, and on-and-off rainy, it somehow made everything feel even more special. Right before our 3 PM ceremony, the rain eased into a light sprinkle, and thanks to my mom bringing a bunch of clear umbrellas to hand out, we were still able to have the ceremony outside. It was beautiful. After the ceremony, guests moved to a covered outdoor deck for cocktail hour, which was set up beautifully, and then into the Harborview Room for the reception. Everything flowed seamlessly. Dawn, our wedding coordinator, was incredible to work with. She handled everything behind the scenes so effortlessly that I didn't have to worry about a single thing on the day of. She truly made sure everything was perfect. I would absolutely recommend hosting your wedding here, or even just staying at the inn. It's charming and intimate without feeling too small, the staff is incredibly attentive, and the setting is peaceful and beautiful. And the food? Amazing. Truly next-level. Strong drinks, predictable but acceptable menu, amazing views. Our muscles with chorizo and beer were very fresh and expertly cooked. That said, the dish was overall a slight miss... I would have liked the chorizo to have been finely diced as opposed to the very large medallions it was served as - hard to eat. It's an app, yet it came with just one piece of bread. An app that comes with bread should certainly have more than 1 piece...apps usually are for sharing at the table! Finally, the acidity on the dish was off. Still they don't acknowledge return customers, so kind of impersonal that way. Rooms are nice and,of course the location and views are great. Prices have increased a lot, but that doesn't seem to slow the influx of families. ( A lot of kids, and noisy reunions.) Breakfasts have improved dramatically. Now they have a waffle maker and bagels, and better pastries. Service is very friendly and efficient. the coffee is refilled without having to ask. The main restaurant for dinner remains somewhat underwhelming. They don't offer bread. ( Not nice.) We had scallops which were rubbery and salty which shouldn't happen in Maine. Presentation was pretty good, and again, excellent service. Great restaurants in Portsmouth, but we were too lazy to drive. Overall, a nice getaway- and perfect location. read more

My wife and I went to the Stage Neck for our 30th anniversary. It is very clean and the staff was very attentive. We had dinner there, both nights of our stay, and found the food to be very good. Price wise, it is on the pricey side, but you get great food. My only thing was that I thought the shrimp was a little over cooked for an appetizer. (see photo) When you stay over, they have a complimentary breakfast buffet. This not the type you get at the Holiday Inn express! The food was fresh and the variety was awesome. I would recommend going there just for the buffet if you are staying in the area. If you have mobility issues, there is an elevator. The beaches looked nice, but not really accessible for someone in a wheel chair. If you are interested in a nice quiet place to stay then this is the place. read more

I went here yesterday with my wife and two good friends. We all paid for very expensive massages with the understanding that this included day passes to the full spa and pools on site. It is labor day weekend and we all wanted to relax. However after attempting to enter the outdoor pool (which was huge and and completely empty) we were told that this was a private club and we were not allowed to swim. The white staff were incredibly rude and glared at my Filipino wife and latino friend like they did not belong. Everyone there was white and looked rich. We will not be returning to this white supremacist establishment. read more

Pros: We had an amazing view, and fell asleep to the sound of the ocean. The room was spotless, well laid out, and the bed was insanely comfy. We added the romance package, which included a bottle of prosecco, chocolates, late check out, and room service breakfast--all of which was delicious. The beach was lovely--decided to go for a dip even though it's freezing. Good safety protocols--temp check, stickers to ensure from the outside that a room has been cleaned, everyone in masks. The beds were small for two people (double). The room was small. The hotel used to have coffee, tea, cookies in the lobby nothing anymore. The hotel used to give out free drink vouchers now they don't. The pool is a kiddie pool. The breakfast is the same as a continental breakfast. The prices for drinks were high $17 for a glass of wine. We ordered the date night dinner which was supposed to be prime rib and what came out was a hunk of meat (looked like a chuck roast) that you cut and serve yourself. The meat was tough and I've never seen a prime rib look like that? We have stayed there several times and never again! The setting is beautiful, the building clean and neat. The staff was excellent. The food was good (not great) and serving portions for the same menu selections varied significantly which confused me because consistency is usually very important in a high end setting. Additionally, phone service (at least with T-Mobile and AT&T) is virtually non existent. Using their guest WiFi was also an act of frustration (and I work in IT and my party had top of the line phones from varying manufacturers. The lack of connectivity is a huge issue for people with time sensitive situations. All in all I rate this about a 6.5 out of 10. For the price the overall experience was disappointing. read more

Took a short day trip up to York Harbor on our first day in nearby Portsmouth. We stopped at Stage Neck Inn to look around as we had heard nice things about it. Because it was mid-afternoon, and we had lunch about 2 hours ago, we only had coffee and a piece of pie. Normally I would never write a review for such a short, insignificant visit to a place. However, in my brief time at Stage Neck I dealt with 3 young ladies in the main dining room. The first was a high school girl at the check in desk who seated us, then a young black girl (and I only point that out because I didn't get her name) who brought us water and then our main waitress, Kristen. All three of these young women were absolutely exceptional in greeting us, conversing with us and welcoming my partner and I to the Stage Neck Inn. Not sure what this property does to get such talent at such a young age but they turned coffee and pie into a memorable experience. I hope management sees this review and lets the girls know how appreciative we were of their hospitality. This is my first time ever to Maine and if I come back again I'm likely to stay at the Stage Neck as it's a beautiful property with a great staff. read more

Beautiful hotel right on the ocean. We had a last minute change and needed an offsite space for a meeting. I've actually organized many offsite meetings in my time and I have to say this was one of the smoothest easiest experiences I've ever had. The meeting organizer Ruth is just outstanding she knows what she's doing she's available accessible helpful and made everything so easy she's just great at her job. We were a group of 14 in the Shearwater room and we had everything set up on time and the room was beautiful overlooking the ocean and we had the buffet breakfast and we had lunch and we had cocktails and dinner and all of the food was really great the service was exceptional I will definitely go back there with the group again read more

Enjoyed the Inn annually for many years. Today as I rolled down the drive I instantly noticed the American Flag wasn't flying and the pole is gone. I asked around and learned it fell in a storm and sadly there's not much talk about replacing it. That flag is as important to this place as everything else. First stay here for two nights end of June for 10th anniversary. Loved the breakfast options and sitting outside to eat in the shade against the building. Extremely hot weather and there were tables on the lawn but in full sun. When inquiring about lack of umbrellas we were told that they present a liability when the breeze kicks up. Understood but makes it uncomfortable to sit there. Our room was nice and clean. First impression on check in could have been better. Hubby nicknamed the clerk "miss crabby pants". Heard others mentioning her too, wondering why someone with such a poor disposition was front of house. Restaurant for dinner had good food but not great service. If you're looking for special occasion fine dining best to check elsewhere. This is more a family restaurant, very loud. Lots of commotion. KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: the outdoor pool is not just for hotel guests. It's also used by a condo complex adjacent to the Inn. Loud, dozens of families, difficult to get seating, no shade to speak of, lifeguard blowing whistle and yelling at people, selfish behavior of people "reserving" space from open to close. Felt like we were at a public town pool which was the last thing we expected at a $450+/night resort. Morning of checkout we went down to use the indoor hot tub but was told by the grumpy maintenance guy that it was "drain day" so it was closed. Why wouldn't "drain day" be after hours? Consisted of two small cardboard cooked shrimp, a tiny piece of over cooked fish and three thumbnail sized sea scallops. This meager offering was sitting in a super salty over-reduced sauce w a slice of bread. $37 x 2! Salmon & Chicken dishes were reportedly good. Lamb shank small & over cooked. This overpriced experience is unfortunately not uncommon post Covid and is the main reason I have taken up cooking my own favorite restaurant dishes. 1 star for food. Had a wonderful evening enjoying good company good food and cold drinks. There are multiple seating options the shearwater, the sandpiper, poolside and the terrace. We sat on the terrace enjoying the sunset and beautiful ocean views as the salty air occasionally swept in. Everything was clean with nautical undertones and a very relaxed atmosphere. The service was perfect. We had the pleasure of two servers as one was training. They answered all of the numerous questions in depth. We never felt rushed as we grazed slowly over our food. They had it to an art, making sure we never had to ask for anything but also never hovering as we ate. They kept our drinks filled and served each course with slight delay allowing us to savor the food. Everything done with a smile. They have their own cocktail creations as well as wine and beer lists. The spinach dip was served with bubbly melted cheese and crunchy crostinis. The beet salad is not a dish I would normally order but the flavors complimented each other well with slightly bitter arugula and sweet golden and red beets with a creamy dressing. The tuna poke was a wonderful dish with wonton crisps thin strips of seaweed and tender morsels of fresh tuna. The chicken caprese sandwhich was thick slices of fresh mozzarella, ripe tomatoes, basil and chicken. The chicken was a little overdone but the overall dish was delicious. I added a little balsamic vinegar. The French fries that accompanied it were crispy exterior and soft potato inside. The dessert menu was a wonderful end to the meal. I was so full but it all sounded so good. I settled on sharing the chocolate raspberry cake. This was more of a chocolate torte, thick and moist and delightfully chocolatey. It was drizzled with a wonderful raspberry syrup, a side of whip cream and fresh raspberries. It was the ending I was craving for a superior experience. read more

It doesn't matter where you sit in Shearwater... you will have breathtaking views. We were sat in the outdoor patio area where there is 180°+ degrees of stunning scenery; miles and miles of open ocean, healthy and vibrant gardens, a sandy beach, and the rocky coast of Maine. Watching a fire-colored sun set while eating dinner almost literally on the Atlantic isn't such a bad thing! I showed up early and ordered an extra dirty vodka martini straight-up from the bartender - he did a fantastic job (bonus points to him for asking me if I wanted to keep the ice on the side, I just thought that was a really thoughtful touch). I was encouraged to grab a plate of complimentary cheese, crackers, and fruit and take a seat outside by the fire pit if I wanted. I didn't do this (I regret this decision), but appreciated that they were constantly making sure I was where I wanted to be, eating/drinking what I wanted to be throughout the night. I think this would have been better if they had just used firm goat cheese sprinkled on the salad with maybe a drizzle of honey on top. Loved that there were golden beets though! + The artichoke dip (with cheddar and garlic crostini) for $11 was probably my favorite edible thing; however the crostini were REALLY crunchy, so I ended up using the complimentary bread rolls instead. I do love how much artichoke and cheese was used, though. I admit: I ended up eating this with a spoon throughout the night because I enjoyed it so much. -The cauliflower fritters (with a citrus herbed hummus and charred tomato coulis) for $21 wasn't worth it. The breakfast buffet hostess asks too many questions and then seems to think that you won't sign the slip. I was informed on all communications plus once I checked in. Well, I'm starting to fall in love with a lady named Scallop. Coming from the Gulf Coast, we have a particular way of cooking and consuming seafood and Scallops have never been of particular interest to me. They always seemed so rubbery! But last night after taking my first bite, I wondered if I have been served actual plastic all these years.The scallops were so smooth I took my first bite and did a double take. I ended up finishing my plate quicker than it took my fellow dinners to unravel their utensils. Awkward. So I just stared off at the beach until I regained my cool. Clean, comfortable, affordable and great staff. The front desk is very good. The waitstaff (we enjoyed Skyler's excellent service on the lawn/heat lamps+) is very well trained and offer exceptional service. As an aquatics instructor, I appreciated the cleanliness of both the hot tub and pool. The fitness room looks great but outdoors we enjoyed the Cliff Walk and beach and strolling the property was renewing and invigorating. Love the crashing waves against the jetty; some of the SNI rooms spectacular/ocean/river front views. I brought my dog, and there was fee, but there are only a couple pet friendly rooms so I understand -it's worth it! I feel this little place offers the intimacy you want on a seacoast getaway; romantic and quintessential charm. Very quiet and they like it that way. My only suggestion would be to enhance the (recorded) music at the bar to upbeat lounge; yet the live piano player was excellent. I can't wait to return to the Stage Neck Inn...great place to escape solo. Demographics felt 55+ yet wedding parties and grandchildren on the gorgeous beach made it feel like a real magical place. read more

This review is for the hotel restaurant, Shearwater. We stayed at the inn and our stay came with vouchers for 4 breakfasts and 4 happy hour drinks. And we had one of our evening meals there. Bottom line: Ok if you're staying at the inn to eat there once, but definitely not worth a visit otherwise. I'll review in order of our visits: First, drinks at happy hour. (Yes, happy hour! 1/2 price drinks 4PM to 6! Still legal in Maine!) Our drinks were better than half price; they were in fact free due to the vouchers (or at least the first 2 were). Pay only the tip, which you won't forget because it's automatically added when you use the vouchers - fair enough. Excellent unique cocktails made with craft spirits. We had an "Always Dreaming" and a "Scotland the Brave" - sorry, I don't remember the details. Perfectly mixed, strong, well chilled, and large. Mine not only filled the martini glass to the brim but I got the leftovers that didn't fit in another glass. No problem there. Our bartender's shift ended and the next bartender wasn't quite so generous but still good drinks. Next, the evening meal. Disappointing. Appetizer of asian style chicken wings was room temperature, soggy, and bland. My seafood stew: shrimp, scallops, mussels, and fish in a broth. Ample size and fresh seafoood but pretty unmemorable, flavor-wise. DW's hanger steak, ordered medium, was almost rare, and was also practically room temperature. Blueberry pie and gelato for dessert. Ok, it's not blueberry season so of course they had to use frozen or imported blueberries but even allowing for that it was disappointing, with a crust that did nothing to add any interest to this forgettable dessert. Breakfast was buffet style, with lots of the standard items one would expect: eggs, hash browns, fresh fruit, waffles, sausages, bacon, cereals, and more. Generally at breakfast buffets I just stick to a couple of items so I can only comment on those. The hash browns were very greasy but tasty. The sausages, which I used to make a sandwich with a toasted waffle, were bland and also very greasy, and there was no mustard (admittedly that is not a standard breakfast condiment but it would have helped). Then the strangest item: homemade donuts! These were an absolute disaster: misshapen lumps of dough so saturated with grease that you could literally squeeze them and see the fat ooze out! In two flavors: chocolate and plain. I took one bite of the chocolate and that was too much. Then I tried the plain - no better. I mentioned it to the server and he said "some love them, some can't stand 'em." I guess you know where I stand. But surely they must have screwed up the recipe that day? So I tried one again the next morning - no better. I'm at a loss to understand how anyone could eat even one of those travesties, let alone count it as the "best anywhere". read more

The Stage Neck Inn exceeded our expectations this past weekend for our daughter's wedding. From the venue, to the scenery, to waiters and waitresses, and accommodations, we could not have asked for a better wedding weekend celebration. Part of customer service is being polite. He was horrible to every single person in our party and attempted to kick us out of the bar when we called him out . This resort is lovely, situated directly on the ocean. Our room had a view of the ocean and it was so relaxing to hear the waves from our room. The property is well maintain and the rooms were very nice and comfortable. The complimentary breakfast was delicious. So many options for everyone. The wait staff were very pleasant. We had a medical emergency and the gentleman at the front desk Sean was awesome in assisting to call 911 and also was very commodating when we called down to the front desk at 2 am and ask if he had any crackers, he promptly brought them up to our room. I just recently got back from a two-night stay at the Stage Neck Inn. I can't wait to go back again. This place was exactly what I was looking for in regards to a quiet, relaxing stay to unwind and refresh from busy life. I stayed mid week and it was very quiet and felt like I had the place to myself. I loved sitting by the fireplace and beautiful appointed lounge area reading news, books, and sipping coffee. The staff were all wonderful from the front desk, housekeepers, massage therapists, and restaurant servers. Everyone was so friendly and so accommodating. My room was good and spacious, a harborview deluxe. Everything was clean and well stocked and the fireplace was a great touch during the cold few days. Bed and furniture were all comfortable as well. Loved feeding the seagulls and viewing the tranquil shoreline from my balcony. The fitness center and locker room area are very small but clean and updated. They were great for myself as I was the only one in there at the times I went but I can't imagine what its like peak season when the Inn is busier. Pool and hot tub area seemed nice from when I looked inside but I did not use them. Breakfast and dinner in the restaurants was great. My dinners were spectacular. Breakfast was ok - Buffet style food served in heated crocks. My meals were included with my package booking. I'm not sure if I would book like that next time. Four-courses is a lot of food!! and there are no restrictions of what can be picked from each section of the menu. I ended up bringing a lot back to my room and eating for lunch the next day. Also you still end up spending ~$40-60 (for two people) for dinner, if you get all four courses and drinks since they add 18% gratuity based on everything ordered. It may be wise to calculate out what you'll actually order and compare it against your room price with or without dinner included. I deducted a star for the repeated fire alarm issue that happened on our last evening. Very disruptive at 11pm and there wasn't much direction or transparency about the issue to guests besides that it was a false alarm but we had to return to our rooms with the alarm continuing to go off. I'm sure this was just a fluke and will definitely not prevent me from staying at the Inn again next year. read more
