We are so grateful for the employees at this shelter. Amanda and Brian went above and beyond in helping us adopt a wonderful fur baby. They tended to every detail and we are so grateful! They spay and neuter, do surgeries and vaccinations and care so much! We found an angel here and couldn't imagine what could have happened to her. There are hundreds of animals here and they don't have kennels for all which means they are on the list for euthanasia. Please please adopt and help end the sad cycle dogs being put down. Adopt don't shop.

All the times I called the number and front desk (my bf did most of the calling)

Recently foster to adopted a dog and had the worst experience here. My foster dog was experiencing a medical emergency and not once was the phone ever picked up even the emergency "24 hour" service line they gave us so we ended up having to take him to the vet ourselves and paid 1k just to eventually be told the vet cannot give us information about our dogs well being or even if he was alive since he was a foster dog (but they can take our money). I had to physically drive out to the shelter( a total of 5 times) to get answers to my questions. The ladies at the front desk are extremely rude and said they don't answer phones since it's only her and one other person? Front desk was very snarky and she directed us to Connie who is the manger and the most heartless and cruel person I have ever met. I wouldn't recommend adopting here since the animals are sick and they don't do a full screening of what they have.. Connie stated she even knew kennel cough was going around and nobody told us this when we brought our dog home to our senior dog I now have to pay treatment for out of pocket. I would love to go to a higher up if anyone has information.

I found my best friend here who I will never forget. I got a 2 yr old beautiful German shepherd here. They made the process easy by fixing him and giving him all his vaccinations before I brought him home.I didn't leave my home for 6 months while I went through training with him with a professional trainer. He was a good dog but had severe seperation anxiety. He ended up being the best dog and I took him everywhere with me.. kayaking, hiking, snow sledding. Then one day my partner of 11 years whom I lived with packed up everything without notice including my dogs and left. I never saw them again. I tried getting another adult shepherd and the dog pinned me to the wall and non stop bit me. I got a puppy but the connection is no where near what I had with my shepherd from this shelter. I looked for another one but no one compares to him!

DO NOT ADOPT ANIMALS FROM THIS PLACE!!! . I had went a couple weeks ago to surprise my dad with a kitten for Christmas since he is a trucker he's hardly home and was planning on taking this cat with him while trucking to keep him company. This cat was perfectly fine the first day we had him, playing, running, eating. The next day he was throwing up, lethargic, not eating, dehydrated. We called the shelter back to have her checked out and was told to come in Monday. (We bought this cat on a Saturday). We came on Monday to get her an exam for panleu, we were waiting there for about 30 minutes just for a nurse to come out and tell us "the vet isn't here today" we were pretty frustrated and we were told to come back the next day but I actually care about animals unlike this place. We took to an emergency vet for treatment and costed us $450. We came back the next day and told them the cat has parvo and was told no one made you guys go to the emergency vet because we were looking for reimbursement because of the absence of the veterinarian on that Monday. They kept our cat there for hospitalized treatment, they told us we would get a call back on how our cat was doing and we got a few saying the cat is going good and strong. One day they were supposed to call us about the cat and they never did and we had to go in the shelter in person just to find out our cat has died. I was told they had called my number but I didn't receive no call or text or anything, 0 missed calls. I was lied to about the call back and have a big feeling the cat was put to sleep because they didn't want to keep Maintaining him. This place is pathetic. If one of my cats catch this Disease and dies from it I will file a lawsuit and have this place shutdown. I don't want money I just want these animals staying here to have a sanitized; more professional environment. Thank you for reading this review

    Tucker, our newest "old man"

Just adopted an old treeing walker coonhound on 7/3 of this year. Tucker was in sad shape when we got him as he was stressed from being at the pound. He was so skinny and practically emaciated when we got him and the staff said he was so much worse. Poor guy. He will never live a hard day in his life again. Welcome to Furever Tucker.

Modestos animal shelter has made some great improvements over the years!! These people don't get enough credit! This is some HEARTBREAKING WORK that they do here!! Their FOSTER program is great!! I highly recommend Fostering! I did it for the first time and had a great experience. DONATE YOUR TIME to these beautiful and amazing animals!!

While some of the paid staff here are horrible & rude that do not even care to listen to what you're asking or saying, (personal experiences the times I was here) these dogs here NEED your help. We fostered Sirius for a month before having to go back for her spay apt where we officially adopted her. She was never shown on social media but I found her on their website one day & after communicating with the wonderful volunteers on the Stanislaus Shelter Friends IG for two weeks about Siri, I made the decision to drive the 6 hour trip to meet her. I was nervous because everything I'd seen & was told, she sounded like a bad case of being terrified of everything. She wouldn't easily go on leash, would pancake to the floor, wouldn't interact with anyone or other dogs. She was so thin & obviously wasn't eating due to shelter stress. BUT as soon as I saw her in her kennel, she came right up to me & licked my hand. I got her into a bonding room with the help an old woman who volunteers here where she slowly warmed up but was still very scared. I made the decision to take her that day. Second day with us & she was already thriving in our home! 3 weeks passed & she is the most amazing girl. Knows all her commands, excellent recall & loves her baby brother pup Asher. I'm just saying to never judge a shelter dog by how they are in there! Siri was one of the worst case I've seen when it comes to fear shut down & she blossomed almost immediately once she knew she was safe. If you're not sure, you can always foster! These dogs deserve loving forever homes. I want to thank Kat & Erika though, both volunteers, for helping us & being so kind as well as compassionate with all these dogs.

Will they come out and pick up animals that were dumped in my property?

Are they currently taking in stray kittens? I found a litter of 4 which I cannot take care of. I haven't been able to reach anyone over the phone.

They are very short staffed, have lost 2 counter people. Sometimes when I went there, the Mgr was at the front desk. Also, every shelter has kittens galore.

So i'm about ask a silly question, what's the process of adopting a pet from here?

Go visit, fall in love and give them $120.

Although $100+ might seem steep to adopt a shelter dog, I thought overall it was a great deal.

They e even made post about dogs being unhealthy because they've stayed at their facility for so long. However, they make so many restrictions for even adopting from them. I tried to adopt from them and even though I had grown up with the same breed of dog in my home I was told I couldn't adopt one of their dogs because I was a teena and not my parent. I wasn't an adult and that the dog required so much knowledge that they claimed I didn't have. But how could that be when I literally explained my knowledge of the breed. I ended up purchasing my baby from a breeder, but it's unfortunate they don't want to encourage rescuing. I understand vetting people to make sure animals go to a good home. But they should be less restrictive when it comes to letting people adopt. If I'm already paying $400+ to adopt I'm not in it to be a harmful owner. People don't have money to waste. perhaps then they would have money to run their facility instead of constantly begging. I even see they have so many requirements to foster. You either need help or don't. They made a post about a dog that was severely overweight because it's locked in a cage for multiple hours a day. How could they even let that happen. Smh. When we first arrived there, we noticed how peaceful the place was - none of the incessant barking that you encounter at the local shelter. Their grounds were well maintained. We were told the dogs are let out to run in the yard for 3 hours a day. Their website has a bio on each pet so you can read a background info on each one. Obviously when it's an owner surrender they have more information on the pet, less so if the pet was a stray. But even then, they observe them while at the shelter to give you an idea what to expect. Their system makes it easy to adopt. I recommend sending an application in to get approved first. Once you've been approved, just call to make an appointment to see a dog or cat that you would like to meet. They will hold the dog or cat for you until your appointment. This is different from local city shelters where you might see a dog or cat listed online but it might be gone by the time you get there. Their adoption fee ($350) is fair as my dog was already microchipped and his shots were updated, except for rabies. I was a bit surprised that he was released without updating his rabies. All in all, I would recommend PetsNPals to anyone looking to adopt. They definitely care about the pets and try to make their shelter stay as pleasant as possible. Please adopt, don't shop for a pet.
