They are always there looking out for their boarders. The facility is climate controlled, which makes for a nice pet stay. What sold me was that they allowed us to tour the facility. Another place we looked at required a short daily window to see their facility...a red flag for me. They related that they take the dogs out five times a day for potty breaks and playtime. The kennel was not a small-crate type, but was really spacious for our pet. We boarded our dog with a friend's Yorkie and they stayed in their own space that had ample interior room; plus, the ability to go outside at their leisure to a private outdoor area. The facility was really clean, well-lit, and didn't have any bad odors. They even sent a picture and messages that our boy was doing well.

They have recently renamed to Barks and Wildlife Retreat, but the great service and friendly staff remains the same. I love my senior dog Bryn like my child and she is very particular with who/what she likes, however I never have to worry when I drop her off for extended boarding and they take very good care of her. They have gone a great job at giving her medication, vitamins, and one-on-one playtime, since she's a feisty girl that doesn't like other big dogs. I have boarded her at this location countless times over the years and she actually really gets excited when arriving. For added peace of mind, all of the suites come with cameras at no extra cost, that can be accessed through an app so that you can check in on your fur baby at any time while you're away. They also do a fantastic job at sending me photos of her during playtime so I never question whether she's getting individualized attention. The staff will gladly give new owners a tour when visiting for the first time, and likewise allow pet owners to walk their dogs in to the suites when dropping off for boarding to ensure pets are comfortable and know how to use the doggy doors. Overall, I feel you get what you pay for at this location given other locations will nickel and dime you for playtime, cameras, AC controlled kennels, medication administration, or have restrictions on bringing in personal items. I am able to bring her big comfy bed for her to lay on in case she's not feeling the provided hammock style beds. They have also recently added grooming services, so you can pick up your pet freshly groomed or bathed, since they do tend to get a bit dirty running around and playing in the courtyards. I will continue to use Barks and Wildlife for however much longer Bryn is with us, so don't hesitate to trust them with your pets on your next getaway.

I can tell how much he loves every single staff member & they give him that same love right back and make his day every single time. We have had nothing but outstanding experiences with the Barkly for both our dog and boarding our cat as well. I didn't get to see the inside of her facilities that day, but saw the well gated open land for the dogs to run around in. Later that year in the summer of 2016, I contacted Kathy as I was taking vacation, and she then allowed me to take a wonderful tour. She has a great set up inside and out! Clean and plenty of kennels with good space for the dogs. I didn't think twice about leaving my gremlins there :) She had them for about 12 days and she was readily available any time I contacted her to check on them. Kathy was the reason we didn't have to stress about the furry kids during our vacation and for that I am very grateful. If you know anything about my 3 gremlins is that they are a menace and anyone who can handle them for more than 1 day should be given a medal and eternal praise! We boarded them a few weeks ago and it was $300+ for two nights of boarding in the same kennel space, did the math and our dogs boarding cost more per night than our Airbnb in Fredericksburg. Pulled the plug, never boarding with them again. I get everything is more expensive these days but I don't know how they can justify their current pricing and their limited pick up hours, which many times have made us have to add on an additional night.

I was assured that someone lived onsite and would watch over the dogs at night. However, after just one night, I picked them up early due to serious concerns about neglect and misrepresentation. Here's what I discovered: *My dogs were confined in their suite for over 16 hours with no potty breaks or access to the faux grass area. *Staff admitted they don't wash food bowls between feedings. My dogs eat a raw pork diet, and old meat was left in the bowls overnight, over 14 hours, before being mixed with new food. *Staff ignored handling instructions for my male dog, using a slip collar instead of his pinch collar despite being told he's reactive around other dogs. I called the facility repeatedly the evening of 10/26/25 (over a dozen times) and got only voicemail. No one returned my calls, not even after I picked up my dogs early the next morning and complained to multiple staff about my concerns. I was later told that the "man who lives onsite" simply sleeps there and has nothing to do with animal care. If a medical emergency had occurred overnight, no one would have been available. If you have large or potty-trained dogs, please think twice before boarding them here. The staff do not follow their advertised care routine or basic hygiene and safety standards. My experience was deeply disappointing and concerning for any pet owner who expects proper supervision and humane treatment.

They smell so good and are so happy. They ate all their food, which NEVER happens. They don't eat when we leave them. Even if we have a sitter at home. Last time we left them at another facility they both seemed depressed when we picked them up and it broke my heart. Thank you, Dogs Gone Country, for taking care of my fur babies!! We will be back!
