Until Krispy a Kreme opened, Stan's was the place to go. However, they always want to put my doughnuts in a bag, which is no way to serve doughnuts - no one wants to lick icing and toppings off a sack. Second, they charge extra for credit card orders. Third, they don't make the doughnut inhale been requesting for years prior to Krispy coking to town. But the real clincher that led me to the post I'm writing today is that it's National Doughnut Day, so I made a conscious decision to support the little guy. The doughnuts I got were at least a day old and maybe two. I've had fresher Twinkies. I didn't know how bad the little local guy was until the big box came to town. I prefer fresh droughts, in boxes, they ones I like, and Krispy has a drive through, online ordering and doesn't charge extra charges for credit cards. I'd give up the convenience and great deals at Krispy and go to the little guy if the little guy was fresh. To the right is their pretty large donut case displaying that days offerings. Straight ahead is the register. The employees working that morning were friendly and eager to help. My family went with a dozen mixed donuts. There were traditional donuts..creme filled..cheesecake..sour creme infused..a good selection overall. The more the donut featured the more the price was. A dozen mixed regular donuts'll run you around 10 dollars..adding in some "special" ones will up that price a bit. Their selection had been picked over pretty well by the time we got there. There was still a decent selection..but a lot were already sold out. Like we've been finding with a lot of local donut places..if you're looking to get the more popular more interesting donuts go early. The donut I went with was a basic glazed chocolate devil's food cake one. It wasn't bad. Came off as a little dry..thinking it might've been sitting out for a while. It was kind of small too..smaller than your average sized donut it seemed. Overall, Stan the Donut Man is kind down the middle for me. Not bad enough to avoid but maybe not good enough to seek out. They do seem to have a lot of loyal local customers so some people out there think pretty highly of them. Took part in the Butler County donut trail. If you are not aware of what this entails, it requires that you visit 12 for all 15 mom-and-pop donut shops throughout the county and get a stamp or acquire the nearby geocache. Upon completing 117 miles in roughly 6 hours we came back to the visitation center, present our passport and acquired our T-shirt and completion Coin for 2018. The ability to hit all of these donut shops required proper planning. It was great to see a number of different things throughout our travels. Additionally it was nice to engage with locals and donut shop operators alike. I can tell you that if you do not get here early enough, you will miss out on some of the best concoctions and creative flavors. read more

I guessed I should have read the reviews before deciding to drop by this morning. First, the donuts are to die for. I had a Bavarian cream filled that was fantastic and a apple fritter that was so moist a fulfill of apples. The price is fantastic, I mean, what I consider CHEAP for what you get and if compared to anybody else around. As the earlier reviews said, you must get there early or expect your choices to be limited, don't get me wrong, they still had a good selection, but I could only imagine what was there earlier in the morning. I was there around 10 am, they had a good crowd standing in line and a number of tables we occupied with families and kids enjoying donuts, coffees, juice and milk. Stans is by far one of the best places for a quick breakfast int he west chester area. Not only are they cheap and the morning workers extremely friendly but the donuts are amazing too!!!! It is true that they can sell out quick on the weekends so if your a picky eater I would reccomend waking up early or simply giving them a call as they are always happy to set something aside for you! Being a regular is great at the shop because they quickly remember what your order is as well as you will be able to meet the owner Marty. Kids love it too! The sour cream donut was nice and tasty. The cherry cake donut was moist and delicious and the twist had a hint of cinnamon inside of it that was a nice touch to the glaze. Even if you get 'premium' items like the apple or pineapple fritters - you'll spend less than $10. Every time I've been here the staff has been very friendly too - even so early in the morning when I have a hard time keeping my eyes open, much less being perky. Which, speaking of, you must get there early. By 9 a.m. most of the donuts are gone. So for optimum choices get there early - particularly on the weekends. I had been by here many times and often complained that there are no good donut places around and I'm happy to have been wrong - not so happy to have always missed the place though. A disappointing stop on the Butler County Donut Trail. The place itself had a terribly unpleasant odor rather than the delicious smell of fried dough we grew accustomed to among the other shoppes. There was a very limited selection available on Sunday morning at 10am (although we did overhear the workers tell a customer it was unusual to be running so low). I ordered a chocolate devils food donut and thought it was dry and just could not compare with the other treats we enjoyed along the trail. read more
