I am a…read moreprofessional registered nurse, firstly, with 17 years of front-liner experience in bedside/clinical patient care as well as was a front-liner Covid-19 pandemic during the Blackout of 2020 and 2021 for the major hospital of Hackensack Meridian. Initially, my first-time patient experience was to find a suitable and reliable dentist/dentistry practice that would actually listen to my concerns (the patient) as to my molar root exposure with severe nerve-related pains that lasted between January 2026 into February 2026. To my surprise, after receiving a first-time patient assessment and dental cleaning, a petite female dentist at this particular practice (did not catch her name) called me out, stating aloud in front of everyone, "You do not go around dentist shopping..." rather than acting professionally in the workforce, having any sort of empathy, actively listening to my concerns (as the patient), and understanding my severe level of pain behind tears. To my utter dismay and shock, I was beyond repulsed. Instead of arguing or talking back to show my frustrations from professional to professional - which I believe was not worth my time or efforts or energy to utter anything at all - I paid my copayment and left. Now, after some months passing, it is time to drop my long-awaited negative review. Thank you much in advance. It matters which individuals are working in a practice, truly.

The main issue is that the dentist does the cleanings (not a hygienist) and every time it was extremely rough to the point of me leaving with a mouth full of blood. I even told her it was hurting while she was cleaning but she just continued on anyway. It was so bad the last time that my teeth were extremely sensitive for a couple of weeks after. I've always had good experiences with hygienists and never was in pain or bleeding from those. On a positive note, the assistant Jess is very nice.

But Dr. G's incredible patience and thoughtfulness, and the respectful manner in which he explains everything - treating you as a partner rather than simply a patient - made me choose him over two other doctors I had been considering. What's also very important to me is that Dr. Gerskowitz looks at the patient and his/her health in a integral way, which so rare at our time of infinite specialization. He is a real master. His approach is careful and intelligent, and what they call "bedside manner" is superb: once you are in his office, you immediately feel at ease. Dr. Gerskowitz is simply the best dentist I've seen in my life and one of the very best doctors of any specialization I've encountered. I just wish I found him earlier. The young lady dentist assigned to me was very inexperienced. She extracted the molar by chipping and hacking away where she eventually removed the molar in pieces. I ended swallowing bits of the molar. In that visit, since I had insurance , this place did anything and everything to max out as much as they could from my insurance. I was told that 25% of the bill had to be paid upfront, which was $588. That night I bled quite a bit and had tremendous discomfort. The next day my face was swollen and I had a slight fever and realized something wasn't right. I When to another Dentist to get to the bottom of why I was bleeding so much and had this puffiness and why I had all this discomfort. Was told that the reason I bled so much was because the stitching done at this Avant garde place was because it was done on one side of the gum and that the stitching should've have been done in a cross road method as opposed to one side of the gum and the grafting to cover the hole in the gum area was not there. Was also told that I also had an infection as well and was given a prescription. I ended Spending an additional $750 to correct this mess done at Avant garde. To add insult to injury, no pun intended, Avant garde wanted another$1,590. I left skid marks at Avant garde. As mentioned, it was a horrible experience. Stay away...

He was digging his tool in so hard nonstop (even after me saying it was hurting me) that he chipped my tooth! He barely explained what was going on and tried to walk me to another room for a filling right then. I was so confused and he said he didn't even have time to numb me. I had a horrible feeling so I said I didn't want him to work on it right then, and he just left the room without even saying goodbye or asking if I was ok. I was in extreme pain from the tooth having a big hole in it from what he did. it was the most bizarre and horrifying dental experience I've ever had.
