Our whole reason for paying for this additional service was to make sure there were no unexpected surprises before purchasing the home. Unfortunately, after moving in and beginning to paint and remove wallpaper, we discovered that the dining room had a significant termite infestation. We are now facing over $4,000 in unexpected costs. When we contacted the company, we were simply told that the termites were "not visible" during the inspection. I understand that some damage can be hidden behind walls or wallpaper, but that is exactly why we paid extra for a professional termite inspection. I would expect a company specializing in termite inspections to have the proper knowledge, tools, or methods to identify signs that an average homeowner may not be able to see. If the inspection is only based on what is visibly noticeable to the naked eye, I do not understand what I paid extra for. Based on my experience, I would highly recommend using another company that can provide a more thorough termite inspection, especially when purchasing an older home.
