We visited recently, off-season, and had two rooms on the 2nd floor. The view was beautiful! They decorate (at Christmas) BEAUTIFULLY and I believe their lights remain lit until late January. It really is gorgeous. The rooms are definitely old but our bed was comfortable, clean and updated appearance to the beds and linens, and the tv/coffee maker/etc were all nice to have. We had two double beds and it was comfortably sized (along with a little cafe type table and 2 chairs). The tub is old. Clean but old. Tub and toilet are in the bathroom, the vanity/sink are outside of the bathroom - just for reference. This worked well for us, and can work well for families trying to shower/get ready separately but simultaneously. Location is fantastic. Right across from the gorgeous ocean. Roaring waves, beautiful sounds and sights. I loved the location. Plenty of restaurants, even off-season, to visit VERY close by. Nubble light is in view from the hotel (and is just minutes away by car). Gorgeous. They have a little bar/cafe inside the office/pool building. The bar is pricey in a way that makes zero sense. Bartender, while nice, probably isn't a bartender at all and is just assisting in that area as there was really no knowledge of beverages to make/mix and no rhyme or reason to pricing. No where to sit to enjoy them unless you sit in the pool area which is WARM (heated pool, so it's nice for swimmers) and noisey as all get out if there are many swimming. Pool seemed nice, though we didn't use it (outdoor pool is closed right now due to the season). All in all, we would stay again. Our rooms were ready VERY early (so great) and we received text messages to alert us, so we were able to check in well before our time and we appreciated that a lot. read more

We just went off season in April and they wanted to charge $50 for a late checkout when we inquired and they would only let us stay ONE extra hour. I have traveled all over the world and have never heard of charging for late checkout. I would respect it more if they just said they couldn't accommodate it. If they're going to charge 1/3 the price of an entire night's stay, you should get more than 1 hour! Seems outrageous for a very outdated motel, during the off season, when the building was mostly empty. They also don't clean the rooms while you're there for multiple days. I had to take out my own trash. Yet they wanted to charge me $50 to stay an extra hour. Also, bring your own pillow. The ones on the queen bed are only 12 inches long read more

If not for view and beach this would have been 1 star. Stayed in one of the king suites for our 30th anniversary last weekend. Though the view was good the suite was just OK and the mattress was horrendous - so uncomfortable. This building has been open 18 years and I do not think they have ever changed the mattresses. Honestly the people giving low reviews are tripping. I've stayed here in the Atrium on at least 3 separate vacations and it's lovely. They have also made numerous upgrades since I first visited. The Atrium has a nice pool that's empty or nearly empty most of the time, you can have the whole pool to yourself in a nice, bright area with high ceilings, I think it's lovely. Very convenient for families. The main outdoor pool area is great, and so is the indoor pool by the front desk. They can be busy at times, but other times are practically empty. There's complimentary tea / coffee / infused water at the desk, fresh towels, and an ample upgraded snack store and bar. There is plenty of free parking. Staff has been very nice. You can easily walk across the street and be right on Long Sands. It's a family resort, so there are kids, but we've never had a problem at all, we rarely hear any noise. This time my husband and I just came as a couple and we've stayed for 5 days and 4 nights and have had a great time. The rooms have been recently refreshed. We have a nice little fridge, microwave, cold AC, etc. It's a perfect simple room. My husband came here as a child several times ~30 years ago and some of his very best memories are here. It gives him a huge amount of happiness to come here now. I will always recommend the Anchorage for families and in my opinion it's great for couples, too. read more

I have to say the price we paid each night we should have had a beautiful room. the pros: nice location, great pool, fridge, plenty of towels and great water pressure. The cons: air conditioner made an ungodly noise. Mold on blinds, Mold around tub, Shower curtains that were starting to rip. You hear the people above you walking around. The people upstairs were up at 5am and their children were running around back and forth. The floor sloped downward. I took a shower, came out to dry off ( bathroom is very small) walked around to the table and went to dry my feet and they were filthy. I realized that it came from the rug. Filthy! Check out , they refused to refund one of our rooms even though the cancellation fell within the 10 days policy and we booked the room exactly 10 days from check in date . . essentially stealing our money.. they could have had plenty of time to fill the room and still get paid. they were argumentative and they refused to accommodate us in anyway give us a credit for another time or an extra night on the one room we were keeping Their lack of guest care is unappealing despite amazing location and nice amenities we will never book here again . read more

My friends stayed at the hotel while we were at an Air BnB. The room was nothing special, but it opened to the outside and was as I would expect a hotel room to be. The price was reasonable. We haven't stayed here in a decade, at least, but needed just one night to rest as we headed back from Bar Harbor post-vacation to CT. We checked in around 5pm, exhausted . Check in was easy and the young woman at the desk was efficient and friendly. Since this was just a rest stop for us, we got a room in the old hotel, first floor. I was glad to see the main hotel building had at least a refresh within a couple years. It appeared clean, so there's that. Something smelled odd, but it was low-level bothersome and I was too tired to check around & ask for another room. We dropped our suitcases in the bathtub & crashed for a couple hours. We were woken up by what sounded like a herd of goats directly above us. Kids. Kids with exhausted parents. Not the hotel's fault. After an epic temper tantrum, things quieted down. The room felt stuffy, as I'd turned off the AC to see if it eliminated that odd smell. Nope, so on it went. I didn't even look inside the grate because I know nobody ever cleans them (that's why we AirB&B it with super hosts 99% of the time). The bathroom was microscopic, but we survived. We heard wind squeaking through the door all night even though it was only a little breezy out. We awoke to the monster upstairs smashing his plastic nerf gun against the metal balcony above us. I had to step out and tell him to stop in my meanest mom voice. Kid was probably 6 and on the balcony alone. I must've looked serious because that child stopped immediately and didn't start up again. When we were ready to leave (I appreciated the 11am checkout time), I found out what the smell was. Something clear and slimy and smelly was leaking inside the now-warm mini fridge. I threw everything out and scrubbed my hands. In all, I'd say that it was a decent place to stop and rest for one night. No way could I stay longer. read more

Cons: They didn't give us towels and were rude to my husband when he asked for some. Lots of lousy parents (not the hotel's fault) who just let their kids run wild. We stayed as part of a bus trip, mid May. We had one part of hotel to ourselves. Beautiful indoor long heated pool. Room had beach view, clean, looked recently refurbished. Hotel lacked a central meeting area in our section. Rooms had microwave and refrigerator. Breakfast was included for us at restaurant across street. Might be hard to cross during high season. Not sure why this place has so many nice reviews . Maybe other people had a better experience than me but I'm very unhappy. Me and my girlfriend came here excited to use the hot tub, pool, and relax. Except when trying to use either of them, they were PACKED with children. Hot tub was about 4X4 feet and there was 9 kids in there . And on top of that the kids kept me up running around the hotel and playing in the pool until 10pm. Then the next morning right at 9am I'm woke up to the pool open again and running around +screaming. This place is more like a kid camp not a getaway hotel. All in all we really had a good experience with this place. Would give five stars but they don't offer a military discount. They were able to get us a double queen room right away though and the front staff was really kind. There was an amazing Jamaican bartender who was just the sweatest to us and boy did she have a heavy pour lol. Indoor pool was nice and warm jacuzzi after walking around Portsmouth all day was a godsend. Room was small but clean and beds were super comfortable. I mean you get what you pay for I guess... Nothing was terrible and we were in walking distance from the water. It was a good location and we had a bed and the staff was friendly. On the other end...everything is outdated, the balcony is suspect and I didn't feel safe even standing on it because it was so small and the bottom was not very stable. There is no overhead lights in the room so you use the lamps for light. Unfortunately there are not enough outlets to house the lamps, tv, refrigerator at the same time so you pick and choose what you need to use lol. Also there is no microwave which is disappointing. We stay at many places in York This motel was by far the worst. Our screen door was ripped from one end to the other. The slider didn't work. Room has a foul musty odor. Bathroom was so tiny you couldn't turn around. Our bed spread had a huge purple stain on it. Rugs were dirty and one night manager with An odd name was very rude. Never again. It is 4am, and I'm typing this review from bed, as I'm waiting for the next time we will lose power, so I can try and cover the security light in the room from waking up my son again. We spent almost $1,000 for a weekend getaway, and have had several problems, to the point where maintenance had to be called in after midnight to come in the room and attempt to fix the issue. There is an obvious electrical issue that no one here knows how to fix. The front desk is supposedly "24 hours"; however, after calling and walking down shortly before I started writing this, the door was locked and there was no one to be found. I had a terrible experience here I just got off work and booked a hotel room keep you in mind I'm 19 year olds with my buddy and my twin brother that I work with. So I get there and they tell me I have to have someone 21 here to buy the room. So I asked for a refund and they told me I had to go through the app and so I got my buddy who is 21 and they still refused to give us a room or our money back and then threaten to call the police and the person working up front claimed to own the place because I wanted to talk to someone and it turns out he doesn't even own it. I didn't have anymore money in my savings because I didn't get paid yet and I spent most of it on the hotel so I ended up sleeping in my car. read more

This place was okay for a roadside motor inn, had ample pools to use, and the rooms seemed decently clean. However, they charged over $200 a night this past weekend for a room with no ocean view, in the atrium building in the back, and for what? The place was full of families and children- I assumed when I booked it based on pictures that it was a more adult-geared lodging, and a bit more "upscale". The hot tubs were still closed due to Covid... give me a break. The rooms were also TINY. So, I'd warn people to watch prices and not go on holiday weekends or anything like that, because this hotel was okay just not for that price. I'd say it's worth about $90-$100/night. At best. Stayed in the back atrium like normal there's only maybe 5 cars in the parking lot and they placed someone in a room next to us that is loud all hours of the night. But it gets worse see photo. 4 day stay and this place is great. Don't mind the other bad reviews because they definitely do not reflect our visit in the least. The rooms were extremely clean and nice. Coffee maker and fridge located in the room along with free brewed coffee in the lobby available 24 hours a day. The heated pools, jacuzzi and grounds were immaculate. Abundant new towels, wash cloths, soaps, shampoos and coffee packs. Service was very polite and helpful. We rented a top of the line vehicle and left parked with Garmin and radar detector in full view with no worry of theft or break in. Very secure, safe and well kept. read more

What a disappointment!!! By far the worst hotel/ inn of my life. That says a lot as I grew up the son of a travel agent ! ! The best thing that can happen to this place is a good fire or storm so they are forced to rebuild!!! It is a throwback to 1981 and I don't think it has been updated since 1984. They lure you in with great photography of a room that doesn't exist. I payed up front for 2 nights and it was so bad I walked away from my investment . It was so bad that I refused to stay here. I went down the street to Another petit inn and restaurant which was a top 10 experience and cost me about the same. The staff's attitude was so bad at anchorage inn that it would benefit from pure automation and no staff at all!!!' I've stayed in 3rd world South American fishing camps that were better. We found this hotel on hotels tonight, we decided to call the hotel to see if we would be able to ensure an ocean view w a King size bed (most of the hotel rooms are facing the ocean) the attendant on the phone told me that there were numerous rooms available w a view and king bed. She told me the price was $239 (with tax)... the same price as it was on hotels tonight I asked her if I should book through her or hotels tonight; she said IT DIDN'T MATTER. She took my name so that when I arrived, I would have a king bed w an ocean view. When we arrived they put us in front of the office w a queen bed. I asked her about what they promised while we were on the phone earlier? Then the very unprofessional, rude, manager named Novi, came out of the office to tell me that I would need to pay more for the King bed (the view wasn't the issue for us as much as the bed size). After arguing w me and being extremely disrespectful towards me, I just asked for a refund. She refunded me for $175. I told her that we paid $239 and she said to me "not my problem, take it up with the third party" (which was hotels tonight). This isn't my first rodeo with going though hotels tonight, I understand you book the room and you get what you get. My issue is, I called the hotel before booking though hotels tonight. They ensured that if I booked through hotels tonight, they would be able to accommodate our request without a problem. After taking our "non-refundable money" they tried getting us for more money when we showed up. On top of that, the room was FILTHY! The two attendants on duty were Raquel and Alexa... one of them was responsible for the false promise. RUDE! SHADY! UNPROFESSIONAL! DIRTY HOTEL! I have to say I was really underwhelmed by this place. It looks and sounds much better online. Upon arrival it's confusing as heck - parking lot is circus and no clear directions on where to go to even check in. We started to try to walk into one of the buildings when an employee explained we first needed to check in .. she directed us where to go - which is by the pool FYI. The front desk employee I dealt with was mediocre - not rude or terrible but not overly friendly or hospitable. The room was tiny but appeared pretty clean at first sight. Honestly cleanliness is the most important thing to me so I was happy. But we dropped off our belongings and left for dinner. When we returned and got ready for bed I realized I wasn't too fond of the room. The "bathroom" set up is just awkward and soooo small. The tile on the floor in the bathroom is grungy. Once we got into the bed we realized how uncomfortable it was. The pillows were terrible (3 pillows for two people - eh) and super flat which I personally dislike. The mattress is firm, but not comfortable at all. And to top it all off there must have been a lot of dust or mildew because my allergies kicked my butt. All. Night. Long. I was so stuffed up and eyes watering ... it was awful. It was a long miserable night of trying to sleep. Unless you don't have another choice, I really wouldn't recommend staying here. read more

We stayed in the spa suite for four nights, which ran $411 a night. This was supposed to be a special trip, with my two young sons experiencing York Beach for the first time. So I went ahead and put the money into it. And I'd stayed here years ago with a girlfriend, and remembered it as being pretty decent. After this experience, I wish I'd picked a different place. It wasn't horrible, but for the money I paid, I expected much more than I got. First, the room smelled really bad when we first came in. I never did nail down where it was coming from. And the tile in the bathroom was old and absolutely filthy. The room was nowhere near as large as I expected. It just wasn't the luxury accommodation I'd been led to believe it was. Really disappointing The worst impression came when I was charged 15 dollars for what would have been a complimentary breakfast in any other hotel I've ever been to. My kids cranked some cereal out of the dispenser and we all had a donut from the little display in the lobby. Honestly...four hundred bucks a night, and I have to pay for a donut in the lobby? This is what doesn't make sense, because I was on the fence here, but that breakfast was like a slap in the face. So I hope they enjoy that 15 bucks, because it's the last they'll ever see from me. The other thing I found disturbing was the noise. People walking by outside the windows (mostly staff) sound like they're right on top of you. The beds were comfortable, and the spa was OK, but the staff was mostly indifferent and dismissive. Anchorage Inn & Resort in York should just be called a motel with pool. It was the worst place we ever booked online and left after 1 night! I called to book the room... they only had 2 types available... and was told each room had a balcony or porch... but our "sitting area" was a narrow guest walkway with car bumpers in the way. I also expressed concern and asked if the poolside atrium could be loud that maybe the main building would be better. I am handicapped so was booking the 1st floor. The place was so crowded the only parking was several units away. Inside the room was so dark and dated my husband and I referred to it as "the cave". In order to get light into the unit you had to open the curtain and/or door so that only lasted a few minutes... afterall we were basically IN the parking lot. The sunlight also showed how soiled the carpet appeared. I called the front desk twice and was disconnected both times. The website showed no availability so rather than get any more annoyed I tried to make the best of it, but had the worst night. The bed was extremely hard & uncomfortable with no extra pillows, the bathroom extremely cramped complete with rust & mold, and the walls are so thin I could hear everything going on in all the surrounding rooms. By 7am it sounded like the folks above us were bowling and kids were chasing each other up & down the hall and yelling. I called the front desk and.. surprise... I was disconnected! When I did finally speak to someone I was transferred twice and eventually spoke to management who informed me I knew it was a family motel and noise is expected. That I "picked that location" ... though having never been there the booking representative should have told me it was loud & crowded and steered me towards the back section, if not another location entirely. Of course no other rooms were available so we checked out 25 hours before scheduled. After expressing my displeasure management informed me that I would not be charged fully for the unused portion of our stay if they rebooked the room. On Friday and Sunday they had no vacancies but... surprise again... they miraculously could not rebook our room so charged me in full after we left! I have stage 4 cancer and don't bother wasting time on negative nonsense, but staying in this place ruined my "bucket list" visit to Maine. read more

I was really disappointed with this place. It looks absolutely beautiful on the website and in person from the outside. I was not aware that the "snack room" you had to pay for. I walked in thinking "wow this is really nice that they would leave out snacks and drinks for guests like this" Only thing free is coffee. You even had to pay $2 for a packet of hot chocolate. My husband and I were really looking forward to swimming in the pool and relaxing in the hot tub. When we arrived, three kids were in the hot tub which made us immediately go back to the room. The view from our room was gorgeous and the room overall was clean. But the BED. Omg most uncomfortable hotel bed I've ever slept on & they only give 3 pillows. If you have back & neck issues you will struggle sleeping on these beds. I really do not recommend this hotel, I luckily found it for cheap on Groupon so I'm not as upset as I would've been if I paid full price. read more

A ONE YEAR OLD CHILD lost her bracelet and PATTI and crew tried to kick us out of the pool!! Literally the baby lost her bracelet, every one else had one!!! Then she called the cops!!!! My family has been coming to York Beach, Maine every summer for generations. When I was a kid we stayed at the Anchorage every summer and I hadn't been back in about 15 years so I was excited to see if it lived up to my old memories. One thing that definitely stayed the same was the price: the Anchorage Inn is one of, if not the most, expensive hotels on York Beach. A single night for one of their regular rooms with two queen beds in their back Atrium building was $315. As one of the only hotels directly across from the beach, the Anchorage can get away with his price gouging. The sprawling Anchorage compound includes the main building, the Atrium, and the Ocean Suites. We managed to get one of the few Atrium rooms on the top floor that has a view of the ocean from the balcony, which was awesome, after we had to call maintenance to help us open the door since it was stuck closed. As nice as the view was, the rooms themselves are far outdated, with spotty Wifi access, paper-thin walls (you can hear what your neighbors are saying or watching on TV), a shortage of working electrical outlets, and no microwave. It's the little things like painting the furniture after decades of use (see photo) and providing a channel lineup for the TV (most hotels do this) that can make a difference. With the ocean literally across the road from the Anchorage, getting to the water is a short walk. They also have four different pools (two indoor, two outdoor) that are fun to swim in. They make you wear wristbands while at the pools to prove you're actually staying at the hotel, which is something I don't remember from the past (read other reviews for how these wristbands can cause tension). One thing I really wish the hotel had was a small water spout to wash the sand off your feet before going inside into your room. It would make the work of the chambermaids that much easier. Another concern is that when checking in, the front desk worker kept me waiting while they answered a phone call. I would think it would be more important to cater to the guest who has paid for a room rather than speak to a potential one on the phone. I asked for a late checkout time (something I do time to time and have never, ever been denied) and the front desk worker flat out said no. After $315 for one night, an extra hour doesn't seem like it should be so out of the question. Overall, while I have fond memories of staying in the Anchorage as a kid with my family, seeing it now after 15 years shows me that you don't get anything near what you pay for at this hotel and it's not worth it at all. The next time I'm in York Beach, I will be looking for other accommodations. read more

What a wonderful find!!!!! My sister and I were looking for a quick get-away without driving too far and came across The Anchorage Inn, in York Maine. We arrived too early to check in and decided to sit at their outside patio facing the ocean while waiting. We met General Manager Patrick who was a joy and truly interested in his guests. The Inn was very clean and the staff was courteous, helpful, and seemed to enjoy their jobs! It sits directly across from the ocean and has an extended walking path to local restaurants and shops. We stayed here as part of a Roads Scholar tour. Room was in the back building with the indoor pool. Room outdated and bad horrible. Paper thin walls. Heard next door coughing all night. Kids bouncing on the follor upstairs. Would not recommend. Restaurant accross the street had a good breakfast. Dinner was just fair with fish overcooked and dry. Find another place. read more

BEDBUGS! Stay away! The pool staff were friendly but we came home from our trip with bedbugs. We fixed it on our end which cost several thousands of dollars. We had first seen them on our toddlers portable bumper which was inserted under their hotel mattress. The hotel dismissed us like it it never happened. My wife and I will be calling the health department of Maine on them. I assume more than one room has them. read more
