I really wanted to love this place and I even started following them on Instagram because their plants and home decor are genuinely beautiful. It's also super convenient for me since it's just a 2-minute drive away, and I'd happily pay a little more to support a local spot like this. That said, I've been utterly disappointed by the customer service on multiple visits. On one occasion, I asked a question and later realized I was speaking with the owner (I recognized her from Instagram). She came across as very dismissive and annoyed that I was asking for help. On at least three other visits, I've had similar experiences with staff seeming irritated or put out when I asked questions or wanted to check out, but that shouldn't surprise me because culture is set from the top. I've tried giving them several chances because I really do love their products, but the customer experience has consistently been off-putting. I hope they stay around and just improve their outlook on their customers. read more

I stumbled upon Plant Depot when I was in the area. It is a nursery located in San Juan Capistrano - just east of the 5 freeway. It houses a variety of lush indoor and outdoor plants. Unlike other plants you would find from big chain depots, the selection of plants and flowers here are high quality and healthy-looking - making every one of them a desirable purchase. The staff at Plant Depot are so friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful! One of the workers assisted me by helping carry some outdoor plants I purchased to my vehicle. Aside from indoor and outdoor plants, they also sell home decor, small items for gifting, and outdoor / garden fixtures. They have multiple carts available to help carry all your purchases. And the facility looks well-maintained. The outdoor plants I purchased were a good value considering they are still alive today. They have a plant for any budget. The decor and selection are amazing. Right now they have a wide selection of pumpkins. I took pictures of my dog with pumpkins. She never looks at the camera, so an employee offered to take a picture of our group. Staff are very friendly and available. My first trip to Plant Depot did not disappoint! Most of the plants were in excellent condition, with the houseplant section being in good condition only. I saw some signs of overwatering in a lot of the houseplants. The succulents and succulent displays were well taken care of, the flowers were amazing, and the gifts/decor/pottery were so fun to look at!! I was immediately attracted to the cool pink pots, retro colorful decor, and super unique plant propagation displays. They also have every kind of fertilizer, soil, and amendment you could ever need. I would highly suggest giving yourself an hour or two here if you are a plant person to fully enjoy all the delightful sights. There are restrooms here that are clean and well kempt if you should need one. Overall, go! You will love it. read more

Best plant nursery I have ever been too! Ended up working there for a very short time but honesty I have never seen or been to another place like this. I moved to Texas and finding one like this is impossible so I had to start learning g how to spout my seeds. I love this place for how beautiful the shop and garden area are and the huge selection of sprouted veggie and fruit plants. From corn to all kinds of tomatoes and even strawberries. This is one of the best and only independently owned garden and backyard potted plant places in Orange county. I don't know how else to say that. Everything is a f****** home Depot now. F*** them. This is great. It's all outdoors have literally anything you want as it relates to planting in your backyard. We went in for the herbs Dill, cilantro, onions, tomatoes, basil, etc etc. We also found these beautiful hanging planners that are very nice ceramic looking and we bought those as well. Dear Manager, I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration with an experience I had at your store recently. As a loyal customer and local homeowner, I was shocked by what I perceive as blatant price gouging. I went to your store to purchase several large pots. I bought about eight and realized I needed two more. On my way out, I noticed more large pots on pallets that needed to be unwrapped. I spoke with Kathleen and explained I would leave briefly to visit another nursery that was closing at noon, and then return to buy more plants. When I returned, I purchased dozens of plants that the other nursery did not have. I asked Kathleen to show me the unwrapped pots from the pallets. She said she would call me when they were ready. I agreed, noting that I was only 10 minutes away and could come back immediately. After leaving the store with my purchases, Kathleen called and said the pots would be ready for me to purchase. When I returned and drove to the pallets, she informed me that the pots were now priced at $800 each. I had never asked for the price, and she never mentioned it over the phone. Just moments earlier, I had purchased the exact same pots for $350 each. When I questioned the price, she cited tariffs from Vietnam... really? I am extremely upset because it felt as though I was being taken advantage of simply because I had already made a large purchase. This is unacceptable, especially for a store that claims to be family-owned and community-focused. I will not be returning, and I intend to share this experience with my design community, many of whom have also supported your business. I hope you understand how disheartening this experience has been. Treating loyal customers with respect and fairness is crucial, and I am deeply disappointed that this was not the case. I've been to every nursery & garden center in coastal Orange County. Plant Depot is the best. It's worth the trip for the variety (OMG!), the service is amazingly great and the value is resume too. I was looking for Statice in pony packs because my garden is so crowded I didn't want to dig even 1 gallon holes to plant them. I was told my a nursery inTustin, "...Statice doesn't do well in pony packs." I was told at Plant Depot that their pony packs would do fine, and they did! I've been raising Monarch Caterpillars for the past three seasons. This year I successfully raised 40 from a different nursery's milkweed. When I needed more milkweed for a new group of baby caterpillars, I went to Plant Depot. I was assured their milkweed didn't have pesticides and was safe for Monarchs, however within 24 hours of them eating it, the caterpillars turned green, started convulsing, and shriveled, and died Also, when I left a message for a manager to get back to me about this lie they're selling, I didn't hear anything back. I've bought many plants and flowers from Plant Depot in the past, and while I've always had a good experience with their service and products-what good is helpful staff when they're telling you the wrong information or blatant lies. I have always loved this Nursery. They have a pond with turtles in it and my son and I would come visit the turtles when he was little. It is a very fond memory for me. They have a great selection of plants and other items. No one has the huge variety of pots and sculpture they have...just wow! They are quite pricey these days, but I know everything is. Still, I try not to buy the pretty gift things inside because, oooff, the prices. They do carry a lot of beautiful items, though. One item that is not pricey is the Talavera pots and sculpture. Compared to online stores, they have them beat, hands down! I bought several fun pots last time and I love my colorful yard now. All the plants I've bought here were healthy and only died if I killed them myself. :-D read more

If you buy a plant and it starts dying, take it back immediately and return it and do not let them talk you into keep in it saying that it will sprout back out because by that time your warranty is expired and they will not help you exchange or return. My experience, the staff in the yard is very helpful and knowledgeable Some of their business since not so much went through with my wife to purchase some color succulents for a lot of pots. Total is going to be $800 being seniors I asked to utilize their senior discount which I was told only on Monday and Tuesdays. I said that's unfortunate . I already had three carts of plants at the checkout stand. Do you want me to come back on Monday or could possibly the Manager give me the senior discount based on my large purchase today rather than make me come back another day. The manager came forward and abruptly told me there are no exceptions and they don't deviate from their rules. I said OK great keep your plants! Turns out to be a wonderful choice. I felt compelled to re-review and provide an update to my original review from 2021 because I had an amazing experience this past weekend with EDDIE. He was awesome and SO helpful. I ran over to Plant Depot to check out the planters, and grab a few plants. I was super-happy to learn you extended your hours to 5 pm - WOOT-WOOT! So happy about this!!! I was specifically looking for very large planters for the front of my house and needed help putting them on the cart. I found someone to help me (as I've done a ton of times in the past), since I shop here so often...but Eddie came along with us to the back. I told him what I was selecting planters for and showed him which ones I picked-out. I then showed him the front of my house to get his opinion, which ended-up being GOLDEN and SO SO SO valuable. When we moved into the house the planters (pots) in the front of our house were super-small scale, but I always put trees in them to give them height. Eddie immediately said "you need taller planters for that space". It never dawned on me to get taller planters! He then proceeded to help me pick out a few options. He was super-helpful and collaborative and patient with me. I really appreciated his thought process and his design expertise. I loved that he didn't just go with whatever I was thinking, but helped me think "outside the box" in a different direction, which ultimately paid off. Brigitte's comprehensive customer service is commendable! I first contacted Plant Depot by email searching for Lavender Grosso. She took the time to contact me back and worked with me to find and order the plants. A couple days later she let me know the plants had arrived and a ticket is waiting at the register for me. We drove down to SJC that afternoon and she personally brought the plants up front to the register and shared how best to plant them. This is one of the bigger nurseries I have been to in the area! Everything is super organized and clean! I spent hours just roaming around looking at all of the different things they had! Other than plants, they have tools, pottery and other garden art you can buy! The value of the items I bought were comparable to other nurseries and were worth the value. He couldn't have been nicer or more knowledgeable of what were my needs Then at checkout, Lessly was so efficient, she took one look at my merchandise and had it rung up before I reached the counter. Being in landscape design and purchasing from many vendors, I find Plant Depot to be incredibly overpriced and when speaking to staff they seem more annoyed and bothered than helpful. I have gone to this nursery 1x every week for the last 6/8 weeks as I'm redoing our entire landscaping in front yard. 1) I want to Say BEWARE prices will change EACH week... they write $14.99 or $129.99 or $189.99 on the planter container.... But if you go back or PREORDER plants they will change prices and UP CHARGE the prices on you. Manager blame it on the "vendor" even AFTER I PAYED and PREORDER $129 for each agave they call me and told me the vendor is now charging $170 each... today I went back to buy 1 more agave and it was $200!!!! I'll give an example: I preordered and PAID for plants, after I ordered and paid a few days later they called me to tell me the price have increased and I had to pay the price difference of MORE $$$!! It's totally not fair as a customer to up charge AFTER we pay!! 2) customer service sucks!!!! No one wanted to help me.. I think they just stand around pretending to want to help but if you have a question. They will call Rick over or Bill. 3) Bill was the ONLY ONE who had PATIENCE and actually spent TIME with me and explained plants that would be good for my yard!! He's the only one out of 5 people standing around that would help me. Everyone else passed me to Rick or Bill 4) Rick knows most of the plants but his attitude is he doesn't want to be bothered. He will answer your question & walk away fast.... 5) if you really need help picking out plants or have questions, call ahead and make sure Bill is there Unfortunately I showed up yesterday and Today after my 10th visit here and Bill was not working. I left Plant depot very frustrated by lack of customer service and having to pay more money than original price. I give 3 stars because this place has a large variety and it is beautiful.
