Another great visit to Armstrong Garden Center. Very comparable to the big box stores, but I think the selection is better and obviously service is fantastic. I am doing a landscape refresh in my backyard so a lot of plants were needed. I took various growth stages, including those tiny little pallet plants as well as someone and 5 gallon plants. So far all the plants have taken well. Very sturdy and healthy. Service is quite outstanding to be honest. Plenty of parking out front. I'll probably be back soon. A cautionary tale: in our most recent visit, we were very disappointed in the service. A bit of background is that six months ago we spent over $1500 on plants from them. They warranty their plants so when one of them died, we went in for replacement (it was one of 3 of the same variety). They didn't have the plant in stock so they said they would put in a special order. Many weeks later we'd heard nothing back so we went into the store. Dianne, a manager , admitted that they would not be able to get the special order. So we selected a replacement plant. The original plant cost $35 and the replacement plant we selected was only $25. But apparently they neglected to note in their system that the special order was to replace a plant under their warranty. So they charged us for the plant! Their mistake: they have lost a good customer over a plant that probably cost them $13 bucks. Their plants are more expensive and higher quality than the big box stores, but don't expect them to stand behind their warranty. read more

Armstrong is a great nursery here in town. I usually go to Plant Depot but their prices are really high now. I tried Armstrong even though it's a further drive and it turned out the customer service folks are really fun and helpful. Also, it never seems busy here. I park right up front and they have helped me find what I need each time. One helper gave me great advice on choosing some succulents and remembered me when I came back. They don't have as many gifting or décor-type items but for plants, they are just great. read more

Today while shopping at Armstrongs SJC we; customers including staff were in masks and gloves (covid). We witnessed this male customer entering the nursery without a mask. One of the Armstrong .staff members politely offered him a new boxed mask that they had at the entrance. This man adamantly stated; "I'm not wearing no mask!! I'll take a mask but I'm NOT wearing a mask!! We couldn't help by being so appalled at this rude and arrogant man! We felt bad for the employee being chastized by this jerk of a customer. This is like a miniature of Huntington library. I love coming here for plants. Staffs here are so knowledgeable. They know their plants and are proud of their care. We bought snow angel wings a month ago. Then we got a rainy winter. Those angel wings were not happy. We brought it back. No question ask. They took it back and gave us credit. I got another pot of angel wings. I hope they would be able to regrow the "not-so-great" angel wing back with their magic green thumbs. Anyway, great place for house plants. This is my favorite Armstrong's. It is a large store with a great selection. All the employees are very nice and helpful. The selection is really good here because it is big. They also had exactly what I was looking for -- small Japanese maple trees to grow in some pots on my patio. Most places just have large ones. Unfortunately some things can be a bit pricey but the plants are usually really healthy and worth it. I live in LA but came here to visit my family. The one near me in Pasadena is much smaller and has mediocre customer service; I'm happy to come home and go to this one, although I have to haul my plants home... read more

I was in the area hiking, and stumbled upon this shop! It is so big!! They have a huge collection of plants, flowers and everything. I was really surprised about how cheap the prices were. Usually, at places like these the prices are super expensive, but it was so much cheaper then Home Depot and other places. The customer service was great and they answered all my questions and were super helpful. I would check them out if your in the area, or one of their other locations. A couple of years ago I purchased Carpet of the Stars (ground cover) to replace my front lawn. The Carpet of The Stars started growing and doing what it was supposed to do. However about a year ago weeds started to infiltrate my Carpet of Stars and started to kill it. I went to a local Armstrong Garden Center and advised them of my issues and that I needed something that would not affect the Carpet of the Stars and stop the weeds. The person I talked with said he was an expert and guided to the item he felt would do the trick and not affect the Carpet of the Stars. This product end up killing some weeds but basically killed a lot of the Carpet of the Stars. Today I went to the original Armstrong Garden Center where I purchased the Carpet of the Stars in San Juan Capistrano. I was greeted by an employee as soon as I walked through their gate. I explained the above and she gave me some suggestions but felt I would do better if I talked with her Manager. I was introduced to Kathleen Cobb store manager and advised her of the above issues. Kathleen was extremely friendly and listened. She guided me to products that would take care of the issues and replaced the dead Carpet of the Stars that I lost. In my opinion Kathleen Cobb is very customer orientated and friendly person, and because of the way she treated me and my wife I will only shop at her store from this point on. This Armstrong Garden Center is huge and well kept and they offer a lot of choices regarding plants and fertilizers, I found all of their employees to be extremely helpful but especially Kathleen Cobb.
